Ruben Hakhverdyan, a singer and a songwriter, doesn’t want to talk
about the clarifications made by Serzh Sargsyan, the President of the
Republic of Armenia, regarding the statements he had made. `He said
what he said, let him say, good for him. What can I say about that? He
talked his head off,’ Mr. Hakhverdyan said to As for
the reminder of the president that he hadn’t been Boris Kevorkov’s

His Holiness Karekin II will bestow the highest distinction on Mr. and Mrs.
Nazar and Artemis Nazarian, in New York on May 10

On Friday, May 10, His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and
Catholicos of All Armenians, will honor two lifelong benefactors of the
Armenian Church and the worldwide community.

The Armenian General Benevolent Union and the Diocese of the Armenian Church
of America (Eastern) will co-sponsor the gala evening in honor of Mr. and
Mrs. Nazar and Artemis Nazarian, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All
Armenians, will preside over the occasion to personally bestow the “Knight
of Holy Etchmiadzin” Pontifical Medal on the honorees, in grateful
recognition of their lifetime commitment, service, and philanthropy both in
Armenia and the Diaspora.

The Nazarians’ generosity has benefitted countless institutions across the
globe, including Holy Etchmiadzin, the AGBU, and the Eastern Diocese. In
addition, the Nazarians have sponsored numerous educational, cultural, and
religious programs, and have been strong supporters of the Republic of
Armenia.

The “Knight of Holy Etchmiadzin” Pontifical Medal is the highest lay honor
of the Armenian Church, and has only been awarded to a very few recipients
since its inception in 2011. Mrs. Louise Manoogian Simone, the great
Armenian philanthropist and past president of the AGBU, was the very first
honoree.

“I wish to express my great joy that His Holiness has chosen Nazar and
Artemis Nazarian to be in the distinguished company of those who have
received this rare honor,” said Diocesan Primate Archbishop Khajag
Barsamian. “The Nazarians are shining examples of our Armenian Christian
heritage in action.”

“The Nazarians have been noble, influential figures in the American and
global Armenian communities,” said AGBU President Berge Setrakian. “This
event will be a memorable occasion to express our admiration and gratitude
as a community in the presence of His Holiness.”

To realize the event at the Plaza Hotel, Mrs. Nila Festekjian has graciously
accepted the invitation of Archbishop Barsamian and Mr. Setrakian to chair
the organizing committee.

Advancing the Global Armenian Community

In a lifetime of good deeds, Nazar and Artemis Nazarian have upheld the
Armenian Christian virtues of charity, loyalty and faithful leadership. Mr.
and Mrs. Nazarian have not only greatly contributed to the Armenian
community in the United States, but have been engaged for many years in
projects throughout the world to advance the cause of their people.

They are long-time members of the St. Thomas Armenian Church of Tenafly,
N.J., where Mr. Nazarian was among its founders and served on the parish
council as a Diocesan delegate, and on the Board of Trustees. He also
served on the St. Nersess Armenian Seminary Board of Directors. The
Nazarians have been major contributors to both the parish and St. Nersess
Seminary.

One of the original godfathers of St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral in New York
City, Nazar Nazarian has always been supportive of major projects of the
Eastern Diocese.

In anticipation of the 1700th anniversary of Armenia’s conversion to
Christianity, the Nazarians sponsored the construction of the “Drtad Madour”
as part of the mammoth St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral in Yerevan.
The beautiful structure is only the most visible part of the couple’s
innumerable contributions to the Armenian Church in its independent
republic.

Mr. and Mrs. Nazarian are also benefactors of the AGBU Nubar Nazarian
building, housing the Armenian Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, of the Yerevan
State Medical School’s Radiology Center, and the AGBU headquarters building
under construction in Yerevan.

The Nazarians have been active members of the AGBU, where Nazar has served
over 33 years on the Board of Directors as Vice President and Treasurer.
Their generosity has resulted in several “Nazarian Halls” gracing the AGBU
facilities in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Canoga Park, California; and Camp
Nubar, Andes, New York. The Levon and Satenig Nazarian AGBU Day School in
Beirut, Lebanon, was constructed by Nazar and his brothers in honor of their
parents, as they have also established the AGBU Levon and Satenig Nazarian
Fund.

Nazar and Artemis Nazarian have assisted countless students throughout the
United States and in Armenian communities throughout the world, as part of
their ongoing engagement for the advancement of the global Armenian
community.

For information about the banquet, please contact the offices of the AGBU or
the Diocese.

TURKISH-FRENCH PARLIAMENTARY FRIENDSHIP GROUP REACTIVATED

Anadolu Agency (AA), Turkey
March 20, 2013 Wednesday

The Turkish-French Parliamentary Friendship Group has resumed its
activities.

