Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan sent a letter of condolence to the
Prime Minister of Norway and the Norwegian Government on the tragic
events in Oslo and Utoya. The message reads in part:
“We strongly condemn any demonstration of intolerance and terrorism and
we share sorrow of the friendly people of Norway at this hard moment.”

Un deuxième photographe georgien, sur les trois accuses d’espionnage au
profit de la Russie, est passe aux aveux reconnaissant avoir transmis
des informations secrètes a son collègue soupconne d’etre un agent
de Moscou, dans une video remise lundi a la presse.
Guiorgui Abdaladze, photographe du ministère des Affaires etrangères
dit dans cet enregistrement avoir transmis des informations sur
des rencontres a haut niveau a Zourab Kourtsikidze, photographe de
l’agence europeenne EPA.
“Kourtsikidze m’a demande non seulement de prendre des photos mais
aussi d’enregistrer des conversations”, dit Guiorgui Abdaladze dans
cette video transmise par le parquet au cours d’un point de presse.
Le film de 16 minutes montre Abdaladze assis a une table avec son
avocat et parlant a des procureurs.
Il explique avoir collecte des informations sur des reunions
officielles grâce a son accès aux ordinateurs du ministère des
Affaires etrangères.
Un autre suspect, Irakli Guedenidze, photographe officiel du president
Mikheïl Saakachvili, avait egalement ete montre a la television,
avouant avoir transmis des photos et des informations a Kourtsikidze.
Les photographes arretes le 7 juillet sont accuses d’avoir recueilli
et transmis des informations secrètes aux services de renseignement
russes.
Ils sont en detention provisoire, ce qui peut durer jusqu’a deux mois,
et risquent jusqu’a 12 ans de prison.
La Georgie a annonce a plusieurs reprises ces dernières annees avoir
demantele des reseaux d’espions russes.
Les deux pays entretiennent des relations execrables et se sont
opposes dans une guerre eclair en août 2008 pour le contrôle de la
region separatiste georgienne d’Ossetie du Sud. Le conflit s’est
solde par la defaite de Tbilissi.

The Turks are openly speaking today of the restoration of the
Ottoman Empire. Of course, they wish to do so with a different sort
of packaging; however, it is essentially not a different thing. And
this is not simply a case of mere discussions, but there is in fact
a clear state policy that is being planned and implemented. If Lenin
once referred to the Russian Empire as a “prison of peoples”, then the
Ottoman Empire can certainly be called an “abattoir of peoples”. The
discussions are about restoring that very slaughterhouse. There has
been no other state in the world – at least for the past five hundred
years – where people of minority ethnicities or religions have been
subject to such diverse forms of discrimination, ruthless massacres,
and, ultimately, unprecedented genocide, all at the level of the
state and national legislation. Can you imagine what would occur if
the Germans spoke of restoring the Third Reich or its influence? And
we remained and are remaining silent when it comes to similar calls
by the Turks, instead of protesting against it at every available
political opportunity as a people and state that has been subject
to genocide and national dispossession by that very empire and its
successor state. Perhaps our expectation is that the Turks will repay
our reticence with gratitude: a blissful naïvete, which can only be
borne by one who does not know the Turks. Is it not clear enough
already that the restoration of the Ottoman Empire, regardless of
how such a thing would manifest itself, would imply the end of the
Republic of Armenia?
A few days ago, in response to a simple question by a school student
on future borders of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan gave quite a mild, very
general, and, I would even say an evasive answer. What is more, he
essentially said that he himself had no intention of presenting any
demands to Turkey, as he considered the work of his own generation at
an end. He did not say that, as President of the Republic of Armenia,
he will do all in his power to end the illegal occupation by Turkey
of the rightful territories – I repeat, those rightful territories,
and not some abstract Armenian lands – of the Republic of Armenia.
This incident would probably have gone unnoticed if there were not such
a clamour raised by Turkey in turn. And what is Turkey’s intention in
this case? I believe it is yet another attempt at receiving assurances
from Armenia (that have already been once laid out in those protocols),
that Armenia has no demands from Turkey, that is, yet another act
of humiliating Armenia in international circles through the means of
denial. Turkey’s conduct today is also informed by the secret of the
infamous Armenia-Turkey protocols. Many ask, why would Turkey have
pursued having those protocols signed, if it was already known that
they would not be ratified? But what kind of a question is that, if
they did not serve to publicly humiliate the Armenian state? Turkey
showcased to the world that the Armenians are ready to go to almost
any length – to deny everything – in order to establish relations.
This as a practical matter. And as far as the more far-reaching
matters go, the intentions of Turkey are much more dangerous. The
Turks desire to deprive the Armenians of even the right to dream. The
Turks have deprived us of almost everything, and now they wish to
imprison our spirits and shackle our minds. If a nation lets go of
its capacity to dream, then it is rendered into a consumer-driven
marketplace. Dreaming, even dreaming of things that seem impossible,
is the salt of the spirit of a nation, which preserves the nation
from decay.

