Orinats Yerkir To Support Opposition Candidate In Potential Run Off

ORINATS YERKIR TO SUPPORT OPPOSITION CANDIDATE IN POTENTIAL RUN OFF

ARMENPRESS
Jan 7, 2008

YEREVAN, JANUARY 7, ARMENPRESS: Heghine Bisharian, an MP and a deputy
chairperson of the Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law) opposition party,
argued today that none of nine presidential candidates would win
the February 19 presidential election outright and there would be a
run off.

Mrs. Bisharian, who heads the election campaign of the party leader,
a former parliament speaker, Arthur Baghdasarian, said at today’s news
conference that Baghdasarian would win as many votes as to have the
right to compete for the highest job in the second round of the ballot.

She said if Arthur Baghdasarian fails to do so, which she said was
‘very little probable,’ the Orinats Yerkir party would support the
opposition candidate in the run off.

"We shall be the first to shake the hand of the president who will
win in a clean and fair competition," she said.

She said the party has formed campaign offices across the country.

ANKARA: Turkish President Heads For US To Dicuss PKK And Cyprus

TURKISH PRESIDENT HEADS FOR US TO DICUSS PKK AND CYPRUS

The New Anatolian
Jan 7 2008
Turkey

President Abdullah Gul is off to the United States for a meeting with
leading American officials for continued active U.S. support in the
fight against the PKK and to prod United Nations Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moo to maker an extra effort to revive the Cyu[prus peace
provcess in 2008.

With the United States bowing to Turkey’s insistence on punitive action
against Kurdish rebels in Iraq, the two nations can look forward to
a more harmonious encounter at summit talks here this week.

President George W. Bush is set to welcome Gul to the White House on
Tuesday morning, shortly before Bush leaves for the Middle East on
his first visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Turkey is been pleased with active American support against the PKK.

As President Bush promised Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in
October the U.S. has provided Turkey with valuable intelligence
about PKK hideouts and movements in northern Iraq and the fact that
the U.S. opened Iraqi airspace to Turkish jet fighters t raid the
PKK targets.

President Bush has called the PKK a joint enemy of the U.S. and Turkey.

Gull will reportedly thank Bush for the support and urge him to
continue this cooperation ion view of continued PKK terrorist attacks
in Turkey like the bomb blast that killed five people and injured 68
in Diyarbakir on Thursday.

The leaders are expected to discuss Turkey’s long-running bid to join
the European Union, an aspiration warmly backed by the United States
in the face of resistance from some EU powerbrokers such as France.

And with Bush seeking to revitalize Middle East peace talks, Turkey’s
influence with Israel and Arab states will also figure in Gul’s
Washington talks, as will Iran’s nuclear ambitions, according to
the State Department. Tyurkey ahs been mediating between Syria and
Israel to start direct talks. Turkey is also mediating to solve the
presidential elections impasse in Lebanon.

It will be Gul’s debut trip to Washington since he took over as
Turkey’s president in August.

Since then, Turkish opinion has been inflamed by deadly cross-border
attacks from northern Iraq by the PKK and by a push in the US Congress
to accuse the old Ottoman Empire of "genocide."

With the latest active support of the U.S. against the PKK Turkish
anger has been eased.

Bush promised Erdogan real time US intelligence on PKK movements across
the mountainous border between Turkey and Iraq, and the United States
approved to Turkish air raids on the militant hideouts.

In return, Turkish military promised not to stay on Iraqi soil and
to avoid actions that could destabilize Iraq more broadly.

Late last month, Gul declared that the US support "befits our alliance"
and added: "This is how it should be. We could have come to this
point earlier."

Turkish leaders are also happy with the waning of the campaign in
the US House of Representatives to label the World War I killing of
ethnic Armenians by Ottoman troops as "genocide."

After the genocide bill was passed by the chamber’s foreign affairs
committee in October, Turkey threatened to sever US access to an
airbase that is a key staging post for supplies bound for Iraq and
Afghanistan.

