Statement By The President On Yom HaShoah

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT ON YOM HASHOAH

ARMENPRESS
APRIL 20, 2012
YEREVAN

YEREVAN, APRIL 20, ARMENPRESS: US president Barack Obama delievered a
speech on Holocaust Remembrance Day, reports Armenpress citing White
House press center. ‘On this Holocaust Remembrance Day, I join people
of all faiths across the United States, in Israel and around the world
in paying tribute to all who suffered in the Shoah-a horrific crime
without parallel in human history. We honor the memory of six million
innocent men, women and children who were sent to their deaths simply
because of their Jewish faith. We stand in awe of those who fought
back, in the ghettos and in the camps, against overwhelming odds. And
in the year of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Raoul Wallenberg,
we are humbled by the rescuers who refused to be bystanders to evil.

On this day, and all days, we must do more than remember. We
must resolve that “never again” is more than an empty slogan. As
individuals, we must guard against indifference in our hearts and
recognize ourselves in our fellow human beings. As societies, we
must stand against ignorance and anti-Semitism, including those who
try to deny the Holocaust. As nations, we must do everything we can
to prevent and end atrocities in our time. This is the work I will
advance when I join survivors and their families at the United States
Holocaust Memorial Museum on Monday. This must be the work of us all,
as nations and peoples who cherish the dignity of every human being’.

Hollande: "Not Recognizing Armenian Genocide Is One Of The Obstacles

HOLLANDE: “NOT RECOGNIZING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IS ONE OF THE OBSTACLES FOR TURKEY TO ENTER EU”

11:36 . 20/04

“Not recognizing the Armenian Genocide is one of the obstacles for
Turkey to enter EU” French Presidential Candidate Francois Hollande
said in his interview to “Le Nouvel Obs” journal.

Ha has mentioned several other obstacles -the fact that the issue of
Cyprus is not resolved, the problem of the level of democracy. Because
of these obstacles the process of Turkey’s entering EU will not finish
in the coming five years.

Hollande is for continuing the dialogue with Turkey: he has added
that the tension which Sarkozy has maintained in the relations with
Ankara over the past five years contradicts to the interests of the
official Paris.

TBILISI: Russia Threatens To Move Gabal Radar Station To Armenia

RUSSIA THREATENS TO MOVE GABAL RADAR STATION TO ARMENIA

The Messenger
April 19 2012
Georgia

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, a Russian radar station has
continued to function on Azeri territory, in Gabal.

The Russian government pays rent on the location, but recently the
Azeri administration has increased the price. Instead of paying, the
Russians are considering moving the station elsewhere, potentially
to Armenia. Some analysts believe that this is merely a tactic aimed
at lowering Azerbaijan’s asking price.

EurosibPower Engineering Subsidiary In Armenia Expanding Program Of

EUROSIBPOWER ENGINEERING SUBSIDIARY IN ARMENIA EXPANDING PROGRAM OF CENTRALIZED HEATING

Cogeneration & On-Site Power Production Magazine

April 18 2012

ArmRosCogeneration CJSC, subsidiary of EurosibPower Engineering, is
expected to double the number of subscribers of centralized heating
in the Avan Community, Yerevan.

Mikael Rustamyan, Head of ArmRosCogeneration CJSC, told ArmInfo a total
of 1240 apartments or around 5,000 people are connected to centralized
heating. Next winter these figures may be increased to 3320 apartments
or 10154 residents – around 30% of the Avan Community residents.

On April 18 the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia
extended the license of ArmRosCogeneration CJSC for construction of
the second launch facility of the autonomous cogeneration plant and
installation of new equipment (boiler house and co-generator) till
April 27 2013. The company is to inform the Commission of payment of
a 14.8 million drams bank guarantee from VTB Bank Armenia CJSC to the
state budget within two weeks. Rustamyan said that the company will
increase capacity till April 2013 to connect another three quarters of
the Avan Community to the centralized heating system. He said that new
subscribers are connected to the system every year before the heating
season. Last year the number of the company’s subscribers grew 10%,
he said.

There is no centralized heating in the country and gas household
heating devices are used. The cost of the centralized and local heating
is actually similar. Centralized heating is safer and more ecological,
Rustamyan said.

To recall, ArmRosCogeneration CJSC completed the first part of the
launching facility of the autonomous cogeneration plant with the
electic capacity of 2MW and heating capacity of 17.4MW in Dec 2009.

The first boiler house was put into exploitation and heating
ans hot water was supplied to 30 residential buildings in Avan
Community. The license for construction of the cogeneration plant
expires in Nov 2012. ArmRosCogeneration CJSC – is a joint venture
Russian-Armenian company, the founder of which from Russian side is
EuroSibEnergo-Engineering LLC (85%). The Armenian shareholders are
several private companies. EuroSibEnergo-Engineering LLC, in turn,
is part of En+Group Holding controlled by the Russian businessman
Oleg Deripaska.

