MATENADARAN WILL COOPERATE WITH LEADING EUROPEAN NATIONAL LIBRARIES

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 17, ARMENPRESS. Matenadaran after Mesrop Mashtots
will cooperate with national libraries of Berlin and Paris. As the
director of Matenadaran after Mesrop Mashtots Hrachya Tamrazyan
informed “Armenpress” Matenadaran will host director of National
Library of Berlin and discussed conditions of new cooperation with
him. Also cooperation with National Library of Paris will start and
in frames of the partnership Armenian Foundation of National Library
of Paris will have an exhibition in Matenadaran.

According to Hrachya Tamrazyan recently Matenadaran initiated
realization of two other projects what resulted the cooperation
with Central Institute of Restoration and Preservation of Archives
and Library Heritage of Rome. Hrachya Tamrazyan said: “Our agreement
with Central Institute of Restoration and Preservation of Archives and
Library Heritage of Rome stipulates cooperation in a number of spheres,
particularly the sphere of restoration and preservation of manuscripts
and archival documents, exchange of experience, materials, information
and methodology. Involvement of Armenian students in postgraduate
classes of the abovementioned institute is also considered”.

Director of Matenadaran also added that participants of international
projects are charmed with Matenadaran and consider it to be a unique
and exclusive place in the world.

”PRAVDA” REFERRED TO ARMENIAN AIRCRAFT ” ERZURUM LANDING ” AND ARMENIAN HISTORIC CITY OF ERZURUM

portal Pravda dwelled on Armenian aircraft landing in Erzurum
transporting humanitarian aid to war-torn Syria and on Armenian
historic city of Erzurum . As Armenpress reports citing Pravda.ru
the author the article Lisa Karpov wrote ” Turkish authorities have
searched a civilian aircraft traveling from Armenia to Syria after
it was made to land in the eastern city of Erzurum.

Ankara demanded an on-the-ground cargo inspection as a condition of
flying through so-called “Turkish” airspace. Erzurum was also a major
deportation center during the Armenian Genocide in 1915.

Ironically, an Armenian city historically, Erzurum was also a major
deportation center during the Armenian Genocide in 1915. In April 1915,
about 450 prominent Armenians of Erzerum city were imprisoned.

Most of them were intellectuals, community leaders, journalists and
merchants. In early May 1915, they were all executed. The city was
also the site of the Hamidian massacres (1894-1896) of the city’s
Armenian citizens.

Armenian “Air Armenia” company aircraft transferring humanitarian cargo
to Aleppo on the initiative of “Help your brother” landed Erzurum on
October 15.

Earlier Turkish NTV had declared as if the plane had been forced to
land on suspicion of transferring not humanitarian cargo. Armenian MFA
declared that the landing of Armenian plane was initially planned and
was done according to the agreement. The plane has passed a technical
examination in Erzurum.

Here’s a rundown of the finances of some ofArmenia’s Marzpets
(Provincial Governors) according to their 2011 disclosures.

Ararat Province- EdikBarseghyan: In 2010, he declared 5.661 million
AMD and 12 million in property revenue. In 2011, he declared 5.391
million, of which 2.307 million was salary and the rest pension. Last
year, he had 4.350 million in the bank.

Armavir Province- Ashot Ghahramanyan: In 2010, his revenues were 3.966,
which increased to 4.440 million last year, of which 2.760 million
were wages and the balance pension. At the start of 2011 he had 12.700
million in the bank and that rose to 15.628 million by year’s end. His
wife Arpik had 18.700 million in her bank account at the end of 2011.

Lori Province- Artour Nalbandyan: Before taking this office in July
2011, he was the mayor of Alaverdi. In 2010, he declared 17.739
million in revenues. This jumped to 52.718 million in 2011.

enable chance to Armenian and Turkish experts to discuss and elaborate
possible cooperation projects. Nezver Steysi , HasNa organization
director told in the briefing with Armenpress.

