PARUYR HAYRIKIAN CRITIQUE DE NOUVEAU LA POLICE

Les autorites de police ont jusqu’ici echoue a resoudre la tentative de
meurtre le 31 janvier contre Paruyr Hayrikian malgre l’arrestation de
trois hommes a declare l’avocat de l’ex-candidate a la presidentielle.

Levon Baghdasarian a declare que son client estime que Vartan
Sedrakian, un autre candidat a la presidence, et les deux autres
suspects avaient seulement ete ” une infime partie de ce crime
monstrueux “. Paruyr Hayrikian exige donc que les enqueteurs du Service
National de la Securite (NSS) ” identifie le cerveau reel dans un
delai raisonnable, “a-t-il declare lors d’une conference de presse.

Vartan Sedrakian a ete arrete le 5 mars pour avoir organise la
tentative de meurtre contre Hayrikian ce qu’il nie fermement. Le
soi-disant chercheur avait predit son arrestation une semaine avant
l’election presidentielle du 18 fevrier. Il avait declare que les
autorites vont exploiter le fait qu’il connaît personnellement les
deux hommes accuses d’avoir tire et blesse Hayrikian.

Le NSS dit que les deux suspects, Khachatur Poghosian et Samvel
Harutiunian, ont avoue les tirs.

Selon Levon Baghdassarian, Paruyr Hayrikian estime qu’aucun des trois
hommes arretes ne seraient le principal organisateur de la fusillade.

Interroge pour savoir sur qui pèsent les soupcons de l’ancien candidat
son avocat a dit : ” Monsieur Hayrikian peut avoir de nombreuses
theories. Mais depuis qu’une enquete est en cours, nous voulons
simplement que les enqueteurs identifient le cerveau reel dans un
delai raisonnable “.

Le NSS a refuse de commenter cette demande affirmant seulement au
service armenien de RFE / RL (Azatutyun.am) que l’enquete n’est pas
encore terminee.

Selon la Commission electorale centrale, vartan Sedrakian a recueilli
0,42 pour cent des voix, contre 1,23 pour cent pour Hayrikian.

UNE EXCUSE A LA TURQUIE DU PEUPLE ISRAELIEN

Lettre ouverte du Professeur Steven Plaut

Cher Monsieur le Premier Ministre :

Au nom du peuple Israelien, je tiens a vous presenter mes excuses pour
la lâchete et la stupidite insondable du Premier Ministre d’Israël.

Comme vous le savez, ce week-end, Benjamin Netanyahu, vous a envoye
des ” excuses ” parce qu’Israël s’est defendu contre les terroristes
genocidaires qui ont attaque des soldats israeliens, qui eux n’etaient
armes qu’avec des pistolets a peinture quand ils ont aborde le
navire terroriste de la ” flottille “, que vous nous avez envoye pour
contester le blocus naval israelien de l’enclave du Hamas a Gaza.

Netanyahu ne parlait que pour lui-meme quand il s’est excuse auprès
de vous, car Israël se defend, et defend son peuple seulement deux
generations après l’Holocauste. Il ne represente personne dans ce
pays quand il s’agit de ces ” excuses “. Personne d’autre dans le
pays, a l’exception de certains gauchistes anti-israeliens radicaux
de milieu universitaire, accepte qu’Israël vous presente des excuses
pour avoir defendu ses habitants.

En fait, au nom de tous les VRAIS Israeliens, je voudrais vous
presenter mes excuses pour le fait que seulement neuf terroristes ont
ete tues par les troupes israeliennes sur le navire de la flottille
alors que des soldats israeliens ont ete sauvagement attaques par des
terroristes ayant la nationalite turcs et autres. Je tiens a m’excuser
pour le fait que les Israeliens n’ont pas torpille et coule les navires
terroristes qui tentaient de briser le blocus et apporter ainsi de
l’aide au Nazis du Hamas. Je tiens a m’excuser pour le fait qu’Israël
ait un Premier ministre qui est tellement desempare, insensible,
et detache de l’histoire juive qu’il envisagerait d’acheter quelques
instants de calme diplomatique avec un agresseur musulman en faisant
honte a tout son pays avec des ” excuses ” a la Turquie en faisant
l’un des actes les plus honteux commis par un Juif dans l’histoire,
et tout cela a quelques heures seulement avant la fete juive de la
liberation nationale, Pessah.

