seismically dangerous zones, seismologist Vladimir Balasanyan stated

In his words, nothing extraordinary has occurred. “There have been,
there are, and there will always be earthquakes in Armenia. What’s
important is to think as to how to build and prepare for earthquakes,”
Balasanyan noted, advising not to panic in any way. And in this regard,
he emphasized Japan’s example.

“In actual fact, we are not prepared to encounter earthquakes in such
way that we may suffer little damage,” the seismologist maintained.

During his visit to Serbia, Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu expressed
his bewilderment at the press writing that Turkey has closed its
doors before international relief that was offered for the country’s
earthquake.

Davutoglu maintained that they have not turned down any country
wishing to render assistance. “I was very surprised to hear that the
international press wrote that Turkey has closed its doors before
international relief. On the contrary, Turkey’s PM thanked all those
countries for the assistance. Relief has come from approximately
twenty countries, and we are thankful for that,” Ahmet Davutoglu told
Anadolu News Agency.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, Turkish PM Recep Tayyip
Erdogan had said Turkey is capable of surmounting the tremor’s effects
on its own, but at the same time thanked all those countries, including
Armenia and Israel, which offered to provide assistance.

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. “Despite uncoordinated issues in the
process of negotiations on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict,
the start of work on a large peace agreement would be a signal of peace
intentions of both sides”, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan
Elmar Mammadyarov said, APA reports.

Mammadyarov said he couldn’t meet with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs
during their recent visit to the region because he was on a foreign
trip. Minister noted that the negotiations on the settlement of Nagorno
Karabakh conflict are continued. “The negotiations are going on and
of course, no one hopes that the conflict will be settled within a
day. The negotiations should move step-by-step. We many times offered
to the co-chairs to start the talks on a large peace agreement”.

Touching upon the co-chairs’ statement on incidents in the contact
line between the Armenian and Azerbaijani troops, Mammadyarov said: “A
child was killed as a result of ceasefire violation by the Armenians.

The people living near the contact line in Azerbaijan are in danger.

Azerbaijan’s position is that to solve the problem, at first,
Armenian troops must be withdrawn from the occupied territories. If
Armenian troops are withdrawn, there will be no need in snipers and
the children will not be killed. We told the co-chairs about it many
times. At least, Armenian troops must be withdrawn from the occupied
seven regions of Azerbaijan in the first phase”.

AZERBAIJANI FM: “WE WILL DISCUSS THE ISSUE OF DISCUSSION OF NAGORNO KARABAKH PROBLEM AT THE UN WITH THE 5 PERMANENT MEMBERS OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL”

Oct 26 2011

“Azerbaijan’s election to the non-permanent membership of the UN
Security Council is a victory of Azerbaijani people”, said Foreign
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov at the joint briefing with Georgian Foreign
Minister Grigol Vashadze, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, APA reports.

Minister said that this victory was an indicator of support by the
countries, which voted for Azerbaijan.

Asked the question “Will the election of Azerbaijan to the
non-permanent membership of the Security Council affect the holding of
negotiations in the organization on Karabakh problem”, the minister
answered as follows: “The issue must be supported by the permanent
members of the Council for submitting any initiative to the UN
discussion. Three of them are the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. We
haven’t discussed this issue with the permanent members, but will
do it”.

Mammadyarov said that Azerbaijan will chair the UN SC for two times.

It will be in May next year and September 2013: “We must be prepared
in order to be a chair of such prestigious organization”.

In his turn, Vashadze congratulated Azerbaijan on this victory:
“I am very glad to be in Baku in such historical moment. Azerbaijani
diplomacy carried out great work in order to win”.

TURKISH EARTHQUAKE DETECTED IN ARMENIA ALSO

The Messenger, Georgia
Oct 26 2011

The devastating earthquake which killed hundreds of people and
destroyed almost the whole town of Van was felt in the territory
of Armenia’s nuclear power station, reports Armenia’s emergency
situation service. No buildings were damaged in the area. Armenia’s
nuclear power station is 160 km away from the epicenter of the Turkish
earthquake. Some experts in the field think that the earthquake could
awaken the regional volcano Nemrut-dzhag which was last active in
1441. As is known there are many voices in Armenia and among its
neighboring countries demanding closure of Armenia’s nuclear power
station as it is located in a seismically active zone and creates a
threat for the region.