“The organization initiated meetings with the participation of stone
masters, Armenian and Turkish businesswomen groups. In the course
of the project the groups participated in professional discussions,
meetings and training courses, got acquainted in business and stone
innovations. At the end of the trainings possible joint action
timetable was formed.

HasNa does not seek to solve Armenian- Turkish problems, but
assist Armenian and Turkish professional groups to exchange
proficiencies aimed at promoting peace procedure. Regardless the
current disagreements Gyumry and Kars share common heritage uniting
two cities. Yet the borders of the two cities are close reportedly
residential communities suffer from it. In general I consider all the
nations can have some similarities. Our organization enables chances
to the sides sit and talk; reportedly the future projects will be
elaborated by them. This is not for the sake of Americans but for
these nations. We must build peaceful future for our children. This
project is a nice start. We are gratified we managed to unite the
people arrived in here” Nezver Steysi noted.

Gyumry Shirak Competitiveness Center, Gyumry Civil Studies Center,
Diyarbakir, “Kamer” and “Kafkas” cultural organizations had meetings
in U.S. within those days.

TSARUKYAN FREED FROM RUSSIANS

The spokesman for Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of Prosperous Armenia Party,
told the Hraparak Newspaper that Tsarukyan sent out invitations to
all the EU ambassadors and international organizations to attend the
celebration of the 135th anniversary of Ararat Wine Vodka and Brandy
Factory. The diplomatic representatives of France, Great Britain,
Sweden, Bulgaria, Romania, Belarus and Chine will attend the event
together with their spouses.

The notorious ambassador of Russia Kovalenko is not listed among the
ambassadors. The informal Russian explanation was “who goes out for
a drink on Tuesdays?” The official answer was the president of the
Russian Counting Chamber Stepashin is in Armenia and they are busy. On
the other hand, it is known that he was the guest of the head of the
Control Chamber Ishkhan Zakaryan. Apparently, this is a demarche by
the Russian side in response to the meeting of Tsarukyan and Heffern
and the specific attention of the PAP to the West. In answer to the
question whether Oskanian’s issue was brought up during the meeting
with the EU representatives, Iveta Tonoyan said she does not know
the details of the meeting.

ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE DUE IN ARMENIA FOR THE MEETING OF THE U.S.-ARMENIA JOINT ECONOMIC TASKFORCE

The 21st meeting of the U.S.-Armenia Joint Economic Taskforce (USATF)
will take place on October 18, 2012 in Yerevan,Armenia. The U.S.

Department of State, led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Eric
Rubin and Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia Dan
Rosenblum, will lead the U.S. delegation along with representatives
from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Office of the U.S. Trade
Representative, and the U.S. Agency for International Development.

This year also marks the 20th anniversary of U.S.-Armenia relations.

The USATF is an example of the strong and lasting ties between the
two countries. This year’s meeting will focus on promoting trade and
investment, and opportunities for increased energy sector cooperation.

Established in 1999, the USATF meets annually to discuss ways to
deepen economic ties, and provides an open forum to discuss trade
and investment issues.

L’OPPOSITION PREOCCUPEE PAR LA VENTE DU MINISTERE DES AFFAIRES ETRANGERES

Les representants parlementaires des principales forces de l’opposition
d’Armenie ont deplore vendredi la vente pour 51 million de $ d’un
bâtiment historique appartenant au gouvernement au centre d’Erevan.

Le bâtiment qui loge les ministères armeniens des affaires etrangères,
de l’energie et de l’administration locale a ete vendu a une societe
privee appartenant a l’homme d’affaires armeno-argentin Eduardo
Eurnekian. Selon l’accord revelee jeudi par le gouvernement, la societe
doit construire un nouveau bâtiment de bureaux en remplacement pour
septembre 2015.

Le gouvernement payera pour la construction au niveau des recettes
de la vente. Il a refuse de specifier le coût probable du projet
jusqu’ici.

