Azerbaijani press: Murderers of kids and women are among Armenia’s leadership, says MP
Baku, Azerbaijan, March 2
By Samir Ali – Trend:
Murderers of children, women, elderly people are among Armenia’s current leadership headed by Serzh Sargsyan, Elman Mammadov, an MP from Azerbaijan’s Khojaly town, told Trend March 2.
The MP said the confession by one of the leaders of the Armenian lobby on the Khojaly genocide during hearings on the 30th anniversary of the Sumgait events at the California State Senate, organized by the Armenian lobby in the US, was quite expected.
He said both officials and ordinary people in Armenia state that the Armenian government is leading the people into an abyss.
“There are also impartial people among them, and that is not bad,” the MP said. “In fact, the Armenians admitted on Feb. 27, 1992 that they were involved in the tragedy.”
At that time, the Armenian criminal Zori Balayan confessed that he and his friend Khachatur tortured a little Turkic child in Khojaly by nailing him to a wall, said Mammadov.
“Another Armenian journalist from Lebanon confessed that the Khojaly genocide was committed by the Armenians,” Mammadov said. “Today, one of the leaders of the Armenian lobby confirms that the Armenian government, the Armenian Armed Forces committed the Khojaly genocide and the current Armenian leaders and their entourage took part in the genocide.”
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
On Feb. 25-26, 1992, the Armenian armed forces, together with the 366th infantry regiment of Soviet troops, stationed in Khankendi, committed an act of genocide against the population of the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly. As many as 613 people, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old people were killed in the massacre. Eight families were totally exterminated, 130 children lost one parent and 25 children lost both. Some 1,275 innocent residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 people still remains unknown.
The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.

Turkish Press: EU sees no military solution to Karabakh conflict
Anadolu Agency (AA), Turkey February 9, 2018 Friday EU sees no military solution to Karabakh conflict EU foreign policy chief says unresolved conflict between Azerbaijan, Armenia remains 'very serious' By Diyar Guldogan ANKARA The Karabakh dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia remains a "very serious" challenge, EU's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Friday. "The status quo, we believe, is unsustainable and the conflict does not have a military solution," Mogherini said at a news conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Memmedyarov, who attended 15th Cooperation Council between the EU and Azerbaijan in Brussels, according to a EU statement. Mogherini said the EU "fully" supports the mediation efforts and proposals of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's (OSCE) Minsk group co-chairs and confidence-building measures. The Minsk group was formed to find a peaceful solution to the conflict between the two countries. Memmedyarov said the unresolved conflict with Armenia was one of the "biggest" challenge, which Azerbaijan faces. "We recognize that the conflict must be solved. First of all, based on the, of course, territorial integrity of my country..," he said. Occupied Karabakh is recognized as Azerbaijani territory by the international community but was taken over by Armenian secessionists as the Soviet Union broke up in the late 1980s. Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan in 1991 with Armenian military support, while a peace process has yet to be implemented. Azerbaijan 'important' partner for EU Mogherini said Azerbaijan was an "important" partner for the EU, which supports the country's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. She said "close" contacts were illustrated by the fact that the EU was Azerbaijan's largest economic partner, representing nearly half of the trade of the country -- 48.6 percent --, and the EU was also the largest foreign direct investor in Azerbaijan. "The Southern Gas Corridor is just one example of our strategic relationship in the field of energy that serves the interest of both Azerbaijan and the EU," she added. The Southern Gas Corridor -- which plans to carry Azeri gas all the way to Italy -- is considered critical for Europe's future energy needs and for lowering dependence on Russian gas. The corridor includes three major pipeline projects: the expansion of the South Caucasus Pipeline through Azerbaijan and Georgia, the construction of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) across Turkey and the construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) through Greece, Albania and into Italy. Memmedyarov expects the inauguration of TANAP will be done in 2017.
Karabakh crisis settlement implies package option – Armenian FM
Interfax - Russia & CIS General Newswire Monday 6:25 PM MSK Karabakh crisis settlement implies package option - Armenian FM YEREVAN. Jan 29 The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group for Karabakh settlement repeatedly said that the problem should be resolved on the basis of principles and elements suggested by them, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said. "These principles and elements are presented as the single thing, as the single package. This is why the talks about the ways to settle the conflict, either gradually or in a package, are unserious. The attempts to single out a certain principle will make the settlement of the issue impossible," Nalbandian said at a press conference on Monday. This is a package proposal put forth by the intermediaries and repeatedly stated by the presidents of the co-chairing countries, that is, Russia, the United States and France, he said. "But a package solution definitely implies gradually putting this solution into practice," the Armenian foreign minister said.

Sports: Henrikh Mkhitaryan reportedly under Inter Milan’s radar
Inter Milan are carefully following Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s situation at Manchester United, according to Sky in Italy.
United boss Jose Mourinho confirmed in November that the Armenia international attacking midfielder had been dropped because he was unhappy with the player’s performances.
He has not started a Premier League game for United since the defeat at Chelsea on November 5 but played the entire second half in the 2-2 draw with Burnley last time out.
Sky in Italy believe Mkhitaryan is one of a number of players Inter are looking at including Gerard Deulofeu at Barcelona and Javier Pastore at Paris Saint Germain.
Deulofeu, who has not played for the Spanish club since November and not started a La Liga game since October, is not considered part of Barca boss Ernesto Valverde’s plans and is available for loan in January.
Inter director Piero Ausilio recenty said of Pastore. “We have to understand what Paris Saint-Germain want to do.
“I don’t think anyone can argue with his quality. We have to understand what PSG want to do. He is an important player, we are pleased that he sees Inter as a possibility, but it’s premature to talk about anything else.”
