Final Standings

(in tiebreak order)
1-2 Armenia, Russia, 19/22
3 Ukraine, 18/22
4-5 China, USA, 17/22
6-8 Netherlands, Vietnam, Romania, 16/22
9-18 Hungary, Azerbaijan, Cuba, Germany, Poland, Serbia, Italy,
Sweden, England, Denmark, 15/22
19-33 Moldova, Bulgaria, Philippines, Argentina, France, Uzbekistan,
Slovenia, Israel, Croatia, Latvia, Belarus, Slovakia, Turkmenistan,
Australia, Bangladesh, 14/22

Total of 150 participants

AT THE START of the final round it was China, Russia and Armenia
tied for 1st place with China ahead on tiebreaks. However, China’s
gold medal ambitions were stopped by the Ukrainians 1-3, allowing
Armenia to snatch the Olympiad championship via a narrow 2.5-1.5
victory over Hungary.

Armenian board 2 Sergei Movsesian, the least productive player in
the Armenian squad with less than a 50% score, struck hardest when
it was needed the most and defeated Zoltan Almasi from the White side
of a Ruy Lopez.

All other games were drawn.

Russia defeated Germany 3-1 (wins by Kramnik and Karjakin over
Naiditsch and Fridman) to tie for first but was beaten out by Armenia’s
high tiebreak points.

They may perhaps point to Karjakin as the culprit as he was uninspired
during the event and had the tendency to agree to quick draws as soon
as the minimum number of 30 moves had been made.

A tired Philippine squad lost rather heavily to Romania 1-3 and were
relegated to 21st place.

Tbilisi: Cinema: Armenian Love Story Features Georgian Co-Star

CINEMA: ARMENIAN LOVE STORY FEATURES GEORGIAN CO-STAR
BY ETUNA TSOTNIASHVILI

Georgia

Tbilisi will host a new movie of Armenian origin entitled 100, 000
Seconds and directed by Ara Arnjakian. The film will star well known
Armenian actress Luiza Nersisyan and Georgian actor David Katsarava.

The movie premiere was held last week and is currently being shown
in Georgian cinemas.

The plot is developed mainly in one space and only two persons are
playing in it. “The film is very emotional and pleasant for watching,
this is one of the reasons why Georgian film lovers should see it,”
says Georgian actor David Katsarava. It is noteworthy that the casting
of Katsarava’s role was very high and reportedly, the Armenian director
could not find an appropriate candidate for that role until he met
the Georgian actor.

“The casting was very high, but I could not choose anyone. However,
as soon as I saw David, I understood that he was the right man
for the film,” Director Arjakian says, adding that there were a
lot of questions as to why he chose a Georgian actor for the role:
“all questions stopped as soon as they saw the movie,” he added.

“I am happy to be here in Georgia and as you know, we are presenting
our new movie, I hope the Georgian public will like it and visit
the cinemas to see it,” Luiza Nersisyan told the media. According to
Nersisyan, it was very pleasant for her to work with David Katsarava.

“He is an excellent partner and we did not have any difficulties to
work together,” she said.

The film begins with a banal story where a man and a woman meet and
introduce each other by chance and a love story begins, although the
plot develops very surprisingly and it has a very unexpected ending.

The movie’s soundtrack is written and performed by Haiko and Anahit
Shahbazyan.

Tbilisi is the third city where movie premiere took place. Before
Tbilisi the film was shown in Yerevan and in Los Angeles for the
Armenian Diaspora.

AMERICAN ARMENIANS CALL THE STEP OF HUNGARY AND AZERBAIJAN A JEER AT JUSTICE

19:00 . 10/09

Protests continue near the Hungarian and Azerbaijani embassies
in different parts of the world, which are organized by the
representatives of Armenian communities.

They condemn the decisions of extradition of Ramil Safarov, who killed
Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan to Azerbaijan and pardoning him
in Baku.

The second demonstration was held in connection with this in
Washington. The first one was organized on the next day of extraditing
Safarov to Azerbaijan, on September 1. Those gathered called the steps
of Hungary and Azerbaijan a jeer at justice and urged immediately to
send the murderer back to jail.

A demonstration will also be held in New York this evening, near the
