YEREVAN, JULY 20, ARMENPRESS. Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Alen Simonyan received today the delegation of the German Bundestag led by Vice-President Katrin Göring-Eckardt, the Parliament’s press service said.

The sides highly valued the sustainable development of the Armenian-German friendly relations and the deepening of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The conversation focused on the necessity of multi-layered parliamentary cooperation and joint projects between the Armenian National Assembly and the German Bundestag.

“Among EU states, Germany is Armenia’s largest trade partner. We also highly appreciate Germany’s support to Armenia’s democratic agenda”, Speaker Alen Simonyan said.

Issues relating to the post-war situation, the establishment of lasting peace in the region were discussed. The Speaker of Parliament said that Armenia is acting with an agenda to open a peaceful era in the region and is making efforts both in the direction of unblocking of regional infrastructures and transportation routes, and of delimitation and border security. He said Armenia has no territorial claims towards its neighbors.

The German Bundestag Vice-President said they closely follow the developments happening in the region and expressed confidence that peaceful negotiations are an effective mean to solve conflicts.

The sides also discussed practical issues relating to the organization of Christian Prayer Breakfast, a part of Germany’s rich parliamentary tradition, as well as renewable energy-related matters.

The sides highlighted the importance of inter-library cooperation, contacts, mutual visits and exchange of experience in the development and strengthening of inter-cultural and educational ties. The prospects of holding joint events were also discussed.

YEREVAN, JULY 20, ARMENPRESS. Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, who is in Poland on an official visit, had a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the country Jacek Sasin, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reports.

The interlocutors commended the development and existing dynamic of the interstate relations for 30 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations. 

Foreign Minister of Armenia underscored that Poland is one of the important European partners of Armenia.

Ararat Mirzoyan and Jacek Sasin discussed the prospects for the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, expressing readiness to make efforts towards the full realization of trade and economic potential, creation of investment opportunities and activation of business to business contacts.

Minister Mirzoyan noted that since 2018, the anti-corruption campaign, as well as reforms towards improving the business environment, have been widely implemented in Armenia, which creates good opportunities for the investors.

The sides emphasized the implementation of the agreement on the acquisition of about 65 percent of the shares of the Armenian Stock Exchange by the Warsaw Stock Exchange, which will create new opportunities for cooperation in the capital market between Armenia and Poland.

The role of the Armenian-Polish Intergovernmental Commission of Economic Cooperation as an effective platform for discussing joint programs and outlining practical steps was highlighted. In this context, the interlocutors also emphasized mutual visits of business delegations and the holding of conferences.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister Mirzoyan also presented the position of the Armenian side regarding the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Pyunik FC manager apologizes for striking child pitch invader after Dudelange match

YEREVAN, JULY 20, ARMENPRESS. The General Manager of Yerevan’s Pyunik FC Kim Arakelyan has issued a public apology for striking a child who ran into the pitch following the club’s UEFA Champions League 1st leg of second qualifying round match against F91 Dudelange.

“I’d like to apologize for the incident that took place after the match against Dudelange. My partners who organize international matches will very well understand that these matches imply a great sense of responsibility and any violation could lead to serious consequences for the club, up to disqualification of the entire team and ban from participation in European championships.

Nevertheless, I very well realize and I bear the entire responsibility for the incident. Being devoted to Pyunik FC and our country, I couldn’t properly react and I let my emotions control me. I apologize to everyone involved and our team, because our team symbolizes only victories, history and respect,” Arakelyan said in a statement.

He added that he is willing to meet with the child and the parents and personally apologize.

YEREVAN, JULY 19, ARMENPRESS. Within the framework of the official visit to Poland, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau on July 19.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the MFA Armenia, the Ministers exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Poland, noting that the partnership of the last 30 years is a solid ground for consistent development and strengthening of interstate relations.

In this context, the Ministers expressed satisfaction with the results of the political consultations held between the Armenian and Polish Foreign Ministries on June 28 in Yerevan and expressed their belief that their continuity and frequency will best serve to the deepening of the political dialogue and cooperation between the two countries.

The Ministers referred to the possibilities of further expansion of Armenian-Polish cooperation, expressing readiness to take steps in the fields of trade, high and information technologies, finance and banking, justice, education, science and culture.

The interlocutors exchanged ideas on deepening cooperation in the direction of promotion of democracy, protection of human rights and strengthening the rule of law. Minister Mirzoyan presented the agenda of democratic reforms in Armenia to his colleague.

The key role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs’ format in promoting Nagorno Karabakh peace process and normalizing relations with Azerbaijan was emphasized.

Ararat Mirzoyan presented to his colleague Azerbaijan’s continuous provocative actions towards Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, belligerent and maximalist statements, stressing that similar steps undermine efforts aimed at establishing regional stability and peace.

Reference was made to the humanitarian consequences of the 44-day war, in particular, the repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians illegally held in Azerbaijan, as well as the prevention of the policy of destruction and distortion of the Armenian historical and cultural heritage of Artsakh in the territories that have passed under Azerbaijani control.

FM Mirzoyan expressed confidence that the existing mechanisms in the toolkit of the OSCE and the Institute of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office will contribute to opening an era of regional peace and sustainable development and strengthening the atmosphere of constructive dialogue and trust.
