ARMENIAN MOD HOLDS WORKSHOP DEDICATED TO CHINESE PHILOSOPHER

YEREVAN. – Experts of the Chinese Military academy are on a visit to
Armenia from July 30 to August 2.

The Armenian MOD held on Wednesday a workshop devoted to life and work
of Chinese philosopher and author of the Art of War book on military
strategy Sun Wu, the Ministry informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, other military officials
and representatives of the Chinese Embassy, as well as the military
attache of China in Armenia participated in the conference.

Chinese Military academy employee delivered lectures, while other
experts answered Armenian military officials’ questions.

CASCADE AND “CAFESJIAN” ARTS CENTER DECORATE NEW SCULPTURES

YEREVAN, AUGUST 1, ARMENPRESS: Throughout the summer, tourists and
residents of Yerevan will enjoy the installation of a remarkable group
of new sculptures at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts, including
the Cafesjian Sculpture Garden, Cascade Complex and the green above
Monument Terrace. These sensational sculptures are additions to the
Gerard L. Cafesjian Collection and are arriving by sea, land and air
from London, Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Miami and Hong Kong.

Armenpress was informed about this from the responsible person for
public relations and marketing of the center Lilit Sokhakyan. Included
are major works by Fernando Botero, Barry Flanagan, Jim Unsworth and
Peter Hill Jones, among others.

Some are already in place to the delight of tourists and residents
alike. The massive sculpture, Circus, by British artist Jim Unsworth,
on the green above Monument terrace, features three balancing elephants
performing in a circus ring. The circus theme has inspired the artist
for some time and the elephant in particular is featured in most of
his recent works.

Also on the monument green is The little House, a charming and
delightful creation by Peter Hill Jones. Constructed of real building
materials, the work is site specific with the green itself becoming
part of the sculpture; forming the lawn and garden surrounding
this diminutive bit of architectural whimsy. A covey of exotic bird
sculptures will soon grace another part of the green as well.

One of the Colombian artist Fernando Botero’s most important works,
Mujer Fumando, will be installed in the Cafesjian Sculpture Garden.

Two wonderful works by British artist Barry Flanagan will join the
array of other Flanagan works already in the Garden. Atop the head
of the two elephants, hares perform with typical Flanagan aplomb.

Following a long engagement on Broadway, Verdi Square in New York
City, where it delighted New Yorkers, American artist Peter Woytuk’s
big blue Kiwi will find a home in the Cafesjian Sculpture Garden. It
is sure to delight children and visitors of all ages.

A cool, white marble Polar Bear by Chinese artist Zhaohui Liu, has
already joined Lion 2, by Korean artist Ji Yong-Ho, on the Cascade
in reminding visitors that art can also convey concerns about nature
an the manmade environment, as well as please the eye.

The Cafesjian Center for the Arts cordially invites tourists and
residents to enjoy summer in Yerevan discovering all the new artwork;
a part of the Center’s mission to present contemporary art in keeping
with the Cafesjian legacy for Armenia.

PanARMENIAN.Net – When interviewing expert Anzhela Elibegova last
month, I was surprised to hear her say Armenians have no idea of the
modern Azerbaijani society and better knowledge of it would stir up
cultural and psychological shock. However, yesterday I came across
a news article that confirmed the expert’s correctness.

Moscow-based Azerbaijani psychic Ziraddin Rzayevcommented on the
discussions following his participation in “Let’s get married” dating
show as the matchmaker of Armenian singer Mart Romanov (Radik Babayan).

During the show, Mart Romanov introduced Rzayev as his matchmaker
and friend. This sparked broad reaction in Azerbaijan and was long
a subject of discussion in social networks.

“Mart Romanov is no friend of mine. He is simply an acquaintance. The
singer has a Russia second name. However, his father proved to be an
Armenian. How should I know he had an Armenian family name, ending
in -yan. I don’t make friends with Armenians,” Rzayev said.

With these words Rzayev confessed to attaching importance to his
friends’ family names, rather than their personal qualities when
making friends. If such a reaction would be expected by Azerbaijani
resident in view of the country’s anti-Armenian propaganda, the fascist
reaction by a Diaspora Azerbaijani sparked surprise. However, it is
noteworthy that a person with an Azerbaijani second name would be
allowed to enter Armenia, even given the unsettled Nagorno Karabakh
conflict. I consider it unnecessary to remind of the various brawls
with different citizens because of their family name endings.