Au-dela de cela, je ne pense pas qu’Israël doit des excuses pour
ne pas avoir fait beaucoup plus pour attirer l’attention du monde
entier sur l’occupation illegale et la destruction par la Turquie
d’un bijou comme Chypre, de la ville de Famagouste. Israël n’as
rien dit quand la Turquie a conquis 40% de Chypre et a transfere des
dizaines de milliers de colons illegaux, de sa propre population, dans
l’île. Pour ce silence je m’excuse. Et puisque vous avez passe tant
de temps ces dernières annees a denoncer Israël en tant qu’occupant,
je pense qu’Israël doit des excuses au monde pour ne pas avoir aide
a mettre fin a l’occupation illegale turque de la grande capitale de
la Grèce antique Constantinople, aujourd’hui sous occupation illegale
sarrasine qui a continue pendant beaucoup trop longtemps. Il est grand
temps que Constantinople soit retourne a ses veritable heritiers et
ses proprietaires legaux, le peuple grec. Cela fait moins de cent
ans que cette ville, en plus de Smyrne et d’autres villes d’origine
grecque ont ete pratiquement liberees par les Grecs si ce n’etait
pour etre finalement bloquees par les agresseurs militaires turcs :
les meurtriers en masse des Armeniens.

Donc, Monsieur le Premier Ministre, comme vous le voyez, je crains
que les Israeliens ne doivent au monde quelques excuses.

LES JUSTIFICATIONS DE LA POLICE SUR L’AGRESSION SQUARE DE LA LIBERTE

La police armenienne a fait etat de l’arrestation d’une personne
qui aurait tente d’attaquer Raffi Hovannisian sur la place centrale
d’Erevan la semaine dernière suite a des accusations de camp du chef
de l’opposition denoncant son laxisme dans cette affaire.

Hovannisian est en grève de la faim depuis le 10 mars dans le square
de la liberte. Entoure de membres de la famille, des militants et
des sympathisants il passe la plupart de son temps assis sur un banc
public, et va de temps en temps prendre une pause dans une tente de
fortune mise en place a côte de lui. Il assiste egalement a divers
evenements mis en scène par des militants pour lui remonter le moral
et soutenir son mouvement de protestation.

Hovannisian assistait a l’un de ces evenements, un concert de musique
folk, samedi soir, quand une personne s’est precipitee vers lui en
criant son intention de le tuer.

Le siège de l’ex-candidat a publie une declaration accusant les deux
douzaines de policiers presents sur la place de ne pas avoir reagi
a cet attaque en declarant que le ” meurtrier potentiel ” avait ete
arrete par les citoyens ordinaires.

“Nous exprimons notre profonde deception envers la police armenienne,
qui n’a pas reussi a empecher l’agression sur Raffi Hovannisian
au moment où il le fallait et n’a pas non plus assure la securite
des citoyens dans le square de la Liberte “, a declare le siège
d’Hovannisian.

Dans un rapport publie lundi le service de Presse de la police a
declare que les agents en poste Square de la Liberte ont arrete un
homme qui avait tente de se frayer un chemin vers Hovannisian en ”
lancacant des obscenites et des insultes “.

Le rapport a identifie l’homme. Il est âge de 53 ans et se nommerait
Ghazar .. Il n’a pas revele d’autres details de l’incident.

VAHAGN CHAKHALYAN RESPONDS TO SAAKASHVILI

Vahagn Chakhalyan, a Javakhk-based Armenian activist, has issued
a statement referring to Georgian President of Georgia Mikheil
Saakashvili’s recent announcement in which he condemned Chakhalyan’s
release.

“Saakashvili’s accusations in my address prove once again that
my imprisonment was politically motivated and I was arrested for
fighting for the protection of the rights of the Armenian population
of Georgia. Saakashvili again proved that he jailed me for voicing
about failure of the country to implement the assumed international
commitments on ethnic minorities and silence the Javakhk Armenians.

Spreading lies and misinformation about me Saakashvili is attempting
to conceal the simple fact that as in many other domestic and foreign
issues, his political course has failed in this issue as well.

Convicting me with false charges, prosecuting other Javakhk-Armenian
activists had the reverse effect – they helped to draw the attention
of the international community on the issues of Javakhk Armenians.

Though my release was the demonstration of a good will of Georgia’s
new authorities, it was also agreed with the calls of the Javakhk
residents and pressure of the international community, Chakhalyan
said adding that Saakashvili’s announcement will be forwarded as
additional evidence to the European Court of Human Rights which is
presently discussing Chakhalyan’s appeal.

This week in 1988, Soviet troops and helicopters were sent into
the Armenian capital of Yerevan to enforce Moscow’s March 24 ban
on demonstrations. Beginning in February, more than a million
Armenians had engaged in strikes and demonstrations to demand that
the Nagorno-Karabakh region become a part of Soviet Armenia. The
region was administered by Azerbaijan even though 85 percent of its
population was ethnic Armenian.

Massacres of Armenians by Muslim Azerbaijanis followed the protests,
indicating the re-emergence of longstanding national-ethnic divisions,
which six decades under Stalinist rule had been incapable of solving.