Aghvan Vartanian, un depute de la Federation Revolutionnaire Armenienne
(Dashnaktsutyun), a critique qu’il a appele un manque de transparence
dans cet accord complexe reconnaissant toutefois que le prix de la
vente semblait raisonnable.

Aghvan Vartanian s’est plaint que le gouvernement ait echoue a
expliquer clairement la sagesse de la transaction dans son ensemble.

Il n’a pas rendu public les paramètres de la construction devant venir
ou n’a pas specifie combien seront depenses pour cette construction,
a-t-il dit.

” Clairement, le public, incluant l’Assemblee nationale et ses deputes,
n’est pas informe des details de l’affaire ” a dit Aghvan Vartanianlors
d’une conference de presse. Il a dit que la faction du Dashnaktsutyun
exigera que le comite des affaires economiques du parlement tienne
des auditions sur la question. Les fonctionnaires du gouvernement
devront temoigner dans ces auditions a-t-il ajoute.

Aram Manukian, un depute du Congrès National Armenien (HAK), a dit
qu’il est contre l’affaire par principe. ” A ce jour je n’ai aucun
respect pour le gouvernement ” a-t-il dit aux journalistes. ” Je
voudrais que le bâtiment du gouvernement avec les gens l’occupant soit
[vendu ensuite] “.

” Ces gens n’ont aucun système de valeur ” a-t-il dit. ” Il est
simplement inadmissible de faire une telle chose “.

Galust Sahakian, le chef parlementaire du parti Republicain d’Armenie
(HHK), a ecarte ces objections. ” Nous devons apprendre a avoir
confiance en ce gouvernement ” a-t-il dit.

ZHOGHOVURD: SHIRAK GOVERNOR IMPORTS BOARDS

After former NKR Defense Army Commander Samvel Babayan had disappeared,
Shirak governor Ashot Giziryan took up the business of importing
boards, Zhoghovurd reports.

According to the paper, he imports boards not only from Georgia but
also from Artsakh and has founded a wood processing plant.

Giziryan, however, denied this information to Zhoghovurd.

A century after its establishment, the historical Surp Giragos
Armenian Church in Diyarbakır reopened for worship last year. Now,
the church is set to completely return to its former glory with the
installation of a new bell on Nov 4. The new bell, which weighs 100
kilograms, was produced in Moscow

One of Diyarbakır’s most important churches, Surp (St.) Giragos
Armenian Church, will unveil its new bell at a ceremony early next
month following restoration on the historical house of worship
last year.

“The new bell, which weighs 100 kilograms, was produced in Moscow
and presented as a gift from the Russian Armenian community to the
Surp Giragos Church. It’s already been delivered to Diyarbakır
and presented to the public,” Istanbul-based Canadian artist Raffi
Bedrosyan, who contributed to the restoration of the church, recently
told the Hurriyet Daily News ahead of the Nov. 4 ceremony for the
new bell.

The tower was destroyed by cannon fire in 1915 on the grounds that it
was taller than the minarets of mosques. The new bell has been crafted
in a style similar to the original by Russian Armenians in Moscow.

“This church, the greatest Armenian Church in the Middle East, is
a clear evidence of Armenian influence in Anatolia before 1915 and
now it has become a pilgrimage place for all Armenians from Turkey,
Armenia and the diaspora,” Bedrosyan said.

Church reopened last year The church was used as a command center by
German officers during World War I, and later used as an apparel depot
by the state-owned Sumerbank until 1950. It was finally returned to
the Armenian community following a lengthy legal struggle. The church
reopened for worship last year, a century after its construction.

Bedrosyan also hopes to restore the historical Varagavank Monastery
located in the eastern province of Van. “Both Ankara and Van
agreed to launch the restoration project, but social and natural
obstacles delayed the process. We wish to restore this church with
the cooperative efforts of both Turkish and Armenian experts,”
Bedrosyan said.
