Member Of ANC: Armenia’S President Will Be Like Its Parliament

MEMBER OF ANC: ARMENIA’S PRESIDENT WILL BE LIKE ITS PARLIAMENT

Unfortunately, the votes of the electorate in Armenia still fail to
play a decisive role, and the goal of the Armenian National Congress
(ANC) is to make each voter’s vote have a weight, ANC member Lyudmila
Sargsyan said at a press conference in Yerevan on Wednesday.

She thinks that the forthcoming elections differ from the previous
ones by the excessive activeness of the parties during the election
campaign, as each of them perfectly realizes that there will be a
serious fight. “The daily election campaign and communication with
the voters give us the right to arrive at the conclusion that the
voters have become better informed, better interested and that they
have started taking a more active part in the political life of the
country”, Sargsyan said.

In the meantime, the countrywide attempts to rig the results of the
forthcoming elections will continue, the registers still contain names
of the dead people and those who left the country, and the goal of the
ANC is to prevent these attempts, she said. Sargsyan added that the
parliamentary elections will mark the beginning of the presidential
elections, and Armenia’s president will be like Armenian parliament.

To note, the parliamentary elections in Armenia will be held on May
6 2012, and the presidential elections will be held in Feb 2013.

May 2 2012

After releasing a weird teaser video for his first single Figure It
Out last week, we now get a new clip of the same song as a slightly
longer version, but now with animated lyrics. The single has been
taken from his upcoming new solo album Harakiri, due out this July.

Harakiri will be Tankian’s third solo effort. After releasing the
lyric video for the song today, we can now get an opportunity to
check out the song in its entirety. Tankian has described the new
album as being more punk orientated, and you can quite clearly see
that in this first single.

It will contain 11 tracks mostly written in 2011, which he claims
was the busiest and most productive year of his life: touring SOAD;
performing with the Opera Orchestra in Yerevan; Armenia; performing
his first ever concert in Lebanon, with the Lebanese National Symphony
Orchestra; and writing four records, including a jazz record and an
electronic record he wrote with his friend Jimmy Urine of Mindless
Self Indulgence.

Assyria: Genocide Monument Unveiled In Armenia

ASSYRIA: GENOCIDE MONUMENT UNVEILED IN ARMENIA

UNPO

May 3 2012

An official unveiling of a monument dedicated to victims of the
Assyrian genocide has taken place on 25 April 2012 in Armenia, with
representatives from the Armenian government and Assyrian organizations
from abroad both in attendance.

Below is a press release from the Assyrian Universal Alliance:

Once again the Assyrian nation has proved that it will mass stronger
against all attempts to deny the Assyrian genocide committed by the
Ottoman Turkey during WWI, which claimed about 750,000 innocent lives,
and show to the world the heinous crimes committed against its people.

“Turkey is still living in denial of this fact” Mr. Arsan Mikhaylov
said.

On Wednesday 25th April 2012, the Assyrian people of Armenia gathered
en masse to celebrate the official unveiling of the Assyrian genocide
monument in a public land located at Crossroads of Moskovyan and
Nalbandyan in central Yerevan. A special prayer service was organised
by the Rev. Father Isaac Tamras from the Assyrian church of the East
at the beginning of the ceremony.

The formal proceedings began with the Armenian and the Assyrian
national Anthems, followed by a minute silence observed in memory of
victims of the Assyrian genocide. After welcoming the attendees by
the Master of ceremonies Mr. Razmik Khosroev, RA Meritorious Artist,
lecturer at Yerevan Theatre and Film, State Pedagogical University, he
then invited Mr. Arsan Mikhaylov, president of the Atour Association in
Armenia and the Secretary of Eastern Europe of the Assyrian Universal
Alliance to welcome the attendees.

“What prompted us to build this Assyrian genocide monument in
Armenia is our respect for our martyrs who gave their lives for the
preservation of our Assyrian cultural and ethnic identity, and also
to add our voice to those of our fellow Armenians in this country” Mr.
Arsan Mikhaylov said.

Mr. Mikhaylov continued that many Assyrian organisations from different
countries have contributed to the cost of the entire project. The site
is expected to become a pilgrimage site not only for the Assyrians
but for Armenians and Pontic Greeks who are also victims of the
same genocide.

