Moscow’s Policies In Caucasus ‘Very Dangerous,’ Warns ARF

MOSCOW’S POLICIES IN CAUCASUS ‘VERY DANGEROUS,’ WARNS ARF

Yerkir

Hrair Karapetian, ARF Armenia Supreme Council member and chairman of
the parliamentary committee of defense and national security,

YEREVAN (Yerkir)-Armenian Revolutionary Federation leaders have
expressed concern over Russia’s recent deepening of military
cooperation with Armenia’s main regional adversaries, saying Moscow’s
policies in the Caucasus are becoming "very dangerous" and run counter
to a military alliance between Armenia and Russia.

ARF Armenia Supreme Council member and chairman of the parliamentary
committee of defense and national security, Hrair Karapetian,
told reporters Wednesday that Russia’s posturing goes counter to
the Collective Security Treaty Organization, of which Azerbaijan is
not a member. The CSTO is a Russia-led defense alliance between six
former Soviet States, which was established to counterbalance NATO’s
influence in the region.

Karapetian highlighted a plan of joint military activities for next
year that was recently signed by the defense ministers of Azerbaijan
and Russia. He said, "This makes us wonder, ‘What is the difference
between us and Azerbaijan?’ We are a member of the Collective Security
Treaty Organization, Azerbaijan is not. Is it worth deepening military
cooperation with a country whose representatives periodically make
bellicose statements?"

He said the Russian policy "…is at least strange and unacceptable
to us. It contributes to the development of an even more dangerous
situation," with regards to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Karapetian went on to deplore Russian-Turkish military cooperation.

Moscow is seeking to forge closer defense links with "a country that
still threatens Armenia’s security," he said.

At a press conference Tuesday, ARF Bureau member Vahan Hovannesian
said that Moscow’s policies related to the South Caucasus are becoming
"very dangerous" for Armenia.

The two ARF leaders urged Armenia’s traditional allies, including
members of the CSTO, of forging military relations with Azerbaijan
and Turkey, as they would shift the balance of power in the region.

MARIOS GAROYIAN CALLED FOR THE INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The President of the Greek Cypriot House of
Representatives called for the international recognition of the
Armenian Genocide on Sunday, the Financial Mirror reported.

"I believe we have the duty to remember the Armenian Genocide and
reaffirm our steadfast faith towards the struggle for international
recognition of that terrible crime which marked the fate and the
course of the Armenian people," said Marios Garoyian, speaking after
Sunday mass at the Armenian Church of Nicosia.

"We ask for justice," he added. "We demand the restoration of the
historic truth, not its falsification." The Parliament of Cyprus was
the first in the EU to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide,
in 1982.

Garoyian pointed to recent attempt by Turkey to normalize relations
with Armenia as another attempt by Turkey to deny justice to the
Armenian people. He described agreements signed by Yerevan and Ankara
as an "attempt of the Turkish government" to falsify history though
so-called peace with Armenia.

The Cypriot leader drew a connection with the struggle for the
Armenian people’s struggle for justice and the efforts by Cyprus to
overcome nearly 3 decades of Turkish occupation of the northern half
of the island.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and
occupied the north, installing a government controlled by Ankara.

"Justice and freedom is what we want for our common country, Cyprus,
which for 35 years now suffers the consequences of the Turkish invasion
and occupation," Garoyian said.

"We want a just, functional and viable solution, that would restore
the unity of Cyprus’ territory, its people, its institutions and that
would safeguard human rights for all its people, Greek Cypriots and
Turkish Cypriots, Maronites, Armenians and Latins and bring an end
to the Turkish occupation of Cyprus, to Ankara’s policy to illegally
bring settlers to the island, to Turkish guarantees and intervention
rights," he stressed.

Garoyian said that the peace solution in Cyprus must be based on
international law, UN values and decisions, human rights and the EU
values and principles.

ALIYEV’S STATEMENT AIMS TO RUIN ARMENIAN-TURKISH PROCESS, SAYS ANALYST

Armenia

Ilham Aliyev’s warlike statements are not new for not only the Armenian
public but also the international community, political analyst Stepan
Grigoryan said when commenting on the Azerbaijani president’s recent
statements, upon Tert.am’s request.

Grigoryan said that he has repeated those bellicose statements numerous
times, but he is sure the statement made on November 20, by its nature,
differs from previous statements.

"It is the first time that the statement has no connection whatsoever
with the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. It serves [only] one purpose, to
ruin the establishment process of Armenia-Turkey relations, and the
ratification of the Protocols," Grigoryan said.

The analyst said that the improvement of Armenia-Turkey relations
will bring qualitative changes into the region, as a result of which
Azerbaijan’s role will diminish.

"It is clear that Azerbaijan understands that quite well and is ready
to take any steps to ruin the Armenia-Turkey process," Grigoryan said.

According to him, in such a situation, postponing the Protocols’
ratification is a serious mistake in both the Armenian and Turkish
parliaments, since it makes room for those which are against
Armenia-Turkey relations.

Even Tolerant Europe Can’t Change A Turk

EVEN TOLERANT EUROPE CAN’T CHANGE A TURK

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Turkish community in France is among the most
non-integratable ones, military psychologist Davit Jamalyan told a
news conference in Yerevan. "If a Turk does not change in tolerant
environment, how can he be expected to change in Turkey?" Jamalyan
questioned, adding that Armenia, still, has to seek rapprochement,
having a realistic view on the issue.

At that, he considers Turkish youth’s unawareness as to Armenian
Genocide to be an overstatement. "The question is whether they will
be sorry for their predecessors’ deeds after the truth becomes known,"
Jamalyan noted.

Commenting on apologies, made by Turkish student, following his
denial of Genocide, the psychologist noted that the apology would
not be uttered should the same happen in Turkey. "An inner pressure
is necessary for a Turk to change," Jamalyan emphasized.

Mustafa Dogan, a 13-year-old Turk, was suspended from a school in
Nancy for two days for denial of the Armenian Genocide.

Dogan’s history teacher asked a question about the Armenian Genocide
in a written exam. Having previously argued with the teacher over
the issue, the Turkish student wrote, "Even if it did happen, they
deserved it."

Following the quarrel, the school’s disciplinary committee suspended
Mustafa Dogan for two days and gave him an assignment in which he
was to recognize the validity of the genocide within two days. The
principal of the Jacques Marquette secondary school, Francis Vignola
said he supported the sanctions placed on Mustafa Dogan.
