Paper: producer Hrach Keshishyan appointed Armenia TV’s executive director

PanARMENIAN.Net – According to Haykakan Zhamanak daily, film director
and producer Hrach Keshishyan has been appointed as Armenia TV’s
executive director.
Though the paper failed to get in touch with Keshishyan, TV station
representative confirmed the information.

YEREVAN.- There is a possibility of Turkey’s military intervention in
Syria, Director of Institute of Oriental Studies Ruben Safrastyan told
reporters on Monday.
Another scenario suggests that assistance rendered to rebels will be
reduced. `Nevertheless, taking into account Ankara’s policy, the
likelihood of military actions is increasing,’ he added.
Safrastyan believes military intervention was one of the issues
discussed during Secretary Clinton’s recent visit to Turkey.
`Most likely, the issue of possible NATO military operation was
discussed. However, the alliance is not ready to launch military
campaign at least till the U.S. presidential election scheduled for
the end of this year. It is proved by Clinton’s proposal to set up a
joint working group,’ Safrastyan noted.
`Kurdish spring’ looming over Near East
Independent Kurdistan won’t consider Ankara, Baghdad or Damascus; it
has everything it needs ` the oil, the key advantage in the Near East.
The `Arab spring’ is gradually transforming into the `Kurdish spring’;
at least this is what the recent frequent clashes between the Turkish
regular army and the Kurdish population of Syria, and, to some extent,
Iran, resemble now. Apparently, the Kurds realized that the current
mess in the Near East may aid them in creating independent Kurdistan
and thus taking control over oil flows not only from Iraq but Syria as
well.

PanARMENIAN.Net – Turkey, faced with the Kurdish issue for several
decades now, plays a major part in preventing such scenario. The
Turkish regular army keeps trying to annihilate Kurdish militants from
the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), yet to no avail. Penetration onto
the territory of sovereign Iraq under the veil of Kurdish camp
destruction also ends up in failure. In addition, there are Syrian
Kurds united to form the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), which
has close links with PKK. Furthermore, the Kurdish Pejak party banned
in Iran and other independent groups of Kurdish militants also cause
serious damage to Turkey.
The failed `zero problems with neighbours’ policy by Ahmet Davutoglu
stirred talks on his resignation on top governmental level in Turkey,
since Turkey’s foreign policy has turned into a `problem with almost
all its neighbours’. Also, it is worth noting that in collusion with
Assad, PYD controls key regions in north-eastern Syria. Unification of
Kurdish groups will most likely result in a total nightmare for
Turkey, with independent Kurdistan being established on the territory
of Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. Also, there is the Kurdish National
Council (KNC) operating in Syria; it comprises 11 parties which have
no disagreements with either Assad or the Iraqi Kurds.
ErtuÄ?rul Ã-zkök, columnist for the Hürriyet paper asks a quite
reasonable question: `We could not manage a 400 kilometer Kurdish
border. How are we going to manage 1,200 kilometers?’
`Arabs are fighting each other; Kurds are winning. The Kurds are
taking one more step on their path to an independent state. Besides,
they are able to achieve this without firing one bullet. So where is
Turkey’s Foreign Minister?’ Ã-zkök says.
And, of course, the oil: two Kirkuk`Ceyhan strategic oil and gas
pipelines are the trump the Kurds can successfully play; actually,
they are quite likely to do so. Independent Kurdistan won’t consider
Ankara, Baghdad or Damascus.It has everything it needs ` the oil, the
key advantage in the Near East.
If you have no oil, you have to adjust to others, while oil resources
make others adjust to you.
Meanwhile, the Turkish authorities threatened Syria with intervention
declaring they won’t allow Kurdish separatists use the territory of
this country for their bases. At the same time, Turkey keeps deploying
troops at the 900-km Syrian border.
The Turkish government is concerned about the circumstance that Syrian
Kurds take control over increasingly large number of settlements near
the Turkish border, while the Syrian government continues battling
against the rebels in other regions of the country.
`We won’t tolerate establishment of terrorist structure near our
border, be it al Qaeda or PKK’ Ahmet Davutoglu told the Turkish TV.
`This is a matter of our national security, and we will take the
necessary action,’ he said. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ErdoÄ?an made a
similar statement last week. The Kurdish separatism emerges again, and
many Turkish generals believe the risk becomes increasingly larger for
Turkey.

political expert said.
Stanislav Tarasov deemed Kyiv as the leading party in Ukrainian-Azeri relations.
`Baku has missed the chance of pursuing active policy in post-soviet
area. The so-called `Arab Spring’ is already aiming for Baku,’ he said
in interview with Analitika.at.ua, commenting on Azeri media attempts
to draw the Ukraine into anti-Armenian propaganda campaign.

