EU HAS NO INTENTION TO PUT PRESSURE ON ARMENIA – FRENCH ENVOY

July 12, 2013 – 16:56 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Armenia-EU relations showed significant progress,
with the associated agreement to be signed to take them to a new level,
French ambassador Henri Reynaud said.

“Being closed geographically, it’s natural for Armenia to want its
borders opened. So, understandably, this is the direction Yerevan
directs its diplomatic efforts in,” the envoy told a July 12 news
conference.

“EU can’t hamper Armenia’s cooperation with other countries. EU has no
intention to put pressure on Armenia. As for progress in negotiations,
it will be achieved through a dialogue,” the envoy said.

In conclusion, the ambassador hailed the current level of
Armenian-French relations.

Armenian Programmers Apply To Central Bank Chairman

ARMENIAN PROGRAMMERS APPLY TO CENTRAL BANK CHAIRMAN

Young programmers of Armenia applied to the Chairman of Central Bank
of Armenia with the request to explain why Google doesn’t cooperate
with Armenian banks and does not send the money earned by Armenian
users in Google Adsense in Armenia. Instead, a Citibank check is
sent through post which Armenian banks refuse to encash since one
needs to be the customer of the bank for at least one year to have
the possibility to encash the check.

The young programmers of Armenia ask the CB Chairman to take up steps
to negotiate with Google and solve the issue. The youths underline
also the issue that it is impossible to use PayPal system in Armenia,
which according to them, is a shame.

Venezuelan Minister: Facebook Users Unwittingly Work As CIA Informan

VENEZUELAN MINISTER: FACEBOOK USERS UNWITTINGLY WORK AS CIA INFORMANTS

08:35 ~U 11.07.13

A government minister in Venezuela, which has offered fugitive US
intelligence leaker Edward Snowden asylum, is urging her countrymen
to cancel their Facebook accounts lest they be targeted by US snooping.

“Fellow Venezuelans: cancel your Facebook accounts, since you
unwittingly have worked as CIA informants! Look at the Snowden case!”

prisons minister Maria Iris Varela said in a Twitter posting.

Varela also said victims of “gringo espionage” should file lawsuits
to demand “fair compensation” and bankrupt the US government.

In apparent limbo in Moscow, Snowden has applied for asylum in 27
countries as he tries to evade American justice for disclosing a vast
program of US worldwide electronic surveillance.

It remains unclear how Snowden would be able to leave the transit
zone of Sheremetyevo Airport, where he has been marooned without a
valid passport since he arrived from Hong Kong on June 23.

Snowden, a former IT contractor at the US National Security Agency,
said it had gathered vast amounts of users’ private Internet data
from Facebook and other Internet giants.

An Armenian cemetery has been destroyed in Tekirdað Malkara, Turkey.

A bakehouse has been built in the area, Radikal reports.

Demir Ali Pala, Head of the local chapter of the Justice and
Development party, wants hard drinks to be served there as well.

As of September 1, 1976, the area 1.5km of Malkara was registered as a
cemetery. Tombstones have been ruined over the years.

“Our roasted meat is known. There is no cemetery here. It was here 300
years ago,” Demir Ali Pala said.

The construction work brings human bones up to the surface.

“The construction was launched a month ago… There were large
tombstones here 15 years ago, and archeologists arrived,” an unnamed
couple said.

Mkhitaryan Enjoys Impressive Debut For Borussia (Video)

MKHITARYAN ENJOYS IMPRESSIVE DEBUT FOR BORUSSIA(VIDEO)

Mkhitaryan enjoys impressive debut for Borussia [video_ico.gif]  July
11, 2013 – 11:47 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Henrikh Mkhitaryan enjoyed an impressive debut for
Borussia Dortmund as he grabbed a goal and an assist in a 3-1
friendly win over Basel on Wednesday, July 10, Goal.com reports.

The Armenian, who completed his switch to the Bundesliga side on
Monday, set up Marco Reus to score an early goal before producing a
fine left-footed finish after Fabian Schar had levelled for the hosts
on Wednesday.

And, with ex-Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker Mkhitaryan long since
withdrawn as one of numerous substitutions, Jonas Hofmann completed
the scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s men with some fine control and a cool
finish in the second period.

Dortmund named a strong team ahead of the fixture at St Jakob Park,
with recent arrivals Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Mkhitaryan backed
by familiar faces such as Roman Weidenfeller, Nuri Sahin and Robert
Lewandowski.

A combination of old and new soon brought about the first goal, with
Mkhitaryan bursting through on the right before teeing up Reus for an
easy tap-in from close range.

But Basel were soon back on terms as a free kick from the right was
nodded in by a grateful Schar.

There was still time for Mkhitaryan to put a further stamp on the
half, however, as he linked up brilliantly with Sahin before
half-volleying into the far corner from the left.

Klopp made nine changes to his team at the break and the game lost
some of its fluency as a result.

However, the Champions League finalists rounded off their victory
with a moment of brilliance in the dying moments.

Hofmann pulled off a fantastic touch to push a cross-field ball past
a despairing Basel defender before showing the presence of mind to
slot the ball home and complete the win.