“It has become a common practice in Azerbaijan to disseminate
information that an Azerbaijani civilian or soldier has been killed or
wounded as a result of fire opened by the Armenian side,” Spokesman for
the Armenian Ministry of Defense David Karapetyan said, commenting on
the information disseminated by Azerbaijani media that a 22-year-old
Azeri woman was allegedly wounded.
“Azerbaijani media had better publicize the statistics of the ceasefire
violations by their country, which is growing every month causing
greater harms,” he added.
For instance, on July 26 at 18:20 contract servicemen of the Armenian
armed forces Karen Ghukasyan, born in 1976, and Manvel Vanesyan, born
in 1987, were wounded as a result of fire opened by the Azerbaijani
side.
“The Armenian side is committed to the maintenance of the ceasefire
regime and takes response actions only in case of extreme necessity.
Azerbaijan carries the responsibility for every citizen wounded
as a result of response measures taken by the Armenian side. The
Azerbaijani side is free to apply to any authorized international
structure to launch a probe into the case,” David Tonoyan stated

Le comite en charge d’organiser les evenements festifs afin de marquer
le 150ème anniversaire de la naissance de Fridtjof Nansen a confirme la
construction d’un monument dedie au grand humaniste au centre d’Erevan.
Le Ministère armenien de la Culture a lance un appel d’offre pour la
construction du monument. Les resultats seront analyses le 1er août.
Le comite consultera aussi le conseil municipal de la ville d’Erevan
pour le choix du monument.
Fridtjof Nansen (10 octobre 1861 – 13 mai 1930) etait un explorateur
norvegien, scientifique, diplomate, laureat du Prix Nobel. Avant 1925
il a passe beaucoup de temps a essayer d’aider les refugies armeniens
victimes du Genocide armenien et de mauvais traitements par la suite.

Aujourd’hui, au Musee du Genocide Armenien, ont eu lieu les
presentations du livre de George Brezol “Les Turcs ont passe par la”
(en francais), de celui de Ferriman Ducket ” The Young Turcs and the
Truth about the Holocaust at Adana in Asia Minor (Les Jeunes Turcs et
la Verite sur les Massacres d’Adana en Asie Mineure)” (en anglais),
et de celui d’Adossidès “Armeniens et Jeunes Turcs : Les Massacres de
Cilicie” (en Francais), publies grâce au soutien du Directeur General
Ralph Yirikian de VivaCell-MTS.
La collection du Musee-Institut du Genocide Armenien s’est enrichie
de pièces nouvelles et precieuses grâce a la deja traditionnelle
cooperation entre le musee et VivaCell-MTS.
Avec le soutien direct du Directeur General de VivaCell-MTS Ralph
Yirikian, au cours des six mois precedents, la collection du
musee s’est enrichie d’elements uniques : une collection de cartes
postales sur le thème de l’Armenie de l’Ouest et des Armeniens,
de la litterature, point de depart potentiel pour des recherches
importantes, des documents historiques sur l’aide humanitaire aux
Armeniens survivants du Genocide, des images originales sur les
refugies armeniens, des pièces, lettres, timbres relatifs a la vie
des Armeniens de l’Ouest avant le Genocide, des photos de familles
armeniennes renommees, ainsi que des journaux anciens très importants
pouvant figurer dans les expositions. Pour la plupart, les objets a
exposer ont ete obtenus grâce au soutien de la famille d’Armeniens
d’Amerique Hannessian.
L’acquisition des pièces de musee qui precèdent est très importante,
s’agissant d’enrichir l’exposition en cours et d’organiser de nouvelles
expositions. La collection Ralph Yirikian du Musee-Institut du Genocide
Armenien en particulier, faisait deja partie de l’exposition temporaire
“Genocide Armenien et La Reponse Scandinave”.
“Vivre dans le passe est sans doute une erreur. Mais pour assurer un
avenir paisible et sûr a nos enfants, nous devons obtenir justice
aujourd’hui. Chaque Armenien doit apporter sa contribution a cette
Cause, et donc manifester son respect a la memoire de nos ancetres
disparus. C’est pour moi une question de responsabilite personnelle
devant les membres de ma famille”, a dit le directeur general de
VivaCell-MTS Ralph Yirikian.
Rappelons ici, avec le soutien du directeur general de VivaCell-MTS,
la publication en 2010-2011 de la serie des trois ouvrages sur la
Cilicie, elements importants inedits sur les massacres d’Adana :
“Les Turcs ont passe par la” de George Brezol (en francais), ” The
Young Turcs and the Truth about the Holocaust at Adana in Asia Minor
(Les Jeunes Turcs et la Verite sur les Massacres d’Adana en Asie
Mineure)” de Ferriman Ducket (en anglais), et “Armeniens et Jeunes
Turcs : Les Massacres de Cilicie” (en Francais), d’ Adossidès.
Ces monographies sont de première importance dans la mesure où ces
elements inedits qui sont restes assez longtemps a l’etat de pièces
bibliographiques rares, doivent etre a present publies et mis en
circulation.
Les publications anciennes faites grâce au patronage de Ralph Yirikian
feront partie de la presentation “Les Livres, Temoins du Genocide” qui
est prevue a partir du 23 avril 2012, dans le cadre des manifestations
Erevan capitale mondiale du livre.
Le Directeur du Musee-Institut du Genocide Hayk Demoyan a remis la
Medaille d’Or au Directeur General de VivaCell-MTS Ralph Yirikian
pour ses dons genereux, distinction attribuee aux bienfaiteurs et
autres personnalites de haut rang ayant rendu visite au Musee du
Genocide Armenien.

