Russian journalist Ivleva doesn’t confirm Azerbaijani propaganda
fabrications about refugee from Khojalu

13:52 28/02/2015 >> SOCIETY

The site Xocali.net goes on revealing
the falsifications of Azerbaijani propaganda over the events in Aghdam
in 1992.

The story of Mehriban Bekirova, a Turk-Meskhet refugee from Fergana,
has long been scrupulously studied thanks to the Russian journalist
Victoria Ivleva’s reportage (). However,
23 years later Bekirova has started to ‘remember’ strange details from
the ‘captivity’.

The Azerbaijani site Vesti.az published ‘a story that Russian
journalist Victoria Ivleva’s lens missed.’ It’s worth to note that the
remark that Victoria Ivleva hadn’t seen that, was done in purpose as
it’s obvious that she wouldn’t back such fabrications.

23 years later Bekirova started to claim that ‘she had been beaten,’
‘they cut off with a bayonet a teenage girl’s breast which fell right
onto her unhappy father’s face,’ ‘my [Bekirova’s] whole body got
swollen,’ ‘Victoria frequently visited me and wondered how I was,’
‘they cut a (pregnant woman’s) belly and put a kitten inside, and then
stitched it up. It was known later, and the newspapers wrote about
it.’

According to Victoria Ivleva’s evidence, Bekirova and the rest of the
Turk-Meskhets remained in the Armenian captivity for only 2 days. This
means that the events described in the ‘story’ took place during in
total of 48 hours.

Bekirova claims, “Viktoria frequently visited me and wondered how I
was,” yet no one not a single time complained her of ‘tortures’,
‘harassment’, ‘beating’ and ‘cutting of parts of the body’.

According to Bekirova’s story, she “had seen everything with her own
eyes”, ‘the tortures’ took place in the same room they were kept in;
therefore she is supposed to have totally been covered with blood.
Visiting that room, Ivleva has recorded neither any trace of blood,
nor a grieving father whose daughter’s cut breast was thrown onto his
face. Logically, that sort of horror couldn’t remain unnoticed by a
professional journalist and photographer. Nonetheless, neither blood,
nor grieving father, and nor a mention about the happening were
captured by the journalist. Her shots show frozen, weary and upset
people, but in no way tortured or harassed.

Given that the Azerbaijani side trusts Victoria Ivleva’s evidence
having twice interviewed her and invited to Baku since 1992, then they
will hardly suspect her in deliberately missing or not noticing ‘the
horrors of the Armenian captivity’, suddenly revealed 23 years later.
The fact is that Ivleva’s photos shot at different times during ‘the
captivity’, don’t show any difference in neither Bekirova’s nor other
people’s appearance; she doesn’t seem to be beaten or tortured.

Regarding the fetus cut off its mother’s womb, it’s a widespread and
quite consistent myth of Azerbaijani propaganda, which was this time
related by a ‘witness’. First, not a single Azerbaijani source which
has published various, even suspicious lists of casualties, has
contained a mention of a pregnant woman. In their stories the
witnesses mention each other’s names, which the Armenian side, in its
turn, compares with the names published by the Azerbaijani side.
Usually those are already deceased people’s names; however,
inconsistencies, misinterpretations or obvious falsifications are
discovered here, too. Yet as soon as it comes to victims to inhuman
tortures, deliberate murders or ‘oblations’, they turn into “anonymous
young men”, “anonymous pregnant women”, “teenage girls” and their
“unhappy fathers”. Second, as the “newspapers wrote about it”, we
wonder in which newspaper it was published.

Moreover, the volunteer of the project Site Xocali.net got in touch
with Victoria Ivleva and asked her, “Ms. Ivleva, do you confirm that
information?” She responded amply and definitely, “Absolutely not,
except for the fact that I have met unhappy Mehriban and that I have
carried her baby, and then I gave her some small amount of money. I
have already written to the author, but I guess it’s useless. Alas,
for more than 20 years neither of your countries has made any, even a
tiny step towards peace…” Citing Victoria Ivleva, whom the Azerbaijani
side has no reason to distrust, would be just in place, “The guarding
soldiers treated the Turk-Meskhets humanly.”

On February 26, 1992, during the war in Karabakh, around 200 to 300
people (according to Human Rights Watch, and 600 according to the
version propagated by Azerbaijan) were killed in unknown circumstances
near the city of Aghdam. They have been deliberately withheld by the
Azerbaijani authorities in the midst of the military actions.
Population of the village of Khojalu, which was one of the firing
points shooting at the blockaded Stepanakert (among five others) was
kept in the village for months by force and was not evacuated by the
authorities of Azerbaijan deliberately, in order to use them as human
shields later.

Residents of Khojalu coming out through the humanitarian corridor,
that the self-defense forces of NKR had left open, freely passed more
than 10 km and reached the Aghdam city controlled by the Azerbaijani
troops. Later, not far from the positions of Azerbaijani troops dead
bodies of the villagers were found. The exact death toll remains
unknown as the official Baku publishes data contradicting each other.
Parliamentary Commission investigating the tragic death of the
civilians at Aghdam city was dissolved by the order of Heydar Aliyev,
the investigative materials are kept secret.

New Misinformation From Azerbaijan: Arizona Senate Didn’t Recognise

NEW MISINFORMATION FROM AZERBAIJAN: ARIZONA SENATE DIDN’T RECOGNISE EVENTS IN AGHDAM IN 1992 AS ‘GENOCIDE’

17:13 27/02/2015 >> POLITICS

Azerbaijani media are once again spreading disinformation about
Legislative assembly in Arizona Senate (US) passing a resolution which
“recognizes the events in Khojaly as genocide” thus attempting to
create an illusion of “victory of Azerbaijani diplomacy”.

