Georgia

After the war with Russia in 2008 and the global economic crisis, the
Georgian economy began its recovery in 2009. According to official
data, Georgia’s economy grew 6.3% in 2010. In 2011, economic growth
reached 7%.

In Armenia, the global crisis of 2008-2009 also influenced economic
growth in the country. In 2010, after recovering from the economic
collapse, Armenia’s economy growth reached to 2.2%. In 2011 it
reached 4.7%.

Azerbaijan’s economy has enjoyed very stable growth for the last
several years. Before the economic crisis, Azeri economic growth
reached 34.5% in 2006 and 25% in 2007. Even in 2009, the country
saw growth of 9.3%, though in 2010, growth declined to 5%. Most
surprisingly, in 2011, economic growth in Azerbaijan saw 0% growth.

However, this does not mean much for Azerbaijan which has huge reserves
of oil and gas.

Armenian Church Project On El Camino Real To Be Reviewed

ARMENIAN CHURCH PROJECT ON EL CAMINO REAL TO BE REVIEWED

Del Mar Times
Nov 1 2012

St. John Garabed Church, an Armenian church planned for El Camino Real,
will be reviewed by the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board~Rs
regional issues subcommmitee meeting on Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m. at the
Carmel Valley Library.

The project came before the planning board for an update at its
Oct. 25 meeting.

The multi-phase project includes a 350-seat church, a 500-seat
multi-purpose hall, a cultural and education center and a youth
center in a ~Svillage-like~T cluster of buildings. At its highest
the church will be 93 feet tall, the other two buildings will be 30
and 40 feet tall.

~SWe weren~Rt able to achieve the sacred proportions of Armenian
church architecture, where the height is greater than the width,
because of the setting,~T said Dennis Hyndman, the architect for
the project. ~SWe feel we~Rve done a good job changing the project
but maintaining the traditional architecture that is important to
Armenian people~EHopefully this project will enhance the community
of Carmel Valley.~T

According to Marcela Escobar-Eck, the land use planner for the site,
the church has focused its development to a mesa top on the land to
minimize the impact on natural resources on the site. The hope is to
restore the surrounding open space area, benefit the wildlife corridor
and enlarge the wetlands area.

The access drive has proven to be the biggest challenges for the
site, Escobar-Eck said. They tried to negotiate an easement using
the neighboring Evangelican Formosan Church~Rs property but the
church was unwilling to grant the easement. The access point will
now be a driveway near the toe of the slope of the property. A short
deceleration lane will be added for the entrance to the church and
a short acceleration lane will be added for the right-only exit.

Teghout CJSC has disseminated a statement concerning the photos
published on behalf of the Civil Initiative for Protection of Teghout.

The information and public relations department of Vallex Group reports
that the photos demonstrate that the subsoil water is flowing into
the Shnogh River from one of the crushing plants. In this connection,
Teghout CJSC states that it is carrying out a water intake on the River
Shnogh in an envisaged volume in line with an authorized structure’s
permit. No dangerous chemical elements are used in this process or
mixed with the water.

For mechanical cleaning of the subsoil water, settling hoppers have
been built in this plant, where the water is to be cleaned from sand
and soil. The photos were made when the settling hoppers did not
operate for technical reasons, and the sand and soil were penetrating
into the river. The leadership of Teghout CJSC was informed of that and
took prompt steps even before the publication of the photos. At the
same time, Teghout CJSC expresses its willingness for a constructive
dialogue and cooperation on environmental issues with any organization
and individuals. To note, Vallex Group was founded in 1998. It unites
20 subsidiaries. The ore reserves in the Teghout deposit make up
450 mln tons, copper reserves – 1.6 mln tons. Russian citizen Valery
Mejlumyan owns 100% of shares of Armenian Copper Programme CJSC.

Ed. Sharmazanov: Azerbaijan Cannot Decide Artsakh Nation’s Destiny

ED. SHARMAZANOV: AZERBAIJAN CANNOT DECIDE ARTSAKH NATION’S DESTINY

A day before Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced during the
opening of the monument of Azerbaijani singer Bulbul that Azerbaijan
will not let Armenia have the second state and Bulbul’s monument will
be situated in Shushi one day as well.

Speaker of the Armenian Republican Party, vice chairman of Armenian
Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov spread an announcement where he answered
to Azerbaijani President.

“Azerbaijani leader continues his range of announcements which has no
connection with the reality. I consider it is worthy to underline that
it is not Azerbaijan’s affair to let Artsakh nation lead its destiny.

Artsakh nation gained that right both in the war field and confirmed
it by the referendum.”

Mr. Sharmazanov added that Azerbaijan can still situate Bulbul’s
monument in Shushi. “Azerbaijan can recognize NKR independence,
establish diplomatic relations with Artsak, open an embassy and then
put Bulbul’s monument in the embassy’s building”.

“we-will-never-allow-the-establishment-of-a-second-armenian-state”.html

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during a ceremony unveiling a
statute of Azerbaijani opera singer in Baku, remarked that, “I am
sure that Azerbaijan will soon restore its territorial integrity.”

Aliyev made the remark at a ceremony unveiling a statute of the singer
Bulbul, a People’s Artsist of the USSR, who was born in Shoushi.

The Azerbaijani president, in his address, noted that, “Shusha has
been under Armenian occupation for twenty years.”

Aliyev continued the Bulbul reference by saying: “At the same time
we have undergone cultural genocide. Our religious, historical and
cultural monuments were destroyed. The bust of Bulbul was riddled
with Armenian bullets. Bulbul’s house in Shusha was destroyed.”

Azerbaijan’s president concluded by saying that: “We will never allow
a second Armenian state being established on historical Azerbaijani
lands, and we will restore our territorial integrity absolutely. The
monument of Bulbul will again be erected in Shusha. I am confident
that we will participate in the opening of this monument, and that
the national flag of Azerbaijan will wave in Khankendi and Shusha”.

Armenian Nationalists Protest Satanist’s Activities

ARMENIAN NATIONALISTS PROTEST SATANIST’S ACTIVITIES

tert.am
01.11.12

Facebook has become a platform for offending and defaming the Armenian
Apostolic Church, Armenian nationalists have complained.

At a news conference on Thursday, Director of the Armenian Church
Youth Association Gevorg Lazarian and a person in charge for the
organization’s religious affairs, Archimandrite Yeghishe Avetisyan,
as well as a co-chair of the One Nation NGO, Gor Tamazyan, urged for
closing a Facebook page created by Bayandur Poghosyan, considering
him a Satanist.

“Perhaps everybody is well aware of our activities. They are
targeted against the religious sects; we also condemn homosexualism
and standards encouraging free manners. At the same time, we fight
pro-Western and pro-American political forces on the political arena,”
Tamazyan said, adding that their organization adheres to the principles
preached by Garegin Nzhdeh, a 19th-20th century Armenian statesman,
political thinker and a patriot.

The group said that Poghosyan has characterized their activities as
those of a killer, calling them fascists and racists.

Tamazyan added that the profile has another administrator, Sevak
Kirakosyan, who is affiliated with the gay and lesbian rights center
Pink.

“The post was left by Bayandur, but the page does not deny anything
or make a public apology,” he said.

One Nation conducts an active advocacy by disseminating leaflets,
as well as proposing legal initiatives. It has called for declaring
Echmiadzin a religious city state.
