Iran calls for increase of trade with Armenia to $1 billion

Tabriz, East Azarbaijan, Feb 2, IRNA — East Azerbaijan Province
Governor General, Ahmad Alirezabeigi declared the trade volume between
Yerevan and Tehran ‘will’ hit $1 billion.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the local officials of Armenia’s

Alirezabeigi said.

The Iranian provincial official stressed development of relations
between the two countries in all fields, including the fields of
agriculture, industry, transportation and energy.

thanked Iran’s technical helps and called Iranian helps very important
in his country’s development process, noting that Yerevan is committed
to expand ties with Islamic Republic.

and economy.

In December 2011, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his
Armenian counterpart pledged to further expand ‘high-level relations’

ARMENIA’S BUSINESS REPUTATION DAMAGED WITH THE ATTEMPTS TO HINDER CARREFOUR’S ENTRANCE TO ARMENIA – ARMEN MARTIROSYAN

Armenia’s business reputation is being damaged with the attempts to
hinder the entrance of the Carrefour French hypermarket to Armenia,
deputy leader of Heritage party Armen Martirosyan said, speaking
to Tert.am.

Asked to comment on the complaints of representatives of small and
medium-sized business representatives over the entrance of Carrefour to
Armenia, Martirosyan said, “Armenia’s economic system is monopolized
and like in the other cases now as well we are facing the issue of
decline of our reputation in the international arena.”

He said the situation with Carrefour is the same like in the case of
other international brands.

Asked whether the entrance of the French company to Armenia will
create impediments for the Armenian producers, Martirosyan said he
does not see such an issue.

“As far as Carrefour imports products the monopolies will suffer cracks
as they will be forced to set competitive prices,” Martirosyan said.

According to media outlets, a number of small and medium-sized
businessmen are going to conduct a protest rally against Carrefour’s
entrance being afraid that it will swallow the market and their
products will not be sold.
