Armenians Voting By Feet?

Armenians Voting By Feet?

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 16:19:40 – 24/08/2012

Yesterday, the Eurasian Youth Forum kicked off in Tsakhkadzor which is
initiated by the Prosperous Armenia Party. Delegates of a number of
countries intending to set up the Eurasian Union attend the forum.

The fact that the forum is not initiated by the ruling Republican
Party shows the authorities of Armenia don’t support the Eurasian
movement and its advocate in Armenia is the second largest
parliamentary party. At the same time, opinions against Armenia’s
accession to the Eurasian Union are still considered in the
information sphere as `oppositional’ and externally provoked.

There is nothing paradoxical in all this: it is not easy for the
cumbersome of the Armenian propaganda machine to get off the
pro-Russian rails and get on the European ones which have been so far
considered foreign and even hostile. Even the statements of the
president and the premier on the European integration of Armenia were
unable to change the information sphere in Armenia which prefers not
to touch the issue on the foreign political orientation.

At the same time, the promoters of the Eurasian Union are increasing.
Head of the union of political scientists Hmayak Hovhannisyan, in
answer to the proposal to hold a referendum on the foreign political
orientation, affirms that Armenians have already held their referendum
`by feet’. The greater part of Armenians looks in the direction of
Russia, which is the best referendum, says Hmayak Hovhannisyan.

It is true, the largest part of Armenians leave for Russia. But why?
Perhaps because Russia has not closed its territory for Armenians and
others to be free to go there and work. While in order to reach a
European country, an Armenian needs to spend months in embassies.
Maybe because sloppy trading and building in Europe is not allowed,
while in Russia it is normal. Anyway, maybe it’s worth thinking about
why Armenians leave Armenia?

The idea on the referendum caused panic among the supporters of the
Eurasian Union. When people vote, they are alone, they will start
comparing the European Union and Russia and they will not choose out
of fear but by logic. Considering that the referendum will be
`falsified’ by the authorities not in favor of the Eurasian Union, its
supporters will find themselves in puddle.