10 Times Better: Golden Apricot Celebrates Decade Of Film Festivitie

10 TIMES BETTER: GOLDEN APRICOT CELEBRATES DECADE OF FILM FESTIVITIES

Golden Apricot Yerevan 10th International Film Festival has turned
the Armenian capital into one big cinema for one week, where film
masters visiting from different corners of the world present their
creations, both features and documentaries.

Besides the traditional “Yerevan Premiers”, “Retrospectives”, and
“Tributes” programs, this year’s jubilee edition of the festival
also features three special programs: “Georgian Film Week”,
“Sister Festivals” and “Armenians: view from inside and outside”.

“Yerevan Premieres” of the 10th Golden Apricot includes the
Paradise… trilogy by Ulrich Seidl, the first film of which
Paradise:Love was screened during last year’s Golden Apricot and in
2012 was nominated for the Cannes Festival’s Golden Palm (Palm
d’Or) award; this year’s participants are Paradise:Faith and
Paradise:Hope. The program also features The Girl and Death by Jos
Stelling from the Netherlands.

Russian Films Days program has launched with Boris Khlebnikov’s Till
Night Do Us Part. The program is held in cooperation with the Russian
culture ministry and “Kinofest” production company and will present
five other films: Celestial Life of the Meadow Mari, I Will be Next
to You, Intimate Parts, Princess’ War and the Major.

“I am very happy to be in Yerevan to take part in the 10th Golden
Apricot, it is very symbolic. We have submitted such films that are
close to our cultures. People in Russia are familiar with the
Armenian culture and we are very fond of it,” says head of the
RosSotrudnichestvo (Russian Cooperation) representation Victor
Krivopuskov.

“Yerevan Premiers” also includes Hannah Arendt (2012) by German
director Margarethe von Trotta.

“It is a very touching film telling about a Jewish philosopher of
German descent Hannah Arendt. She was the great philosopher Martin
Heidegger’s big love, also his disciple, then secretary,” says the
author of the film.

According to the festival’s creative director Susanna Harutyunyan,
Golden Apricot is regarded as a sister-festival by world-known Busan
and Rotterdam IFFs. So this year a special program will present films
from their official selections. The opening will be by Busan festival
president, Korean actor, director Kim Dong Ho’s film. Also, Tamara
Stepanyan’s Embers will be screened, which last year won the Best
Documentary award in Busan.

In the festival’s International Documentary category Swiss director
Laurence Perigaud presents his Between Two Spirits, telling about
human transformations.

“The main character is Chris who is neither a man nor a woman, but
feels rather like both, caught between the two sexes. Turning 60 this
management professor takes courage to do the biggest change of his
life – a gender reassignment surgery in Thailand, then a year of
femininity training in Switzerland to complete his transformation
into a woman,” tells the director.

French Armenian director Arto Pehlivanian’s V…for Verneiul presents
exclusive archive material about prominent director Henri Verneiul’s
life (Armenian name Ashot Malakian).

“There are no replicas, there was a lot to be said and I think it
worked. Verneiul’s films lead people to a shock, to a new
intellectual platform. He was a greatest of masters to me,” says the
film director.

World-famous singer, song writer, actor Charles Aznavour’s star has
been placed in the square named after him. The “Retrospectives”
include three films with Aznavour starring in them: Ararat (Atom
Egoyan, 2002), Shoot the Piano Player (Francois Truffaut, 1960) and
Taxi for Tobruk (Denys de la Patelliere, 1961).

In the days to follow “Parajanov Thaler” awards will be granted to
Margarette von Trotta, Istvan Szabo, Nerses Hovhannissyan and Jos
Stelling at special events of Jubilees and Yerevan Premieres. Many of
the guests have agreed to hold Master Classes as part of the
Festival.

The jubilee edition of Golden Apricot has received 1,200 applications
for participation from 94 countries (vs 67 in 2012). Aram
Khachaturian’s 110th, Nerses Hovhannissyan’s 75th and Artavazd
Peleshyan’s 75th anniversaries are part of the “Tributes” program.

Monthly 350-400 Syrian Armenians Arrive In Armenia

MONTHLY 350-400 SYRIAN ARMENIANS ARRIVE IN ARMENIA

Over 350-400 Armenians from Syria arrive in Armenia every month,
chairman of working group on Syrian-Armenian issues at ministry of
Diaspora Firdus Zakaryan told Lragir.am, adding that if there were
regular flights between Yerevan and Aleppo, the number of Syrian
Armenians would have been more.

Last month, three flights were carried out between Yerevan and Aleppo
which transported 200 Syrian Armenians in Yerevan.

The main issue of Syrian Armenians here is the apartment. The next
issue which Syrian Armenians face during the first 6-8 months is
the job. According to him, a project on the construction of cheap
apartments for Syrian Armenians is under discussion. A district called
New Aleppo is under construction in Ashtarak town.

As a result of the events in Lebanon, several Armenian families have
already moved to Armenia. Firdus Zakaryan avoided providing details
on the Lebanese issue, underlining that the flow of Armenians from
Lebanon is not big.