But the resolution’s Democratic authors then agreed to shelve a vote
in the full House, bowing to intense pressure not just from Turkey
but also from the Bush administration.

Besides Bush Gul will be meeting U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney,
Defense Secretary Roberty Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice.

After talks in Washington Gul will move to NewYirk where he is expeced
to concentrate on the stalled Cyprus peace process.

The ongoing division of Cyprus between the Greek Cypriot government
in the south and the Turkish Cypriot administration in the north
threatens to stall Turkey’s entry into the European Union.

Gul spoke in Ankara Thursday at a joint news conference with Turkish
Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat.

The European trade bloc has frozen membership negotiations with Turkey
in eight policy areas, because of Ankara’s refusal to open its ports
and airports to Greek Cypriot traffic.

For his part, Greek Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos has blocked
U.N. efforts to ease trade restrictions against the Turkish Cypriots,
in a push to block any de facto recognition of the Turkish enclave.

Azeri political expert downbeat about ties with Russia

An independent Azerbaijani political analyst has said that
Azerbaijani-Russian ties cannot be described normal.

Commenting on the suspension of Russian RTR Planeta TV broadcasts in
Azerbaijan in an interview with Russian Kavkazskiy Uzel website
published on 4 January, Arif Yunus said that the ties "can be
described as cooperation based on suspicion and distrust".

The analyst added that "on the one hand, our authorities state that
strategic ties were established between Russia and Azerbaijan, on the
other hand, they are not supported by specific activities".

Yunus ruled out aggravation of ties as "Russia does not need to spoil
ties with Azerbaijan" in view of restrained relations with Ukraine,
Georgia and Estonia.

The political analyst predicted a sharp decrease in the number of
Russian-language schools and exodus of Russian population from the
country in the future.

"But this will not turn into a problem which is now observed between
the Baltic states and Russia. All will be probably resolved through
declarative statements about friendship and cooperation, but
actually, Moscow will strengthen its influence and support for
Armenia to punish Azerbaijan," Yunus added.

The broadcasts of the Russian TV channel RTR Planeta were halted in
Azerbaijan early in the morning on 1 January 2008 under a decision by
the National TV and Radio Council. The Russian channel was reportedly
taken off the air as there was no agreement on its transmission in
Azerbaijan in 2008.

The transmission of the ORT channel was halted on 10 July 2007 and
RTR Planeta was the only Russian channel that officially broadcast in
Azerbaijan.

Today’s Zaman, Turkey

What happened in Turkey and what did not in 2007? (2)

BULENT KENES

It was the first day of 2002. A friend of mine gave me a call at an
early morning hour, wished me a happy new year and then asked me how
I was doing. After 2001, marked by uncertainty and dominated by
crises, bankruptcies and layoffs, I remember saying to my friend in
the first hours of the new year precisely this: `Well, what else
could I be doing? Just trying to get through 2002 as quickly as I
can.’
Just like in the first days of 2002, 2007 signaled from the very
first day that it would be a year we’d have to get through. Strangely
enough, there was neither a political crisis nor an economic one as
we left 2006 behind for 2007; there was also no mass bankruptcies nor
chaotic events. Just the opposite, the economy was booming and income
per capita was increasing by the day. Turkey was flourishing. And
Turkish democracy, although at a slow pace, was making progress
thanks to serious civil reforms enacted on the way to the European
Union. The unrest did not stem from any of these; indeed, it came
from the fact that the presidential election would be held in 2007,
and this election was enough to stir up political fears in a country
like Turkey.

And all the fears were soon proven to have not been unfounded, and
2007 turned out to be a year that was very hard on Turkey. However, I
can say with peace of mind in this last day of the year that 2007 has
been a critical turning point, for coming up with solutions to all
our acute problems caused by our defective democracy and for our
democratization adventure. I’m positive that history will record this
determination as an accurate one. Even though we may have faced a
wide range of anxieties, we will remember 2007 as a passageway to a
more mature Turkish democracy, to a more civil and participative
understanding in the administration and as a door opening to a
serious opportunity to put an end to the trouble of terrorism.