According to the data of the NKR Defense army, last week the
Azerbaijani side violated the ceasefire regime 200 times at the line
of contact between the armed forces of Nagorno Karabakh and
Azerbaijan.
The rival fired more than 1,000 shots from weapons of different
caliber in the direction of the Armenian positions.
Committed to the maintenance of the ceasefire regime, divisions of the
NKR Defense Army refrained from responding to the provocative actions
of he rival and confidently carried out their military duty.
Romney nominated a pro-Armenian activist in the USA vice president position

Yerevan, August 11, ARMENPRESS: The Republican Mitt Romney fighting
for the position of the USA president made a decision to nominate a
member of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan from the Virginia
state as a vice president. Ryan is famous for his pro-Armenian
positions. He was one of the NO 252 resolution supporters of the House
of Parliaments in the Armenian Genocide recognition and condemn, he is
a member of the Congress committee on the Armenian issues. The
Armenian trial committee in the USA marked him A. Senator Biden has
also been assessed with such a mark. `A member of the House of
Representatives Ryan was highly appreciated from A to F due to the
legislative and political positive activity in the Armenian Genocide
Recognition. He positively displayed himself also in the human rights
the American Armenians are concerned about and other foreign political
issues’, ANCA informed in response to the question raised by
`Armenpress’.
Romney will officially represent the vice president on August 11
during the visit to Norfolk. Romney’s candidature for the presidential
position will be officially nominated in the republican Congress to be
held in Florida August 27-30.
The head coach of Olympic champion US water polo female team is Armenian

YEREVAN, AUGUST 13, ARMENPRESS: The head coach of United States Water
polo female team, which gained gold medal in the 30th Olympic Games in
London, is Armenian Adam Krikorian. Armenpress reports calling Asbarez
that the famous water polo coach have 14 times won the highest prize
of Õ’nited States of America.
Krikorian led UCLA to its first NCAA Championship in 23 years (1995).
While at UCLA, Krikorian scored 76 goals and was a four-year
letterwinner (1992`1995). He was named to the second-team All-America
and All-MPSF honoree in 1995. He was the captain of the UCLA team in
1994 and 1995.
As the head coach of the USA Women’s Water Polo Team, Krikorian
coached his team to the gold medal at the World Championships in Rome,
Italy on July 31, 2009, defeating Canada, 6-5.
In October 2011, Adam led the team to the gold medal at the Pan
American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Vols en provenance d’Alep, des négociations sont en cours
Le gouvernement arménien a soulevé la question des Arméniens de Syrie
qui souffrent des conséquences de la guerre civile. Selon un décret
émis jeudi le gouvernement offre la possibilité à tous les Arméniens
qui sont citoyens d’un certain nombre de pays (incluant la Syrie)
d’obtenir un visa d’entrée aux points de contrôle des frontières
d’Arménie. Auparavant les citoyens d’origine arménienne ne pouvaient
obtenir un visa d’entrée qu’à l’Ambassade ou au Consulat d’Arménie du
pays étranger et seulement sur invitation de l’Arménie.
Le gouvernement fait mention des préoccupations émises par les
Arméniens de Syrie, qui rencontrent des difficultés pour obtenir un
passeport arménien et doivent effectuer de nombreux allers- retours en
Arménie. Le gouvernement a établi la liste des pays dont les citoyens
pourront dans certains cas (en cas de guerre) obtenir pour la première
fois, un passeport arménien à l’Ambassade ou au Consulat d’Arménie du
pays étranger : le Liban et la Syrie font partie de cette liste.
Parallèlement, des négociations sont en cours entre le gouvernement et
Armavia Airlines pour augmenter les vols entre Alep et Erevan à deux
vols par semaine. Un vol hebdomadaire est aussi effectué par la Syrian
Airlines. Les ventes de billets de ces deux compagnies sont épuisées
jusqu’en septembre. Armavia a été régulièrement critiquée pour avoir
limité le nombre des vols et augmenté le prix des billets. La
compagnie d’aviation prétend que ces critiques sont sans fondement,
car contrairement aux pays européens Armavia continue à transporter
des passagers dans la zone de guerre, ce qui représente de hauts
risques en matière d’assurances et des dépenses substantielles.
Armavia a officiellement annoncé qu’il lui serait possible d’ajouter
un autre vol hebdomadaire avec l’accord et une subvention du
gouvernement (le gouvernement l’a fait en 2006 durant le conflit
Libanno-Israëlien).
« Selon la législation aérienne internationale, la fréquence des vols
ne peut augmenter qu’en accord avec les gouvernements, ce qui signifie
qu’Armavia ne peut augmenter les vols de sa propre initiative. » a dit
un représentant Armavia à ArmeniaNow.

