SHAHINYAN TO STAY AS OLYMPICS SYMBOL: THOMAS BACH

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 9, ARMENPRESS: The monument, devoted to the first
Armenian Olympic champion Hrant Shahinyan, was officially opened
in the yard of the Olympic Shift Sports School after Shahinyan. The
solemn ceremony was attended by the President of the International
Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, the President of the Armenian National
Olympic Committee Gagik Tsarukyan and the President of the European
Olympic Committee Patrick Hickey.

The Olympic Games champion, the President of the International Olympic
Committee Thomas Bach delivered a speech at the event, starting it
with the Armenian “Good morning”. “Today all the Armenians and the
entire Olympic movement can be proud, as we pay tribute to one of
the greatest Olympic champions. They are the symbols for our values.

Shahinyan is one of the greatest champions, given to the world by
Armenia. Shahinyan will stay as the symbol of Olympics. Armenians
should be proud of their athletes. Maybe Armenia is not a big country
and has a little population but Armenia is a country with a great
heart…”, – said Thomas Bach, Armenpress reports.

ZHAMANAK: AIR ARMENIA CANCELED FLIGHTS TO MOSCOW

In response to reports of Zhamanak newspaper, Air Armenia continues
to issue statements saying that it has no financial difficulties and
does not cancel flights.

“However, reliable sources say that the airline canceled several
flights to Moscow yesterday and one flight was carried out behind
time,” Zhamanak writes.

The political agenda consolidating the parliamentary political forces
of Armenia and the people should be formed on demands for power
change and inadmissibility of constitutional reforms, the secretary
of Prosperous Armenia (BHK) faction Naira Zohrabyan said at the rally
of the trio of non-pro-government parties in the city of Gyumri.

‘The authorities are gradually leasing Armenia as property to others.

Our foreign debt reached 5 billion. We should not allow these
authorities to rule the country for another ten years by means of
constitutional reforms,” she said.

“I will not speak about the bluff, the venture of these authorities
– the constitutional reforms. Together, we will put an end to it in
Liberty Square on October 10. Yes, it will be difficult, but nothing
comes easy. The authorities have repeatedly proven that they want to
retain power at any price, and we will do everything to prevent that.

Together with you, we will prevent reproduction of power,” N.

Zohrabyan said in conclusion.

She stressed that the people and Armenian political forces are united
as never before.

ARMENIAN PRODUCE WINS MEDVEDEV’S PRAISE AT VDNKH

YEREVAN, October 9. /ARKA/. Russia’s premier Dmitry Medvedev visited
on Wednesday the Armenian pavilion at Golden Autumn 2014 agriculture
exhibition at VDNKh, accompanied by minister of agriculture Nikolay
Fiodorov, the press office of the Armenian ministry of agriculture
reported.

The guests were met by Armenia’s minister of agriculture Sergo
Karapetyan and Armenian ambassador to Russia Oleg Yesayan.

The Russian premier got acquainted with the Armenian produce, including
meat and milk products, juices, preserves, cheeses, alcoholic drink
and cognac in particular.

After having tasted the cognac Medvedev praised its quality and noted
it is in high demand in Russia.

The Russian premier also praised the quality of the Armenian cheese
and said he would like to see other milk products from Armenia as well,
according to the report.

Armenia’s minister of agriculture reminded Medvedev of low efficiency
at Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border, which affects
the Armenian exports to Russia. The premier said they will try to
promptly settle the issue.

As part of his visit to Moscow, Armenia’s minister of agriculture
also met with his colleagues from Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and
Turkmenistan. He agreed with Serbia’s minister of agriculture to sign
a cooperation agreement in the next few days. -0–

KAZAKH SENATE RATIFIES THE TREATY ON EURASIAN ECONOMIC UNION

Kazakhstan’s upper house of parliament, the Senate, on Thursday
ratified the treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union, ITAR-TASS reports.

The document is to be later signed by President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

“The Eurasian Economic Union is a vital project that envisages
cooperation between three major states and implies creating new jobs,
promoting integration and assistance towards raising investment,”
said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who chairs the Senate.

Tokayev stressed that the most important is that the Eurasian Economic
Union Treaty’s fulfillment “contributes to increasing prosperity of
the citizens, the population of the three states.”

Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Yerbolat Dosayev said
the treaty is based on the agreements reached between Kazakhstan,
Russia and Belarus in the framework of the Customs Union and the
Common Economic Space.

By 2025, in the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, Russia,
Belarus and Kazakhstan will open common oil and gas markets, to be
free of export customs duties and restrictions in mutual trade.

The partner-countries have also agreed by that period to allow equal
access of companies to the gas pipeline infrastructure, first of all,
that of Russia, the Kazakh minister said.

The Eurasian Economic Union, which envisages free movement of goods,
services, capital and workforce and is based on the Customs Union of
Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will become operational from January
1, 2015.

