Zhoghovurd: Alternative Elections Afoot – Zhirair Sefilyan

ZHOGHOVURD: ALTERNATIVE ELECTIONS AFOOT – ZHIRAIR SEFILYAN

Tert.am

The newspaper interviewed Zhirair Sefilyan, action group coordinator,
Sardarapat movement.

Below is an excerpt from the interview:

– Mr Sefilyan, the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) has
a rather long list of candidates. What do you think of the number of
seats the ANC may have in the future parliament?

– I do not think the opposition candidates running for parliament in
single-member constituencies may gain a single seat in parliament. The
authorities say: “Try and get votes by means of PR, and it is up
to us to decide on the number of seats to grant you. That is, the
opposition is expected to beg.”

– Why did you leave the ANC? You might be running for parliament
together.

– I explicitly announced my secession from the ANC. I have not had
anything in common with them for a long time. I tried to join the
democratic movement and support our people. I tried to give advice
to Levon Ter-Petrosyan. Several months later, however, I understood
that it was senseless. Now I am going about my business.

– What business?

– We are preparing for alternative elections. We will lay the
foundations for forming authorities outside the rules of the game.

Expo Beauty 2012 – An Event Not To Be Missed

EXPO BEAUTY 2012 – AN EVENT NOT TO BE MISSED
by Marianna Martynova

2012-03-27

Yet another spectacular exhibition timed to coincide with Day of Beauty
and Motherhood, which will conclude the Month dedicated to Armenian
women, took place in Yerevan. The Moscow business center hosted Expo
Beauty 2012, a three-day traditional specialized exhibition of the
beauty industry.

Armenian Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan congratulated those present
(the participants and the visitors) on the opening of the exhibition.

The doors of the exhibition first flew open six years ago. Since
then the international forum is held in Armenia every year. During
this period the international exhibition has acquired the status
of a traditional meeting place of importers, manufacturers, and
distributors of a wide range of products and services in the sphere
of beauty and health.

The dynamics of the exhibition’s development are obvious: the number
of its participants increased by 10% compared with last year. The
visitors, too, increasingly show greater interest in the beauty
industry.

The current exhibition differed from the similar projects organized
in the previous years in that it has covered a larger target audience.

The matter concerns first of all professionals such as wholesale
suppliers of cosmetics and equipment, as well as owners and employees
of beauty salons. Among the participants were more than 60 companies
that displayed products of various countries.

For many years Expo Beauty has constantly attracted the attention of
women, regardless of their age.

This year – as in the previous years – the visitors had a chance to
see a wide variety of products and services, including cosmetics
for medicinal purposes, makeup, perfumery, skincare and hair-care
products, hygiene products, bijouterie, fancy goods, child care
products, bedclothes, flowers, and wedding goods and accessories.

Along with well-known firms whose products are in great demand in
Armenia such as Mary Kay, FredericM Armenia, Conte, and Brabion Flora
Service which made the exhibition visitors happy by displaying their
new lines (new creams, shampoos, ad perfumes), a number of debutants
took part in Expo Beauty 2012, among them the Matisse artistic
salon-shop that opened in Yerevan recently. Matisse offers handmade
articles of Armenian craftsmen. The salon is oriented not so much
towards foreign customers as towards those who value uniqueness of
items made by hand in a single exemplar.

At the exhibition, the Matisse salon displayed mostly bijouterie and
small glass-ware, but you can find a lot of other interesting works
of art by visiting that salon.

The new model of a woman’s knickers designed to provide protection
and isolation of the thighs aroused keen interest of those female
visitors who wear large-size clothes. According to the undergarment’s
designers Gohar and Susanna (G&S joint venture), it will allow women
to feel comfortable.

The eco cosmetics, which included products of both European
manufacturers and Armenian companies, such as herbal creams,
apricot-based oil, and originally designed natural soap were the
focus of attention of most visitors.

In recent years many people tend to return to a healthy lifestyle,
which has led to the emergence of a new type of consumer who makes
high demands of the safety and naturalness of cosmetics.

Highly professional cosmetologists and makeup artists were present
at the exhibition, so the visitors could turn to them for information
and advice.

Traditionally, the exhibition included many contests and business
events. Women had the opportunity to attend master classes of
cosmetologists and hairdressers, fashion shows, the beauty pageant Miss
Beauty 2012, and even to feel models for a few minutes by taking part
in a photo session and the Miss Beauty photo contest. The Steering
Committee of Expo Beauty 2012 announced the winner who received a
certificate and a small souvenir.

