PanARMENIAN.Net – Political scientist named mass falsification as the
key method of Azerbaijani authorities’ activity in the information war.

As Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told a press conference, they spend
enormous amount of money on printing literature about Nagorno Karabakh
and the Armenians.

“Azerbaijanis, doubtlessly surpass Armenians in number of literature
released,” Mr. Melik-Shahnazaryan said, adding that Azeri literature
on the subject mainly is not taken seriously by researchers or by
educated people.

The expert further named insufficient coverage of events, lack of
professional journalists in each field and use of unfiltered Internet
as the main shortcomings of the Armenian media.

DAVTYAN SAYS RESOLUTION IS EVIDENCE TURKEY ‘CANNOT ADVANCE’

“Closed borders are not only unacceptable, but incomprehensible for
the international community and yet it’s not surprising that such a
resolution has highlighted the impermissibility of closed borders,”
Republican MP Artak Davtyan told Panorama.am commenting on resolution
adopted by EU-Armenia Association Agreement.

MP Artak Davtyan has underlined that the international community and
foreign colleagues have repeatedly highlighted the impermissibility
of blocking a country and imposing preconditions.

Closed borders are unacceptable for the European Union,
particularly when not only Armenian-Turkish border is closed, but
Armenian-Azerbaijani is.

The Republican MP said the resolution is evidence that having closed
borders Turkey “cannot advance” in the EU membership process and
greatly harms its own reputation.

Assemblymember Anthony Portantino and Staff Commemorate Armenian Genocide

Beginning last Sunday night at the University of Southern California
Armenian Studies Institute gala, where a $7 million dollar endowment
for the Armenian Studies department was announced and celebrated,
Assemblymember Anthony Portantino and District Representative Hovanes
Gasparian began the solemn celebration of Genocide week in California
. On Thursday, Portantino joined Assemblymember Katcho Achadjian in
presenting HR 27 on the floor of the State Assembly. “I was humbled
and moved to join my friend Katcho in commemorating the 97th year
since these heinous acts were committed against a proud people,”
commented Portantino. Portantino also co-authored SJR 23, presented in
the Senate by Senator Joe Simitian.

The ceremony was followed by the screening of Dr. Kay Mouradian’s
poignant film about her mother’s story of survival during the Armenian
Genocide, titled “My Mother’s Voice.” Dr. Mouradian is a constituent
whose moving film tells a story we can all share.

On the evening of April 23, Portantino’s legislative representative
for Armenian outreach, Hovanes Gasparian, will serve as the Master of
Ceremonies for the Armenian Genocide Commemoration to be held at
Bicknell Park in Montebello. Tenie Khachikian from Portantino’s
office will be attending a Candlelight Vigil and Service at
St. Gregory’s in Pasadena, which takes place concurrently with the
event in Montebello. On April 24, Mr. Gasparian will attend
additional Genocide Commemorations in both Pasadena and Montebello.

“I am blessed to join my friends and colleagues, Hovanes and Tenie, in
recognizing the first genocide of the 20th century and I implore our
country to follow California’s lead, sending a message that living in
denial serves no one and disrespects an entire culture and people.
Certainly, Hovanes and Tenie have personal and family stories that
make this day and week heartfelt and significant for them and their
families. I wish them and all Californians of Armenian descent well
as we remember and commit to always remembering the tragedy of
1915,”concluded Portantino.

March To Be Held In Istanbul For Armenian Soldier Killed In Turkish

MARCH TO BE HELD IN ISTANBUL FOR ARMENIAN SOLDIER KILLED IN TURKISH ARMY

NEWS.AM

A march will be organized in Istanbul on Saturday in memory of Sevag
Sahin Balikci, the Istanbul Armenian who was killed, on April 24,
2011, in a military unit while serving in the Turkish army.

“The criminal and murderer mindset that killed Sevag Sahin are not
condemned yet. We again see that now, just as in 1915, they protect
the killers of Armenians in this country, and they are not punished.

And the authorities incite fascism and discrimination in the squares,”
reads the statement issued by Nor Zartonk (New Awakening) Armenian
website of Istanbul.

Sevag Balikci was killed by fellow soldier Kivanc Agaoglu, but the
Turkish gendarmerie had stated that the death had occurred accidentally
while the soldiers were joking around. Sevag’s parents assert that
he was killed for being Armenian.

Agaoglu was released at the very first court hearing, and on the
grounds that he had no reason to escape. But at Diyarbakir Military
Court, an anonymous senior officer had stated that, after Sevag’s
murder, an eyewitness soldier had told him that Kivanc Agaoglu had
told Sevag: “Chubby, I will kill you!”

Turks Worried Armenians May Benefit From European Court Of Human Rig

TURKS WORRIED ARMENIANS MAY BENEFIT FROM EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS DECISION

news.am
April 20, 2012 | 00:20

European Court of Human Rights’ decision on the Katyn massacres in
1940 against Russia worried the Turks.

The Court’s decision claims that the Katyn events are considered
to be military crimes hence the crime has no statute of limitation,
Turkish Milliyet reports.

According to a professor from the Ankara University, the Court’s given
decision may serve as a precedent for Dersim, Sivas, Corum and other
massacres against Turkey.

The professor stated that if one of the members of the massacred
Armenian family in 1915 appeals to the Court, it may satisfy it.
