OPPOSITIONIST WARNS ABOUT ‘ARAB SCENARIO’ IN ARMENIA

If Armenia’s authorities remain obstinate, spontaneous protests will
take place in Armenia, Levon Zurabyan, Coordinator of the opposition
Armenian National Congress (ANC), said in an interview with the
Haykakan Zhamanak daily.

“Arab scenarios are not constructed by political forces. Rather,
they are revolutionary bursts of popular anger. It was following
all these scenarios that people took to the streets in Arab states,
without being incited by the opposition. Fortunately, in Armenia we
have a united opposition, which affords the people an opportunity of
a velvet revolution. The only thing the people have to do is to take
this opportunity afforded by the united opposition. I do not rule out
that, if the authorities remain obstinate, spontaneous protests will
take place in Armenia, because it is impossible to tolerate this price
rise. Everyone understands that it is the result of this oligarchic,
monopolized economic system, that is, of the plunder at the government
level,” Zurabyan said.

HAYKAKAN ZHAMANAK: ON GAGIK KHACHATRYAN’S BUSINESSES

In response to the newspaper’s inquiry, Armenia’s Committee of State
Revenues did not refute the reports that Committee Chairman Gagik
Khachatryan and his family are owners or stockholders of more than
15 companies.

Gagik Khachatryan had held different posts at Armenia’s tax authorities
until 2001. From 2001 to 2008, he was Vice-Chief of Armenia’s Customs
Committee. Later he was appointed Head of Armenia’s Committee of
State Revenues.

21-YEAR-OLD RAPES 81-YEAR-OLD IN ALAVERDI, ARMENIA

Three days ago, a 21-year-old man raped an 82-year-old woman in the
city of Alaverdi in Lori (marz) province in Armenia.

The young man asked for the woman’s money and jewelry, but seeing
she was unrelenting, he raped her.

As told to Epress.am by Mr. Hovsepyan, an employee with the Alaverdi
Tumanyan police division, the young man has been arrested.

As reported by the Lori marz independent news site, the elderly woman
has never married and was a virgin.

ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RECOGNITION AND KURDISH COOPERATION: ISRAEL TO ‘PUNISH’ TURKEY

Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Lieberman has decided
to adopt a series of harsh measures in response to Turkey’s latest
anti-Israeli moves, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Friday.

Senior foreign ministry officials convened Thursday to prepare for a
meeting to be held Saturday with Lieberman on the matter. Saturday’s
session will be dedicated to discussing Israel’s response to Turkish
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent threats and his decision
to downgrade Ankara’s diplomatic ties with Jerusalem.

The foreign ministry has decided to proceed with the formulation of a
diplomatic and security “toolbox” to be used against the Turks. The
first move would be to issue a travel warning urging all Israeli
military veterans to refrain from traveling to Turkey. The advisory
will be especially harsh as it will also urge Israelis to refrain
from boarding connections in Turkey.

Another planned Israeli move is the facilitation of cooperation with
Turkey’s historic rivals, the Armenians. During Lieberman’s visit
to the United States this month, the foreign minister is expected
to meet with leaders of the Armenian lobby and propose anti-Turkish
cooperation in Congress.

The implication of this move could be Israeli assistance in promoting
international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, a measure that
would gravely harm Turkey. Israel may also back Armenia in its dispute
vis-a-vis Turkey over control of Mount Ararat.

Lieberman is also planning to set meetings with the heads of Kurdish
rebel group PKK in Europe in order to “cooperate with them and boost
them in every possible area.” In these meetings, the Kurds may ask
Israel for military aid in the form of training and arms supplies,
a move that would constitute a major anti-Turkish position should
it materialize.

Another means in Lieberman’s “toolbox” is a diplomatic campaign where
Israeli missions worldwide will be instructed to join the fight and
report illegal Turkish moves against minorities.

The tough response formulated by Lieberman stems, among other things,
from the foreign minister’s desire to make it clear to Erdogan that
his anti-Israeli moves are not a “one-way street.”

YEREVAN. – Football in Armenia is gradually becoming more popular
because its Football Federation (AFF) is making huge investments
in football infrastructures, Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan noted at
the beginning of today’s governmental session. He also congratulated
the Armenian national squad on its two latest victories at EURO 2012
qualifiers.In PM’s view, the AFF and its president Ruben Hayrapetyan
have a great contribution in the national team’s triumphs.