The photo session was conducted by the GM photo studio, a creative
union of two professional photo artists Garegin Ghazarian and Marianna
Meliksetian, who have participated in many photo exhibitions and
have been awarded diplomas for their advertisements, booklets,
and portfolios.

No beauty exhibition without attire for little girls of fashion is
a real exhibition. It is these fashion-conscious girls who will
later wear all that is designed and created today by our skilled
professionals, with the help of advanced technologies. It would be
unfair to disregard future winners of the beauty contests!

Handmade clothes of Yerevan-based Tosp Company were displayed during
Expo Beauty. All items on display were bright clothes made of cotton
and designed for babies, prospective mothers, and all other members
of a family. The assortment of clothes of the company ranges from
children’s tights to evening dresses for special occasions.

The wedding dresses were fantastic.

Nothing beautifies a woman as much as a wedding dress!

With the approach of spring, the salons of wedding dresses and
accessories start to attract more visitors. The exhibition participants
showed not only traditional puffed wedding dresses, but also new ones,
many of which had an elegantly narrowed lower part. The wedding dress
with elements of the Armenian national style was especially original.

The pavilion of the Nane salon-shop offering various kinds of beautiful
curtains and blinds was an added attraction of the exhibition.

And, of course, there were a lot of flowers.

Flower salons also displayed their compositions. Among them were
Brabion Flora Service, Demira, Flowers Lucy, Uma, Vermont Arm,
and Magnolia, which specialize in decoration of stand-up parties,
banquets, conferences and other events and offer a wide range of
firecrackers and balloons.

In general, the exhibition opened up opportunities for business
contacts of specialists engaged in production and sale of cosmetics.

The main goals of the organizers, namely, the display of products and
services, advertising and boosting the image of each participating
company, and the establishment of new business links, have been
achieved.

The participation of famous companies helped to make the exhibition
memorable and significant.

Expo Beauty 2012 was a festival, a spectacular and important event
not to be missed.

BAKU: Leyla Aliyeva: Construction Of The New Energy Block At The Arm

LEYLA ALIYEVA: CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW ENERGY BLOCK AT THE ARMENIAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IN METSAMOR IS A MAJOR BLOW TO ENVIRONMENTAL SECURITY

Trend

Azerbaijan

Member of UK House of Lords Mohamed Sheikh has hosted an official
reception at the House of Lords on the occasion of the presentation
of the IDEA (International Dialogue on Environmental Action) campaign
of vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.

The presentation ceremony was organized by the UK`s EcoMuslim
Organization and Azerbaijani embassy to UK.

In his opening remarks Founder Director of EcoMuslim Organization Omar
Faruk stressed main directions of Azerbaijan`s development and recent
environmental initiatives in the country, and spoke of importance of
IDEA`s activity for South Caucasus nations.

Speaking at the presentation Mohamed Sheikh highlighted the increasing
role of Azerbaijan in regional and global policy, and briefed
the attendees on bringing many geo-economic, transport and energy
projects to fruition in the country. He also underscored importance
of activities as part of the IDEA Environment Campaign.

IDEA initiator Leyla Aliyeva informed the participants on environmental
projects which were implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and
cooperation with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) to mobilize
Azerbaijani youth for Rio+20 conference.

The Vice-president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation also touched on IDEA
volunteers` activity in secondary schools. She added that kids should
learn about environmental education from childhood. They should
know about the protection of environment in elementary and secondary
schools. The youth should understand the importance of environmental
harmony. The main objective of my campaign is to highlight the role
of primary education towards ensuring the right behavior of a person
to live in harmony with the environment.

Leyla Aliyeva stated that South Caucasus is one of the regions with
rich agro-biodiversity. According to her, the Caucasus region is very
sensitive to the climate change and this should be taken into account
in planning any economic projects.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union a number of environmental
problems, which are likely to create environmental, health and economic
threats, occurred in this region. The South Caucasus countries ratified
Convention on Biological Diversity and other relevant international
documents and undertook obligations to protect the environment.

But current frozen and active conflicts in the region had negative
impacts on the ecosystem. Deliberately setting fire to forests in
the occupied lands of Azerbaijan creates danger for flora and fauna.

Construction of the new energy block at the Armenian nuclear power
plant (NPP) in Metsamor is a major blow to environmental security.

