They Have to Pass 7 Kilometers on Foot to Reach the Capital

They Have to Pass 7 Kilometers on Foot to Reach the Capital

Thursday, 15 November 2012 17:28

Kherkhan village of Martouni region is one of the numerous villages of
the Republic where the number of pupils is nearly equal to the number
of teachers at school; the 9-year basic school of the village has 16
learners and 11 teachers.

As the villagers say, if the current tendency continues the number of
the teachers will soon exceed that of the learners, the reason for
this is known to everyone: the number of the young people in the
village is gradually decreasing. Many of them find work in other
communities, mostly in the capital and thus, have to leave the
village.

A 55-year-old villager of Kherkhan, who did not want to introduce
herself, says that two of his sons left the village together with
their families and the younger son who has been demobilized recently
is going to follow his elder brothers.

The village has 113 inhabitants whose main occupation is agriculture
and cattle breeding. There are a lot of problems in Kherkhan such as
the poor state of the roads, the lack of the water distribution system
and, what is the most important thing, the lack of the transport to
the capital. To reach the Stepanakert-Sos highway the inhabitants of
Kherkhan have to pass 3.5 kilometres on foot in order to get on the
buses serving the neighbouring villages. On their way back they again
have to pass the way on foot.

One of the aged inhabitants of the village, Genofia, is also anxious
about the problem of transport. She says that the reason for the
migration may possibly be the unbearably poor state of the roads to
the village which has not been improved for many years.

This is the way the inhabitants of Kherkhan live today. Some of them
hope that something will change for the better while the others have
been reconciled with the present situation and as they say, `This is
our native land which we can never leave’.

Alexander Arzumanyan should resign office

Alexander Arzumanyan should resign office

03:39 PM | NOVEMBER 16, 2012 | POLITICS

Alexander Arzumanyan should resign as Deputy Chairman of National
Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, says Ruben Hakobyan,
Head of the opposition Heritage faction.

He says Mr Arzumanyan has already announced that he will no longer
represent the Heritage party in parliament or bear responsibility for
the faction’s activity.

“It means we can nominate new candidates in committees and we are
going to do it in the nearest future,” said Mr Hakobyan.

Gagik Tsarukyan should make the statement on behalf of his party

“Representatives of the Heritage party have met with Prosperous
Armenia Party (BHK). We shall summarize the results of the meeting in
the upcoming days,” Ruben Hakobyan said on Friday.

The head of the Heritage faction says his party has two approaches
concerning the political consultations: first they welcome BHK’s
decision that the country should switch to the parliamentary system of
government. Second, to make BHK’s approach more convincing for other
political forces, Heritage thinks that the statement should be made
personally by BHK leader Gagik Tsarukyan.
“BHK officially invited us to a meeting and we accepted it. All other
issues connected with the statement, status and future steps will be
discussed at the forthcoming meeting of the political council,” he
said.

ANC holds a procession for the support of imprisoned ANC

Armenian National Congress holds a procession for the support of
imprisoned ANC activists

arminfo Saturday, November 17, 17:29

The Armenian National Congress (ANC) held a procession for the
support of imprisoned ANC activists on November 17.

The procession started near the Khnko-Aper Library in Yerevan. The
protesters made their way along Sayat Nova Street and Teryan Street
towards Republic Square.

They demanded releasing the ANC activists immediately. Head of the ANC
Parliamentary Faction Levon Zurabyan said that Armenian people will
not endure the anti-democratic “tricks” of the incumbent ruling
regime. He thinks that the authorities’ behavior demonstrates that it
is senseless to conduct any negotiations with them.

The law-enforcers did not try to disturb the protest action; they only
urged the protesters not to disturb the traffic.

To note, on July 20 the court of general jurisdiction of Kentron and
Nork-Marash administrative communities of Yerevan sentenced the ANC
young activists: Tigran Arakelyan to 6 years in prison, Artak
Karapetyan – to thee years in prison, Sargis Gevorgyan and David
Kiramijyan – to 2 years in prison. Recognizance not to leave is the
measure of restraint for Artak Karapetyan, Sargis Gevorgyan and David
Kiramijyan before the verdict of the superior court instance. Tigran
Arakelyan has been in prison for over a year. Tigran Arakelyan and
Artak Karapetyan are charged with hooliganism and violence against
officials. The Court of Appeal has recently left unchanged the
verdict of the court of general jurisdiction.

