HOVANNISIAN TO CROWDS: “WE’RE NOW HEADED TOWARDS 26 BAGHRAMYAN”
Sona Avagyan

18:36, April 9, 2013

Raffi Hovannisian just declared to the crowds at Freedom Square that
they were headed to the Presidential Palace at 26 Baghramyan Avenue.

“We are headed to 26 Baghramyan. Police, the wining and dining of
your bosses is over. Open the streets,” Hovannisian announced and
the crowds applauded in appreciation.

“Police, soldiers, put your riot gear to one side. We are not your
enemy, but your friend. We will not attack. But Serzh, Garegin,
Tigran and Hovik must do the manly thing and come out, kneel,
and ask forgiveness of the people, we will accept their apology,”
said Hovannisian.

The Heritage Party leader called on the people to raise their copies
of the RA Constitution, the 2nd paragraph of which reads that authority
rests with the people.

Hovannisian said that from 26 Baghramyan, the march would head towards
the Tzitzernakaberd Genocide Complex.

(Garegin is Catholicos Garegin II, Tigran is PM Tigran Sargsyan,
and Hovik is Parliament President Hovik Abrahamyan)

Raffi Hovannisian’s Campaign Headquarters Issues Statement On Police

RAFFI HOVANNISIAN’S CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS ISSUES STATEMENT ON POLICE ACTIONS

16:54 ~U 09.04.13

Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian’s campaign headquarters issued
a statement on illegal police actions on Tuesday.

At about 10:30am, police resorted to illegal actions against a group
of people that arrived in Yerevan from Armenia’s regions to attend
New Armenia’s inauguration in Freedom Square, the statement reads.

Specifically, at the Baghramyan-Demirchyan crossroads, policemen
acted toughly against some of the people, including Heritage party
Vice-Chairman Armen Martirosyan, his mother and child.

The police blocked the way for the people led by Raffi Hovannisian,
who were marching to Baghramyan Avenue. Troops of Armenia’s Ministry
of Defense are in Baghramyan Avenue.

Raffi Hovannisian’s campaign headquarters is harshly critical of
the police actions and demands an end to artificial tension round
New Armenia’s inauguration. Armenia’s police and Armenia’s incumbent
president will bear full responsibility for all the consequences.

Armenia’s Police Chief Had Instructions To Not Open Fire – Oppositio

ARMENIA’S POLICE CHIEF HAD INSTRUCTIONS TO NOT OPEN FIRE – OPPOSITION SINGER-SONGWRITER

April 10, 2013 | 12:32

YEREVAN. – Tuesday’s day of swearing in was a day of marching in
Armenia’s capital city Yerevan. Opposition singer-songwriter Ruben
Hakhverdyan stated this during a press conference on Wednesday, and
added that he and his family did not vote on presidential election day,
since he knew who would be elected, and how.

In his words, those that have gathered around opposition Heritage
Party Chairman, former FM Raffi Hovannisian-who was declared runner-up
to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of
the presidential election that was conducted on February 18, but who
claims to be the real winner in the vote-gathered around him because
they are against the present-day halls of power.

“We have a humanist police chief, without quotation marks, but
tomorrow he could be humanist with quotation marks,” Hakhverdyan
said, and noted that Armenia’s Chief of Police, Vladimir Gasparyan,
had instructions to not fire upon the people.

And the people “clinched on to Raffi, since he is the decent man from
among them,” Ruben Hakhverdyan added.

Maragha Pogrom Was Real Calcutta – Ex-Ombudsman

MARAGHA POGROM WAS REAL CALCUTTA – EX-OMBUDSMAN

13:23 ~U 10.04.13

A former Ombudsman of Armenia has compared the 1992 Armenian massacres
of Maragha (Nagorno-Karabakh) with a present-day Calcutta, calling
for efforts to raise international awareness of the tragedy.

Speaking at a news conference devoted to the 21st anniversary of
the tragic events, Larisa Alaverdyan said the pogroms came as a big
surprise to the Armenians as many were hopeful to finally see peace
after the country’s joining the United Nations and OSCE (1991).

“But all our expectations simply vanished. When the call from
[Nagorno-Karabakh’s capital] Stepanakert came in 1991, we couldn’t
believe it. That was an organized slaughter against the civilian
population. The village had a population of 5,000 at the time, and
all were instructed to flee. Those who didn’t manage to were helpless
people who hid in shelters,” she said, adding that 50 residents of
the village were brutally killed, with another 59 being taken hostage
during the tragedy.

