The reception began with speeches from the various Members of
Parliament, as well as representatives from the community. A video
of the speech given by the Premier of New South Wales, the Hon Barry
O’Farrell MP, moving the motion on 8 May 2013, was played to the
gathering and finally the function concluded with a presentation of
a commemorative print of the text of the Motion to representatives
from Bet-Nahrain Democratic Party, Assyrian Sports and Cultural Club,
Assyrian Democratic Movement (ZOWAA), NSW Babylon Cultural Association,
Assyrian Universal Alliance among other prominent members of the
Assyrian Community.

My promise during the last State Election to have the Assyrian
Genocide recognised by the NSW Parliament has now been fulfilled
by the Premier of New South Wales, The Hon. Barry O’Farrell, MP,
who recognised me in his speech.

During the First World War more than 750,000 Assyrians together
with 1.5 million Armenians and 500,000 Greeks were murdered by the
Ottoman Empire forces in an attempt to cleanse the land of all the
Christian minorities from Turkey. This was the first genocide of the
twentieth century.

I thank the Premier of New South Wales, the Hon Barry O’Farrell MP
for moving this motion. I thank him on behalf of my constituents;

I thank him on behalf of every victim of the Assyrian, Armenian and
Greek Genocide and their decedents; and

I thank him on behalf of every activist for Genocide recognition
around the world that has demanded history record the truth and that
justice be done.

In my inaugural address to the NSW Parliament, I recalled that:

My journey into this place started in the summer of 1918 when my
father was just a teenager and my mother a young child.

They and their families were among 90,000 Assyrian Christian refugees
fleeing their ancestral homeland to escape persecution.

My parents and the other refugees were fleeing from the Ottoman Empire
to escape what would later be known as the “Armenian, Assyrian and
Pontic Greek Genocide”.

By the grace of God my parents survived, for the reason they were
protected, and protected by none other than an Australian soldier.

Lieutenant General Sir Stanley George Savige, KBE, CB, DSO, MC, ED, at
that time a 28-year-old captain, was selected to join “Dunsterforce”,
an elite task force assigned to resupplying the Assyrians fighting
in Persia.

Unable to complete the task due to the fall of Urmia, he persuaded his
British commander that he should stay back with the remaining refugees.

For six weeks, Captain Savige used all the means at his disposal to
protect the refugees against the perpetual onslaught of the Ottoman
forces. Reasoning that the Turkish commander would concentrate on
killing him before harming the refugees, he strategically placed his
command at the rear of the refugee procession and deliberately drew
enemy fire.

By offering his command as a target, even though he was outnumbered
one hundred to one, Captain Savige managed to slow the enemy advance
long enough for most of the refugees to flee.

This act of courage and self-sacrifice was far beyond what was expected
of a junior officer in the field.

Captain Savige was subsequently decorated with the Distinguished
Service Order for his efforts.

Australian journalist, historian and official war correspondent,
Charles Bean, wrote:

The stand made by Savige and his eight companions that evening and
during half of the next day against hundreds of the enemy thirsting
like wolves to get at the defenceless throng was as fine as any
episode known to the present writer in the history of this war.

My parents survived the Genocide because of the heroic actions of
Sir Stanley George Savige and as the Member for Smithfield; I pay
tribute to him again today in this House.

Once again, I thank the Premier of New South Wales, the Hon Barry
O’Farrell MP for moving this motion and I thank every other activist
from our community that has assisted with this historic achievement.

Finally, I encourage you to watch Liberal Premier, The Hon. Barry
O’Farrell MP, moving the motion within the Parliament of NSW
Legislative Assembly to recognise the Assyrian, Armenian, and
Greek Genocide by the Ottoman Empire, by following this link:

Thank you all for your support,

Andrew Rohan MP State Member for Smithfield Chairman Parliamentary

The car is equipped with the necessary technology, and the service

“Taking into account the constantly growing passenger traffic on

and the new car is another step of the company towards this,” according
to the source.

Yerevan-Batumi-Yerevan train operates from 15 June to 1 October. The
train transported over 50,000 passengers last year.

South Caucasus Railways, a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian

Armenian PM Finds Unique Method To "Sidetrack" Offshore Scandal? – N

ARMENIAN PM FINDS UNIQUE METHOD TO “SIDETRACK” OFFSHORE SCANDAL? – NEWSPAPER

June 12, 2013 | 06:48

YEREVAN. – Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan’s circles decided to
“sidetrack” the story of the offshore organization that is linked to
Sargsyan’s name by way of registering similar organizations, Hraparak
daily reports.

“We have found that such organizations are registered under the
names of [opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) bloc National
Assembly (NA) Faction leader, ANC Party Vice-Chairman] Levon Zurabyan,
[non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party NA Faction Secretary]
Naira Zohrabyan, [ANC Party Chairman, First President] Levon
Ter-Petrosyan, and [many] others.

In this way, they want to prove that anyone can register an offshore
organization under anyone’s name, without his consent, [and] even
without having his passport. It is solely necessary to pay a 40-50
euro state duty and to input the person’s coordinates on the Internet,”
Hraparak writes.