Un depute de la Federation Revolutionnaire Armenienne (Dashnaktsutyun)
a reaffirme l’attitude negative de son parti au dialogue en cours
entre le HAK et le pouvoir politique actuel.
Artsvik Minasian a pretendu que le dialogue sert les interets
paroissiaux du President Serge Sarkissian et du chef du Congrès
National Armenien (HAK) Levon Ter-Petrosian et ne profitera pas au
public. Il a dit qu’il pourra seulement faciliter le maintien de
Sarkissian au pouvoir.
” Si nous parlons de la tolerance politique, de la consolidation
nationale, de l’elimination de la haine, de rencontre conjointe face
aux defis auxquels fait face le pays, pourquoi le dialogue est-il
seulement entre eux ? Pourquoi ont-ils aliene les autres forces
? ” a demande M.Minasian pendant un debat public avec un collègue
progouvernemental.
” Pourquoi le HAK lance-t-il de la boue a ces forces d’opposition
qui expriment des vues discordantes ? ” a-t-il dit. ” Et pourquoi les
autorites essayent-elles de pousser l’opposition autre que celle du
HAK dans un coin pour denigrer son rôle ? ”
Le parti Zharangutyun (Heritage), une autre force de l’opposition
representee au Parlement, est aussi fortement critique face a ce
dialogue. Son chef, Raffi Hovannisian, le mois dernier averti ”
d’une connivence ” entre les deux parties en pourparlers.

” Hayots Ashkhar ” s’entretient avec Davit Harutiunian, le president
de la commission parlementaire des affaires juridiques et a la tete
d’une delegation representant la direction de l’Armenie dans les
pourparlers en cours avec l’opposition du Congrès national armenien
(HAK). ” Nous sommes prets a discuter de l’ensemble des questions, y
compris celle des elections anticipees “, a affirme Harutiunian. ” Si
le HAK le souhaite, nous en parlerons. Je ne peux pas predire quelles
sont les reponses attendues a ce sujet. Mais cela depend egalement
des conclusions de ces discussions avant le prochain rallye du HAK “.
Harutiunian ne precise pas si son equipe fera des propositions qui
pourraient convaincre le HAK d’abandonner la demande de nouvelles
elections. ” Le dialogue permet aux partis de presenter l’ensemble
de leurs revendications et peut parvenir a une conclusion differente
mais mutuellement acceptable “, a -t-il affirme.
” Les autorites ont toujours avance par le biais de contacts avec
l’opposition et cela cree une nouvelle culture politique dans notre
pays “, a exprime ” Yerkir “. ” On peut penser que le dialogue est
absolument etranger a la realite armenienne et que les relations entre
les forces politiques sont toujours loin d’etre civilisees. ” Les
coalitions gouvernementales et les alliances politiques en Armenie ont
ete formees sur ” la base du dialogue “. ” Qui plus est, un veritable
dialogue a ete beaucoup plus ouvert et transparent dans le passe “.
“Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun” a tourne en ridicule la dernière
justification du Premier ministre Tigran Sarkissian au sujet de la
sortie des capitaux des entreprises armeniennes. La semaine dernière,
ce dernier a affirme que les autorites armeniennes ne peuvent pas
l’interdire en raison de leur ” politique economique liberale “. ”
Ainsi, cet homme ne fait rien a part interdire ou ne pas interdire
les choses “, a-t-il dit. ” Cela ne lui a pas traverse l’esprit qu’au
lieu d’interdire les sorties de capitaux, il faut d’abord s’assurer
que les affaires armeniennes soient benefiques et que l’argent investi
en Armenie provienne d’autres pays “.
Amanda Paul, analyste au Centre politique europeen, affirme que l’echec
du sommet armeno-azebaïdjanais a Kazan etait ” très decevant ” pour
la communaute internationale. ” Les negociations sont a nouveau en
regression. L’Armenie et l’Azerbaïdjan se renvoient la responsabilite
de l’echec de la reunion “.

