System of a Down singer Serj Tankian is smack dab in the middle of a
creative boom right now, except when it comes to a new SOAD album. The
frontman just shared a video for ‘Yerevan to Paris,’ a song by his
avant jazz side project Jazz-Iz-Christ.

The song appears on the band’s self-titled debut, which is available
now. The video is not a thrilling clip by any means, but it’s not
supposed to be, either. It’s essentially a split screen of the players
making musical love to their instruments. But this type of music is
not really the kind that begs strong visual accompaniment.

It’s really meant to be focused on the ear so zeroing on the the
players with their respective instruments. Any crazy visuals would
have distracted from the avant garde music the band is making.

So enjoy a look at Tankian as he does his thing with a bass guitar.

He’s not the focal point but it is interesting to see him play an
instrument as opposed to standing behind a mic and rocking out,
which is how most fans are used to seeing him.

On Sun., Sept. 22, the two Armenian churches of New Britain will
jointly host Atty. Matthew Karanian for a photographic slide show
and talk featuring his latest book ,Armenia and Karabakh: The Stone

Karanian will tell the story of how he and co-author Robert Kurkjian
created Armenia’s first travel guide more than a decade ago, and how
that guide has grown and evolved through three editions to become
the award-winning book that was recently released.

According to Karanian, the book was created to introduce Armenia to
Armenians and non-Armenians alike who might otherwise not be familiar
with the country, or who might be intimidated about traveling to such
a distant and unfamiliar land.

“The beauty of Armenia never ceases to amaze me,” Karanian says. “I
want to do what I can to help share it with as many people as
possible.”

Armenia and Karabakh: The Stone Garden Travel Guide is a comprehensive
320-page guide book that features 150 color photographs and 30 detailed
color maps.

The latest edition was released earlier this year, and was featured in
an April 28 story in the Los Angeles Times that included an interview
with Karanian. The Times told the story of how Karanian had a “wild
idea” to travel to Armenia in 1995, and described the book that
ultimately resulted as “a fresh view on ancient Armenia.”

The presentation will be held at the Armenian Church of the Holy
Resurrection, 1910 Stanley St., New Britain. The event is co-sponsored
by St. Stephen’s Armenian Apostolic Church of New Britain. There is
plenty of off-street parking and the church is handicapped-accessible.

This is Karanian’s only book presentation in Connecticut. A

Anna Chapman: Armenians Taught Me To Appreciate Importance Of Family

ANNA CHAPMAN: ARMENIANS TAUGHT ME TO APPRECIATE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY RELATIONSHIP

August 29, 2013 | 13:13

YEREVAN. – Armenians taught me to appreciate the importance of family
relationships and put family relationships on a pedestal, ex-spy Anna
Chapman said.

The author and the host of Russian Ren-TV channel Anna Chapman shared
her impressions of the first visit to Armenia.

Chapman said she was impressed having been on a family holiday in
one of Armenian families.

“I learnt a lot from people I met yesterday. I saw a happy family,
I realized that the family is incredibly important. I realized that
it was a great value. You see, when an old man is dancing along
with a three-month baby who is trying to fall asleep on his mother’s
shoulder. This is wisdom. This is something that cannot be tested in
Russia because the family values are not so important even lost in
our country,” she told reporters.

Anna Chapman said her best friends are Armenians and she knows “the
history and the Armenian Genocide.”

“I would not like to speculate that someone is guilty … I’d like
to look to the future. Let’s all get along and treat each other
with respect. Armenians just have to stay the way they are. I do
not have advice for Armenians. On the contrary, I am learning from
the Armenians.”

Anna Chapman is on a visit to Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia as a part
of delegation of the Russian public figures.