Adam Schiff Calls Supreme Court Decision "Deeply Disappointing"

ADAM SCHIFF CALLS SUPREME COURT DECISION “DEEPLY DISAPPOINTING”

Representative Adam Schiff calls Supreme Court Decision “deeply
disappointing”

“The Supreme Court’s decision to decline to hear arguments in Movsesian
v. Versicherung AG is deeply disappointing, both because of the urgent
need to secure justice for the victims of the Armenian Genocide and
their survivors, and the important constitutional issues at stake,”
Rep. Schiff said in an interview withAsbarez.

“As a State Senator, I was a principal cosponsor of the bill which
extended the statute of limitations on such claims, and I feel a
compelling personal interest in maintaining access to justice for
victims of genocide,” he said.

“Prior to the court’s recent decision, I drafted legislation to make it
clear that it is the policy of the United States to assist the victims
of genocide, whether the Armenian genocide or any other atrocity,
in pursuing claims for redress. The federal government should be
encouraging states to provide a venue for the victims of genocide,
not impeding legal claims. With today’s decision, such legislation
is all the more essential and I will be working with the community
to put the final touches on the bill prior to its introduction,”
Adam Schiff stated.

During the interview, Schiff discussed new efforts in Congress to
attain US acknowledgement of the Armenian Genocide, as well as his
role in the new legislation, US aid to Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh
and Javakhk, as well as his first few months serving a newly-redrawn
district, which in addition to Glendale and Burbank, includes Little
Armenia among other areas.

Haykakan Zhamanak: Talks On Nairit Plant On Brink Of Collapse

HAYKAKAN ZHAMANAK: TALKS ON NAIRIT PLANT ON BRINK OF COLLAPSE

Wednesday,
June 12

The talks between the Armenian government and Itera Group of Companies,
Russia, regarding Nairit Plant are on the brink of collapse, “Haykakan
Zhamanak” says, citing its sources. The sides have failed to reach
an agreement on the key issues. The Russian company demands that
Nairit’s debts be cancelled and the plant be sold as a debt-free
enterprise. Such demands are not advantageous to the Armenian side.

“The problem is that dirty tricks were used at Nairit Plant for years
and the industrial giant has been milked to such a degree that nobody
knows today how much debt the plant has, how the debt accumulated,
and who the creditors are. Several offshore companies have cashed
in on the plant for years, making profits of dozens of millions and
bankrupting the plant, to put it mildly. According to some estimates,
Nairit owes various banks and companies $250-300 million, and half
a billion dollars is needed for the plant’s modernization,” the
paper writes.

2017”, declare Mikhaïl Pogossian, directeur general d’OAK, maison

Pogossian.

Protests In Turkey Reduce Its Chances To Become Regional Leader – Ar

PROTESTS IN TURKEY REDUCE ITS CHANCES TO BECOME REGIONAL LEADER – ARMENIAN TURKOLOGIST

June 10, 2013 | 15:48

YEREVAN. – Turkey’s standing, which had risen among Arab countries
during the Arab Spring, will substantially fall as a result of the
ongoing demonstrations in Turkey.

Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences Institute of Orientology
Director, turkologist Ruben Safrastyan noted the aforesaid during a
press conference on Monday.

“Some Arab countries were admiring the Turkish model of governance,
which was conducting an Islamic, but at the same time a democratic
policy. It became apparent, however, that this democracy is primarily
propaganda,” Safrastyan said.

He added that the current protests in Turkey should be a lesson for
those European forces that favor the country becoming a European Union
(EU) member.

“Turkey is not a country that can become an EU member; it has a long
way to go [in that respect],” Safrastyan stressed.

As per the turkologist, the ongoing demonstrations reduce Turkey’s
chances to become a regional leader.

“Also, there is an outflow of Western capital from Turkey, in
connection with the demonstrations, and this may [negatively] impact
Turkey’s economic development,” Ruben Safrastyan concluded.

Soccer: Result: Armenia Trounce Denmark In Copenhagen

RESULT: ARMENIA TROUNCE DENMARK IN COPENHAGEN

Sports Mole
June 11 2013

By Pascal Lemesre, Reporter

Unfancied Armenia stunned Denmark 4-0 in their World Cup qualifier
in Copenhagen this evening.

The Danes went into the game as heavy favourites but were two down
at the break and failed to muster a comeback in the second half.

The visitors took the lead after just 25 seconds when Simon Poulsen
gave the ball away and Yura Movsisyan half-volleyed home.

Denmark almost hit back instantly but Dennis Rommedahl’s chip was
cleared off the line. The former Charlton man then rolled wide with
just the keeper to beat before Armenia doubled their lead.

Aras Ozbiliz was played onside and he finished past Stephan Andersen.

The third came on the hour mark when Movsisyan was found on the left
of the area and he finished into the far corner from a tight angle.

It was four when Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored a solo effort. The reported
Liverpool target sprinted down the right before cutting inside past
his man then dropping a shoulder to earn space for a shot, tucking
inside Andersen’s near post.

The remaining Denmark fans in the stadium applauded that goal as they
watched their hopes of qualifying for Brazil 2014 take a serious dent.

The result moves Armenia above Denmark into fourth place on goal
difference. Both sides have six points and are eight adrift of Italy
in top spot and four behind Bulgaria in second.