Within Nagorno-Karabakh the Armenian majority faced oppression. The
administration of the region, dominated by Azerbaijani Stalinists,
meant schools and access to broadcast networks weren’t in their
native language.

The general economic crisis within the Soviet Union exacerbated
the conflicts, as promises of improvements made by Moscow failed to
materialize. The ruling bureaucracy in Azerbaijan admitted that in
1987 there were 250,000 unemployed.

The entry of Soviet troops into Armenia was a manifestation of the
deepening crisis in the Soviet Union and its inability to provide
economic solutions for the working masses of all ethnic and linguistic
groups. It heralded the beginning of the breakup of the USSR and the
emergence of bloody nationalist conflicts in the region.

GREEN PARTY LEADER FEARS THIRD FORCES CAN MAKE PROVOCATIONS

There is no visual tension in the political arena, but the authorities
are concerned about how to regulate the current situation, leader of
the Green Party of Armenia, member of the former Armenian National
Congress (ANC) opposition alliance Armenak Dovlatyan told a news
conference in Yerevan.

According to him, if the presidential elections had not been rigged,
Heritage leader Raffi Hovannisian “would have unequivocally won.”

The opposition, along with Heritage party, was unable to carry out
its tasks with the help of proxies, Dovlatyan said.

The ball is now in Raffi Hovannisian’s court, the Green Party leader
noted, and the further developments are to a large extent dependent
on the decision the Heritage leader will make.

Also, Dovlatyan voiced concern that third forces can make use of the
current situation and make a provocation.

THEATRE FAILS TO IMPLEMENT ITS MISSION TODAY

March 27 is International Day of Theatre. Speaking on this occasion,
Armenia’s honorary artist Yervand Manaryan said that he is not
satisfied with situation in the theatre as today it does not implement
its main mission.

“Though there are quite good works in our theatres, the situation in
aesthetic regard is quite good, the theatre does not implement its
main mission,” he said.

Manaryan stressed that for many years the theatre preserved its role
staying committed to its mission. He said that during the soviet
years there was a certain diversion, we had wonderful actors but the
strange thing is that having it all, the theatre failed to implement
its mission well.

“After the independence the theatre should have managed to straight
its back but it did not happen. Currently our theater has quite high
aesthetic level but people are not standing in lines all night long
anymore,” the actor said.

Manaryan said the people must demand, if there are no queues for
tickets it means there is no demand. Theatre comes to solve issues
and it should be able to guide the public.

“PARAJANOV – LOVER OF BEAUTY” MOVIE INTRODUCED IN 3 NOMINATIONS IN CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

YEREVAN, MARCH 26, ARMENPRESS. “Parajanov – Lover of Beauty”
full-length movie has already been introduced in 3 nominations
of Cannes Film Festival. The producers of the movie also received
invitation to discuss the issue of participation in Group A film
festivals, including Venice, San Sebastian, Tokyo, Toronto, Montreal,
Sao Paolo, and many others. Ukraine, France, Georgia, and Armenia
jointly shot the movie.

Filmmaker and actor Serge Avedikian informed “Armenpress” that the
decision regarding the acceptance of the movie in the festival will
be announced on April 14-18.

Among other things the filmmaker noted: “In case of movie’s acceptance
in the Cannes Film Festival the movie will be premiered in Yerevan. If
not we shall wait until it is included in the Locarno festival or
any other film festival and then display it in Yerevan.”

The idea of shooting a movie dedicated to the last 20 years of the
gifted artist belongs to Ukrainian producer and filmmaker Olena
Fetisova, who became the screenwriter, co-director, and co-producer
of the movie.

36-AGED WOMAN COMMITS SUICIDE IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN. – A 36-year-old woman committed suicide in Yerevan on Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon police received a report saying a body of a woman
was found near the building of one of streets in Armenia’s capital,
Yerevan. It was revealed that a woman had committed suicide, police
told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The woman has been identified as 36-year-old Lilit H. An investigation
has been launched.

YEREVAN CHANGE ARMENIA

“Yerevan change Armenia”: this is the motto of ARF for the coming
Yerevan City Council elections, that is to take place on May 5th.

Secretary of ARF fraction Aghvan Vardanyan announced about this during
his press conference.

He noted once more that these elections are political ones and no
matter how hard the authorities try to make a show out of it, still,
they don’t succeed.

Vardanyan noted that we have just come out of presidential elections
and citizens will express their anger on the Yerevan City Council
elections.

“These are not elections for the first position, we shouldn’t take
it as a person to person battle”, said he and reminded that the
Republican party has changed 4 Mayors, whilst the position of Mayor
is to be elected and not positioned.