The treaty to create the union was signed by presidents of Russia,
Kazakhstan and Belarus Vladimir Putin, Nursultan Nazarbayev and
Alexander Lukashenko in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana on May 29.

DES DIZAINES DE KURDES FONT IRRUPTION AU PARLEMENT EUROPEEN

Plusieurs dizaines de manifestants kurdes ont fait irruption mardi
au parlement europeen a Bruxelles pour attirer l’attention sur
l’avancee du groupe de l’Etat islamique (EI) sur la ville kurde
syrienne de Kobane.

Brandissant des drapeaux kurdes et des banderoles a l’effigie du chef
separatiste turc Abdullah Ocalan, les manifestants, homme et femmes,
ont reussi a penetrer dans le hall du parlement en franchissant les
portails de securite, prenant de vitesse un cordon policier.

Ils ont fait un sit-in, tandis que plusieurs deputes europeens
venaient a leur rencontre. “Nous allons lutter contre l’EI” leur a
lance, en anglais, le chef du groupe socialiste, Gianni Pittella,
recoltant des applaudissements.

Le president du Parlement europeen, Martin Schulz, a ensuite
accepte de recevoir une delegation. Il a souligne que leur facon
d’agir “n’etait peut-etre pas la meilleure”, mais les a assures “du
soutien du Parlement europeen aux efforts internationaux deployes
pour stopper l’EI et promis de convoyer leur message a l’Otan”,
a indique une source du Parlement.

Des combats de rue opposaient mardi les forces kurdes aux jihadistes
dans plusieurs quartiers de Kobane, en passe de tomber aux mains de
l’EI, malgre les frappes de la coalition jugees insuffisantes par
les Kurdes.

A l’issue de la rencontre avec M. Schulz, les protestataires ont
quitte les lieux dans le calme a la mi-journee, selon la meme source.

L’irruption des manifestants kurdes dans un espace en principe très
securise est intervenue alors que se poursuivaient au parlement les
auditions des membres designes de la future Commission Juncker. Les
services de securite du Parlement europeen vont ouvrir une enquete
sur les circonstances de l’incident.

LE CORPS D’UN SABOTEUR AZERI RAPATRIE : LE KARABAGH DIT QU’IL DEMONTRE SON ENGAGEMENT A LA CONVENTION DE GENEVE

La partie armenienne a remis aux representants de l’Azerbaïdjan le
corps de l’un des saboteurs tue au Haut-Karabagh en Juillet lors de
l’arrestation d’un commando qui avait penetre dans le territoire de
la Republique d’Armenie.

La Commission d’Etat sur les prisonniers de guerre , des otages et
des personnes disparues de la Republique du Haut-Karabagh (NKR) a
publie une declaration disant que les autorites du Karabagh ont fait
preuve d’une bonne volonte et de son engagement aux dispositions de
la Convention de Genève, par l’intermediaire du bureau a Stepanakert
du Comite international de la Croix-Rouge, le 2 Octobre, a 11h30,
dans le secteur de la frontière entre le Karabagh et l’Azerbaïdjan,
près du village de Bash Karvend et avait remis aux representants
de l’Azerbaïdjan le corps du troisième membre du groupe de
sabotage-reconnaissance qui avait penetre dans le territoire
du Karabagh près de Shahumyan. Il a dit que Hasan Hasanov a ete
“neutralise et detruit” après avoir montre de la resistance lors de
son arrestation.

Pendant ce temps, l’Azerbaïdjan n’a pas encore retourne a l’Armenie
le corps du resident du village de l’Armenie de Chinari Karen
Petrossian, 31 ans, qui, selon la partie azerbaïdjanaise, est mort
d’une insuffisance cardiaque en captivite en Azerbaïdjan le 8 Août.

La semaine dernière, la Commission d’Etat des prisonniers de guerre,
les otages et les personnes disparues du Karabagh a dit qu’en Juillet
quand Hasanov a ete tue son identite n’etait pas claire et qu’après
que son identite ait ete etablie, les autorites du Karabagh ont pris
une decision appropriee.

“Compte tenu de la circonstance que l’identite de cette personne a
ete etabli et qu’il etait un citoyen de la Republique d’Azerbaïdjan,
les autorites du Karabagh, ce qui demontre la bonne volonte et
l’engagement aux dispositions de la Convention de Genève, de facon
unilaterale ont exprime leur volonte de remettre le corps d’Hasanov
a la Republique d’Azerbaïdjan >>, dit la declaration.

Il est a noter que le corps de la saboteur a ete remis a l’Azerbaïdjan
le jour meme où un prisonnier de guerre armenien Hagop Injighulyan
est revenu en Armenie en provenance d’un pays tiers, après avoir
passe plus d’un an en captivite en Azerbaïdjan.

Un debat sur le retour d’Injighulyan en Armenie a eu lieu en Juillet.