Azerbaijan is the only country which ratified UNECE Water Convention.

Cooperation among young members of the society becomes a vital element
for protection of environment in the light of the environmental threats
the region faced. The mentioned threats prove that environmental
challenges must be resolved through strengthening international
environmental management.

Leyla Aliyeva also spoke of Azerbaijan`s history. She said: “I`m proud
to be born in the first Muslim country which established the first
parliamentary republic in the East, granted women equal political
rights with men and accepted progressive Western values.”

Following the official reception Leyla Aliyeva handed over keepsakes
to Mohamed Sheikh on behalf of the Azerbaijani delegation.

The event was attended by the members of the British parliament,
representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in this country,
Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyngulu
Bagirov, head of the political analysis and information provision
department at the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Elnur
Aslanov, SOCAR Vice-President for Environmental Issues Rafiga
Huseynzade, Azerbaijan`s ambassador Fakhraddin Gurbanov and others.

Routine Rhetoric: Erdogan Brings Armenian Issues To Meeting With Oba

ROUTINE RHETORIC: ERDOGAN BRINGS ARMENIAN ISSUES TO MEETING WITH OBAMA
By Gayane Abrahamyan

Prime Minster of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as fold in Armenia say,
has again launched his “April 24 advance.”

At a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama on Sunday in Seoul, South
Korea, Erdogan called on Obama “not to mistake U.S. senators, lawmakers
and politicians for historians,” and to abstain from the adoption of
the resolution in the U.S. Congress regarding the Armenian Genocide.

Even though the meeting of the two countries’ leaders was over
the problems between Syria and Iran, Erdogan also voiced the issues
related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the resolution regarding
the Armenian Genocide submitted to the U.S. Congress.

“We are tired. Every year in April we face the same problem, whether
Republicans come [to power] or Democrats, the issue remains the same,”
Erdogan says.

Armenian political analysts believe that Erdogan’s recently increased
efforts are lost in more pressing issues. Hakob Chakryan, specialist
in Turkish studies, is sure that against the background of the tension
in the Arab world, “the Armenian-Turkish relations have been absolutely
sidelined.”

“Currently, Turkey tries to settle some issues through caprice;
however, it is not perceived seriously,” Chakryan says, adding that
Erdogan must leave for Iran on Tuesday, “this means that Erdogan
carries out assignments in Syria and Iran, and he will demand some
concessions (related to Armenia) from the U.S.”

The concessions, however, will somehow be realized because the experts
almost exclude the adoption of the new resolution.

“Now the adoption of the resolution is not possible, because Syria’s
problems are interconnected with these two countries [U.S.-Turkey].

Turkey is the only country for the United States in the region, that
it can cooperate with regarding this issue, and Turkey is the United
States’ most important military partner, and now is not the time to
insult the partner,” says specialist in Turkish studies Arestakes
Simavoryan, leading Noravank Educational-Foundation’s Center for
Armenology (Armenian studies).

Simavoryan and Chakryan are sure this year Obama will not pronounce
the word “genocide” either, however, at the same time it is possible
that “he will again make a rather harsh statement” in order to court
support from the Armenian community ahead of the Presidential elections
in the United States.

ARMENIAN PRESIDENT SIGNIFIED STRUGGLE AGAINST TURNING ENERGY RESOURCES INTO MALICIOUS POLITICAL CAPITAL

Panorama.am
27/03/2012

Addressing the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, President Serzh
Sargsyan stated it would be appropriate to focus on energy, as well
as nuclear energy security-related issues as a whole.

According to president’s press office, RA President has signified
struggle against turning energy resources into malicious political
capital.

Its consequences, as President Sargsyan has stated, are burdensome
especially for those countries that lack natural energy resources
and have to seek for ways of energy independence.

“Two of the four direct neighbors of Armenia, violating norms of
the international law, keep our country in a blockade for almost two
decades and among many other problems leave no alternative even in
energy independence,” Serzh Sargsyan said.

Concluding his remarks President Sargsyan has re-confirmed Armenia’s
commitment to struggle against illegal circulation of nuclear
materials, as well as our country’s determination to support
international efforts in fight against terrorism.

And he was even more surprised by the fact that he did not pay directly
to the hairdresser, but rather to the administrator, and the latter
had given him a receipt.

“In my country I always gave the money to the hairdresser, and the
hairdresser never gives a receipt. It seems you are more progressive,”
the Estonian official jokingly said while delivering remarks at an