CEREMONIE DE CLOTURE DES J.O. DE LONDRES
L’Arménie en manque d’or olympique a fait ses adieux à Londres hier soir
Adieu Londres, bonjour Rio ! Hier soir dans la superbe nuit magique
londonienne le monde était une nouvelle fois ébloui par la cérémonie
de clôture des 30e Jeux Olympiques de Londres. Une superbe
organisation, tout comme la cérémonie d’ouverture, regardée par
plusieurs milliards de téléspectateurs. L’Arménie avec le
porte-drapeau, le vice-champion olympique Arsen Djoulfalakian faisait
une nouvelle entrée au stade olympique de Londres pour un dernier
adieu. Derrière cette cérémonie dans une ambiance de fraternité et de
joie, chaque nation faisait ses comptes. Les Etats-Unis, la Chine, la
Grande-Bretagne et la Russie sont en tête du tableau des médailles où
figurent 85 pays sur les 204 nations engagées à ces J.O.
Trois médailles pour l’Arménie mais aucune en or !
L’Arménie dont on pouvait légitimement espérer un à deux titres
olympiques affichait une 60e place au classement avec une médaille
d’argent et deux de bronze. Pas une d’or ! Certains peuvent se réjouir
de voir l’Arménie figure au rang des nations médaillées en compagnie
de la Belgique et de la Finlande et largement devant des pays tels que
le Maroc, la Malaisie, l’Indonésie, la Bulgarie, l’Estonie, Chypre, la
Grèce ou la Moldavie.
L’Azerbaïdjan totalise 10 médailles dont 2 d’or
Mais cet optimisme pour l’Arménie est de courte durée lorsqu’on sait
que l’Azerbaïdjan qui a donné au sport un statut quasi-officiel suivi
par l’Etat a totalisé 10 médailles et pointe en 30e position au
tableau des médailles avec deux titres olympiques, deux médailles
d’argent et six de bronze. L’Azerbaïdjan qui gagna ses deux médailles
d’or en lutte libre, les autres également en lutte, en haltérophilie
et en boxe. Le président-dictateur Aliev qui avait quitté la salle des
compétitions peu avant la victoire du lutteur arménien Arsen
Djoulfalakian devant son adversaire Azéri afin de ne pas être humilié
peut toutefois se réjouir. Sa politique de financement du sport de
compétition -grce à la manne financière du pétrole et du gaz- a été
payante en terme de résultats !
Le richissime et influent Gaguik Dzaroukian, président du Comité
national olympique arménien peut de son côté dormir sur ses deux
oreilles et ses gros biceps. L’Arménie n’a gagné aucun titre
olympique. Il n’aura donc pas à honorer sa promesse d’offrir 700 000
dollars à une médaille d’or olympique de l’Arménie. L’Arménie dont la
première et dernière médaille d’or olympique remonte aux J.O.
d’Atlanta (1996) peut encore attendre quatre ans. Qui sait ? A Rio, à
l’occasion du 20e anniversaire de cette première médaille d’or
olympique sous les couleurs du tricolore arménien, l’Arménie pourrait
espérer enfin une seconde médaille…
L’Etat arménien, les Fédérations sportives et le Comité olympique
responsables de ce semi-échec ?
Sans toutefois porter un regard accusateur sur les autorités sportives
d’Arménie, les Fédérations, le ministère de la Jeunesse et des Sports
et surtout le Comité national olympique arménien, on peut toutefois
constater l’échec de l’Arménie et de cette politique d’encouragement
du sport de haut niveau…si toutefois les autorités d’Erévan avaient
mis en place cette politique…ce que l’on peut également douter.
Que nos dirigeants et businessmans -si nombreux au Parlement arménien
et dans toutes les sphères politiques du pays- si prompts à porter des
toasts arrosés à la gloire de l’Arménie et de la nation arménienne
soutiennent plus efficacement l’émergence du sport de compétition en
Arménie. Qu’ils investissent une partie des sommes colossales qu’ils
dépensent sans compter à l’étranger dans la préparation des nouveaux
champions. Il en va de l’honneur national et de l’image de l’Arménie
sur la scène internationale. Le sport étant un ambassadeur de choix
pour faire connaître le pays devant des centaines de millions de
personnes à travers le monde.
A noter que la Géorgie voisine a quant à elle 7 médailles (dont une
d’or et trois d’argent) et pointe à la 32e place au classement général
des médailles. La Turquie a quant à elle 5 médailles (dont deux d’or),
ce qui est semble-t-il très peu pour cet Etat de près de 80 millions
d’habitants.

Congressman Ryan brings to the national Republican ticket a long
legislative record as an advocate for U.S. reaffirmation of the
Armenian Genocide – co-sponsoring legislation to commemorate this
crime, and co-signing a number of Congressional letters asking
President Bush and Obama to honor their commitments to properly
recognize this atrocity as a genocide, said ANCA Executive Director
Aram Hamparian commenting for the Armenian News-NEWS.am information on
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) running for vice president.
“Much like the current vice president, Joe Biden, Representative Ryan
enters the presidential race with ‘A’ ratings from the ANCA,” noted
Hamparian. “We look to the Romney-Ryan ticket to publicly share their
views on issues of special concern to Armenian American voters, and
also to the Obama-Biden White House to explain their policies on
matters of particular interest to our community, so that Armenian
American voters can make fully informed choices at the ballot box this
November.”

presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney announced him as his pick on
Saturday morning.
