/PanARMENIAN.Net/ PACE Resolution 1677 may be deemed as Europe’s
objective assessment on the situation in Armenia. Our political forces
and society should be satisfied with activities carried out so far,"
Head of NA Republican faction Galust Sahakyan said today.

Political situation in the country develops positively, he stated,
adding that "Differing public opinions on Resolution 1677 testify to
a dialogue between different social groups."

With regard to Zaruhi Postanjyan’s statement, Mr. Sahakyan accounted
for Armenian parliamentarian’s conduct by the lack of her experience in
politics and diplomacy. "But if she finds her deed an act of heroism,
let her think so," he said.

Russia To Plot A Second War Against Georgia?

RUSSIA TO PLOT A SECOND WAR AGAINST GEORGIA?

29.06.2009 21:07 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ In view of Russia’s veto concerning Georgian
observers in UN, "Caucasus 2009" military trainings arouse serious
doubts as to Russia’s intentions to plot a new war in Georgia, military
expert Ruben Mehrabyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent. Such
stance, according to him, is also confirmed by Russian leadership
and experts. "In view of Russian media’s propaganda against Georgia’s
current leadership, such development are quite possible," he said.

In the meantime, Mehrabyan expressed hope that Russian leadership
would "demonstrate sensibility.’ Caucasus-2009 military-operative
trainings are scheduled in Russia, from June 29 till July 6.

ANC Intends To Create New Fact-Finding Committee

ANC INTENDS TO CREATE NEW FACT-FINDING COMMITTEE

Noyan Tapan
June 29, 2009

YEREVAN, JUNE 29, NOYAN TAPAN. The Armenian National Congress (ANC)
is going to create a new fact-finding committee of experts to continue
the work of the fact-finding committee on the 2008 March 1-2 events
dissolved by the RA President lately. ANC representative Levon Zurabian
reported this on June 25.

He said that Congress had passed its facts to the fact-finding
committee.

According to one of them, 950 military uniforms were passed to some
oligarches’ skinheads from a military unit, and later they organized
all March 1 provocations and organized shops’ robbery in the evening.

Fact-finding committee members visited the above mentioned military
unit to reveal the details, but a number of high-ranking officers
arriving at the scene of action some time later hindered their work
motivating it by secrecy of information the committee demanded.

L. Zurabian said that in fact, the fact-finding committee did the
work the law enforcement bodies should have done. As a result, there
are a great number of video and audio recordings of eye-witnesses
and witnesses, which will be either publicized or passed to the
fact-finding committee to be created.

ANKARA: Turkish Translation Of ‘Blue Book’ Out Despite Controversy

TURKISH TRANSLATION OF ‘BLUE BOOK’ OUT DESPITE CONTROVERSY

Turkey

ANKARA – The Turkish and uncensored edition of the book "The Treatment
of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, 1915 Ä~^ 1916," which was earlier
criticized by the Turkish authorities for being a wartime fabrication,
has been released in Turkey.

The book, also known as the "Blue Book," was originally published in
1916 in English by the British parliament, and delves into the 1915
and 1916 incidents that resulted in the expulsion of many Armenians
from Anatolia. The central thesis of the book was the argument
that starting in 1915, Armenians were subject to a policy of mass
annihilation in the Ottoman Empire.

The inauguration of the Turkish version of the book was held Friday
in Ankara with the participation of Lord Avebury from the House of
Lords and Ara Sarafian, a British historian of Armenian origin.

"Years ago, the Turkish Parliament demanded from the British side to
withdraw the book but the British parliamentarians asked for dialogue
with the Turkish side on the issue. No response came from Turkish
Parliament. The publication of the Turkish edition of the book is a
milestone in a historical sense for Turkey and I believe a new era
for dialogue will be created after this book," said Avebury.

"The Armenian genocide is the only issue that couldn’t be acknowledged
and solved in the world history but I am sure the book will contribute
to the solution of the issue."

Book creates controversy

The book, compiled by British politician Viscount James Bryce
and historian Arnold Toynbee, has been criticized by the Turkish
authorities for being a compilation based on forged documents. In 2005,
Turkish Parliament likewise sent a petition to the British parliament,
asserting the book was a wartime fabrication and had no supporting
documentation. The publisher, Turkish Pencere Publications, which
published the first Turkish version of the book in 2005, was also
ruled to pay a fine.

Coming to the conclusion that Turkish Parliament was not properly
informed about the book and wasn’t entirely aware of the content
of the book, the British parliament initiated the publication of
its Turkish version and the Gomidas Institute published the Turkish
translation of the uncensored edition of the Blue Book in an effort
to launch a new dialogue process between the sides on the issue.

Sarafian said with the book the Turkish official thesis on the issue
had been opened for discussion.

"The Turkish edition of the book is such an exercise in an effort to
re-engage the Armenian issue within a more democratic and open Turkey,"
he said. "I hope that at least some deputies of the Parliament will
reconsider their collective position on the Blue Book and distance
themselves from it."

The book was also sent to all deputies in Turkish Parliament and the
necessary permission was taken to distribute it to the bookstores
in Turkey.

Armenian Authorities Tried To Conceal Reality From Saakashvili

ARMENIAN AUTHORITIES TRIED TO CONCEAL REALITY FROM SAAKASHVILI

/PanARMENIAN.Net/
26.06.2009 15:03 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Armenian authorities tried to conceal the protest
action from visiting Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, said
Kiro Manoyan, ARFD Bureau’s Hay Dat and Political Office director.

"I do not know, why they wanted to screen the reality," he told a
news conference today. "Police’s actions were senseless, since the
citizens were not aggressive."

A number of social and political organizations planned a protest
rally in front of Armenia Mariott hotel, where Mikhail Saakashvili
was staying during his official visit to Yerevan. Yet, the police
violently broke up the rally, forcing rally participants to the side
of Northern Avenue and Tigran Mets Street.

Rally participants aimed to voice Armenian society’s demands to
Georgian President. The demands included: legal status provision
to Armenian Apostolic Church, maintaining and improving tutoring
quality in Armenian schools of Georgia, founding of Armenian-Georgian
University.

"The police could be more respectful to the residents of Yerevan,"
Mr. Manoyan said.

ARMENIAN PARTIES ARE WAGING A STRUGGLE FOR OPPOSITIONAL ELECTORATE

24.06.2009 22:42 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "I believe it’s too early yet to speak of actual
collaboration between RA National Congress, ARF Dashnakrtutyun and
Heritage," Eduard Sharmazanov, RA Republican Party Parliamentary
Faction Secretary told a news conference. According to Sharmazanov,
ARFD and Armenian National Movement have a number of differences
which aren’t restricted to politics only. "This is why Heritage’s
collaboration with ARFD is possible in opposition filed in the
Parliament, and with Armenian National Movement outside it."

Sharmazanov also emphasized that 3 political forces mentioned above
are preparing for 2012 parliamentary elections, and all of them need to
win over the oppositional electorate. "I believe ANC has nothing left
but rallies to use as a means of influence during election campaign,"
he noted.

Dwelling on ANC policy, Sharmazanov emphasized Republican Party’s
support of civilized political struggle.
