The Italian squad had its last local training on Tuesday before
departing for Yerevan, Armenia to play for the World Cup qualifier
this Friday.

Italian Coach Cesare Prandelli has been practicing with a 4-3-1-2
formation. It is rumored that the Prandelli will be using this format
against a weak Armenian squad.

According to the Italian sport press, Prandelli will be using the two
different forwards, Mario Balotelli and Pablo Osvaldo, compared to
what he used against Malta in the last World Cup qualifier in which
Italy won at home 2-0.

Cesare Prandelli will also be utilizing a younger squad on Friday. The
Italian Coach has said to the Italian press, earlier this week, that
Italy needs new blood for the next World Cup that will be played in
Brazil 2014.

After playing against Armenia, in the third Wold Cup qualifier game,
Italy will fly back on Saturday to begin practicing for Denmark,
which will be the Tuesday game played in Italy.

‘WE’RE PRETTY EXCITED’: KIM KARDASHIAN’S EX REGGIE BUSH IS GOING TO BE A FATHER

Kim Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush has confirmed rumours that
he is going to be a father.

The American Footballer revealed on Tuesday that he and girlfriend
Lilit Avagyan, 25, are ‘pretty excited’.

‘I have a little one on the way,’ he told Florida’s Paul and Young
Ron Morning Show. ‘We’re pretty excited… It’s an opportunity to
bring in new life and raise a child.’

And he joked that he was hoping for a boy.

‘I’m hoping for a boy because if it’s a girl, I’m going straight to
the gun shop to buy some guns.’

But on a more serious note he revealed that he felt becoming a parent
was ‘the most special gift to a man and to a woman.’

And the Miami Dolphns star added: ‘I look forward to it, and to
building a family.’

Reggie, 27, has been dating professional dancer Lili for a year.

She shares his ex-girlfriend Kim’s Armenian heritage and has been
described as a ‘lookalike’.

Kim is reportedly upset by the news that her ex is to become a father.

A source told RadarOnline: ‘Kim is very upset. Kim had pressured
Reggie for a very long time to get married while they were together
because she wanted to have a family with him.

‘Reggie just thought that Kim placed too much of a priority on her
fame and reality television though and he wanted none of it.

‘Reggie was a part of the Kardashian family for over five years and
deep down Kim has always held out hope that they would end up together,
even though she married Kris Humphries.’

The insider said it felt like ‘a slap in the face’ to Kim that Reggie
would consider having a baby with another woman when he wouldn’t
with her.

U.S. AMBASSADOR: ACCUSATION AGAINST OSKANIAN IS A BAD DEVELOPMENT FOR JUSTICE AND DEMOCRACY IN ARMENIA

Yerevan/Mediamax/. U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern said
today that the official accusation against Vardan Oskanian is a bad
development for justice and democracy in Armenia.

Presenting the U.S. stance on this issue, he noted that as he had
said previously as well, the case appeared to represent the selective
application of Armenian law.

“Moreover, the timing of these events in relation to the election
schedule is troubling”, noted the Ambassador.

“We urge the Government of Armenia to live up to its commitments to
the systematic, fair and transparent implementation of the rule of
law”, concluded John Heffern.

Armenia To Get A Slap From International Community – Mp

ARMENIA TO GET A SLAP FROM INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY – MP

tert.am

Artsvik Minasyan, an MP of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation
Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D), believes that any negative process affects
Armenia’s statehood.

The money laundering charges against Armenia’s ex-FM, MP of the
Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Vartan Oskanian is not an exception,
he added.

“They keep talking about this simple thing, implying something. If
there is anything, it would be better to bring the facts to the
surface,” he said.

Minasyan noted that Vartan Oskanian opened a loan account on January
18, 2011, and US $1,200,000 was transferred to the account. If the
Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office views it as embezzlement, why
they did not bring charges against Oskanian before he was elected to
parliament? “Armenia’s legal system should be ashamed of the charges
it has brought,” he said.

Artak Davtyan, an MP of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia
(RPA), disagrees with Minasyan. According to him, money laundering
is involved.

He regrets the fact that it is not the phenomenon, but a person that
comes into focus, which evokes international response.

“The Prosecutor General’s Office brought a serious charge. I do not
consider some of Oskanian’s explanations convincing,” Davtyan said.

Minasyan, however, does not think that the Vartan Oskanian case can
have any impact on the forthcoming presidential election.

“It will cause legal assessments and Armenia will receive new slaps
from the international community,” Minasyan said.

He welcomes the PAP’s attempts to defend its MP, without, however,
drawing far-reaching conclusions.

Minasyan explained his opinion that it is only a person that is
involved. First, Oskanian was able to voice valid criticism against
the authorities. Second, he was Armenia’s FM for ten years.

“This is a slur, and even a court cannot put things right,” he said.

“I do not see any political connotations. Rather, the case is being
politicized,” Davtyan said.

As regards Oskanian’s intention to run for presidency from the PAP,
Davtyan said that it is up to the party to decide.