In my previous column, I recalled what did not happen in 2007 and
promised to write about what has happened this year. I should first
of all note that 2007 has been a difficult year for the journalism
profession. It has been a year during which we — among our
journalist friends — frequently joked that `we consume so much
material in one day; material that countries like Norway and Sweden
couldn’t find in a year.’ As a matter of fact, we experienced days in
2007 such that we were forced into changing our headline topic hour
by hour. If we are to remember those politically hot days, we can
note the following:

This may be a little personal, but I became a father twice in 2007,
in two very important ways. After a magnificent celebration, Today’s
Zaman began its publishing life on Jan. 16 under my direction.
Although it was only its first year, it played a historic role in
causing the critical developments of 2007 to be correctly perceived
abroad and among foreigners in Turkey. And in this long year, I
tasted the sweet feeling of becoming a father for the second time
with the birth of my daughter Elif Leyla.

Of course, not all the events that occurred were as happy as these
two. The first tragic incident of 2007, which was expected to be
marked by provocations and high tension because of the presidential
elections to be held, was the killing of Turkish journalist of
Armenian descent Hrant Dink. If there is a single positive aspect to
this, it must be that it aroused a nationwide mass reaction against
the assassination. The positive atmosphere that developed around
civil society organizations and citizens claiming Dink, regardless of
his ethnic background, was as important as the negative atmosphere
created by the state’s reluctance to delve into the dark structure
behind his murder.

The first half of 2007 saw many opposition rallies with high
participation. Acting on the paranoid fallacy that the republic and
secularism were under imminent threat, tens of thousands took to the
squares with a single target in mind — to prevent anyone nominated
by the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) from residing in the
Çankaya presidential palace for seven years. The main slogan they
kept chanting during these rallies, where they claimed that the
government did not represent the bigger portion of the society, was
`Tayyip look at us and count how many we are!’ Organized by retired
generals remembered for their unrealized coup plans during their
terms of service, these rallies caused the tension in the country to
rise, thereby providing an important ground for those endeavoring to
stop the presidential election through anti-democratic methods.

Amid this political pandemonium, they fabricated an absolutely
nonsensical formula that did not exist in established practice —
that the quorum to hold a parliamentary session was 367. The
Constitutional Court approved of this cock-and-bull formula, under
heavy pressure from the propaganda of the elitist clique and the
military’s midnight e-memo. Therefore, the government decided to head
for early elections. What reversed that dark process, which gave
serious signals that Turkey was about to go off the rails of
democracy, was the ballot box, the temple of democracy.

The results of the July 22 elections shattered all the dark plots to
pieces in an atmosphere marked by bellows of rage in relation to the
fallacy that the republic and secularism were under threat, by
efforts to give a new shape to politics with interventions made from
outside and by escalating terrorist attacks, which put great pressure
on Turkey to carry out a cross-border military operation. Above all,
the whole of Turkey and the world found the answers to the slogans
chanted at the rallies called `republican’ and clearly saw that this
rally-loving disgruntled group was only a marginal segment of
society.

All the plans belonging to the main opposition party fell through.
While the Republican People’s Party (CHP) lost a good deal of the
trust placed in it due to its strategy of tension and emerged from
the elections suffering great political devastation, the Nationalist
Movement Party (MHP) and the Democratic Society Party (DTP), which
obtained the chance to enter Parliament after the passage of some
years, acted differently from the CHP. The first candidate in the
process, Abdullah Gül, was elected to the country’s highest post, for
the sake of which so many crises were sparked. Parallel to this
election, a process of drafting a civil constitution started. An
intensive political and diplomatic effort was exerted for the
cross-border operation. Although some tried to abuse the cross-border
operation plans in order to change the political balances in the
country prior to the general elections, it was launched in December
with accurate planning, correct timing and a proper method.

Turkey became the scene of many other historic developments — so
many that we cannot list all of them here — as well as many
provocations and dark events. However, the obvious winner of 2007 is
democracy. Now, I can easily remark that I don’t view 2008 as a year
we have to get through, and I hope that it will be year to be enjoyed
by everybody to the fullest. Happy New Year.

