Expert Concerned Over State Of National Monuments Outside Armenia

EXPERT CONCERNED OVER STATE OF NATIONAL MONUMENTS OUTSIDE ARMENIA

Samvel Karapetyan, Head of the Research on Armenian Architecture
(RAA) NGO, held a meeting with journalists Thursday.

He presented the work the NGO has carried out this year. Karapetyan
pointed out a poor condition of Armenian historical and cultural
monuments outside Armenia.

For example, all the churches located in Agulis, Nakhijevan,
Azerbaijan, were photographed from the space. However, after comparing
the photographs with Azerbaijan’s map, expert saw that the Armenian
monuments shared the fate of the Juga khachkars (cross-stones).

Armenian monuments are also endangered in Turkey: along with renovation
of the Akhtamar church in Van, which was intended as a showcase,
Mreni church of the 7th century was destroyed.

Numerous monuments have been destroyed in Georgia as well. With respect
to the Nshan church (Church of the Holy Sign), Karapetyan said that
Georgia’s authorities are keeping their promise to restore the church.

As to the NGO’s further projects, Karapetyan said that the NGO will
continue publishing its journal, books, as well as a series of volumes
on all the provinces of Western Armenia. The series is to be published
in 2015.

“We have scaled up our activities in recent three years due to
an agreement with Armenia’s Ministry of Health on registration of
monuments outside Armenia,” Karapetyan said. It has been the NGO’s
desire to publish a scholarly journal, and the project has been
launched this year.

“The journal is necessary as some research results cannot be published
as a book. We would not like to publish our research results in
different journals,” Karapetyan said.

“The name of the journal, Vartsk (Reward), means our duty to our
forefathers’ memory,” Karapetyan said.

The NGO has also released the 15th volume of our studies of monuments,
including a three-language volume on monuments of Ani.

Public Figure: Azerbaijan Willing To Blackmail Hungary Over Safarov’

PUBLIC FIGURE: AZERBAIJAN WILLING TO BLACKMAIL HUNGARY OVER SAFAROV’S CASE

PanARMENIAN.Net

PanARMENIAN.Net – Azerbaijan seeks to achieve release of Armenian
officer’s assassin Ramil Safarov through offering financial support
to Hungary, RA first human rights defender said.

“Negative political developments have recently been recorded in
Hungary, such as shift from democracy into authoritarianism and
disastrous economic situation,” Larisa Alaverdyan said, deeming
Safarov’s extradition from Hungary possible.

In this context, Ms. Alaverdyan cited several media publications
expressing Azerbaijan’s readiness to redeem Hungary’s state bonds at
the amount of $2-3 bln.

“It’s noteworthy that Azerbaijan’s corrupt activities were mentioned
in reports by international and European institutions. Such procedures
can’t be termed as mere coincidence,” she said, adding that Hungary’s
political elite entered into disgraceful relations with Azerbaijan
through Turkey’s mediation.

Lieutenant of the Armenian Armed Forces Gurgen Margaryan, 26, was
hacked to death, while asleep, by a fellow Azerbaijani participant,
lieutenant Ramil Safarov, in Budapest during a three-month English
language course in the framework of NATO-sponsored Partnership for
Peace program.

On April 13, 2006, Budapest District Court sentenced Safarov to life
in prison for murdering Margaryan. On February 22, 2007, Budapest
Court rejected the Azerbaijani military officer’s appeal against the
verdict, precluding possibility of pardon for the initial 30 years.

By a decree of then-President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian, officer
Margaryan was awarded with a posthumous Medal for Courage on February
19, 2005.

Ambitions Of Baku In NK Conflict Can Not Be Satisfied: Victor Sheyni

AMBITIONS OF BAKU IN NK CONFLICT CAN NOT BE SATISFIED: VICTOR SHEYNIS

ARMENPRESS
29 August, 2012
YEREVAN

YEREVAN, AUGUST 29, ARMENPRESS: Artsakh movement activist Bako
Sahakyan on September 7 will return to the post of the President
of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. At first I would like to that our
authorities did not do – to congratulate Mr. Sahakyan for the victory
in presidential elections. Armenpress reports that about this wrote
member of “Yabloko” party, professor Victor Sheynis in the article
dedicated to Artsakh in “Nezavisimaya Gazeta” newspaper.

The author of the article has followed several elections in Artsakh.

