‘IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO HIDE THE BONES OF YOUR PAST WITH YOUR CURRENT DEMEANOR’ – SERJ TANKIAN

18:43 ~U 03.06.13

Armenian-American singer-songwriter and composer Serj Tankian left a
message on his Facebook page, commenting on the latest developments
in Turkey.

“Not surprising that a government that puts journalists in jail
indiscriminately and denies its Genocide of 1.5 million Armenians,
Greeks and Assyrians doesn’t hesitate to use force against peaceful
demonstrators. Gezi park in Taksim Square, with its surrounding
international hotels, was built on an old Armenian cemetery. It’s
impossible to hide the bones of your past with your current demeanor.

I am appalled by Obama’s closeness to this hypocrite named Erdogan,
Turkey’s Prime Minister.”

Syunik Governor To Be Suspended From Duties Over Murder Scandal

SYUNIK GOVERNOR TO BE SUSPENDED FROM DUTIES OVER MURDER SCANDAL

17:42 ~U 03.06.13

The governor Syunik will temporarily quit post following the deadly
scandal that saw a former mayoral candidate shot to death near
his house.

A statement released by the regional administration cites Suren
Khachatryan expressing a regret that he didn’t manage to prevent the
deadly shooting on his premises.

“I am very sorry that I wasn’t able to prevent the tragic incident
near my private residence; a fair investigation has now to provide an
answer to all my questions. Everyone has to give an answer proportional
to his conduct. The same goes for Suren Khachatryan as a citizen of
Armenia. I have decided to resign as a regional governor before the
inquest end, and I already have permission from a superior body,”
Khachatryan has said, according to the regional administration.

Suren Budaghyan, a former mayoral candidate of Goris, was gunned
down and killed outside Kjachatryan’s house on Saturday night. His
brother, Artak Budaghyan, and Nikolay Abrahamyan (who turned out to be
a personal bodyguard and a relative of the governor) were hospitalized
with injuries.

RESPONSIBLE PERSON FROM ARMENIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS: ‘VOVA’S SPIRIT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO THREATEN THE GOVERNOR OF SYUNIK MARZ ONE MORE TIME

June 3 2013

” Aravot.am inquired from Murad Grigoryan, the person responsible for
ANC office in Gyumri whether the authorities will punish the Governor
of Syunik Marz, whether they will at least deprive him from his post,
as it is demanded by many people of Syunik marz and users of social
networks. “I absolutely do not care about it, the first figure of the
Republic must be deprived from his office, the rest will sit in their
places quietly, and everything will be settled down. If the offshore
scandal of the second face of the country does not give results,
sorry for the comparison, what result some shots should have. I
do not think that law enforcement bodies will make appropriate
conclusions and display proper attitude. So that, time will pass,
it will be “padded out”, as it was with the case of Vahe Avetyan’s
murder.”- assured Murad Grigoryan. According to our interlocutor,
even though the chief police Vladimir Gasparyan’s bombastic rhetoric
and the threats in Gyumri that the end of the clans has come, that he
is going to uproot the stubbornness, that he is not going to leave
that the issues are resolved with blood, that he is going to bring
a new era in the field of legality and so on. Now chief of police’s
‘spirit’ is not enough to become interested in the cases of Syunik
Marz, as the investigation shootings in Syunik Marz are transferred
from Police Office to Military Prosecution. So, according to Murad
Grigoryan, many police departments with their sound titles from each
other are senseless and formal, although they were designed to prevent
the atmosphere generating crime, but they do nothing. Murad Grigoryan
assured that the shootings and murders in Syunik and Gyumri are the
consequences of the atmosphere formed in Armenia, and as long as people
forming the atmosphere are not punished, people is not secured from
such bloodsheds. Nuneh Arevshatyan

"The Eyewitness": 103-Year Old Mary Davtyan Recalls Her Mother’s Ass

“THE EYEWITNESS”: 103-YEAR OLD MARY DAVTYAN RECALLS HER MOTHER’S ASSASSINATION WITH TEARS IN HER EYES

11:30, 4 June, 2013

The Armenian Genocide initiated in the Ottoman Empire during the
World War I in the beginning of the previous century is one of the
biggest crimes against humanity. Advancing the 100th anniversary of
the Armenian Genocide the new project introduced by “Armenpress” news
agency is dedicated to the story of the eyewitnesses and survivors of
the calamity to prove the world one more time that our demand for the
recognition of the Armenian Genocide is fair and justified. This time
the project is dedicated to the story of 103-year old Mary Davtyan,
who witnessed the massacres of her people and the murder of her mother
at the same time.

YEREVAN, JUNE 4, ARMENPRESS. When one of the oldest citizens of Yerevan
– 103-year old Mary Davtyan, recalls the Armenian Genocide events,
she mentally goes back to 1915, Sebastia. Mary stated with tears in
her eyes: “My mother – Vergine, was a very beautiful woman. She went
to say farewell to her parents before we were to leave. Her parents’
house was not far from ours. At that moment Turks passed by and when
they saw my mother, they pulled her out. When my grandfather came
out to rescue his daughter, the Turks killed her, my grandfather and
grandmother right in front of their house.”

Among other things Mrs. Mary told us, that her father Onik understood
what had happened, when her wife did not come back home. He took her
only daughter – 5-year old Mary and left his homeland.

Mary’s memories about the disasters they had to face with on their way
are obscure, but the she clearly remembers constant hunger and how
she was missing her mother. She also recalled: “When I was crying,
my father used to say: ‘Your mother will reach us soon. She’ll come
here.'” The atrocities of the Turks also have left a deep trace in
her memory. Mary Davtyan said that the Turks used to bury living
people and grind new-born children.

Now, when years have passed Mary asks a question saying that if there
was no Armenian Genocide, than who killed her 18-year old mother. She
is confident that the criminals will not remain unpunished. Now Mary
herself is a mother of three children. She has 7 granddaughters and
9 great granddaughters.

PM says Construction of Vanadzor-Fioletovo and Armenia-Iran railways

TendersInfo
May 31, 2013 Friday

Armenia : PM says CONSTRUCTION of Vanadzor-Fioletovo and Armenia-Iran
railways in AGENDA

The construction of Vanadzor-Fioletovo and Armenia-Iran railways
remain on the government s agenda, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan
said. On the request of the Armenian side, the specialists from
different institutions, under the auspices of the Russian Railways,
consulted the government of Armenia concerning the efficiency of the
Fioletovo and Armenia-Iran projects.

The experts introduced us with several possible scenarios, and they
are on our agenda today, Sargsyan said.

North-South railway connects Armenia with Iran which can use
alternative ways of transportation of energy resources and other
goods. Now railway communications of Armenia with foreign countries is
given only through the territory of Georgia. In November 2011, former
Armenian transport and communications minister Manuk Vardanyan said
the project is ready. A group of experts headed by deputy transport
minister of Armenia, Iran and Russia has started working on it.

The project s total budget will stand at 1.7-2.8 billion dollars. The
project is now being discussed by Russia, Iran and China. World Bank
and the Asian Development Bank also keen on the project.

In December 2012, former economy minister of Armenia Tigran Davtyan
said the project of Vanadzor-Fioletovo railway construction will not
be done in the near future. Earlier, General Director of SCR Viktor
Rebets said the estimated cost of the project varied within $250-500
million.

South Caucasus Railways, which is a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian
Railways operates Armenian Railway. On February 13, 2008, Armenian
Railways was handed over to the South Caucasus Railways for 30-year
concession management with a right to prolong the management term for
other 10 years.
