View from Moscow: Azerbaijan`s actions in Karabakh are part of a larger project

Armenia – Aug 4 2022

ArmInfo. All of Azerbaijan’s latest actions in Nagorno-Karabakh are part of a larger project. By escalating tension, Baku is trying to finally close the Armenian  issue with all its components, and get a land, direct connection with  Turkey and move on to Turan. Viktor Nadein- Raevsky, Researcher of  the Institute of World Economy and  International Relations (IMEMO)  Turkologist, said in an interview with ArmInfo.

“Against the background of such goals, Azerbaijan, of course, is  making every possible effort to achieve fundamental provisions for  itself in the direction of the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.  And against this background, the Yerevan’s “theses about the era of  peace”, seem, to put it mildly, not very realistic.  Moreover, we see  that today in the world such issues, unfortunately, are resolved  precisely by military means. Against this background, Armenia’s  position seems to be incomplete,” he said.

According to the expert, the very difficult situation in Ukraine, now  around Taiwan, affects other most problematic and complex regions of  the Middle East, Europe and, of course, the South Caucasus, giving  increased dynamics to geopolitical impulses in these regions. Against  such a “military” general background, Nadein-Raevsky considers  Moscow’s more or less successful management of Ankara’s policy  through almost constant negotiations an achievement.

According to him, against the background of the current search for  new positions in the transforming world in the conditions of the  global “military” stage of resolving issues, Baku, in conjunction  with Ankara, is working to promote programs towards the  implementation of the long-standing project of Great Turan. And this  process has already entered an active phase.

“And here it is important to recall that it was Armenia that has  always been an obstacle to the implementation of this project. And  today Turkey and Azerbaijan are logically trying to take advantage of  the truly exceptional opportunities that have opened up after the  44-day war to level this obstacle. Baku’s intransigent attitude in  relations with Armenia, among other things, comes from here and, of  course, is primarily based on Turkish support, which, in turn, is  connected with Azerbaijan by common, far-reaching plans, the  Turkologist summed up

YEREVAN, AUGUST 4, ARMENPRESS. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken raised the issue of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, among other issues, during a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on August 4, ARMENPRESS reports the spokesperson of the US Department of State Ned Price informed.

“The Secretary of State also raised the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, noting that the United States is ready to engage both in a bilateral format, with like-minded partners, and within our role as Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, to promote dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan and help achieve a long-term political settlement of the conflict”, reported the spokesperson of the Department of State.

Yesterday, on August 3, the spokesperson of the State Department said that the United States is deeply concerned about the intense fighting around Nagorno Karabakh.

The tension in Nagorno-Karabakh started on August 1, when, according to the Artsakh Defense Army, Azerbaijani units resorted to provocation in a number of parts of the northern and northwestern border zone of the Artsakh Republic starting at 09:00 in the morning, trying to cross the contact line. AW: Anna Astvatsaturian Turcotte shares success of Ser Artsakh from the homeland

Anna Astvatsaturian Turcotte and representatives of Ser Artsakh’s partnering organizations

Anna Astvatsaturian Turcotte provided updates and a summary of the activities of the Ser Artsakh, the latest project initiated by the Anna Astvatsaturian Foundation and its partnering organizations, at a recent press conference.

This was the first time Astvatsaturian Turcotte had seen her colleagues after months of remote cooperation.

Astvatsaturian Turcotte, the initiator of Ser Artsakh, mentioned that she had returned from Artsakh a few days earlier, where she was updated with the development of the project and visited cities and villages to understand their priorities and how the Anna Astvatsaturian Foundation can help in the future.

“Our mothers and all our compatriots living in Artsakh are indeed heroes. It was important for me to call this program Ser Artsakh, to remind the world that Artsakh exists, lives and will flourish,” stressed Astvarsaturian Turcotte. “In Artsakh, I also had meetings with high-ranking officials, discussed the ways of cooperation and the possibilities of new projects,” she said.

Representatives of Ser Artsakh’s partnering organizations opened the gift boxes and presented what was included in them: onesies, pajama sets, sleeping sacks, towels and blankets, health care essentials (diapers, wipes, baby shampoo, thermometer and pacifier), maternity hygiene necessities for the new mother, a custom-made soft baby book and a wooden toy made in Armenia.

All accessories included in the box are of Armenian production and are made in Armenia and Artsakh. Representatives from Lalunz, Play Artsakh, Tmblik and Theopharma Imports thanked the Anna Astvatsaturian Foundation for this initiative and noted their pride in becoming a part of Ser Artsakh.

“We worked on each garment for a long time and carefully selected every detail, from the fabric to the colors. We put a lot of love into all of this. Even while sewing, our employees were saying blessings for the newborn babies,” said Lusine Davtyan, the director of Lalunz LLC.

“What gives us reason to live are babies, and I really want many babies to be born in Armenia and Artsakh,” said Lilyan Galstyan, a representative of the Anna Astvatsaturian Foundation.

The soft baby book was also prepared especially for the Ser Artsakh and includes the lines:

“My home is the high mountains, the sun is warm and gentle,
The bear is kind, the deer is free and proud,
It’s warm in my house, it’s spring and love in my house.”

Ser Artsakh was launched on June 1, International Children’s Day, as a sign of the need and responsibility to protect children born after the 2020 Artsakh War, who are giving new life to their native land.

PRESS RELEASE: Team Artsakh wins the Assarian National Tournament

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On July 15th Girls of Armenia Leadership Sports Educational Foundation (GOALS) organized the final round of the Assarian National Tournament for girls aged 12 to 16.

