On 27-28 January on the initiative of Nature Protection Ministry a
round table was held entitled “Towards The Twenty-first session of the
UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Road to Paris” at the
Russia Hotel in Tsaghkadzor.

Under the official information provided by Nature Protection Ministry,
the aim of this event was to discuss the procedures occurring around
developing a new protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate
Change in 2015, reduction or limitation of greenhouse gases in
Armenia, adaptation schemes, as well as current and implemented
projects aimed at enhancing the development, transfer and introduction
of technologies in the aforementioned fields, as well as enhancing
funding and capacities. The discussion shall promote the formation of
official information on Armenia’s position and actions towards the
21st session of the Convention.

On 1-2 December 2014 the main resolution of the 20th session of the UN
Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Lima, Peru, says that
the member countries to the Convention shall submit their positions on
the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions, which will be
further used to specify the reduction scheme of global emission of
greenhouse gases. The clear, transparent and easily accessible
implementation of all the mentioned procedures is focused on.

The members of the Interdepartmental Coordination Council in charge of
the enforcement of all the requirements and provisions of the UN
Framework Convention on Climate Change, as well as the representatives
of the international and local organizations took part in the round
table.

In his welcome speech, Nature Protection Minister Aramayis Grigoryan
outlined that starting from 2020 all member countries to the
Convention shall undertake commitments to take actions aimed at
reduction or limitation of the emission of greenhouse gases, about
which transparent and clear information shall be submitted to the
Convention and added, “Being not included in Appendix 1 to the
Convention, so far Armenia doesn’t have quantitative commitments on
reducing the emission of greenhouse gases. Nevertheless, valuing the
global efforts to reduce emissions, we voluntarily take actions to
limit greenhouse gas emissions, and, in general, to mitigate climate
change and consistently include climate change problems in the
national development programs.”

Noting that climate adaptation and mitigation measures are guarantee
for national safety, Minister Aramayis Grigoryan outlined that the
proper formulation, submission and implementation of the actions aimed
at solving the issue of climate change will significantly promote the
enforcement and development of socio-economic and environmental fields
of the Republic of Armenia.

The Minister advised that works are planned and implemented under the
coordination of different governmental departments in Armenia, which
promote the increase in adaptation to climate change and limitation of
greenhouse gas emissions.

“I think it’s very important to establish a cooperation environment
among the interdepartmental committee and the working group to
increase the effectiveness of the problem-related works. It will
significantly promote the attraction of international support and
funds for the implementation of the measures supporting the reduction
of the emission of greenhouse gases and adaptation in the Republic of
Armenia,” the Nature Protection Minister highlighted.

On the first day Aram Gabrielyan, the National Focal Point of the UN
Framework Convention on Climate Change, GIZ expert Frederick Wills and
UNDP Climate Change Program Coordinator Diana Harutyunyan made their
presentations. During the discussion proposals were made on
implementing necessary actions in Armenia till the end of 2015.

Amal Clooney gives excellent answer to fashion question at European
Court of Human Rights

Ms Clooney stood before Europe’s top human rights court to represent Armenia

HEATHER SAUL
Wednesday 28 January 2015

Amal Clooney, the renowned human rights lawyer, gave an excellent
response to a journalist who asked her about her fashion choices as
she appeared in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg
today.

Ms Clooney stood before Europe’s top human rights court to represent
Armenia in their case against DoÄ?u Perinçek, the leader of the Turkish
Workers’ Party.

In 2008, Perinçek was convicted of denying the 1915 Armenian genocide.
Ms Clooney is arguing on an appeal before the Strasbourg-based
European Court of Human Rights, which ruled in favour of the man, Dogu
Perincek, in December 2013.

Perincek claimed his right to free speech was violated when Swiss
courts convicted him of denying the genocide in 2005.

Ms Clooney’s arrival in Brussels’ saw some media outlets focus on her
choice of clothing, particularly the `vibrant’ red coat she was
spotted wearing for her flight out of the US.

