YEREVAN. – An Armenian delegation, led by Deputy Minister of
Agriculture Armen Poghosyan, is also partaking in the 28th Regional
Conference of UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which
started on Tuesday in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.

Armenia’s delegation safely arrived in Baku, and there is no tension
by the Azerbaijanis, the Agriculture Ministry informed Armenian
News-NEWS.am.

The Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ilham Guliyev stated
that their country’s respective agencies will ensure the security of
the Armenian delegation.

The Conference will come to a close on Friday.

Armenia is a FAO member since 1993.

The forthcoming EU-Armenia and EU-Azerbaijan association agreements
must contribute to a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict, which is “hampering the full development of the European
neighbourhood policy”, say MEPs in two draft resolutions to be voted
on Wednesday, EU press service told Armenpress..

In their draft recommendations to the Council, Commission and European
External Action Service, MEPs also insist that the agreements must
promote democracy and press freedom in Armenia and Azerbaijan, and
that human rights clauses must be included in both agreements.

Negotiations on association agreements to promote political association
and economic integration between the EU and both countries started
July 2010. Visa facilitation dialogues with both countries were
launched in February 2011.

YEREVAN.- The results of Armenia’s parliamentary elections will not
affect the relations with Russia, head of Caucasus Institute Alexander
Iskandaryan said during a Wednesday space bridge.

“I think the elections will have no impact on Armenia-Russia relations,
as not a single political party casts doubt on the format of the
bilateral relations,” he stressed.

Russian political analyst, head of the Scientific Society of Caucasian
Experts Alexander Krilov shared his opinion pointing out tensed
situation in the Middle East and situation over Nagorno-Karabakh.

“The situation demands that Armenia should have firm security
guarantees which Russia can give,” he said.

The parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for May 6, 2012.

Humanitarian Council under the President of Ukraine stressed the
need to take active steps aimed at raising awareness on the Armenian
Genocide.

“Every Ukrainian should be aware of the tragedy that befell Armenians,”
Anailitka.at.ua quoted Mikhail Beletsky as saying during a roundtable
on “Armenian Genocide: Impunity generates relapse.”

On April 13, Kyiv hosted a roundtable on “Armenian Genocide: Impunity
generates relapse.” The discussion featured a screening of a film
titled “Ordinary Genocide: Maragha, April 10, 1992,” released
by the Public Relations and Information Center at RA President’s
Administration.

The event brought together prominent Ukrainian political analysts,
scientists, journalists, public and political figures, representatives
of the Cossacks.

The roundtable also featured a discussion of the text of the address
to Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych and Chairman of the Verkhovna
Rada Volodymyr Lytvyn with a request to recognize April 24 as Armenian
Genocide Remembrance Day on a legislative level.

affiliates, in Italy and Kuwait,

These additions to the fund’s family of affiliates lend special
significance to 2012, which marks the 20th anniversary of the
pan-Armenian organization. Today the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund is
represented worldwide by 25 affiliates in 23 countries, the Public

La croissance economique en Armenie a ete de 4,6 pour cent l’annee
dernière conformement aux projections du gouvernement, selon les
donnees officielles publiees.

L’economie armenienne avait connu une croissance de 2 pour cent en
2010 après une forte baisse en 2009 cause par la crise financière.

Les dernières donnees macroeconomiques du Service National de
la Statistique (NSS) montrent que la croissance provient des
secteurs agricoles et de la production manufacturière. La production
industrielle est en hausse de 14 pour cent et a represente plus d’un
quart du PIB de l’Armenie soit 3,82 trillions de drams (environ 10
milliards de $).

Selon le NSS, la croissance dans la production agricole a ete
importante grâce aux conditions meteorologiques favorables. La part du
secteur dans l’economie atteinte environ 22 pour cent en consequence.

La croissance 2011 aurait ete plus importante sans la nouvelle baisse
a deux chiffres dans le secteur de la construction. Ce secteur a
toujours du mal a se remettre de la crise de 2009.

Le gouvernement armenien s’attend a ce que l’economie soit en hausse
de 4,2 pour cent cette annee. Les fonctionnaires du gouvernement
reconnaissent, cependant que la perspective economique au niveau
mondial pourrait se traduire par une croissance plus lente.

Le Fonds Monetaire International la semaine dernière a revise a la
baisse sa projection de croissance pour l’Armenie. Un fonctionnaire
du FMI a dit a Erevan que la croissance devrait probablement ralentir
a 3,8 pour cent en 2012.

lundi dernier et couverte par les agences de presse azerbaïdjanaises.

” Une guerre de l’information est menee contre nous … Le
lobby armenien est particulièrement actif dans cette guerre de
l’information. Les tentatives visant a denigrer l’Azerbaïdjan, a
nier la realite de l’Azerbaïdjan, a presenter l’Azerbaïdjan vers le
monde exterieur comme un pays arriere et antidemocratique resultent
principalement de contrats sales du lobby armenien “, a dit Aliyev
dans les remarques citees par l’agence de nouvelles officielle Azertag.