Leading up to the final games over 80 teams of girls from across Armenia and Artsakh participated in regional competitions. Four teams each representing their regions, Lori (Stepanavan), Syunik (Goris), Shirak (Artik) and Artsakh (Stepanakert), made it to the final games hosted at the Avan Football Academy in Yerevan. Each and every single girl present at the tournament was there to win and to represent their team. After a fierce competition in the final game between Artsakh and Syunik, Artsakh came out victorious winning this year’s National Tournament.

‘I am really happy about this victory. I was sure we would win because we put countless hours into practice and we were determined. As a team, we were invested 100% in the learning process. GOALS came to Artsakh two years ago, and since then we have waited for this day and it finally came”, reflected Valentina Grigoryan, a player from Artsakh.

Gagik Aghabalyan, an Armenian Football Federation executive committee member, was present at the award ceremony. In his opinion, this initiative is one of the efforts in Armenia through which we develop girls’ football, “We talk about men in football every day, yet we seldom speak about our girls. Gradually, our attitudes and stereotypes must change. Great victories start from paths like this”.

To increase girls’ participation in sports, GOALS Educational Foundation created 8 football leagues in Armenia and Artsakh. Over 1000 students are engaged in 80 football teams: not only do girls develop football skills in these teams, but also, they develop skills and knowledge in healthy lifestyle and hygiene, leadership, and social-emotional competencies, such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and mutual respect. They break stereotypes and show agency against discrimination.

‘Throughout the past couple of years, we have seen how our programs and our girls have developed. There have been many obstacles along the way and the challenges still persist, such as a common stereotype about women’s participation in sports, however with over 1000 girls now leading a healthy lifestyle and learning essential skills along the way we must be doing something right. A team sport isn’t just about being an athlete, it’s also about learning transferable skills that are not only necessary to be successful in sports, but also life. After all, life is basically a team sport”, mentioned  GOALS CEO, Teny Avakian.

As stereotypical thinking, quality education issues, and the lack of financial opportunities hinder the development of young girls and women in Armenia, GOALS provides girls aged 6 to 16 with infrastructures, sports gear, coaches, training and other resources to develop and learn.

Using sports for social impact GOALS aims to help youth overcome challenges in the field and beyond.  The National Tournament, which has already become a tradition, this year is named after Dr. Gary and Linda Assarian for their generous support of the GOALS Educational Foundation.

Girls of Armenia Leadership Sports (GOALS) is a non-profit, non- governmental  organization operating in Armenia since 2016. It is the only sports organization in Armenia promoting gender equality through sports-  primarily in rural Armenia and Artsakh- and is dedicated to empowering girls and young women across Armenia by promoting health, life and leadership skills through their participation in an all-female soccer league. GOALS’ Theory of Change is rooted in the philosophy that sport can be used as a vehicle for transforming society and expanding the possibilities of its participants. The Theory of Change can be summarized into three core activities: (1) creating safe spaces for young women and children to participate in sport, (2) educating communities and challenging existing stereotypes through sport for social impact curriculum, and (3) fostering strong partnerships with local institutions to lay a sustainable framework for our activities. GOALS provides the infrastructure, coaches, equipment and resources to create girls’ soccer leagues in rural communities across Armenia and Artsakh. Currently over 1000 girls from 80 communities participate in the organization’s activities.

European Fund for Southeast Europe partners with Armenian bank to help small businesses

The European Fund for Southeast Europe (EFSE) has partnered with Inecobank in Armenia by providing US$10 million in financing to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operating in critical sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and transportation, The financing is expected to enable around 1,200 loans to MSMEs and to support more than 4,000 jobs.

The investment is an essential part of EFSE’s overall programme to support MSMEs affected by the economic, social, and security challenges triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the related sanctions.

Rising inflation and surging energy prices are raising MSMEs operational costs and depleting their liquidity buffers. The investment aims to give MSMEs in vital sectors continued access to finance to secure the needed inputs, services, inventories, and reserves, and to help them mitigate supply-chain disruptions.

Working with the EU4Business initiative, EFSE aims to foster economic development and prosperity in Southeast Europe and the Eastern Neighbourhood Region by investing in the success of micro and small enterprises as well as improved living conditions for private households.

Armenia ruling force lawmaker: Stopping process of normalizing relations with Turkey is counterproductive

NEWS.am
Armenia –

Armenia does not intend to abandon negotiations with Turkey and Azerbaijan. Sargis Khandanyan, a member of the Armenian delegation to the OSCE PA and an MP from the ruling majority “Civil Contract” Faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, told this to reporters in the NA on Tuesday.

Reporters asked whether Armenia’s ruling Civil Pact Party was considering the possibility of stopping the negotiation process with Ankara if the latter’s destructive policies and approaches continue.

In response, Khandanyan recalled that during last year’s snap parliamentary elections in Armenia, the Civil Contract Party had declared the peace agenda in the South Caucasus.

“The peace agenda assumes that Armenia needs to normalize its relations with [all] neighbors. Therefore, we will considerably expand our efforts to achieve that goal. This will ultimately enable peace to be established in the region, and the era of peace will finally be able to be fully brought to fruition.

But stopping the process of normalization of relations at a certain moment is counterproductive, especially from the point of view of our strategy and future vision. So, no. We have no such desire,” Khandanyan emphasized, adding that they will continue cooperation with all associates.