Thus, Rzayev’s statement reaffirmed the viability of Ramil Safarov’s
case among the Azerbaijanis. Whereas, bearers of family names ending
in -yan (ian) should be careful when communicating with “humanists”
residing in the neighboring country.

ARMENIANS DID NOT SUFFER FROM CLASHES IN CHRISTIAN DISTRICTS OF DAMASCUS

YEREVAN, AUGUST 1, ARMENPRESS: The clashes between governmental forces
and opposition reached the Christian districts of Damascus. Armenpress
reports calling Arabian media that anonymous source has informed that
in Bab Tuma and Bab Sharkghi districts of Old Damascus region had
begun clashes in the early morning of August 1. He explained that
the clashes in above-mentioned territory take place for the first time.

They lasted almost for thirty minutes. There is information that in
result of clashes a soldier has died.

Damascus Citizens of Armenian origin informed Armenpress that the
tension in Armenian community goes on: Armenians are afraid to come
out of their flats but in result of latest clahes the community did
not have any victims.

The clashes continue in the territory of Aleppo: the opposition forces
had significant losses. They have declared they would take the city
under control in several days.

On August 1 Free Congress Youths Initiative organizes a piquet in
front of the President’s Office.

The initiative demands to acquit 4 young activists of the Armenian
National Congress Artak Karapetyan, Davit Kiramijyan, Tigran Arakelyan
and Sargis Gevorgyan. The initiative demands to set Tigran Arakelyan
free and dismiss the case brought against Vahagn Gevorgyan, Sahak
Muradyan and Areg Gevorgyan.

The next demand of the initiative is to punish the policemen who used
violence against the young men and their advocates, as well as those
police officers who gave false evidence and those officials who forced
to give false evidence.

Elmar Mamediarov, a effectue une visite a Paris le 30 juillet 2012. Il
a ete recu par le ministre des Affaires etrangères en presence de la
ministre deleguee chargee des Francais de l’etranger.

Les deux ministres ont evoque les relations politiques confiantes
et les relations economiques en forte croissance entre la France et
l’Azerbaïdjan. Ils ont fait aussi le point sur les negociations en
cours pour regler pacifiquement le conflit du Haut-Karabagh dans le
cadre du Groupe de Minsk dont la France est co-presidente avec la
Russie et les Etats-Unis.

MANIFESTATION DE COMMERCANTS DANS UNE VILLE ARMENIENNE

Des douzaines de marchands ambulants ont manifeste dans la ville
armenienne de Tcharentsavan pour la quatrième journee consecutive
contre les autorites locales en raison des impôts. La plupart du
temps a faible revenu les commercants qui vendent des fruits et
legumes ont commence un sit-in sur la place principale de la ville
après avoir ete averti qu’ils devaient finalement s’inscrire auprès
des autorites fiscales et payer des impôts. Ils devront acheter des
caisses enregistreuses qui sont utilises pour determiner le montant
des revenus imposables dans de nombreuses entreprises en Armenie.

Les commercants, qui ont opere sans enregistrement officiel jusqu’a
maintenant rejetent cette demande, disant que le paiement de taxes
sur la valeur ajoutee les mettraient en faillite. Ils disent qu’ils
ne sont prets a payer un impôt forfaitaire unique percue par les
petites entreprises.

“Pourquoi ne pas definir certains raisonnable frais [fixes]” a declare
un homme a RFE / RL service armenie (Azatutyun.am).

“Nous allons continuer a travailler si nous pouvons les payer. Si non,
cela ne fonctionnera pas. ”

“Nous travaillons comme des ânes, mais ils ne nous laisseront pas
jouir des fruits de notre travail ” a dit une femme.

“Que pouvons-nous faire ? Nous voulons vivre “.

Arman Zargarian, chef de la branche de Tcharentsavan de la Commission
d’Etat des recettes(SRC), a rejete ces demandes, en disant que les
manifestants demandent effectivement un traitement privilegie par
le gouvernement.

“Je ne peux pas comprendre les raisons de leur mecontentement”
a-t-il dit.

“Ces entites economiques n’ont aucune idee de la fiscalite” a affirme
Arman Zargarian.

“Comment peut-on parler d’elever ou abaisser les impôts quand les
gens font des affaires illegalement ?” a precise le fonctionnaire qui
a averti que les commercants devront faire face a de lourdes amendes
s’ils continuent a eviter de payer leurs impôts.

“Ces sanctions financières seraient beaucoup plus eleves que les
impôts exiges auprès d’eux” a-t-il dit.