Armenia Is A Geostrategic Master: It Is In Good Relations With The U

ARMENIA IS A GEOSTRATEGIC MASTER: IT IS IN GOOD RELATIONS WITH THE USA, RUSSIA AND IRAN

2012-10-09 15:44:16

Policymic website analyst Daniel Gaynor touched upon USA-Armenia
relations, observing them in regional measuring.

Most Americans wouldn’t be shocked to learn that the largest American
embassy in the world is in Baghdad, Iraq. But the second-largest is
in a surprising place: Armenia, policymic.com writes. It begs the
question: why?

The best explanation is a real estate mantra: location, location,
location. Armenia, a landlocked country with just 3 million people,
might be in the roughest neighborhood in the world. But in America’s
eyes, it might be in the most important position of any U.S. ally to
advance President Obama’s foreign policy agenda.

What Armenia lacks in natural resources – it has little oil, gas or
jewels – it makes up for in geography. Few countries are in better
position to shape U.S. foreign policy than Armenia.

Armenia borders Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Iran. As a part of
the former Soviet Union, it relies on nearby Russia extensively for
trade and military backing. The U.S. has a significant stake in all
five countries, and Armenia is now coming into view as a potentially
potent lever to advance American aims.

That is, if the Armenians can be won over.

As the U.S. tries to woo Armenia to become a stronger ally in the
region, the term “geostrategic” has never been more apt. Armenia is
literally at the center of a number of countries that Washington
considers among its top priorities. As President Obama tries to
accomplish key foreign policy objectives – like preventing Iran from
attaining nuclear bombs or seeing democracy flourish in Russia –
he’s got to encourage Armenia to play along.

To Armenia’s south, one such issue is unfolding in Iran’s nuclear
centrifuges. Last week, a media skirmish between the US and Israel
boiled over when Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated
publicly that America had no “moral right” to say whether or not
Israel could bomb Iran to prevent it from developing a nuclear weapon.

President Obama reportedly called Netanyahu at 3 a.m. to quell
tensions.

America is racing to develop every diplomatic pressure point it can
on Iran, lest Israel launch a preemptive attack and embroil America
in a third Middle East war in ten years. One of those pressure points
goes straight through Armenia.

While the US has cut off formal relations with Iran – Washington talks
through Switzerland’s embassy there – it’s no secret that it employs a
variety of foreign policy crowbars to influence and destabilize Iran’s
ruling regime. Some, like President Obama’s latest round of economic
sanctions, are well known. Partnering with Armenia is not, but could
have a major impact. Through economic and diplomatic incentives, the
U.S. is actively trying to shape Armenia into an ally. As President
Obama seeks to economically isolate Iran – his sanctions have cut the
value of Iran currency in half – he is trying to regionally isolate
the regime, as well. Armenia is key to that strategy.

For Armenia, the game is far less simple. Partnering with the U.S. –
with whom it has a good, but not great, relationship – could alienate
the few friends Armenia has left in the South Caucasus region. Armenia
wants military cooperation with Russia, but economic access to
the West.

While Armenia has tried to deepen relations with the European Union
and the US, Armenia’s two best friends at the moment are arguably
the US’s most challenging adversaries: Russia and Iran. That’s not
necessarily because of shared ideologies, or even shared interests;
it’s because Armenia doesn’t have many friends to pick from.

Of its four neighbors, two – Turkey and Azerbaijan – have have closed
off their borders to Armenia. To go on a road trip, every Armenian
must pass through either Tbilisi, Georgia or Tehran, Iran.

Why the frosty reception? Turkey, which the New York Review of Books
recently called “the historic nemesis of the Armenians,” is still
steaming mad over the negative PR associated with Armenian Genocide.

The Turks claim rogue military elements are responsible; Armenians
believe the Turkish government is reluctant to take the blame.

In either interpretation, the facts are stark: about 1.5 million
Armenians perished in a war with Turkey between 1915 and 1918. The
Turks closed off the border in 1993, and with it, a significant chunk
of Armenia’s economy disappeared. In the decades since, Armenia has
pressed for international recognition of the genocide – and rightfully
so – but that has only stoked the fire with the Turks.

But, while one would think that the genocide rift is what led Turkey
to close off its border, it’s not. Instead, Turkey is standing in
solidarity with another neighbor over a contested territory.

Azerbaijan, another former Soviet republic, shut its borders
with Armenia after the two battled over an Armenian-populated
Nagorno-Karabakh, in the 1990â~@²s. Today, the territory remains
a “semi-autonomous” area; meaning that the Azeris want it back,
the Armenians believe they control it, and the Karabakhis declared
independence (which no country has formally recognized).

Meanwhile, the relationship between Armenia and Azerbaijan is sliding
downhill. Last week, Azerbaijan made a deal with Hungary to extradite
a convicted Azeri murderer. (The man, 8 years ago, nearly decapitated
a sleeping Armenian serviceman with an axe at a NATO-sponsored English
class.) He was returned under the condition that he would serve at
least 25 more years in jail.

Instead, as the New York Times put it, he received “a new apartment,
eight years of back pay, a promotion to the rank of major and the
status of a national hero.” Uproar in Armenia ensued. Armenia’s
President released a statement warning, “The Armenians must not be
underestimated. We don’t want a war, but if we have to, we will fight
and win.”

