We consider it unacceptable that the Armenian delegation participates
at the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization’s meeting in
Baku", Karabakh Liberation Organization (KLO) said in its statement
on Tuesday, APA reports.

KLO called on the Government of Azerbaijan not to allow the Armenian
delegation to realize their intention. The organization said it
didn’t agree with traditional arguments like international character
of the event, the necessity of observing the international law norms
and others.

KLO emphasized the necessity of prevention of Armenian delegation to
visit Baku.

KLO also protests the participation of Turkish foreign minister as
well. "We declared him persona non grata in Azerbaijan. He is one
of the authors of shameful project, which is a serious blow on the
interests of Azerbaijan and Turkey, and sowed seeds of hostility. We
don’t want the Turkish foreign minister to become target of our
protests together with the Armenian representative. Therefore we call
on the Turkish government not to send him to Baku."

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ British doctors protested against IOC’s decision
to include women’s box in Olympic program. They find popularization
of that form of sport harmful to women and not only to them.

British Medical Association (BMA) does not approve International
Olympic Committee’s decision to include women’s box in 2012 Olympic
Games program.

"The BMA is disappointed by the decision of the International Olympic
Committee’s executive board to introduce women’s boxing to the 2012
Olympics as it is likely to encourage more people to take up this
dangerous sport," Reuters reports, quoting organization’s release.

"Irrespective of their gender, during the course of a fight, boxers
can suffer acute brain haemorrhage and serious damage to their eyes,
ears and nose," doctors warn.

By the decision of International Olympic Committee, women will compete
at three weights in London – flyweight (48 – 51kg), lightweight (56 –
60kg) and middleweight (69 – 75kg) – with 12 boxers taking part at
each weight.

Under IOC regulations, the overall number of boxers remains unchanged –
286, with 250 being men and 36 – women.

IOC President Jacques Rogge "rejoices" about IOC’s decision as he
considers that "women’s boxing has progressed a tremendous amount in
the last five years, and it was time that it be included in the games."

U.S. Not Seeking Karabakh Independence – Russian Expert

U.S. NOT SEEKING KARABAKH INDEPENDENCE – RUSSIAN EXPERT

RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, August 14 (RIA Novosti) – A Russian analyst dismissed on
Friday as "exaggerated" speculation that Washington would support
independence for a disputed Azerbaijani region after appointing a
senior administration official skilled at conflict settlement.

Nagorny Karabakh, a region in Azerbaijan with a largely Armenian
population, has been a source of conflict between the former Soviet
republics since the late 1980s. The province has its own government
and is de facto independent.

"Some took it as a signal that the United States is likely to support
the independence of Nagorny Karabakh – I think this is an exaggerated
expectation," said Mikhail Alexandrov, chief expert on the Caucasus
at the Institute for CIS Studies, commenting on the replacement of
Matthew Bryza, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and
Eurasian Affairs.

Bryza, who also co-chairs the OSCE Minsk Group, announced in Tbilisi
on Monday that U.S. diplomat Tina S. Kaidanow would replace him at
the post.

Kaidanow worked for the U.S. diplomatic mission in Kosovo for two
years before being appointed as the U.S. ambassador in Kosovo.

Alexandrov said it was a U.S. goal to have both Armenia and Azerbaijan
in NATO, which will mean finding a resolution to Nagorny Karabakh
first.

"They will impose a staged settlement plan which will include returning
the seven occupied territories, without determining the status, of
Nagorny Karabakh by deploying peacekeeping forces there, preferably
not Russian,…to smother Nagorny Karabakh and force it to submit,"
the Russian expert said.

He said it would be unnecessary for Washington to edge Russia out
of the disputed region to ensure that the area remained a part of
Azerbaijan.

"We took part in the Kosovo settlement, but who took us into account?

Nobody, and the United States wants a repetition of the scenario,
and Tina knows only too well how to do this," Alexandrov said.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Europe considers Armenia to be one of the centers of
world civilization. This is the reason why many European countries wish
to lay a bridge towards Armenia. The opening of the House of Europe in
Armenia can serve as a foundation for such a bridge, German professor,
one of the founders of German University in Armenia, Paul Imhof told
a news conference in Yerevan today.

For his part, Eduard Saroyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of
German University in Armenia said University will be located at the
House of Europe, along with research centers charged with the task
to disseminate European values in the republic. He also briefed on
aims and objectives of the new university.

The founders of the university are mainly professors from Germany
and German-Armenian Association. University curriculum will include
European Studies as well as European civilization-related subjects.

"Our University offers MA and postgraduate courses. The emphasis will
be laid on education quality rather than students’ quantity. In future,
our graduates will be as competitive in the labor market as graduates
of other prestigious universities of Armenia," Saroyan said.

He also noted that university professors will be able to give lectures
directly from Germany via videoconferences and video-boards.

The official opening of German University is scheduled for June. "Our
tutoring costs will not exceed those of Armenia’s prestigious
universities. To study at our university, knowledge of German is not
obligatory, yet students should speak English," Saroyan said.
