SERZH SARGSYAN UNDERWENT SURGERY IN FRANCE: V. SEDRAKYAN

13:57 – 21.01.2013

“I can’t say what is president Sargsyan afraid of, maybe ghosts of
Vazgen Sargsyan, Khoren Khorkhoruni, Artsrun Margaryan and some of
his military friends visit him, because of whom he is who he is today
and who were killed during the period he was the head of NSS. He can
be afraid of other ten people who were killed so that he can become
president. He has a lot to be afraid of as he has walked a path of
heroism by interrupted lives and I’m the last on his list of fear”,
said Epos expert, presidential candidate Vardan Sedrakyan during the
press conference.

Presidential candidate made Serzh Sargsyan’s health condition an
issue as well.

“The bunch of sicknesses he has in his small body is an evidence of his
fears. He underwent a surgery in France just before the campaign was
about to take off. Ask him what was he operating”, announced Sedrakyan.

To Yerkir.am’s observation that health conditions should not be an
issue of discussion, he noted that they have put aside moral norms
first.

“When they try to interfere in one’s private life, let them remember
that they have a life on their own as well”, said he.

During today’s press conference he talked about heroic actions of
president’s nephew, Prime minister, Qocharyan and Bagratyan.

“Bagratyan used to say that he had drunk 4700 battles of Cognac in
a year. Count how much spirit that is. I’m telling you, they were
forced to put their candidacy”, announced he.

By the way, he assured that he does not drink at all.

Armenian NGOs protest against relocation of the UN European regional
office in Turkey

arminfo
Saturday, January 19, 13:19

15 Armenian NGOs have expressed their protest against the planned
relocation of the UN European office in Istanbul. The relevant letter
addressed to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Resident
Representative of UNDP in Armenia Patrice Coeur-Bizot has been passed
to the Yerevan Office of the UN. In particular, the Association “For
Sustainable Human Development”, Center for Civil Society Development,
Alternative Research Center and other organizations signed the letter.

Head of the Association “For Sustainable Human Development” Karine
Danielyan said at the Jan 19 press conference that it is illogical,
unethical and unreasonable to trust the regional office to Turkey. She
pointed out that Turkey denies its privity to the Armenian Genocide
1915, which was condemned by a number of UN member states. In this
context, Danielyan Turkey uses the forthcoming relocation of the
European office in Istanbul for its own interests in relation to the
upcoming centenary of the Genocide.

She added that Turkey has continued the blockade of Armenia for over
20 years, and this has an extremely bad impact on the republic’s
economy. Danielyan stressed that Turkey has no diplomatic relations
with some countries of the region, including countries within the
jurisdiction of the UNDP regional office in Bratislava. “This fact
will be an essential obstacle for participation of Armenian
delegations and NGOs in the UNDP’s activity”, she said.

Danielyan said that no final decision on relocation of the European
office in Istanbul has been taken yet, though Turkey has promised to
cover most part of the costs. “We hope that the UN will remain
committed to its principles and will take into account the obstacles
and risks we have mentioned”, she said.

Turkish upper circles were well aware of the initiative of Dink’s murder

13:35, 19 January, 2013

YEREVAN, JANUARY 19, ARMENPRESS: Turkish press presents the
assassination of prominent Armenian journalist from Istanbul, chief
editor of `Agos’ weekly Hrant Dink in a light of nationalist action
which has nothing to do with the state. Armenpress reports, candidate
for historical sciences Gevorg Melkonyan has noted during January 19
interview with journalist that Turkish upper circles were well aware
of the initiative of Dink’s murder.

`Dink’s murder was the logical continuation of Armenian Genocide,
therefor I have to disappoint, because this murder is year after year
more spoken about all over the world. I am sure that everybody
understand that it was Turkish government which tried to keep Dink
silent,’ Melkonyan said, noting that the murderer was only 17 years
old and wasn’t able to make such a serious decision all by himself.

He has assured that the majority of Turkish society knows about the
fact of Armenian Genocide; it is not accidental that the majority of
Turkish society rallied after Hrant Dink’s murder demanding its
government to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Candidate for historical sciences noted that Turkey was an
unpredictable state which had a serious need for reforms.

6 years have passed after the assassination of prominent Armenian
journalist from Istanbul, chief editor of `Agos’ weekly Hrant Dink.
Hrant Dink was shot dead in Shishli district of Istanbul on January
19, 2007. After leaving the murder shouted `giaour’ giving basis for
suspicion that the murder was committed based on nationalist hatred.
Dink was one of those intellectuals, famous for their fearless
speeches being numerously persecuted for that.