Alaverdyan blamed the Azerbaijani authorities for the massacre which
lasted three month.

“The existing opinion in Armenia is that the country would be
quite all right now had the Karabakh issue been settled. That’s a
misunderstanding. They will pursue the same policies, no matter where
you come from,” she continued.

The former ombudsman said the authorities must take proper measures to
the have existing documentary evidence (materials, films) disseminated
and translated into different languages, especially Turkish.

“I call upon the authorities to take up real work. Yesterday we had a
meeting with Slovakia’s deputy prime minister. I gave him films on the
Sumgait and Maraga [pogroms], but that isn’t even a slight piece,”
she said, stressing the importance of continuous efforts towards
raising publicity of the tragic crime.

Aleppo Armenian Family Set Up Business To Become Permanent Resident

ALEPPO ARMENIAN FAMILY SET UP BUSINESS TO BECOME PERMANENT RESIDENT OF ARMENIA

10:56, 10 April, 2013

YEREVAN, APRIL 10, ARMENPRESS: Because of the internal political
situation in Syria family of Jabakhchurians has moved to Armenia and
set up a business with the intention of becoming permanent resident
of Armenia. Kaytsak Jabakhchurian, the only son of the family, has
moved to Armenia 8 months ago, visiting sights of Yerevan and Armenian
villages. “I love Yerevan; it’s a very beautiful, secure and peaceful
city. In this term it is very similar to Aleppo several years ago,”
Kaytsak said. Kaytsak’s sister, Meghrik, is working as a teacher and
also loves Yerevan.

Kaytsak has nostalgic memories of his birthplace, of his home,
workplace; he misses his friends the part of which has fled to
different corners of the world and the other part has stayed in Aleppo.

Father of Kaytsakh, Grigor, who was running lahmacun business in
Aleppo for 15 years, moved to Armenia with his son. He says that now
in Armenia they are doing the same thing.

It was rather tough for the family to move to Armenia, leaving
everything they earned during their life in Aleppo. “We left our house,
car and two shops. It was hard, nevertheless, we managed to make a
decision and move to Armenia, as it was the only way to live in peace”.

Armenpress news agency will present success stories of Syrian Armenian
moved to Armenia because of the difficult situation in Syria.

"New Doctrine" In Ankara

“NEW DOCTRINE” IN ANKARA

The upcoming fundamental changes in Central Asia (including
Afghanistan) have an effect of intrigue on Turkey which is generally
perceived to have failed its doctrine of neo-Ottomanism and is in
the quest for an alternative doctrine though Neo-Ottomanism is an
alternative to Pan-Turkism.

Tens of European and American political scientists with tight links to
research programs funded by Turkey have been working hard to prove that
Pan-Turkism is a myth and invention and nothing of the kind exists. In
fact, it became known in the course of time that Pan-Turkism is a
pro-Russian rather than Turkish doctrine because most Turkic states
and nations have been swimming in the channel of the Russian policy
(since the 16th century).

Recently the same political scientists have been trying to prove
at all kinds of forums that Neo-Ottomanism is an ethno-cultural,
not a political doctrine. This time this doctrine collapsed from the
latent strikes by the states of the Western community with the help
of Arab states.

The Western political scientists continue to get grants and high fees
but their ideas and assessments already do not interest anyone. Civil
expertise as such is dying in the West under the influence of several
reasons but manipulations of the pro-Turkish “team” did play a role.

In tough discomfort, hopeless, waiting for the economic crisis and
having found their “Vietnam” in Syria, the Turkish leaders are seeking
ideas for a new acceptable doctrine, more or less realistic in terms
of their economic and political capacity. The United States has already
proposed that Turkey let the Near East go and “return” to Central Asia.

After NATO’s withdrawal from Afghanistan Turkey will suffer a
nightmare in the region, if not a political catastrophe. It means
that as a competitor to Russia and China Turkey will undergo strikes
by radicals which mostly belong to the Iranian civilization.

Refraining from public speeches, some European experts of Turkish
origin are trying to warn Ankara about the maturing catastrophe due
to the intentions to “return” to Central Asia. For example, one of
these liberal experts argues that a team of politicians, journalists
and political scientists has been set up in Turkey which obviously
carries out foreign orders and pushes the country to make mistakes.

In fact, it turns out that Turkish expansionism has run into deadlocks
in all directions. Turkey always “returns” to previous doctrines and
ideas but earlier it happened once in ten years whereas in the 21st
century it has to “return” in maximum ten years. This is the main
sign of the geopolitical deadlock.