AK Party’s Sanliurfa MP Mehmet Kasim Gulpinar was re-elected the
co-chairman of the friendship group.

Nine MPs including five from the ruling Justice and Development Party
(AK Party), two from Republican People’s Party (CHP) and one each from
the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Peace and Democracy Party
(BDP) work in the friendship group.

The number of friendship groups in the Turkish parliament has increased
to 122 with the re-activation of the Turkish-French Parliamentary
Friendship Group.

The Turkish-French Parliamentary Friendship Group was suspended on
December 22, 2011 following the acceptance of the bill penalizing
the denial of the Armenian allegations about Ottoman era incidents
in 1915 with a prison term which was later on objected by the French
Senate commission of laws.

"Signals From Before The Big Bang" –Were Telltale Patterns Glimpsed

“SIGNALS FROM BEFORE THE BIG BANG” –WERE TELLTALE PATTERNS GLIMPSED IN THE AFTERGLOW?

The Daily Galaxy
March 20, 2013 Wednesday 7:13 AM EST

In 2010, University of Oxford theoretical physicist Roger Penrose[1]
made the sensational claim that he had glimpsed a signal originating
from before the Big Bang[2] working with Vahe Gurzadyn of the Yerevan
Physics Institute[3] in Armenia. Penrose came to this conclusion
after analyzing maps from the Wilkinson Anisotropy Probe. The NASA
WMAP satellite data reveals the cosmic microwave background, believed
to have been created just 300,000 years after the Big Bang when the
Universe cooled enough to allow electrons to link up with protons
and form hydrogen atoms. The short gap between the two events means
that the CMB captures details of the birth of our Universe, like its
composition and the processes leading to its current state. So far,
Nobel Prizes have been awarded both to its discovery and to the first
detailed characterization of its properties.

However, critics such as Sean Carroll, a theorectical physicist and
Senior Research Associate at the California Institute of Technology,
counter that the Penrose circles are simply what you would expect
from random alignments, not a new signal over and above the usual
Standard Model[4] predictions. The most obvious empirical fact about
our observable universe, Carroll says, “is its temporal asymmetry –
the early phase is very different from the late phase, even though
no such difference is to be found in the fundamental laws of physics.”

Regardless, Carroll points out, Penrose has been correct in insisting
that the low entropy of our early universe is a crucial problem that
is not well-addressed in modern cosmology.

Penrose’s finding runs directly counter to the widely accepted
inflationary model[5] of cosmology which states that the universe
started from a point of infinite density known as the Big Bang about
13.7 billion years ago, expanded extremely rapidly for a fraction of a
second and has continued to expand much more slowly ever since, during
which time stars, planets and ultimately humans have emerged. That
expansion is now believed to be accelerating due to a scientific
“X” factor called dark energy and is expected to result in a cold,
uniform, featureless universe.

Penrose, however, as he reported in Physics World[6], takes issue with
the inflationary picture “and in particular believes it cannot account
for the very low entropy state in which the universe was believed to
have been born – an extremely high degree of order that made complex
matter possible. He does not believe that space and time came into
existence at the moment of the Big Bang but that the Big Bang was
in fact just one in a series of many, with each big bang marking the
start of a new “aeon” in the history of the universe.”

The core concept in Penrose’s theory is the idea that in the very
distant future the universe will in one sense become very similar
to how it was at the Big Bang. Penrose says that “at these points
the shape, or geometry, of the universe was and will be very smooth,
in contrast to its current very jagged form. This continuity of shape,
he maintains, will allow a transition from the end of the current aeon,
when the universe will have expanded to become infinitely large, to
the start of the next, when it once again becomes infinitesimally small
and explodes outwards from the next big bang. Crucially, he says, the
entropy at this transition stage will be extremely low, because black
holes, which destroy all information that they suck in, evaporate as
the universe expands and in so doing remove entropy from the universe.”

The foundation for Penrose’s theory is found in the cosmic microwave
background, the all-pervasive microwave radiation that was believed
to have been created when the universe was just 300,000 years old
and which tells us what conditions were like at that time.

The evidence was obtained by Vahe Gurzadyan[7] of the Yerevan Physics
Institute in Armenia, who analysed seven years’ worth of microwave
data from WMAP, as well as data from the BOOMERanG balloon experiment
in Antarctica. Penrose and Gurzadyan say they have clearly identified
concentric circles within the data – regions in the microwave sky in
which the range of the radiation’s temperature is markedly smaller
than elsewhere.

