Child protection in Armenia will be the topic of a conference dedicated
to the International Children’s Day on the 7th of June. The event is
part of a project on reducing violence against children funded by the
European Union and implemented by World Vision Armenia International
Benevolent Organization.

Under the theme ~SReality and prospects,~T the conference aims at
improving cooperation between state and non-governmental organizations
in the child protection area by providing a platform for dialogue
between state officials and representatives of NGOs.

Participants will discuss developments in the child protection area,
the 2012-2016 RA Draft Strategy on Children’s Rights, as well as the
role of non-governmental organizations and their expectations from
the government. Recommendations to the draft strategy will be then
presented for further consideration.

ANC OF EUROPE CONDEMNS AZERI ATTACKS

EAFJD president Kaspar Karampetian

STRASBOURG-In the early hours of June 4, Azerbaijani forces attacked
the region of Tavush, in North-Eastern Armenia, which has resulted in
3 deaths and 6 injuries of Armenian soldiers. Armenian armed forces
have managed to push back the attack and re-establish peace.

It is important to note that a OSCE Minsk group co-chair country’s
Foreign Minister, Hillary Rodham Clinton of the United States of
America, had a scheduled visit in the region only a few hours later,
to strengthen cooperation and peace in Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy strongly
condemns this new attack escalating in dangerously high levels,
threatening regional peace and the European initiatives, especially
European Neighborhood Policy – East and the EURONEST, which are
planned to ensure regional cooperation. Azerbaijan’s increasing
armament and violations of international law threaten the regional
peace and stability.

“Azerbaijan’s attack against Armenia is a proof, that this country
is not interested in peace, and carrying such an attack hours only
before an OSCE Minsk group co-chair country, U.S. Foreign Minister
Hillary Clinton’s visit, displays the real intent, that of war,
of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev,” said European Armenian
Federation’s President, Kaspar Karampetian.

“We demand from the European Union, to no longer to call on both
parties to show restrain, but strongly condemn the Azeri leadership,
demanding a stop to their war mongering and adventure,” said
Karampetian.

“Mrs. Catherine Ashton, the European Commission’s Vice-president and
High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has to
condemn Azerbaijan’s attitude, which threatens regional peace. She
has to make clear to the Azerbaijani government, that the EU is not
only interested in energy, but mainly peace and stability, and that
this could have serious effects on the EU – Azerbaijan Association
Agreements discussions,” concluded Karampetian.

PARLIAMENTARY OFFICIAL: VIOLATION OF CEASEFIRE BY ARMENIA NEGATIVELY AFFECTS NEGOTIATION PROCESS

Azerbaijan

Serious and intense violation in the recent time of ceasefire by
the Armenian side negatively affects the negotiation process, deputy
chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova told reporters
on Thursday.

“This is an indication that Armenia, which is one of the parties to
the negotiations, takes destructive position and its position in the
negotiation process is at odds with the real position,” she said.

Recent activities of the Armenian side cast a shadow on the
achievements and the prospects, Muradova said.

Due to the fact that in recent days the frequent violation of the
ceasefire coincided with the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton to the region, deputy speaker said that recent events have
forced to put forward different ideas.

“But it is obvious that the Armenians continue to turn to the heralds
of the interests of others,” she said.

Recently, the ceasefire has intensively been violated on the front
line. At 06:30 on June 5 Armenian sabotage group’s efforts to enter
Azerbaijani Armed Forces’ positions in Ashagi Eskipara village in the
Gazakh region failed and it retreated by suffering losses. As a result
of the fight, 4 soldiers of Azerbaijani Armed Forces were killed.

Another Azerbaijani soldier was killed as a result of fire opened
from nameless heights in Gazakh region.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France and the U.S. –
are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.

AZERBAIJANI PARLIAMENTARY OFFICIAL: WITH POLITICAL WILL, U.S. MAY INFLUENCE NAGORNO-KARABAKH SETTLEMENT

If the U.S. has the political will, it can seriously influence the
settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijani parliament
deputy chairman Bahar Muradova told reporters on Thursday.

“It is not worth widely touching upon U.S. influence in the settlement
of conflicts in the world, since this role is obvious. If there
is political will, the U.S. has the opportunity to influence the
settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” Muradova said.

She said the statements made â~@~Kâ~@~Kby Hillary Clinton, inspire
some optimism, and a new U.S. attitude to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
gives hope for its settlement.

“This will be reflected in the ministerial meeting to be held in
Paris. What is clear is that this problem is beginning to worry
everyone. Without settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the U.S.

will not be able to secure its interests in the region,” Muradova said.

The Freedom House organisation is ‘fuelled’ by the Armenian lobby. It

When one gets acquainted with the information disseminated by Freedom

reason is that these organisations and their leaders are ‘fuelled’ by
the Armenian lobby. They voice a biased position against Azerbaijan.”

Visite Officielle Du President Sarkissian Au Japon

VISITE OFFICIELLE DU PRESIDENT SARKISSIAN AU JAPON
Gari

armenews.com
vendredi 8 juin 2012