Situe a 30 kilomètres au nord d’Erevan, Tcharentsavan etait autrefois
une ville industrielle avec plusieurs grandes usines. La plupart de
ces usines de l’ère sovietique ont fonctionne au ralenti depuis les
annees 1990, entraînant un chômage très eleve.

LES CONDUCTEURS D’AUTOBUS EN GRAVE CONTRE ” LA BIENVEILLANCE ” DE TSARUKIAN

Plusieurs douzaines de conducteurs d’autobus ont fait grève disant
qu’ils risquent de perdre leurs emplois a cause du système de libre
transport public patronne par Gagik Tsarukian, un homme d’affaires
millionnaire dirigeant le deuxième parti d’Armenie.

L’action de protestation a semble etre la dernière torsion de la
discussion houleuse entre Tsarukian et Artur Harutiunian, son ancien
protege et associe dans les affaires base a Abovian, une ville a 15
kilomètres au nord d’Erevan.

Artur Harutiunian a quitte le parti Armenie Prospère (BHK) a la fin de
l’annee dernière, defiant ouvertement le magnat dans un secteur qui
a longtemps ete considere comme de facto son fief. Quelques articles
dans les medias lient la situation avec la degradation des relations
entre le BHK et le parti Republicain du President Serge Sarkissian
(HHK), dont Harutiunian est un membre.

Au debut de cette annee Tsarukian a lance par charite une liason par
autobus entre Erevan et Abovian et une autre ville Charentsavan. La
volonte etait de nuire a la compagnie d’autobus King Delux appartenant
a Artur Harutiunian sur les liaisons Erevan – Abovian et Erevan –
Charentsavan. Plus de 100 personnes conduisant ses bus et les recettes
ont souffert en consequence.

Les conducteurs ont condamne les activites censees etre bienveillantes
de Tsarukian. ” Cela n’est pas cense aider les gens, cela est cense
nous arreter de transporter des passagers ” a dit l’un d’entre eux
au service armenien de RFE/RL (Azatutyun.am).

” C’est de la bienveillance pour certaines personnes et la famine
pour d’autres ” a dit un autre conducteur. Il a averti que les
protestataires bloqueront la route principale si les autorites ne
remedient pas a la situation.

Artur Dallakian, directeur de King Deluxe, a dit que la societe a
deja pose des plaintes formelles au Ministère des Transports et a
la Commission d’Etat pour la Protection de la Competition Economique
contre ce qu’il considère comme des actions illegales par la fondation
de Gagik Tsarukian. ” Je vois seulement des motifs personnels [derrière
cela] ” a-t-il dit au service armenien de RFE/RL (Azatutyun.am).

Les representants de Tsarukian ont nie, cependant, que le magnat tient
a pousser son ex-protege dans la faillite. ” La fondation Tsarukian
fait divers travails de charite dans tout le pays et les transports
gratuits continueront ” a dit Vahe Hovannisian, un depute du BHK qui
coordonne les activites de charite.

En parlant au service armenien de RFE/RL, Hovannisian n’a pas nie
que Tsarukian n’a pas patronne des transports gratuits dans d’autres
parties de l’Armenie.

Un autre depute du BHK, Elinar Vartanian, a accuse le proprietaire
de la compagnie de bus de ” mauvais entrepreneur ” et l’a accuse
de forcer les conducteurs a faire la grève. Dans une declaration
ecrite, elle a dit que trois autres societes de transport ont offert
d’embaucher ces conducteurs ” en de bons termes “.

Rien n’indique a qui ces societes sont la propriete.

LES ARMENIENS DE SYRIE TENTENT DE FUIR LES COMBATS ENTRE LE GOUVERNEMENT ET LES REBELLES

La compagnie aerienne nationale de l’Armenie poursuit ses vols
hebdomadaires a destination d’Alep, ce qui permet aux Syriens d’origine
armenienne de fuir le pays où de violents combats ont lieu entre les
troupes gouvernementales et les rebelles. Le transporteur Armavia
s’est engage mardi 31 juillet a assurer cinq vols supplementaires
durant le mois d’août. La societe privee a declare qu’il etait
necessaire d’evacuer les Syriens d’origine armenienne du pays. Un
avion de la compagnie Armavia a vole a Alep lundi avec environ 150
passagers d’origine armenienne. A l’arrivee a l’aeroport Zvartnots
d’Erevan, les passagers ont affirme que les combats n’ont pas lieu
dans la ville qui abrite la communaute armenienne. Mais beaucoup ont
peur de quitter leurs foyers en raison des tirs et des explosions a
proximite des zones residentielles.