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan is enjoying the windfall from oil exports.

Israel, in particular, has strengthened relations with the Azeris,
purchasing 30% of their oil from them, as well as selling them over
$1.5 billion in military supplies. The U.S. is also a buyer of Azeri
oil. As the New York Times points out, Azerbaijan invested more money
in its military than Armenia’s entire state budget last year. Hardly
the sign of harmonious relations to come.

So far, Armenia’s walked a diplomatic tightrope with skill. As my
Lonely Planet travel book explains, “Despite its limited resources,
Armenia has become a master at geopolitics. What other country in
the world can say it maintains good relations with the U.S., Russia
and Iran?”

Given the cards they’re dealt, Armenia has been a remarkable success
story. If America hopes to engender greater cooperation, it’s got
to sweeten the deal – through trade agreements, offering economic
reforms and encouraging private sector development in Armenia.

Armenia became independent in 1991. Two decades later, it’s still
trying to find its footing in the region. It may not have gold, oil,
gas or jewels to give to the US. But, instead, it may have something
more useful: a strategic position in the most critical–and potentially
most dangerous–region in the world.

The Eu Twinning Program To Support The Reform Of Armenian Justice Se

THE EU TWINNING PROGRAM TO SUPPORT THE REFORM OF ARMENIAN JUSTICE SECTOR

ARMENPRESS
9 October, 2012
YEREVAN

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 9, ARMENPRESS: The launch of new Twinning program
funded by the European Union was announced on October 9. The program
is to support the reforms in Armenian judicial sector. It is an
important factor for the further cooperation of Armenia-EU to meet
the requirements of the standards of European Union. The European
Union recognizes that Twinning is a very important means to help
people understand the aims of the EU, to develop a stronger sense of
European identity, and to bring the EU closer to its citizens. With the
help of Twinning program Armenian Ministry of Justice will establish
cooperation with German and Lithuanian Ministries.

Cooperation with Armenia in the framework of Twinning program has
begun from 2011. “Armenia is an important country for us. Country’s
judicial issues will be solved in the framework of this program.

Though We have cooperated for only a year, we have already had several
symposiums. We want this program to have a serious impact on Armenian
judicial sector” said Ambassador of EU Delegation to Armenia Trayan
Hristea.

European Union has allocated for about 1 million euros for the Twinning
program. The drafting of military projects has been also included in
the agenda of the two year lasting program. Wolfgang Shmit – Velbrok
noted that German Minister of Justice has greeted the program and
highlighted the participation of Lithuania.

The German head of the program Volker Elenberger believes that Armenia
and Germany are important partners.

The programmes will support the EU’s actions to improve European
cooperation on civil and criminal law, allow people to better exercise
their rights as EU citizens and promote equality. They will also help
to reinforce the EU’s efforts to fight crime, tackle drugs demand and
supply and safeguard the rights of people (such as accused persons or
victims of crime) when in criminal proceedings. The two new programmes
represent a major simplification compared to the existing programmes,
with less paperwork and more efficiency in their management. The
proposed Justice Programme and Rights and Citizenship Programme
will consolidate six existing funding programmes in the justice and
rights field. They will support the Commission’s efforts to build an
effective EU area of justice, focusing on activities with an increased
added value at EU level.

U.S.-Based Publisher Urges To Demand For Justice In Genocide Issue

U.S.-BASED PUBLISHER URGES TO DEMAND FOR JUSTICE IN GENOCIDE ISSUE

PanARMENIAN.Net
October 9, 2012 – 16:39 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – The Publisher of The California Courier
Glendale-based weekly assessed Armenia’s foreign policy over the last
45 years, including the Genocide recognition campaign as a steady one,
without major failures or achievements.

At news conference in Yerevan, Harut Sassounian expressed a slight
dissatisfaction over the government’s course. As he noted, Armenia’s
interests could have been better presented in the documents signed,
with the country capable of more firmness in its policy line.

According to the publicist, Genocide recognition demand has recently
been causing more harm than good. “Armenia’s restricting itself
to Genocide recognition demand, rather than calling for return of
territories, financial contribution and preservation of cultural
heritage, which only makes Turks happy. We must demand for justice,”
Sassounian urged.

In conclusion, the publicist suggested creating a 350-member parliament
to coordinate Diaspora activities.

ARMENIAN FILM TO BE SCREENED AT LOUVRE

An Armenian movie will be shown at the Louvre Museum for the first
time.

Harutyun Khachatryan’s film entitled “Border” will be screened at the
Museum on Sunday and it will be presented by world-renowned Iranian
film director, Abbas Kiarostami.

“Harutyun Khachatryan has succeeded in bringing a new hero to the
movies in a very unusual way. I have never seen anything like this
anywhere anymore. There is a buffalo in front of you and by looking
at it you understand that it, too, has consciousness and emotions. In
Khachatryan’s film we see a buffalo that is more human [than many
real humans]. How could such film not make an impression on me and
not change my inner world?”, Abbas Kiarostami specifically wrote in
the Louvre’s official website and with respect to “Border.”

To note, Harutyun Khachatryan’s “Border” is the only Armenian film
to win close to fifteen international awards.