Representatives from the Armenian government and Assyrian organizations
from abroad attended the unveiling together with a large number of
news agencies. Participating in the opening ceremony was Mr.

Galust Sahakyan, the leader of the Republican faction, who condemned
genocides by saying that “Even today the genocide continues against
cultural values.” He stressed that Armenia is home to the Assyrians
and “here the Assyrians are not guests.”

Attending this historic event from Australia Mr. Hermiz Shahen, the
Deputy Secretary General of the Assyrian Universal Alliance (AUA)
in his speech thanked members of the Statue Project Committee who
worked hard to bring this project to reality, particularly the artist
for designing this magnificent monument, and the many volunteers who
worked tirelessly to build it.

In his address Mr. Shahen said “this is a significant event in the life
of our nation and our people in Armenia and abroad; communities that
have been established as a direct result of the continuous assaults
on the Assyrian nation. This genocide monument speaks of what is
occurring today to indigenous Assyrians in Iraq and Syria, who are
facing systematic campaigns of murder, kidnapping, intimidation and
destruction, and calls for a just and moral intervention by all people
and nations who value humanity.”

In his final notes Mr. Shahen appealed to the Armenian government,
as well as to other countries, to condemn these heinous acts committed
against the Christian citizens of Anatolia, and urged all international
humanitarian institutions to pressure Turkey to acknowledge and
apologise for the atrocities its Ottoman leaders committed against
their Assyrian, Armenian and Pontic Greek citizens during World War I.

The next speaker Mr. Sabri Atman, Director – Assyrian Genocide
Research Center (Seyfo Center) expressed his deepest appreciation
to the Armenian community and authorities in the Republic of Armenia
and the City of Yerevan for making this day a reality.

Mr. Atman continued “the genocide committed against the Assyrian
people by the Ottoman Empire and other genocides, including the
1933 Semele Massacre in Northern Iraq are historical realities that
have affected the lives of every Assyrian family. Close to 100 years
after the Assyrian genocide and 80 years after the Semele Massacre,
Assyrians continue to fight for justice and recognition. The genocide
which exterminated hundreds of thousands of our people destroyed our
lands and forever changed the demographic of the area we called home
for thousands of years. As a representative of the Assyrian community
I simply ask for justice for my people also, no more and no less!”

The next speaker Mr. Armen Marukian, head of the department of Armenian
Genocide Questions in the Institute of History – National Academy
of Sciences, congratulated the Assyrians for honouring their martyrs
and talked about the importance of the Assyrian genocide monument.

Among the speakers was Mr. Albert Yakubov, the late Lina Yakubova’s
father and the Secretary of the Governor of Ararat Region, who spoke
about the well-being of the Assyrians in Armenia, and the support
provided by the Armenian government to them.

Dr. Anahit Khosroeva, Ph.D., a senior researcher in the Institute of
History – National Academy of Science from the Republic of Armenia,
spoke about the atrocities committed against the Assyrians and the
Armenians, and highlighted the importance of the Assyrian genocide
monument in Armenia.

The speeches were interrupted because of the sudden rain. Participants
commented that the heaven was sharing in their grief and sorrow.

Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (D-Palo Alto) issued the following statement
after Ambassador Tatoul Markarian, Armenian Ambassador to the United
States, announced that she has been awarded the Mkhitar Gosh Medal,
the Armenian government’s highest civilian honor. Armenian President
Serzh Sarkisian signed a Proclamation presenting Eshoo with the award
for her significant contributions to the strengthening and development
of Armenian-American relations, as well as international recognition
of the Armenian Genocide.

“I’m humbled by this honor and grateful to President Sarkisian and the
people of Armenia for it,” Rep. Eshoo said. “As an Armenian American,
this award is deeply meaningful to me, and it speaks to the unfinished
work of the United States to once and for all recognize the atrocities
committed against the Armenian people by the Ottoman Empire.”