The Cosmic Microwave Background[8] (CMB) radiation is the remnant
heat from the Big Bang. This radiation pervades the universe and, if
we could see in microwaves, it would appear as a nearly uniform glow
across the entire sky. However, when we measure this radiation very
carefully we can discern extremely faint variations in the brightness
from point to point across the sky, called “anisotropy”. These
variations encode a great deal of information about the properties
of our universe, such as its age and content.

The “Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe[9]” (WMAP) mission has
measured these variations and found that the universe is 13.7 billion
years old, and it consists of 4.6% atoms, 23% dark matter, and 72%
dark energy.

According to Penrose and Gurzadyan, as described in arXiv[10]:
1011.3706, these circles allow us to “see through” the Big Bang into
the aeon that would have existed beforehand. They are the visible
signature left in our aeon by the spherical ripples of gravitational
waves that were generated when black holes collided in the previous
aeon.

The “Penrose circles” pose a huge challenge to inflationary theory
because this theory says that the distribution of temperature
variations across the sky should be Gaussian, or random, rather than
having discernable structures within it.

Julian Barbour, a visiting professor of physics at the University of
Oxford in an interview with Physics World, says that these circles
would be “remarkable if real and sensational if they confirm Penrose’s
theory”. They would “overthrow the standard inflationary picture”,
which, he adds, has become widely accepted as scientific fact by
many cosmologists.

But Barbour believes that the result will be “very controversial”
and that other researchers will look at the data very critically. He
says there are many disputable aspects to the theory, including the
abrupt shift of scale between aeons and the assumption, central to the
theory, that all particles will become massless in the very distant
future. He points out, for example, that there is no evidence that
electrons decay.

Penrose and colleague Gurzadyn have answered the numerous critics
who say that the circles do not contradict the standard model of
cosmology in follow up paper, published on arXiv[11]. In the short
article, they agree that the presence of circles in the CMB does not
contradict the standard model of cosmology. However, the existence of
‘concentric families’ of circles, they argue, cannot be explained
as a purely random effect given the pure Gaussian nature of their
original analysis. ‘It is, however a clear prediction of conformal
cyclic cosmology,’ reports Physics World.

Armenia To Develop Relations With Russia, Eu – Sargsyan

ARMENIA TO DEVELOP RELATIONS WITH RUSSIA, EU – SARGSYAN

Interfax, Russia
March 19, 2013

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said Armenia will continue its
participation in the integration processes with Russia and Europe.

“How can we link our military security issues with the CSTO and Russia
while at the same time linking our economic or political future with a
different country or union? Of course not. We will continue integration
processes with European structures as well. That was the purpose of
my recent visit to Brussels,” Sargsyan told local television channels
on Monday.

“Our intentions are honest. We want our country to develop and use
the assistance of the Customs Union, Eurasian Union and European
Union in this process,” he said.

Sargsyan said Russia is not making Armenia become a member of the
Customs Union. “Don’t believe those who say that. No one is making
us do that. I can say the following: members of the Customs Union
currently do not wish to admit anyone in this union, at least I
haven’t seen such a wish,” Sargsyan said.

Sargsyan also said the EU countries are expected to ratify the
agreement easing the visa regime with Armenia by June 1, and the
process of signing an agreement on a free trade zone is nearing
completion.

“I hope the agreement will be signed this year. An EU delegation will
arrive in Yerevan this week to complete the remaining part of the
Association Agreement. In addition, the head of the Eurasian Economic
Commission collegium, with which the Armenian government is likely
to sign a memorandum of cooperation, will visit Armenia in April,”
Sargsyan said.

YEREVAN TO RECOGNIZE KARABAKH INDEPENDENCE ONLY IN CASE OF WAR – PRESIDENT SARGSYAN

Interfax, Russia
March 19, 2013 Tuesday 1:50 PM MSK

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has said that his country could
agree to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence only if hostilities
were resumed.

“We will recognize the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent
state if Azerbaijan starts hostilities, or if such a dead-end
situation appears where we will not have any alternatives. In this
case we will have nothing to lose,” he told local television stations
on Monday evening.

Recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence is out of the question
in all other situations, he said.

“If we adopt such a decision today, negotiations will be suspended,
which will mean a slap in the face as far as both these talks and
the Minsk Group co-chairmen are concerned. But what should we do
if a war starts? Will we fight against the whole world? Calls for
recognizing Karabakh’s independence could come from irresponsible
people,” Sargsyan said.

The Heritage opposition party led by Raffi Hovannisian, who lost the
Armenian presidential election on February 18, has demanded recognition
of Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent state.

agiront dans le cadre de la loi pour defendre l’ordre constitutionnel ;

d’ores et deja aux prochaines elections legislatives ;

Sarkissian.

“A plusieurs occasions j’ai ouvertement condamne l’antisemitisme,
explique.
