POLAND AMBASSADOR: IMAGINE A MONUMENT TO TALAAT PASHA IS ERECTED IN ONE OF EUROPEAN CITIES

May 23, 2014 | 00:54

YEREVAN. – Imagine that a monument to Talaat Pasha is erected in
one of the European cities. Poland’s Ambassador to Armenia ZdzisÅ~Baw
RaczyÅ~Dski quoted the remark of one of social network users commenting
on the Yerevan municipality’s decision to erect a monument to Soviet
politician Anastas Mikoyan.

Ambassador said the point is not whether he is for or against the
monument, adding that his statement was accepted with criticism and
misunderstanding.

“I saw a good phrase in one of social networks: ‘Imagine that
a monument to Talaat Pasha is erected in one of the European
cities. If our [Armenian] ambassador was silent, do you think he
had to be dismissed?’ This is the answer,” RaczyÅ~Dski told Armenian
News-NEWS.am.

During the meeting with Speaker Galust Sahakyan, Ambassador RaczyÅ~Dski
expressed hope that Armenian authorities will be sensitive to the
feelings of the Polish people. Anastas Mikoyan is linked to the
shooting of 22 Polish officers in 1940 in Russia’s Smolensk region.

Armenians Positive About EU Ties And Situation In Their Country

ARMENIANS POSITIVE ABOUT EU TIES AND SITUATION IN THEIR COUNTRY

ENPI Info Centre, EU
May 21 2014

21-05-2014

Two thirds of Armenians feel the European Union has good relations
with their country. This is one of the key findings of the recently
released Autumn 2013 EU Neighbourhood Barometer for Armenia, conducted
in the framework of an EU-funded opinion polling project for the
Neighbourhood.

The survey, based on 1000 interviews conducted in December 2013-January
2014, finds, however, that the number of respondents that see the
relations of their country with the EU as good has dropped by 12
percentage points since Spring 2013.

More than half of Armenians (55%) feel that cooperation with the
EU is instrumental to upholding peace and security in the region,
compared to 44% across the Eastern Partnership (EaP) region in general.

Tackling poverty is viewed as yet another key area of EU-Armenia
cooperation by 53% of those polled, while supporting human rights is
deemed important by 43% of respondents.

A relative majority in Armenia has a positive image of the EU (44%
against 19% of those who describe the EU image as negative), but with
a large decrease since spring 2013. Neutral opinions have largely
increased (+25%). More than half of those asked (54%) said they trust
the EU, which is slightly less than the level of their trust in the UN
(56%) but considerably more than that in NATO (37%).

Armenians questioned in the poll were generally optimistic about their
lives, with 64% satisfied with the life they lead, with the degree
of satisfaction rising the younger and more educated respondents were.

Though 86% of respondents said the economic situation was bad, a
relative majority (41%) felt Armenia was going in the right direction.

The overwhelming majority of those asked (72% against 64% in the EaP
region) were not satisfied with the way democracy worked in Armenia.

The EU Neighbourhood Barometer project, funded under the DG Development
and Cooperation (EuropeAid) Regional Communication Programme, conducts
opinion polls and monitors the media in the 16 partner countries
and territories participating in the European Neighbourhood Policy,
plus Russia. (EU Neighbourhood Info)

foreign countries.

“We need to open trade houses in the United States, Canada, Belgium,
United Arab Emirates, Germany, Bulgaria, Iran and some other countries
to promote our exports. They should sell Armenia-made products. We
have such a house in Russia,” said Chshmarityan during a debate on
the government plan of actions for 2014-2017.

Parliamentary Minority To Boycott Voting On New Armenian Government

PARLIAMENTARY MINORITY TO BOYCOTT VOTING ON NEW ARMENIAN GOVERNMENT PLAN OF ACTIONS

YEREVAN, May 22. / ARKA /. Armenian parliamentary minority represented
by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutyun (ARF), the
Armenian National Congress, the Prosperous Armenia and the Heritage
parties said they would boycott the voting on the government plan of
actions for 2014-2017 today.

Head of Heritage faction Ruben Hakobyan said this way the minority
shows its disagreement with the current political system.

Addressing Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan he said,’ You believe
that you will be able to implement this program. However, what you
say are just words, not supported by a real guarantee.”

The Country of Law party, which left recently the coalition with the
Republican Party of Armenia, has made so far no statements concerning
the government’s plan of actions.

In any case, the Republican Party of Armenia controls 70 seats in
the 131-member legislature and there is no doubt that the plan will
go through. -0-

There Is No Syrian Opposition But Group Of Murderers – Political Ana

THERE IS NO SYRIAN OPPOSITION BUT GROUP OF MURDERERS – POLITICAL ANALYST

11:40 / 22.05.2014

More than thirty Armenians have been wounded in Aleppo from beginning
of May. According to UN information, the number of victims during
the 3-year conflict reached 130,000 of which 100 are Armenians. Two
Armenians died and five others were wounded recently.

Political analyst Sergey Shakaryants said that the conflict relates
not only to Armenians but Greeks, Assyrians and all Christians living
in Syria.

“The extremists who claim to be political opposition in reality are
foreign hirers sent from Turkey and West. As a target they have chosen
Christians and other religious minorities. Seeing that they cannot
engage Kurds in their fight they started genocide against them,”
Shakaryants told Nyut.am.

According to the political analyst unless the western countries stop
financing the murderers they will continue genocide in Syria. If they
were really opposition they would have fought for power in political
and peaceful way and not with the usage of force.

“In case of Syria we are dealing with groups of murderers who are
using Turkey’s military assistance. It means Turkey’s aggressive
policy is being displayed in Syria. Until this aggression does not
stop the war will continue,” the political analyst said, adding that
Syria’s cases must not be presented as fight for democracy like the
USA and Turkey want to present.

The political analyst claimed that Turkish aggression has been
displayed in Kessab but luckily the people managed to reach Latakia.

“After the evacuation of Armenians, their houses in Kessab were
burnt which shows the well-known acting style of Turkey. In 1915 when
robbing of Armenians started it was the first attempt of genocide,”
Shakaryants said.