Armenian Genocide Should Be Recognized

ARMENIAN GENOCIDE SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED
By Britt Towery

San Angelo Standard Times

April 19 2012

DiscussPrintAAA.SAN ANGELO, Texas – Next Tuesday marks the 97th
anniversary of the Armenian genocide by the Turkish government,
a fact that the Turks to this day deny.

Armenians all over the world commemorate this great tragedy on April
24, because it was on that day in 1915 when 300 Armenian leaders,
writers, thinkers and professionals in Constantinople (present day
Istanbul) were rounded up and deported or killed. Also on that day
in Constantinople, 5,000 of the poorest Armenians were butchered in
the streets and in their homes.

The Ottoman Empire was a world power from the 13th century until
the 20th. During the 16th and 17th centuries the empire reached its
height of power under Suleiman the Magnificent, controlling much of
southeast Europe, Western Asia and North Africa.

Much like the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire rotted away with
the Young Turks forming a modern country called Turkey. In the
process of the revolution, the Armenian minority (mostly Christian)
were threatened, killed and raped in the worst ethnic cleansing in
Turkish history.

It was a prelude to what Adolf Hitler would do 20 years later
in Germany. An estimated 1.5 million to 2 million Armenians were
slaughtered. Those who survived fled the country.

Since Hitler’s genocide, the Western world has been constantly reminded
to “never let it happen again.” But it continued in Cambodia (remember
Pol Pot’s murder of 2 million Cambodians that went without comment
from the United States); Rwanda (Hutu militants exterminated 800,000
Tutsi without even a high-level protest); Bosnia (Serbs’ slaughter
of Muslims), and the Sudanese government’s treatment of Darfur (where
the Turkish government continues to supply Sudan with weapons).

Observers recorded that Hitler said to his generals on the eve of
sending his killing units into Poland, “Go, kill without mercy … who
today remembers the annihilation of the Armenians?”

Between 1983 and 1988, the United States supplied Saddam Hussein with
more than $500 million per year in credits so Iraq could purchase
American farm products.

In 1987-1988 Hussein’s forces destroyed several thousand Iraqi Kurdish
villages using chemical weapons. (This was not considered genocide,
but shows again how little the U.S. government knew or cared what was
going on abroad.) Our old friend, Hussein, became the enemy in 2003.

Henry Morgenthau Sr., the American ambassador to the Ottoman Empire,
after hearing from missionaries and deported Armenians, sent a cable
to the U.S. State Department in 1915: “Deportation of and excesses
against peaceful Armenians is increasing and from harrowing reports of
eye witnesses (sic) it appears that a campaign of race extermination
is in progress under a pretext of reprisal against rebellion.”

Morgenthau called it “race murder.” Morgenthau’s successor followed
suit: He wrote of a continuing “unchecked policy of extermination
through starvation, exhaustion, and brutality of treatment hardly
surpassed even in Turkish history.”

The word “genocide” was invented by Polish attorney Raphael Lemkin. He
spent his life getting such tragic events recognized and labeled.

Genocide is one group’s intent on destroying the members of another
group, not because of anything they did, but because of who they were.

The world at large and the American people were slow to learn about
the wretched remnants of the death marches, the orphaned children
and degradation of a people.

In 1946, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously passed a
resolution condemning genocide. The New York Times editors wrote:
“From now on no government may kill off a large block of its own
subjects or citizens of any country without impunity.”

The time is long overdue for the United States Congress to pass
still pending legislation recognizing the Armenian genocide that
began April 24, 1915, and lasted nearly three years.

Let your congressman know of your concern.

Republican Party Of Armenia Considers Any Denial Of Genocide Direct

REPUBLICAN PARTY OF ARMENIA CONSIDERS ANY DENIAL OF GENOCIDE DIRECT CONTINUATION OF THE CRIME

ARMENPRESS
APRIL 19, 2012
YEREVAN

YEREVAN, APRIL 19, ARMENPRESS: Republican Party of Armenia (RPA)
considers denial of any genocide a direct continuation of the crime,
Chairman of Republican Party of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said at a
meeting with the electors of Shengavit, Armenpress reports.

“Every day we will fight against that crime committed against us
and humanity. At the threshold of 100th anniversary of the Armenian
Genocide we will double our efforts for international recognition
and condemnation,” Serzh Sargsyan stressed.

He noted that the France’s bill criminalizing the denial of
the Armenian Genocide encouraged many, and the decision of the
Constitutional Council of France was disappointing for some of us. “I
call everyone for presence of mind and patience, as defense of the
rights and profits of Armenians in international area is actually a
very complicated process,” said Serzh Sargsyan adding that it will
take time and efforts.

RPA leader stressed that in contrast with some countries, Armenia
does not need lying or conducting a hostile propaganda. “The defense
of the historical and political truth is the important ingredient of
our foreign policy,” stressed Serzh Sargsyan.