Certains avis ont suggere qu’il fallait echanger Injighulyan contre un
soldat azeri qui avait ete capture lors d’une fusillade dans la region
du Karvatchar. Le ministre armenien de la Defense Seyran Ohanian
lors d’une conference le 6 Août avait declare qu’aucun echange ne
serait fait parce que

DES MILLIERS DE MANIFESTANTS CONTRE LE GOUVERNEMENT A GUMRI

Les trois principaux partis d’opposition ont rassembles des milliers
de partisans a Gumri hier, mettant fin a une tournee regionale de
deux semaines visant a solliciter des soutiens populaires pour leur
grande manifestation anti-gouvernementale prevue a Erevan.

Le BHK, le Congrès national armenien et le Zharangutyun ont de nouveau
declare que le > est l’objectif principal
de leur campagne commune.

“Je l’ai dit [lundi] et je suis vais le repeter : le gouvernement
doit s’en aller”, a declare Naira Zohrabian (BHK), devant la foule
rassemblee sur la place centrale de Gumri. “Nous ne devons pas
permettre a ce gouvernement de s’accrocher au pouvoir pendant 10 ans
de plus grâce aux amendements constitutionnels “.

“Les autorites sont a blâmer pour la situation dans laquelle nous
sommes”, a declare Stepan Markarian, un autre representant du parti
dirige par le businessman Gagik Tsarukian.

“Voulez-vous un changement de regime ? Le voulez-vous maintenant ? ”
a demande Armen Martirosian, vice-president du Zharangutyun, invitant
la foule a scander “oui”.

Le trio de l’opposition a commence a voyager a travers les regions
armeniennes le 25 septembre dans un effort pour sensibiliser le public
a leur campagne et assurer une forte presence a la manifestation
d’Erevan demain. Levon Zurabian, un leader du HAK, a parle d’une
“revolution de velours” qui se deroule en Armenie.

S’exprimant lors de la manifestation Gumri, Zurabian a affirme que
les autorites armeniennes ont “vraiment peur” de la manifestation
de vendredi, qui coïncidera avec un sommet cle de l’Union economique
eurasienne a Minsk.

KAZAKHSTAN-ARMENIAN COMMUNITY REP. MAY BE FINED FOR SNATCHING JOURNALIST’S RECORDER

The Armenian Investigation Committee has instituted a criminal case
in behalf of a violation against a journalist’s work. The complaint
was presented by local daily “Haykakan Zhamanak” journalist Taguhi
Hovhannisyan in regards to an incident on October 3.

The journalist had told her editor that on the day of the incident in
the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet building,
where the “Armenia-Diaspora” conference was taking place, the director
of the Kazakhstan-Armenian community’s Nairi Association, Artyusha
Karapetyan snatched her audio recorder. Then Karapetyan asked his
escorts to grab and take away the journalist’s telephone. One of the
escorts, whose badge wrote “Abrahamyan A”, snatched her phone and
deleted a video recording and returned the phone back to her.

According to the Investigation Committee report, the Kentron (Downtown)
investigation department instituted a criminal case RA criminal
code article 164, first part (hindrance to the legal professional
activities of a journalist, or forcing the journalist to disseminate
information or not to disseminate information).

If the investigation finds Karapetyan guilty, then he would be
receiving minimal punishment of the sum of 200 to 400 minimum
salaries. Artyusha Karapetyan has received significant protest from
his community for election fraud, for closing the church as retaliation
to protests, and restricting Armenian Genocide commemorations.

VICTORIA SILVER COMPANY SEEKS TO RECOVER 11 TONS OF GOLD IN LORI REGION, ARMENIA

Victoria Silver LLC seeks to recover 11 tons of gold from Martsiget
gold-polymetallic deposit located in Lori region, Armenia. Gagik
Khojayan, Director of Victoria Silver LLC said at public hearings in
Lori, EcoLur reports.

The public hearings were held on the Martz-Prvashen-Budaghidzor gold
polymetallic mine demonstration submitted by Victoria Silver LLC. By
preliminary forecasts, the company anticipates recovery of 2,700,000
tons of ore, 11 tons of gold reserve, around 30 tons of silver and
around 10.000 tons of copper.

“Gold concentration is expected to be 4.3 gr per ton, silver –
11 gr per ton. Copper – 0.34%, lead – 0.7% and zinc – 1.8%. These
concentrations are initial ones, Khojayan said.

According to him, Victoria Silver LLC plans explorations in
Martz-Prvashen-Budaghidzor gold polymetallic mine demonstration to
check the reliability of the previous works carried out and then
geoprospecting for evaluating the reserves. In case the outcomes are
positive, he said, the company will launching mining. “In case of
positive outcomes, we plan to drill 10 holes to intersect them in the
depth… it’s a project for 3 years,” he said. “We have submitted the
environmental impact assessment for the environmental expertise, it
will undergo expertise, if something is wrong, they will give it back.
