The idea of giving up the use of natural resources altogether is actually not reasonable, Pashinyan says

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan introduced newly appointed Minister Romanos Petrosyan to the staff of the Ministry of Environment, the government press service reported.

The Premier congratulated Mr. Petrosyan on his appointment and thanked Erik Grigoryan for his valuable efforts as Minister of Nature Protection and then as Minister of Environment.

“Mr. Petrosyan is being transferred from the post of Kotayk Marz Governor. We should state that he lived up to his mission and carried out effective activities as Marz Governor. And we have to express hope and confidence that his efforts will be as effective or perhaps more effective in the capacity of Minister of Environment,” said Pashinyan.

Speaking of the country’s environmental policy, Pashinyan said there are  sometimes extreme approaches to the environment or nature not only in Armenia, but also around the globe. “On the one hand, we can see nature worship; while on the other hand, we are faced with complete contempt for nature. And our task is to find such a balanced approach between nature and human civilization that could offset the existing contradiction,” said the PM

The Premier emphasized that the Government Program is based on the concept of Green Armenia. In other words, the Executive envisions Armenia as a country that meets the highest environmental standards. And the biggest challenges start from everyday life and end at the industrial level in this sphere.

“Our daily life, our industry, and our mining industry must meet such standards as we can call balanced. To say that we should give up the use of natural resources altogether is actually not reasonable, and even impossible. But on the other hand, we cannot go the way of environmental disasters: it is not the right path, besides we will not allow it,” Nikol Pashinyan said.

Coming to the results registered in recent years, Nikol Pashinyan noted that during Erik Grigoryan’s tenure, poaching considerably decreased in Armenia. He mentioned the fact of serious, tangible success in terms of forest protection.

“While it is true that environmental problems develop over several years, in the meantime nature responds very quickly to the steps taken to protect it. Environment is also important from the point of view of Armenia’s political, tourism and economic image. This is a strategic direction, and here we must achieve tangible success,” the Prime Minister said.

Armenia’s transformation until 2050, which states that doubling Armenia’s forested areas is a strategic issue,” the Premier said.

Turkish press: Turkish, Azerbaijani joint drill continues during Eid al-Adha – Turkey News

A joint military exercise by the land and air elements of the Turkish and Azerbaijani armies has continued during the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, Turkey’s Defense Ministry said on Aug. 1. The military exercise was conducted with the participation of mechanized units and attack choppers in the drill taking place on the territories of Azerbaijan, according to the ministry.

The ministry said over Twitter that the two countries’ contingents have continued the preparations for the drill, which will last until mid-August over the weekend.

The weekend exercises included mechanized units, snipers, fire support teams, commandos and attack helicopters, it added.

The annual exercise aiming to improve the two armies’ cooperation and coordination was launched on July 29 after the tension between Armenia and Azerbaijan has escalated as a result of the former’s attack on the border.

The exercises are planned to be executed in two phases; land and air. The former is planned to be concluded on Aug. 5 while the latter will last until Aug. 14 with warplanes and air defense elements being used.

Turkey has expressed full support and assistance to Azerbaijan while urging Armenia to stop its attacks that would further de-stabilize the Caucasus.

Upper Karabakh, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan, is under illegal Armenian occupation since 1991.

Maritime training with Spain

In the meantime, the ministry announced in a separate statement on Aug. 2 that Turkish and Spanish navies are conducting maritime training in the northern Aegean as part of a NATO mission.

“Standing NATO Maritime Group-2 (SNMG-2) units consisting of Spanish ESPS ALVARO DE BAZAN and TCG YILDIRIM conducted maritime trainings with TCG DOĞAN and TCG MARTI on 30 July 2020 in the Northern Aegean Sea,” the ministry said in a tweet.

Thousands of Javakhk Armenians on Tuesday gathered at the Akhalkalak soccer stadium in Georgia on Tuesday to show their solidarity with Armenia and its Armed Forces, condemn Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia and demand peace in the region.

The participants of the gathering told the Yerevan-based Yerkir.am that through their peaceful gathering they condemned the war and military aggression by Azerbaijan, when it brazenly attacked military and civilian targets in Armenia’s Tavush Province beginning on July 12.

One of the participants also condemned threats by Azerbaijan against Georgia and its efforts to engage Georgia in their anti-Armenian campaign.

The Georgian-Armenian told Yerrkir.am that he believes Georgia and Armenia must prosper together, adding that Azerbaijan’s efforts to instigate racial clashes in Georgia are doomed to fail.

“Our peaceful gathering also carries this message,” said the Georgian-Armenian.

Javakhk Armenians danced and sang patriotic songs during the peaceful gathering

“Javakhk has always stood strongly with the Republic of Armenia,” said one of the clergy from the Javakhk Diocese.

“Just as during the 1988 Spitak earthquake and the Artsakh War, the same is true today: we always stand by Armenia—our heart and soul—and we declare that we are all Armenian and we are all united,” added the cleric. “Long live Javakhk, long live Armenia and long live all Armenians.”

The gathering was unprecedented given Georgia’s strict guidelines to combat the coronavirus pandemic, becoming the first of such gatherings in Georgia.

During the gathering, which took place under the slogan of “No to War” Armenian songs could be heard, with participants taking part by dancing and singing patriotic songs.

YEREVAN, JULY 16, ARMENPRESS. The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has already claimed lives, now we are again on the verge of war and should fight for peace, ethnic Armenian MP of the Swedish Parliament Arin Karapet said on Facebook.

“Recently the Azerbaijani troops launched an attack on an Armenian bordering military base, firing mortar shells at the settlements. Exchange of fire has taken place from both sides, and there is a danger of one more bloody conflict. The recent events should be condemned, and the two countries should return to a negotiation table. The war will only lead to human sufferings”, the MP said.

According to him, Sweden can and should act now and contribute to preventing a new bloody conflict.

“We are a member of the OSCE Minsk Group which has been created specially for the mediation between the two countries during the war in the 1990s. We can be constructive through it and call for restraint.

Now we need to condemn the violence and work actively for installing latest surveillance technologies along the border. This allows independent countries to control the conflict in the real time and contribute to accountability. Eventually, it can lead to the political solution of the conflict, rather than the military one”, the ethnic Armenian lawmaker said.

YEREVAN, JULY 6, ARMENPRESS. The situation over coronavirus remains hard in Armenia. Nearly 1000 new cases were reported during the week-end and the health care system continues working under pressure, ARMENPRESS reports PM Pashinyan said in a briefing following the session at the Commandant’s Office.

”Bad news come not only from Armenia, but from the entire world. In many countries the situation seems to be taken under control, but later we receive information about the 2nd wave’’, Pashinyan said.

Nikol Pashinyan noted that the strategy over the situation remains the same. The authorities see the way out of the situation also with the help of citizens, who can change the situation by changing their individual behavior and cooperation. Pashinyan emphasized that relying only on administrative measures the situation cannot be solved.