Sargsyan also informed that the football tournament in memory of the
late PM Andranik Margaryan came to a close on Wednesday, and this is
yet another testament of football’s popularity in Armenia.

US EMBASSY OFFICIAL REFRAINS FROM ‘PLEASING’ AZERBAIJAN

The United States Embassy to Azerbaijan has commented upon Uruguay’s
recent statement on the recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic
(NKR).

Reiterating the country’s stance on the issue, Kit Bin, a spokesperson
for the Embassy, told the Azerbaijani news agency 1news.az that the
United States considers the principles in the Helsinki Final Act
(territorial integrity, self-determination of peoples and refusal to
use force or threat of force) to be the basis of a peaceful and fair
settlement of the conflict.

“The United States, as a co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group,
is willing to assist the parties to achieve peace and fair settlement
based on those principles,” he said.

As for Uruguay Foreign Minister Luis Almagro’s recent statement,
Bin refrained from making any comment, considering it a bilateral
issue between Uruguay and Azerbaujan.

“The United States does not comment on other countries bilateral
statements,” he said.

HAYKAKAN ZHAMANAK: GANG ATTACK IN ARMAVIR

The paper claims that a resident in Arshaluis village in Armavir
region was attacked by a gang group at around 3am.

Seven men in masks entered the house of Vardan Vardumyan who sells
chemical poisions.

Vardumyan, his wife and three children were asleep when the gangs
rushed into the house. The perpetrators tied him up and physically
assaulted him.

The criminals also took with them $1800, 1150 euro and 3.5 million
Armenian dram (approx. $9600) and large amounts of golden and silver
jewelry.

L’Azerbaïdjan a repondu avec des massacres aux methodes civilisees du
Mouvement du Karabakh qui a commence en 1988. Les premiers meurtres
de masse ont commence dans la ville de Sumgait. Les temoins disent
que tout avait ete organise d’avance dont des listes d’armeniens.

Le president de l’Assemblee des Armeniens d’Azerbaidjan Grigory
Ayvazyan a rendu public la liste des criminels responsables des
pogroms de Sumgait. Environ un million d’armeniens a ete banni de
leurs maisons suite a la politique de purification ethnique. Environ
500000 se sont enfuis vers l’Armenie les autres a l’etranger.

Ayant etudie les faits, l’Assemblee a conclu que les purifications
ethniques et des meurtres de masses ont ete organises et commis par
les fonctionnaires suivants : le Premier Secretaire de la Republique
Socialiste Sovietique D’Azerbaidjan Baghirov, President du Conseil
des Ministres Seidov, le chef du departement du Comite Central du
parti Communiste d’Azerbaïdjan Asadov, le Premier Secretaire du Comite
Politique de Sumgait Muslimzadeh et d’autres.

Grigory Ayvazyan demande que soit adopter aussitôt que possible le
projet de loi condamnant le massacre de Sumgait et le decrivant comme
un genocide qui atteint a l’Assemblee nationale depuis 2009.

materiel medical en Armenie. Didier Parakian ” ce materiel provient
des hôpitaux publics de Marseille il etait destine a venir en aide
humanitaire a l’etranger. Nous avons souhaite qu’il soit mis a
destination de l’Armenie “. Le materiel receptionne par Ferdinand
Gracian et les benevoles de l’association Chene fut dirige vers
l’Armenie avec la participation de la Ville de Marseille. Didier
Parakian ” ce materiel sera très utile en Armenie et nous sommes
toujours prets a la soutenir car notre Republique qui fete ses 20 ans
a toujours besoin de nous tous. Je tiens a saluer egalement le travail
très important qu’effectue Ferdinand Gracian, son epouse Iskouhi et
son equipe de benevoles au service de l’Armenie. Un travail a l’ecart
des projecteurs des medias, afin que l’Armenie souffre moins “.

le 6 septembre les nouvelles constructions du quartier d’habitation
” Artsakh ” de Stepanakert. B. Sahakian a constate l’avancement des
travaux et la qualite des constructions de ces immeubles d’habitation.

Il etait accompagne du Premier ministre Ara Haroutiounian et du
ministre des Constructions Karen Chahramanian. B. Sahakian a insiste
sur la qualite requise et la modernite pour ces appartements ainsi
que l’importance des finitions avant leur remise aux habitants.