Ms Clooney appeared at the European Court of Human RightsThe
Telegraph’s Brussel’s correspondent addressed the conjecture over her
wardrobe, to which Ms Clooney pointed at her black robes and
reportedly replied: `I’m wearing Ede & Ravenscroft”.

Graduates and judiciary might be familiar with the tailors, who supply
gowns hoods and hats for academic and legal occasions.

Iran, Armenia ties good model for world: Sargsyan

TEHRAN, Jan. 28 (MNA) – Armenian President stressed relations between
Iran and Armenia could be a good model for other countries, stressing
that he would never take any stance against Iran in international
forums.

In his meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Iran’s FM
Mohammad Javad Zarif conveyed greetings of President Rouhani and
expressed hope to coordinate President Rouhani’s visit to Armenia in
2015.

“We are looking for establishing good ties between Islamic Republic of
Iran and Christian Armenia and tend to raise the relations in all
fields,” Zarif said, expressing gratitude over Armenia’s position in
international communities to support Iran.

President Serzh Sargsyan, for his part, said Iran-Armenia relation
could be a good model for other countries, stressing the continuation
of cooperative ties between the two countries.

He emphasized that he would not take any stance against Iran in

On the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the formation of the
Armenian army, the President of the Republic of Armenia issued decrees

Unfortunately, today we are also handing over posthumous decorations.
Glory to their memories! I think nobody doubts that we will make them
pay for all our fallen boys.

On the Armenian army day, we again and again highlight the
significance of the mission carried out by the armed forces, as well
as its importance and hardships. However, we also emphasize the
self-sacrifice and heroism of our servicemen.

Following the already established tradition, I deliver my Army Day
Congratulatory Address in front of such merited people who are present
today at this hall. Let me behave the same way today.

Manvel Grigoryan to Seyran Saroyan: Do you want me to interfere?

Manvel Grigoryan to Seyran Saroyan: Do you want me to interfere? (video)

14:52 | January 28,2015 | Politics

Representatives of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union today visited the
Yerablur Pantheon on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the
Armenian army.

Speaking about the recent escalation of tensions on the
Armenian-Azerbaijani border, General Seyran Saroyan from the ruling
Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) said, “Today we all need to support
our army and encourage our servicemen. We should let them know that
they enjoy the support of the entire nation.”

Commenting on Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan’s statement on the
ceasefire violations, Mr Saroyan said, “If they [Azeris] try to attack
us, we shall definitely respond to their attacks.” Asked whether he
meant to say that the Armenian side is to take the first step and open
fire, Mr Saroyan said, “Why should we be the first to fire? No, we are
the winning party. The blame will fall on the side that started a war.
If they try to resume hostilities, they will receive an adequate
response.”

When he was asked to comment on the recent brutal murder in Gyumri
city, the general said, “Why do you want me to speak about the tragedy
on this happy day? Russians will punish their soldier more severely.
That murderer deserves the maximum sentence.”

At that moment General Manvel Grigoryan hurried to help his friend and
‘save’ him from journalists. “Saroyan, do you want me to interfere?”

Affaires étrangères Edouard Nalbandian, Zarif a souligné l’importance

transport.

Egoyan). Question and answer session with Dr. Carla Garapedian and

slavery before finally escaping to Europe and then the U.S. Her story
was the basis for a hugely popular book and film, starring Aurora
herself, which was seen by thousands of people around the world.

Mardiganian” and former film historian of the Academy of Motion

Though there is an international consensus that up to 1.5 million
Armenians died in the Ottoman Turkish Empire, the Armenian genocide is
still not recognized by Turkey as a historical fact. “Aghet” deals
with the political motives for this continuing silence. This
innovative German documentary relies on authentic testimonies by
European and American personnel stationed in the Near East at the time
and Armenian survivors. Famous German actors give these eyewitnesses
finally the opportunity to make their voices heard. (2010, Dir. E.
Friedler). Director Eric Friedler will join for a discussion following
the screening.

Upcoming 2015 screenings, for which dates and information are to be
