New York, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia

Los Angeles, May 13, 2013 – On April 23rd, eighth and ninth grade
students went on a 5 day educational trip to visit historical sites around
the United States escorted by their English teacher Mr. Pascal Nittis and
eight parents. The trip was organized by school parent Ms. Shoushan Vanoyan
from Econo Travel.

The students made their first stop in New York where they spent 2 days
visiting the famous Time Square, Empire State Building, the Statue of
Liberty, the Financial District and 5th Avenue. On the following day, April
24, the students visited St. Vartan Armenian Church where they attended a
full service dedicated to the commemoration of the victims of the Armenian
Genocide. Following service, students visited Ground Zero where they also
paid their respects to the victims of 9/11.

On April 25, students boarded a tour bus and headed to Philadelphia, where
they spent the hours of the morning visiting the Liberty Bell, Independence
Hall and Benjamin Franklin’s grave. They then stopped by a restaurant and
enjoyed a hearty meal of Philly steak sandwich. The students then boarded
their buses again to continue their trip to Washington D.C. where they
spent three days site-seeing historical parts of the city, such as Capitol
Hill, the White House, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the
Korean War Memorial, the WWII Memorial, the Air and Space Museum and the
Natural History Museum which are both a part of the Smithsonian
museums. Moreover,
the students visited the site preserved for “The Armenian Genocide Museum
of America”. The students also got the opportunity to visit Georgetown
which allowed them to acquaint themselves with the possibility of attending
Georgetown University some day.

Upon their return to Los Angeles on Sunday, April 28, the students found
their 5 day long excursion very enjoyable and informative, whereas parents
expressed their high level of satisfaction of the program and the way it
was organized.

Armenian-Belgian singer: I want to set good example for future

Armenian-Belgian singer: I want to set good example for future
generations – PHOTOS

MAY 13, 22:14

By Marina Adulyan

Belgian-Armenian R&B singer Keyoh (Karine Ohanian) is becoming more
popular. NEWS.am STYLE reached Karine to learn more about her plans,
since her new single K.O. LOVE will premier on iTunes on May 21.

Karine, tell about your new single.

I look forward to its release because I do not know how t he audience
will accept my debut. Why? Because this single will make them form a
coherent picture of me. I wrote the lyrics and music based on my
personal experience. That is, I went through all of this. Of course,
my producer Guy Waku also played a role. He turned the song into an
ideal one.

What about the video? Who was the director?

The video is entirely a figment of my imagination. I would like, of
course, to share the details, but it will be something like when you
want to watch a movie and you are told the plot from the beginning to
the end.

Let me just note that the plot is somewhat feministic and ironic.
Since K.O. means a Knock Out (KO), the main character is a boxer. The
video was filmed by famous Belgian director Alain Jongen.

What about style of your previous songs, only R’n’B?

My songs’ target are young people who like POP/R&B/ Dance. Perhaps, it
may be called a fusion of these styles.

In one of the interviews with NEWS.am you said that you plan to write
a song containing a phrase or sentence in Armenian. Did you manage to
bring the idea to life?

Not yet, although I have been thinking up the idea for a long time. I
am sure it will become a reality. But I’ll tell you a secret, in my
new song it is already possible to find the germ of an idea, you can
just feel it.

Do you plan to give a concert in Yerevan?

Not yet, as all my contracts have been signed with countries in
central Europe. However, the negotiations with Armenia are underway.

As far as I know, you planned to create your own clothing line. How
are things going with that?

Since the beginning of this year, My Dressing by Ohanian has been
already available. The designer and creator is my sister Anna Ohanian.
I am just the face of the company and I am doing the marketing.

You speak several languages. Which is closer to you?

If it is a language that is spiritually close to me, it is Armenian.
But, unfortunately, I speak Flemish and English better.

When you reach the top, what country would you like to live in?

I have not thought about it yet.

The most vivid dream…

Sing on the world’s most famous stages and set a good example for
future generations.

For the Family and Friends of
Allen and Sose
Hayastan and the World

Vshtakits barekamner,

He was, for our father, the finest of students and a true intellectual.

He was, for our son, a compatriot and friend and fellow soldier.

He was, for us the humble guides of his generation, a reminder of why
we ourselves had moved to Armenia once upon a time.

He came, as we had come, for love and for struggle.