MUSIC REVIEWS: New pop, country/roots, jazz and classical releases
The Philadelphia Inquirer

WYCLEF JEAN "Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs Of An Immigrant" (Columbia, 3 stars)
Former Fugee Wyclef Jean is either a visionary internationalist who sees a
world without musical borders or a shamelessly starstruck show-off whose albums
exist primarily to demonstrate just how big his Rolodex is. Or more likely,
both. How else to explain "Carnival II," a sequel to a 1997 album of the same
name? The staggering guest list includes Shakira, Norah Jones, Paul Simon,
Mary J. Blige, Paul Simon, Serj Tankian (of brainy metal band System of A
Down) as well as rappers Lil’ Wayne, T.I. and Will.I.Am, and, of course, noted
percussionist Louis Farrakhan. (I kid you not.) Pan-cultural anthems like "Slow
Down" and the Indian film music extravaganza "Hollywood Meets Bollywood
(Immigration)," which makes excellent use of sonorous rhymer Chamillionaire,
come so effortlessly to Jean that it’s tempting to dismiss them as facile and
superficial. But the multiculti lounge lizard deserves props for maintaining an
ebullient party vibe throughout a jam-packed effort that attempts to make
sense of the immigrant experience, even if it does get carried away trying to
include what one song refers to as a "Million Voices."

New Armenian President to be invited to TRACECA summit in Baku
27.12.2007 16:06 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Newly elected Armenian President will be invited to
Baku for participation in TRACECA jubilee summit, said Akif
Mustafayev, the secretary of the TRACECA committee.

The Azerbaijani President will personally send invitations to heads of
state, he said.

`Azerbaijan undertakes to hold the event in compliance with all
accepted rules. In 1998, when Azerbaijan hosted a similar summit,
Armenian Prime Minister arrived instead of the President. Presently,
the atmosphere is rather calm. Presidents and Foreign Ministers hold
meetings in various cities. We do not see any problems and will do
everything to hold the event in a proper way,’ Mustafayev said.

Visits of Armenian officials to Azerbaijan grew more frequent
recently. Experts view the fact as a serious move toward
reconciliation. However, political scientists apprehend negative
consequences, Yeni Musavat newspaper reports.

Turkey vs. France: a Clash – Part of the Freemasonic Plan for Europe

Dr. Muhammad Shamsaddin Megalommatis
December 27, 2007

It was about time for someone to cross Rubicon in… Turkey; for
several years, the country faced an undeclared multi-frontal war
without anybody denouncing – utterly and categorically -, protesting
and reacting against Turkey’s real, empathetic, and hysterical enemy:
France.

Both, the military establishment and the political authorities (in
the government and the opposition), have undeservedly stuck to a
wooden language, as well as to diplomatic and indirect accusations,
as if the undeclared war against Turkey would end because of their
disregard of it!

Turkish Laxity toward France to end

Yet, it is well documented throughout History that longer you ignore
an adversary pursuing an undeclared war, longer he will stick to his
destructive policies. It is basics in Diplomatic History that more
you disregard your opponents’ efforts, more convinced they will be
about the effectiveness of their inimical endeavors.

Turkish laxity can be understood for the military establishment, as
by overtly reacting, they would trigger unreasonable and ridiculous,
though destructive, comments about Turkish army’s interference in the
politics.

Turkish governmental negligence is due to the fact that the former
Foreign Minister and incumbent President is a Freemason, initiated in
a fake lodge – dependency of the Apostate Anglo-French Freemasonic
Lodge – in London, has got the English `friendly’, I am sorry
‘brotherly’, ‘advice’ not to attack the Anti-Turkish French
establishment `because British diplomacy is in favour of Turkey’s
adhesion to EU’ (and they would manage to calm the French down in the
long run).

What cannot be excused is the carelessness and the inaptitude of the
Turkish political parties of the opposition that do not understand
how useful a Turkish straight attack against France and its political
establishment would be for Turkey at the national level, and for them
at the political level.