“During these years I have visited tens of electoral areas and
have met many times candidates, ministers, political figures and
even representatives of opposition. I haves spoken to residents and
with members of electoral commissions and observers. In result of all
these processes I can say for sure that they have always been fair and
competitive elections. I would like Russia to have such transparence
and equality for candidates during its elections” writes the author.

He also reverberated to the difficult life conditions of the Republic.

He writes that already for almost 25 years that little country
confronts Azerbaijani aggression and treats. “Since 1988 NKR lives,
strengthens its Government, tries to cure the wounds of 1991-1994”
shared with his emotions Sheynis.

Today in Artsakh there is a peace but not stable peace because in
the contact line there are shootings. Sheynis writes that from Baku
there are sounded many declarations according to which if Karabakh is
not included in a peaceful way in its territory than the issue will
have military solution. But people of Karabakh believe in their day
of tomorrow and do not leave the country. The streets of Stepanakert
are full of people.

Reverberating to oil dollars of Baku Sheynis mentions that
above-mentioned money allows Azerbaijani authorities replenish
armaments. The provoking of war hysteria is an experienced way of
self-preservation of the regime which can not solve its internal
problems. “For many years in framework of Minsk Group there is
negotiation process in which Nagorno-Karabakh side does not take part.

Azerbaijani side does not want to accept the reality- the nation will
never agree to give the liberty gained by blood”.

Spartak Fan Club: Hanging Of Armenian And Karabakh Flags In Istanbul

SPARTAK FAN CLUB: HANGING OF ARMENIAN AND KARABAKH FLAGS IN ISTANBUL IS A FRUIT OF THE IMAGINATION OF AZERBAIJAN JOURNALISTS

arminfo
Wednesday, August 29, 14:58

The reports that Spartak fans will take with them Armenian and
Karabakh flags to the August 29 match Spartak – Fenerbahche in
Istanbul, as well as posters with the following slogans “Turkey,
recognize Armenian Genocide!” and “Turkey, return the Armenian
lands!” do not correspond to reality, Spartak Fan Clun told Soviet
Sport.

“Like you we have learned about that from the news in the web. It is
rather a fruit of the imagination of Azerbaijan journalists who heat
political passions before the match,” the Fan Club reported.

Turkish hackers broke into FC Spartak Moscow of Russia’s official
website on August 22. The portrait of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk-founder of
the Rep. of Turkey-appeared on the website’s homepage on Wednesday,
and with the following inscription: “Immediately apologize to
the Turkish nation! FIFA [International Federation of Association
Football] did not heed this fact, but we will not leave this crime
unpunished,” Championat.com informs. During the Union of European
Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League match played Tuesday in
Moscow, and between FC Spartak Moscow and Fenerbahce S.K. of Istanbul,
Turkey-which ended by a score of 2-1 in favor of the host club-the
Spartak fans in the stands burned posters with the portrait of Ataturk.

Canada’s Armenians Outraged By Possible Erection Of Monument To Turk

CANADA’S ARMENIANS OUTRAGED BY POSSIBLE ERECTION OF MONUMENT TO TURKISH OFFICIAL

PanARMENIAN.Net
August 29, 2012 – 13:03 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Ottawa’s
National Capital Commission have allowed the installation of a monument
reportedly commemorating the 30th anniversary of the killing of an
official of the Turkish Embassy in Ottawa, Asbarez reported.

“Terrorism must be condemned, especially by countries and organizations
that work toward social justice and human rights. All Armenian-Canadian
organizations have and continue to condemn terrorism, be it terrorism
that is state-sponsored or terrorism committed by individuals or
groups. It is, however, disappointing that the Turkish Government’s
propaganda and rhetoric directly and indirectly insinuates
and associates the said act with Armenians. No culprit has been
apprehended for the act. Nevertheless, Turkish authorities continue
to make unfounded accusations, and pressure Canadian authorities
to focus unjustified investigations on Armenian-Canadians that are
an integral part of the Canadian community,” the Armenian National
Committee of Canada said in a statement.

Dr. Girair Basmadjian, President of the ANC – Canada expressed his
concerns, stating: “We hope that this monument, imported from Turkey
in undue secrecy, does not create tensions between communities
in Canada. I question the intentions of the sponsors. Considering
that the monument was made and imported from Turkey it would have
been appropriate to have included the dedication to victims of state
sponsored terrorism.” Dr. Basmadjian added, “as part of its decades-old
tactics of denial of the Armenian Genocide, Turkey continues to find
ways of creating opportunities to deflect the focus of attention from
its responsibility as a Genocide perpetrator and human rights abuser.”