BAKU: Armenian lobby is our enermy-President

Armenian lobby is our enermy-President

Text size: [image: bigger] [image: smaller]

Ilham Aliyev
On 16 November, the Buta palace hosted a reception on the occasion of the
20th anniversary of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP).

The event was attended by Azerbaijani President Chairman of the New
Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva.

The president touched upon the activity of the Armenian lobby and
Islamophobia.
“I have repeatedly said and I want to repeat it in open that Armenian lobby
is our enemy. Because Armenia, as a country, is of no importance. In fact,
it is a colony, an outpost, the territory governed from abroad which was
artificially created in ancient Azerbaijani lands. Armenian lobby is our
main enemy and we are the main enemy for them. In fact, the source of our
enmity with them is their enmity with us. Second is anti-Azerbaijani
center, structures and circles infected with Islamophobia. Unfortunately,
their number is growing all the time.

The growth in their number was manifested during the elections held in some
countries. The results of elections make the growth of the rating of
Islamophobia forces clear. The young, dynamically developing, independent
and modern Muslim country- Azerbaijan has become a problem for them since
it does not fit their stereotypes. Their stereotypes seek to show Muslims
in the world as a backward nation, people.
We already have a strong state-independent Azerbaijani state. We have an
exact concept, the development program. As a result of this program
Azerbaijan will add to the list of developed states”.

Jorge Orrico doesn’t exclude the possibility of lifting the visa
regime between Armenia and Uruguay

13:47, 17 November, 2012

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 17 ARMENPRESS: Yet there are no discussions on the
lifting of vise regime between Armenia and Uruguay the Chairman of
Uruguay House of Representatives Jorge Orrico doesn’t exclude its
possibility. Armenpress reports that Orrico has highlighted that
Uruguayan Minister of Tourism is of Armenian descent. `I believe that
it won’t be difficult to negotiate with him on this suggestion’
jokingly said the Chairman of Uruguay House of Representatives.

Jorge Orrico reminded that everybody loves his country therefore it
would be great if Armenians had a possibility to be closer to Uruguay.

`There you will not be able to find old stories, but you will find
coastal areas and meet friendly people’ Orrico has noted, adding that
as a state Uruguay is 180 years old and when one is talking about the
centuries long Armenian history he is feeling dizzy.

Jorge Orrico has also joked on Armenian churches which are considered
to be `new’ or `young’ when they are already 190 years old.

Delegation of Uruguay House of Representatives headed by its Chairman
Jorge Orrico arrived in Armenia on November 12 on the invitation of NA
president Hovik Abrahamyan. The Chairman of Uruguay Parliament had
meetings with NA president Hovik Abrahamyan, Armenian Prime Minister
Tigran Sargsyan, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and with
the members of Armenia-Uruguay parliamentary friendly group. In the
framework of their visit to Armenia they have also visited Artsakh and
had meeting with NKR President Bako Sahakyan and other high rank
figures.

Azeri Activity

Azeri Activity

Friday, November 16th, 2012

BY GAREN YEGPARIAN

With all the election related activity, my focus had gotten directed
away from Turkic activities, but it’s time to remedy that.

You probably aren’t surprised by the fact that Azerbaijan has violated
the ceasefire regime 6000 times over just the first five months of
2012. That’s after registering a 2100% (no decimal point error!)
increase in such violations from 2006 to 2011. And, more and more of
those breaches have been along the Republic of Armenia’s borders, not
just the Nagorno Gharapagh Republic’s.

You probably aren’t surprised by the fact that Azerbaijan has refused
to withdraw its snipers from the borders, leading to an ongoing series
of untimely deaths. Plus, they are putting their kids through sniper
training, with anyone over 15 being eligible.

You probably aren’t surprised by the fact that Azerbaijan has
continued its hatemongering against anything Armenian as evidenced by
the country’s president’s declaration that `our main enemies are
Armenians of the world’, the hero’s welcome received by the axe
murderer of a sleeping Armenian, the threats to shoot down CIVILIAN
aircraft flying into Sdepanagerd, and the multibillion dollar spending
spree on military hardware – all directed against Armenia. Who else
would they use it against? Iran? Russia?