” La portee de leur influence est assez large. Ils [les Armeniens]
sont representes dans differents medias a travers le monde. “,
a ajoute Aliyev.

Le gouvernement azerbaïdjanais est sous contrôle international en
matière de droits humains. Dans des rapports recents cites par les
medias occidentaux, Amnesty International et Human Rights Watch
ont vivement critique le gouvernement qui censure l’opposition
et emprisonne les dissidents. Il y a meme eu des appels dans le
Parlement europeen, de militants des droits de l’homme et des
blogueurs azerbaïdjanais pour boycotter le concours international
de l’eurovision.

L’Armenie a decide de ne pas participer au concours le mois dernier
car il aura lieu cette annee a Bakou. Le chef de l’Azerbaïdjan a
declare lundi 16 avril : ” Pour nous, l’ennemi numero un est le lobby
armenien. Nous devons etre prets a se battre contre lui. ”

EGOYAN REVISITS HIS FILM “ARARAT”
Renown film director highlights public lectures at the University of Michigan

Ann Arbor, Mich. April 18, 2012. Award winning internationally renown
author, producer and film director Atom Egoyan discussed his famous
film “Ararat” on March 19, 2012 at the University of Michigan, Ann
Arbor, at the invitation of the Armenian Studies Program at that
university. Egoyan was the designated 2012 “Dr. Berj H. Haidostian
Annual Distinguished Lecturer,” on the occasion of the 10th
anniversary of the release of that epochal film.

With fourteen films and related projects to his credit, Atom Egoyan
has won numerous internationally recognized awards including five
prizes at the Cannes Film Festival, two Academy award nominations,
eight Genie Awards as well as major awards at film festivals in
Hamburg, Tokyo, Jerusalem, Reykjavik, Las Palmas, Hong Kong, Cairo and
Athens. In 2010 Egoyan had a retrospective of his films at the
Filmoteca Espagnol in Madrid, following similar events in previous
years in Paris and New York.

In this lecture titled “Ararat-Ten years After,” Atom Egoyan discussed
the genesis of the idea for that work, the challenges he faced when
making it, and the various and conflicting responses he received
following the release of “Ararat.”

Mr. Egoyan’s thought provoking lecture, attended by a large and
diverse public and webcast live, was followed by an extended period of
questions and answers. The session will be made available on the
program’s website soon, ().

The “Dr. Berj H. Haidostian Distinguished Annual Lecture” was
established by the family of the late Dr. Berj H. Haidostian, a
prominent and devoted physician, in honor of his long relationship
with the University of Michigan and the Armenian Studies Program.
Recent Haidostian Distinguished Lecturers have included Dr. Gerard
Chaliand of Paris, Dr. Fiona Hill of the Brookings Institution, Mr.
Thomas de Waal of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Dr.
Vartan Gregorian of the Carnegie Foundation, Armenia’s Ambassador to
the US Arman Kirakosian, and the US Ambassador to Armenia John Evans.

Mr Egoyan’s lecture highlighted a year rich with public lectures,
marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Alex
Manoogian Chair in Modern Armenian History and the Armenian Studies
Program itself.

In addition to events related to the 30th anniversary, the fall 2011
schedule included lectures by professors Kevork Bardakjian (“How to
Petition for Poetic Grace?: Kostandin Erznkac’i’s ‘Strange’
Vision-poem” ), Ronald Suny (“The New Turkey and the Issue of
Genocide: Armenians in a Progressive Imagination”) and Gerard
Libaridian (“From Historian to Accidental Diplomat: The Writing of
History Before & After Participating in its Making”)of the University
of Michigan; Professor Azat Yeghiazaryan, Yerevan, (“Charents and
Revolution,” and Professor Artin Aslanian of Maris College, New York,
(“The British Imperial Ethos: Britain & Transcaucasia, 1917-1920”).

The public lectures in the Winter 2012 semester included Dr. Hikmet
Hadjy-Zadeh, Baku, (“Azerbaijan: 20 Years of Independence”), and
Manoogian Simone Post-doctoral Fellows Dr. Levon Petrosyan (“Gregory
of Narek and the Narekian Fathers: The Mystery of Love from the
Commentary of Song of Songs to the Book of Lamentations,”) and Dr.
Arsen Saparov (“Why Autonomy? The Making of Nagorno-Karabakh 1918-1925”.

GLENDALE, CA Glendale Public Library invites the public to a one day
conference, on Issues facing Armenia and the Diaspora, on Saturday, May
19, 2012 from 11AM to 4PM at the Glendale Central Library Auditorium,
222 East Harvard Street. Admission is free and the seating is limited.