European Foreign Ministers’ Duplicity

However, it is only a wonderful surprise to see TÜSIAD, the Turkish
Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association, lead Turkey to a badly
needed confrontation that should become Turkey’s primary national
target. It was due to the formulation endorsed – under strong French
pressure – by the EU foreign ministers in a statement of EU
enlargement.

As Zaman reported, `the role played by France in the making of the
statement sparked harsh reaction from leading representatives of the
Turkish business’
( ar.do?load=detay&link=129222).

As a matter of fact, on Monday, December 10, a statement issued by
the EU foreign ministers omitted the words "accession" or
"membership" in connection with Turkey. This, said at a time
negotiations advance between Ankara and Brussels, bears witness to
European duplicity, hypocrisy and conspiracy against Turkey. The term
used for the cases of Turkey and Croatia was "intergovernmental
conferences", which is an aberration and comedy. As it became known,
it was France, and not the ridiculous nationalist `president’ of
South Cyprus, that rejected any mention to "accession conferences",
as an additional proof of the French Anti-Turkish empathy.

Turkish Businessmen react: `A democracy against another democracy’

On Tuesday, December 13, the Turkish Industrialists’ and
Businessmen’s Association (TÜSIAD) issued a statement in which, among
other points, the following was stressed: "The illegal resistance
shown by a democracy against another democracy — which could be
considered as pathological in this direction — is in contradiction
with idealism, which is a basis for European integration and sets a
block in front of development of natural relations between the two
countries". This was an ostensible reference to the French efforts
involved in the generation of the EU statement.

TÜSIAD statement underscored the Turkish Private Sector’s assessment
that it was not possible to understand efforts by France, which is
expected to take the rotating EU presidency in the second half of
2008, and then block off roads to EU membership for Turkey.

The governmental reaction was more diplomatic; in a statement
released by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Levent Bilman hours after
the EU statement’s release, France was not named, even indirectly,
and the blame was put on "the stance of one member country [which]
cannot be met with understanding". Levent Bilman commented that "even
though the declaration confirms Turkey’s full membership objective
… the fact that this was referred to in an indirect way has led to
serious displeasure", adding that Turkey welcomes efforts of support
deployed by "other member countries that form the majority within the
EU".

Haluk Kabaalioðlu, Director of the Economic Development Foundation
(IKV), an NGO representing the Turkish private sector’s interests
regarding the EU, commenting on the statement, said that "the
omitting of the word accession is far from seriousness and is an
approach in violation of the principle of pacta sunt servanda, which
is one of the basic values of the EU".

Anglo-French Freemasonic Target: Turkey aligned with Russia against
Europe

As it is known, France advocates a special partnership with Turkey
instead of full EU membership; what is not known is why the French
pursue this policy. The explanation is simple.

Turkey will never accept any sort of special partnership because this
would simply consist in explicitly racist and unfair treatment, and
at the same time it would be a national humiliation, following many
decades of rapprochement and goals supposedly set for a final
adhesion. In view of Turkey’s European identity and Turkey’s
outperformance of several Balkan member countries (Bulgaria and
Romania), a possible rejection of Turkey’s adhesion can be justified
only through divergence at the level of legislation and the political
life. With Turkey readjusting its economy and legislation, any
European pretext will simply be a point of Anti-Turkish duplicity and
mendacity.

With Turkey rejecting special partnership, the ridiculous
pseudo-concept of a fake Mediterranean Union or any other type of
association, and with the expected and methodically triggered
deterioration of the Euro-Russian relationship, the way will be
cleared for a great Turco-Russian alliance against Europe and Israel.

The Apostate Freemasonic Lodge that totally controls and guides the
English and French establishments wants to mount precisely this sort
of confrontation for inner developments in Europe.

First, they have to confront – in Europe and the world – the very
opposite plans of Vatican that pursues completely different goals in
Europe and the world, particularly the Middle East and Jerusalem.