You probably aren’t surprised by the fact that Azerbaijan has secured
a puff-piece in Forbes, the noted business magazine, written by one
Hilary Kramer who is goo-goo-eyed over her impending exposure to
`cuisine and music’ at a gala dinner hosted by the Azerbaijan America
Alliance (AAA). She writes fawningly about the oil-money fueled
`development’ in the country and how underappreciated an ally poor old
Azerbaijan is! Not a word about the country’s horrible human rights
record, warmongering, and genocidal activities. This is what scads of
money buys for a regime that is as debased as Azerbaijan’s.

But…

You probably will be surprised that U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan,
Mornigstar, was denied access to the site in Julfa where Azerbaijan
destroyed a centuries old cemetery. What’s really insufferable is that
the best this representative of the U.S. could muster, by way of a
reaction in an embassy press release, is, `I regret that the
authorities, citing security reasons, made it impossible for me to
visit the site and personally see what is there’. How pathetic is
that? Contact the State Department and tell them to instruct their
ambassador to develop a spine!

You probably will be surprised that at a regular U.S. state Department
briefing, responding to a question about the threats against civilian
aviation (regarding flights into/out of the new Sdepanagerd airport),
the spokesperson said `… the United States urges the parties to find a
diplomatic solution to issues relating to the operation of the
airport…’ Wow, really, what a brilliant suggestion, who would have
ever thought of such a thing? Innocent lives are being threatened by a
government that canonizes axe murderers, and all we get is this lame
platitude.

You probably will be surprised that three members of the U.S. House of
Representatives – Rep. Hultgren (R-IL), Rep. Poe (R-TX), and Rep. Green
(D-TX) – have received a total of twenty contacts from foreign agents
or their hired representatives (in this case, mostly of Azerbaijan).
This kind of interaction must be reported by law, but there doesn’t
seem to be much substance since the typical report, at least in the
compilation I saw, is quite opaque. Here’s a sample: `Khayal
Sharif-zadeh from Azerbaijan America Alliance Corporation contacted
Luke Murry from Representative Poe’s office on behalf of the
government of Azerbaijan regarding Update on the Alliance’s Progress’.
This is probably the most worrisome phenomenon. Something may be
brewing, especially with the kind of money that Azeri and Turkish
outfits and agents are spending on their propaganda efforts. On the
other hand, this reveals that AAA is nothing more than a front for the
government of Azerbaijan. Also interesting is that one of the contacts
made was by none other than our old nemesis, former Speaker of the
House, Dennis Hastert, regarding Turkey.

It’s time to start pushing back. If you live in the congressional
districts of any of the three people named above, call them, visit
them, write them. Make sure they know you’re watching. That has a very
sobering effect on any elected official who wants to keep their seat!
It’s up to us as citizens to counteract the massive, money- and lies-
based anti-Armenian campaign of Ilham Aliyev and what is laughably
referred to as the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Restored churches in Western Armenia no longer have Armenian archite

Restored churches in Western Armenia no longer have Armenian architecture

11:05, 17 November, 2012

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS: Armenian monasteries and churches
that are located in the northern region of Artsakh, on Azerbaijan
borders, have the same fate as Armenian churches and monuments in
Nakhichevan, which means have been ruined. As specialist on monuments
Samvel Karapetyan noted in the interview with Armenpress losing
Armenian historical territories we are paying with our culture. `Those
who have no idea of Armenian historical monuments and churches in
Azerbaijan are carrying out an activity, restoring and renovating
their appearance. If a person who has no experience in renovation and
reconstruction of churches and monuments doesn’t want to cooperate
with skilled professionals based on some political intolerance and
discrimination so automatically the result cannot be good from the
scientific aspect and cannot correspond to restoration norms’
Karapetyan noted.

According to Samvel Karapetyan the situation of historical monuments
in Western Armenia is now different, in case 50 60 years ago during
the Soviet Union Armenian monuments were being destroyed now vice
versa. Therefore everything doesn’t run so smooth. For example, in
2007 Armenian Church was being reconstructed, but the roof was
completely changed. The authorities didn’t deny that the church was
Armenian, but in a result of some mistakes now it doesn’t have
Armenian architecture. He also assured that Armenian specialists would
restore the churches for free in case of being invited. Karapetyan
also highlighted that there were some cases when the renovation of the
churches was intentionally left unfinished.