Yet, watching the video from the senate hearing, it becomes evident
that Senator Don Shooter’s statement, read in a half-empty hall,
called on “to honour the memory of the victims of the tragic events.”

As it was expected, the text read lacked the word ‘genocide’.

Moreover, it’s noteworthy that it was only a proclamation, yet the
Azerbaijani propaganda is trying to present it as a Senate resolution.

On February 26, 1992, during the war in Karabakh, around 200 to 300
people (according to Human Rights Watch, and 600 according to the

POLITICS HAS NO RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT 100 YEARS AFTER ARMENIAN GENOCIDE: ALBERT WEILER

13:24, 27 February, 2015

BERLIN, FEBRUARY 27, ARMENPRESS. It’s more than clear for Albert
Weiler, member of the German Bundestag, that the massacres and
deportation of the Armenians carried out by the Young Turks’
government in the Ottoman Empire, was the first genocide of the
20th century. The German MP representing the Christian Democratic
Union of Bundestag attended the commemoration event dedicated to the
100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide held in Berlin. Weiler
gave a comment on this occasion and noted that the great powers did
not stop the mass killings of the Christian Armenians at that time,
which would be possible from today’s point of view. “Politics has no
right to remain silent 100 years after.”

As reports “Armenpress”, Weiler reminded that the CDU/CSU (the
Christian Democratic Union/ the Christian Social Union) fraction
of Bundestag has called for a number of times upon Turkey to free
themselves from the burden of sad heritage.

Among other things, the German MP noted: “It’s sad that till now
Turkey is not ready to apologize for the acts of their ancestors. I
find that the recognition of this sad page of history must become
a precondition of democratic integration in the 21st century. It’s
an urgent necessity for a country, aspiring to join the EU, to face
with its own past and reassess it.”

Also, the German MP stated that they had hopes on the reconciliation
process after signing the Armenian-Turkish protocols. “But today
I regret that the process of reconciliation had no progress. I am
confident that clearly naming the injustice, which took place, and
its recognition by the authorities of today’s Turkey will be good
condition for reconciliation. We’ll continue making efforts in that
direction,” Albert Weiler noted.

Albert Weiler intends to create a German-Armenian forum in Bundestag
aiming to establish closer Armenian-German relations in various
spheres and encouraging ties between the societies.

Armenia Imported Record 9.2 5 Million Liters Of Vodka Last Year

ARMENIA IMPORTED RECORD 9.2 5 MILLION LITERS OF VODKA LAST YEAR

YEREVAN, February 27. / ARKA /. Armenian companies imported last
year the record 9.25 million liters of vodka and 700,000 liters of
spirit, Avag Harutyunyan, chairman of the Union of Armenian Winemakers
said today.

Speaking at a news conference he said the bulk of vodka was imported
from Russia. According to him, the amount of imported beverages has
grown noticeably over the last two years with Armenians preferring
imported vodka to locally made.

Last year Armenian companies imported also 215,000 liters of wine,
down from 350,000 liters imported in the previous year.

Harutyunyan noted that in comparison with 2013, the past year was
quite good in terms of wine exports. In particular, local companies
sold abroad 2.12 million liters of wine against 1.4 million liters in
2013. About 90% of exported wine was shipped to Russia, Belarus and
Kazakhstan, which together with Armenia make the Eurasian Economic
Union (EEU).

According to the National Statistical Service, in the first ten
months of 2014 wine production in Armenia fell by 8.5% from the year
before to 4.3 million liters, while production of champagne grew by 5%
to 282,300 liters.

Also production of vodka and alcoholic beverages decreased by 6.6%
to 7.365 million liters, beer production rose by 30.2% to 22.1 million
liters and brandy production fell by 5.6% to 14.7 million liters.-0-

SAMVEL BEGLARYAN. “BEING A PARTICIPANT OF THE KARABAKH MOVEMENT HAS BECOME A TORTOISE SHELL.”

February 26 2015

27 years have passed since the beginning of the Karabakh movement. We
asked the Head of the Tavush regional office of the Writers’ Union of
Armenia, the writer of Noyemberyan city Samuel Beglaryan about the
movement’s achievements, shortcomings and mistakes. He said, “When
it started with environmental matters, Abovyan’s movement reached the
Yerevan city square. We understood that it was just a mask, a cover,
a shield, there was a subtext, there were lower obstacles, it was a
national movement and a national awakening. And the fact that we began
with expectations and we saw what was the beginning. If we compare it
with today, I am very much sorry, but it happens that very nice parents
give birth to defective children, defective generations. And today,
20-25 years later, as a result we are having a child who was born
with heart defect and acquired it after the birth. In my opinion, it
was acquired later, at the beginning it was very clean, very pure and
nationwide. Later, it got sick with an untreatable virus. And today,
hundreds and thousands of people speculate saying that they were at
the sources of the national liberation movement. But as a flag, it
fits in the National Assembly and the offices. Today, the Karabakh
movement and being a participant of the national liberation movement
has become a tortoise shell, in other words, they are protected with
this. Anyway, homeland is not something to whom the fact of your
being in service is made a flag. It is our obligation to serve. In
other words, it turns out that the Karabakh movement did not reach its
goal, but serves the goals of the individuals and personalities. It’s
a very bad situation and a very sad situation.

However, it does not mean we should separate Armenia-Karabakh,
Armenia-Diaspora. We have one nation – ill-fated and scattered around
the world. Today, it is a sad situation when the Turks declare, “What
Armenian diaspora; they have gone from our country, it is ours. Today,
Azerbaijan says that Karabakh belongs to it. In other words, we are
constantly fighting to say that what we imagined is ours. This is a
tragic situation. When there is a problem of a nation, we must forget
the people who have made the Karabakh movement a flag, who make the
Karabakh movement serve their person. We have to forget it.”