Second, the present situation in Europe does not correspond to an
ideal situation for the Apostate Freemasonic Lodge that cannot set
its policies and tactics within the current context.

A major Euro-Oriental confrontation, with Russia and Turkey aligned
(which means Islamic – Christian Orthodox alliance) and in control of
Europe’s Muslims, would generate precisely the targeted, final Europe
– Roman Empire reinstated. It will not come easily, and it will be
the byproduct of an extraordinary ordeal, clash, and confrontations
in Europe.

However, the Anglo-French Freemasonic elites believe that they will
finally manage to survive and exterminate a revolutionary Muslim
ruler who would call for Europe’s ultimate Islamization, and would be
used against their traditional opponent, Vatican in order to
exterminate Roman Papacy.

The European leader, who would call for European resistance,
basically on non Christian but rather Ancient Greek and Roman terms,
would be helped tremendously by the Apostate Freemasonic Lodge in
order to impose a paranoiac and anti-democratic regime whereby the
homosexual practices of Ancient Athens would be generalized, and life
would be totally controlled in an inhuman way.

What Turkey’s reaction should be?

It is high time for Turkey’s establishment, financial, military,
academic, intellectual and political, to understand that the only way
to prevent a war is … a war; another war.

In the light of such bias, Turkey must understand that the hysteria
of some Europeans to a large scale Turkish invasion of Iraq, the
paranoia of the parliamentary votes for the fallacious story of the
Armenian Genocide, the creation of the `Kurdish’ problem, Europe’s
anti-Albanian and anti-Islamic stance in Kosova, Europe’s unfair
stance as regards the various Turkish minorities in Romania, Moldova,
Serbia, Greece and Bulgaria, and above all the perfidious English
opposition to a formal independence of the Turkish Republic of
Northern Cyprus, are all parts of the same conspiracy.

To stop France’s anti-Turkish stance, Turkey must realize that France
will cease its incessant hostility, only if gravely attacked and
severely wounded on its own territory.

If France is involved in Kurdistan, Turkey must fuel mayhem in
Corsica to lead Corsicans to Final Secession from France and
Independence.

If France is involved in the Armenian Genocide myth fabrication and
propagation, Turkey must provoke a mobilization of France’s Basks and
Catalans against the racist French state.

If France rejects Turkey’s adhesion to the EU, Turkey must
reinvigorate Breton nationalism and Gaelic anti-Frankism to plunge
France in a civil war without end.

If France pursues in the Middle East and Northern Africa policies
that are in conflict with Turkey’s interests, Turkey must stimulate a
rebellion in `French’ Polynesia – in close alliance with Australia
and New Zealand.

If France opposes Turkish interests in the Balkans, French embassies,
consulates, institutes and companies must become targets for local
people, in Algeria, in Sudan, in Pakistan, in Yemen, in Uzbekistan,
and elsewhere; they must be attacked and closed down.

If France insists on its colonial policy, without consenting to
solemnly reject it, apologize, and pay due recompense, Turkey must
instigate the oppressed Occitans of France to uprising.

The aforementioned is just an indicative note; in a forthcoming
article, we will expand on the measures Turkey has to take against
France – leaving always religion out of politics.

Any use of Islam in a confrontation with the Anglo-French regimes is
pre-calculated and premeditated by these establishments, and can work
to their profit only. Adding to the already advanced radicalism, any
use of Islam in a confrontation with the West would push developments
to the direction the Anglo-French Freemasonic elites have
prescheduled and definitely and passionately want. It is essential
for Turkey, while keeping good relations and cooperating with Russia,
to avoid a Euro-Oriental confrontation, which is a planned project.

The damage of France and England must be inner, internal, and the
crimes perpetrated by the ignominious Apostate Freemasonic
establishment against the oppressed nations of the Irish, the Scots,
the Welch, the Bretons, the Occitans, the Corsicans, the Basks, the
Catalans, and the Alsatians must come to surface and be met with
Justice. Without giving the Anglo-French establishment the
opportunity to consider the strife as external, and turn it to a
Euro-Islamic or Euro-Oriental war.