Allen Yekikian and Sose Thomassian were married in Armenia, and
together they believed that they were going to make it in the
Homeland. They believed, to the very end, that Armenia was going to
make it.

As we ask God, in our hallowed tradition, to illuminate their united
soul, we bear our heartfelt share in this terrible loss for the
Nation. We shall continue, in Allen’s and Sose’s name, to love and to
struggle for making Armenia the one and only of their dreams.

We are so obliged.

NKR official: 1994 ceasefire agreement important for region

NKR official: 1994 ceasefire agreement important for region

May 13, 2013 – 13:01 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – What happened on May 12, 1994 was a significant
event for the South Caucasus region, head of the Central Information
Department of the Artsakh Republic President’s Office said.

`It was a significant event for Azerbaijan too, as it would simply
cease to exist if not the good will of Artsakh and Armenian people’s
non-aggressive worldview,’ David Babayan told PanARMENIAN.Net
commenting on the anniversary of the ceasefire, signed in 1994.

`Thus, the policy the Armenian states pursued must be valued by the
international community. Azerbaijan is the only country that shows
disregard for the mediator countries’ efforts aimed at the peaceful
settlement of conflict. However, this in no way affects our vision on
the inadmissibility of hostilities, regardless of the statements made
by some politicians. We, Armenians, are against the reoccurrence of
such a situation after going through war and hardships,’ he said.

`However, this doesn’t mean we are unable to defend our freedom and
independence in case of necessity. In the face of a new war, the
possibility of interim truce agreements will, unfortunately, be ruled
out. Baku must understand this,’ Mr. Babayan said.

Armenia Invited to Japan Prize 2013

Armenia Invited to JAPAN PRIZE 2013

13:18, May 13, 2013

The RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Armenia has been
invited to participate in JAPAN PRIZE (International Contest for
Educational Media) 2013.

The JAPAN PRIZE was established in 1965 by NHK as an International
Educational Program Contest with the aims of improving the quality of
educational programs around the world and contributing to the
development and fostering of international understanding and
cooperation.

Keeping these original aims, the JAPAN PRIZE reformed in 2008 to
target not only TV programs but also other linear contents (videos,
movies, etc.) and non-linear contents (websites, educational games,
and other interactive material with audiovisual content). This was
intended to cope with the circumstances facing educational media at
the time, including the diffusion of information-communication
technologies, the initiation of digital broadcasting and the spread of
the Internet in the field of education worldwide.

Casino – Music, Songs and Wine!

Casino – Music, Songs and Wine!

Casino, casino, casino

It’s music, songs and wine,

Its tears for wasted years,

And a happy ticket to fortune.

Lines are from a famous Russian song

It has been announced that the president of Belarus Alexander
Lukashenko will arrive in Armenia for an official visit. Earlier the
press had reported that Lukashenko will arrive to attend the ceremony
of opening of his friend and partner Gagik Tsarukyan’s church and
entertainment center.

During the electoral campaign Gagik Tsarukyan imported tractors from
Belarus and gave to villages to buy farmers’ votes. The press reported
that the PAP did not pay for tractors fully, and there were some
problems. Even the person in charge of the tractors stated that some
of them were out of order that is why they did not pay. Now this issue
will probably be settled with Lukashenko.

Interestingly, the visit of Lukashenko was defined as `official’.
Well, it would be inconvenient and meaningless if the visit were for
the dedication of a church and a center of entertainment. Especially,
that Belarus is not an apostolic country. Although in such countries
as Armenia and Belarus there is no need for such `appropriateness’.

As to Sargsyan on whose invitation Lukashenko will arrive officially,
it is his gift to Gagik Tsarukyan. The visit becomes official and
serious, thereby adding seriousness to Gagik Tsarukyan’s ceremony. It
means that Serzh Sargsyan and Gagik Tsarukyan have reached an
agreement. Catholicos Garegin II will `bless’ this agreement who will
conduct the ceremony of consecration of the newly-built church.

Will Serzh Sargsyan reproach Lukashenko for supplying large amounts of
weapon to Azerbaijan? Hardly so because it is not worthwhile upsetting
anyone on this happy event. In addition, Gagik Tsarukyan has built a
luxury center of entertainment similar to those abroad where one can
yield to entertainment. Internal issues have been resolved and a
`favorable period’ awaits us.