BACKGROUND:

As an Armenian and Assyrian American, Rep. Eshoo lost family members
during the Armenian Genocide, and has worked since coming to Congress
to achieve official recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The Mkhitar
Gosh Medal is named for a 12th Century Armenian priest and scholar
responsible for codifying and promulgating the Armenian legal system,
which remained in effect throughout Greater Armenia for hundreds
of years.

Since the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, Rep. Eshoo has also led
Congressional efforts to provide targeted assistance to Iraq’s
dwindling population of religious minorities, including Assyrians,
Armenians, Syriacs, Jews, and Yezidis. She is the founder and co-chair
of the Religious Minorities in the Middle East Caucus.

Karabakh Issue Must Be Raised In Level Of Secretary Of State – Bryza

KARABAKH ISSUE MUST BE RAISED IN LEVEL OF SECRETARY OF STATE – BRYZA

news.am
May 03, 2012 | 20:40

The process of normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations
negatively affected the Karabakh peace process, said former U.S.
Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza.

He spoke on Wednesday during the discussion titled “America, Europe,
South Caucasus: Building up the partnerships in a changing world”
held in Jamestown Foundation.

He said one should not expect a peace agreement on Karabakh until U.S.

government will not be engaged in the process on sufficiently high
level. Bryza added that the risk of military conflict is growing.

According to him, during many years Washington was speaking about
three strategic interests in the South Caucasus – security, energy
and internal reforms and this interests should be pursued further,
Azerbaijani Turan agency reports.

Bryza said neither Armenian nor Azerbaijani Presidents feel trust
towards each other. “Trust must be created and here I see the role
of U.S.,” he said answering the question by Turan reporter.

The Karabakh issue must be raised in the level of Secretary of State
and sometimes even in the level of President, he concluded.

TURKISH, U.S. INSPECTORS TO MAKE OBSERVATION FLIGHT OVER RUSSIA

PanARMENIAN.Net
May 2, 2012 – 10:34 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – A group of Turkish and U.S. inspectors will make a
joint observation flight over Russia in line with the international
Open Skies Treaty, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday,
May 2.

According to RIA Novosti, the inspection will be carried out on May
2-5 on board a Casa CN-235 transport aircraft.

“The aircraft and equipment on its board have undergone the necessary
international certification procedure that Russian representatives
also took part in,” the ministry said in a statement.

The flight will follow a route coordinated with Russian specialists.

The Open Skies Treaty, signed in 1992 on an initiative of U.S.

President George H.W. Bush, established a regime of unarmed aerial
observation flights over the territories of its 34 member states
to promote openness and the transparency of military forces and
activities.

The treaty entered into force on January 1, 2002 and its regime covers
the national territories (land, islands, and internal and territorial
waters) of all the treaty signatory states. It is an important element
of the European security structure.

Georgia Is Too Dependent From Turkey To Recognize Armenian Genocide

GEORGIA IS TOO DEPENDENT FROM TURKEY TO RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE – EXPERT

news.am
May 02, 2012 | 00:54

It is unlikely that Georgia will recognize the Armenian Genocide,
political scientist and deputy director of the Caucasus Institute
Sergei Minasyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am adding that there are
certain reasons for that. “Even though Armenians are a powerful
national minority in Georgia, that state has close economic and
political partnership with Turkey as well as Azerbaijan. And also
there are many immigrants in Georgia from those countries. Today
Georgia is strongly dependent from those neighbor countries and is
unlikely to recognize the Armenian Genocide,” the expert said.

Commenting on the Georgian Parliament recognizing the genocide of the
Circassians last year, Minasyan stated that it was a political act
directed against Russia. Sergei Minasyan compared the Armenian issue
in Georgia with the processes taking place in Israel. According to
the expert, there is no political figure in Georgia questioning that
the Armenian Genocide happened, however, the political realities
are forced into a position different from the true assessment of
historical events.

L’opposition Intensifie Ses Attaques Sur Ter-Petrossian

L’OPPOSITION INTENSIFIE SES ATTAQUES SUR TER-PETROSSIAN
Stephane

armenews.com
mercredi 2 mai 2012

Le parti Heritage (Zharangutyun) a lance une attaque sur son rival le
Congrès National Armenien (HAK) l’accusant d’aider l’ancien president