” Si les choses continuent comme ca, si la guerre s’eternise,
le sort des Armeniens sera difficile “, a dit un homme a RFE / RL
(Azatutyun.am).

Armavia a annonce vendredi qu’elle continuera a effectuer les vols
Erevan-Alep, malgre l’intensification des combats en Syrie. La
societe privee a egalement exprime la volonte de rendre le service
plus frequent et moins cher si elle recoit une aide financière du
gouvernement armenien. Armavia a annonce les cinq vols supplementaires,
malgre l’absence de reponse officielle du gouvernement pour le
moment. Sans subventions du gouvernement, la societe ne devrait pas
baisser ses tarifs. Armavia a ete vivement critiquee par l’opposition
et d’autres groupes non gouvernementaux en Armenie pour avoir augmente
le prix des billets d’avion recemment.

Hrach Asadurian, un concessionnaire automobile d’Alep, s’est rendu
en Armenie en voiture, via la Turquie et la Georgie, avec sa femme et
ses trois enfants le mois dernier car il n’a pas pu acheter de billets
d’avion. Des Syriens d’origine armenienne ont critique le gouvernement
armenien pour ne pas leur avoir fourni un logement et trouver un
emploi. 3000 visas armeniens auraient ete delivrees cette annee en
Syrie. Aujourd’hui, certains retournent en Syrie, malgre les combats.

C’est le cas de Seda Leplejian qui a repris l’avion pour Alep avec son
mari. Le couple s’est rendu en Armenie pour obtenir leurs nouveaux
passeports. Le couple reviendra en Armenie si la violence en Syrie
continue.

ARMENIAN, TURKISH YOUTH TOGETHER AGAIN ON STAGE

Young Turkish and Armenian musicians will come together once again on
stage tonight at Istanbul’s Bosphorus University. The Turkish-Armenian
Youth Symphony Orchestra will also perform in Berlin on Aug 3

Istanbul’s Bosphorus University will tonight host the Armenian-Turkish
Youth Symphony Orchestra, consisting of 56 young musicians from Turkey
and Armenia.

The concert will be conducted by the Akbank Chamber Orchestra’s
conductor Cem Mansur, with pianist Ashot Khachatourian on stage as
the soloist.

Young people from Armenia and Turkey first came together to form an
orchestra in July 2010, with the support of Bosphorus University
and the Turkish non-governmental organization Anadolu Kultur. Cem
Mansur and Nvart Andreasyan were the brains behind the orchestra,
and through it aim to contribute to peace between the two countries.

The orchestra performed three successful cztuoncerts at the Bosphorus
University, Buyukada Island and Cemal ReÅ~_it Rey Concert Hall in
its first year.

The orchestra, which has reunited upon the invitation of the Young
Euro Classic Festival, will also take the stage on Aug. 3 in Berlin,
one of Europe’s most lively cultural cities. Two concerts in Istanbul
and Berlin are being organized with support from the German and Turkish
foreign ministries, the Enka Cultural Foundation, Tower Tourism and
Fineco. Armenian conductor Andreasyan discussed the orchestra in an
interview with the Hurriyet Daily News in 2010.

“Our plan means gathering young people in an environment where there
is no chance to lose. The environment is international and it is
based in music,” she said.

Mansur said their aim was for the young musicians to become friends.

He took part in a similar project in 2008 and 2009 in South Africa,
adding, “In South Africa I conducted an orchestra with youth of
different races and saw the power of music. Before the project
those young people in South Africa hated each other because of the
misunderstandings that their races had gone through. By the end of
our project, those young people hugged each other. Through the power
of music, hatred left and in its place came love.”

Rehearsal since July 23

Young Armenian musicians have been holding rehearsals with their
Turkish counterparts since July 23. At the Bosphorus University concert
they will perform works by Beethoven and Alexander Spendiaryan,
as well as Turkish composer Ferit Tuzun. Tonight’s soloist, Ashot
Khachatourian has performed in Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany,
the U.S., Spain, Holland and Belgium, and has worked with renowned
artists such as Yuri Bashmet, Misha Maisky, Ivan Monighetti, Liana
Issakadze and Zakhar Bron.

The concert will take place at the university’s Garanti Cultural
Center at 8 p.m tonight.