75 year-old Ara Baliozian is an author, translator, and critic,
born in Athens, Greece. He received his education at the Mekhitarist
College of Moorat-Raphael in Venice, where he also studied economics
and political science at the University of Ca Foscari.
Readers will not be able to find any of his works in Armenia, despite
the author’s efforts to the contrary. He has authored over 30 works
in both Armenian and English.
He now lives in Ontario, Canada, where he devotes his full time to
writing. He now mostly posts his works on different Armenian internet
discussion boards.
I had the opportunity to converse with the iconoclast writer and
thinker via the internet.
You have written and thought about our culture for years. What is
your general opinion regarding our culture?
This is my answer. Since I refuse to reproduce Armenian propaganda,
I have become an undesirable, a dreaded ‘non-person’, a traitor.
Your works were published in scores of Armenian periodicals. Why did
they turn against you?
Because I began to think independently, in opposition to the propaganda
path they held dear.
They hate you in Armenia. Is it that you are extremely anti-Armenian
and pro-Turkish, or are we, here in Armenia, so intolerant?
I am a supporter of justice. As ottomanized and sovietized Armenians,
we have a tendency to be intolerant.
What, in your opinion, are the views that have made you enemies?
Probably because I have exposed the insincerity and incompetence of
our leaders.
How does it feel to be forsaken in the fatherland?
It just an ordinary experience; like any other. At different times
all Armenian writers have been wrongly accused of various crimes that
they never committed.
You claim that we are living in a situation where strong propaganda
reigns. What particular aspects do you see as a result of this
propaganda?
Well, let’s take the fact that we are obliged to write the word God
with a capital letter and it’s anathema to say anything against God.
Then there is our Turko-centrific side – the belief that our destiny
remains in the hands of the Turks.
It appears that there are certain themes that are off-limits in
Armenia. Perhaps in the same way as the Orhan Pamuk incident in Turkey.
The Turks are way ahead of us. Just the fact that they’ve had a Nobel
Prize winner attests to this.
How do you work with literary agents in Canada?
Canadian and American literary agents are only interested in books
that will make money. My writings have no such value.
What does it mean to be a writer of Armenian descent?
It means to belong to a community that has always fallen victim to
foreign and domestic dictators.
What can you say about Armenian literature?
We’ve had literary giants but treated them like tiny mosquitoes.
Do Armenians in the diaspora avoid your critiques?
Armenians only agree on one thing – manufactured propaganda, including
that of the enemy.
Can one be patriotic but not fascist?
There is an element of fascism in all Armenian patriotism and
nationalism.
Do you see any salvation on the horizon or are we doomed?
To write signifies to hold out hope.
So you have hope that Armenia will somehow change its attitude towards
you one day?
I hope so but I wouldn’t bet on it.
PM TIGRAN SARGSYAN MEETS REPRESENTATIVES OF HANIEL GROUP

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received today the delegation of the
Haniel Group, which comprised representatives of the “Eurodress,”
“Hens Natur” and the Armenian “VKS Armenia” branches.
The Prime Minister welcomed the Company’s activity in our country,
underlining that Armenia is interested in creating favorable conditions
for investor companies.
The guests briefed Tigran Sargsyan on the process of implementation of
Haniel Group programs in Armenia and touched upon the future programs.
The perspectives of implementation of new programs in the field of
light industry were discussed.
Representatives of the Company emphasized the role of human potential
in the effective implementation of the programs. In this context they
attached importance to the training of specialists.
