PROTEST IN FRONT OF AZERBAIJANI CONSULATE IN LA IN MEMORY OF GURGEN MARGARYAN

12:50 08.02.2013

In memory of Lt. Gurgen Margaryan, a slain Armenian officer axed to
death while asleep by the self-confessed Azeri ax-murderer Lt. Ramil
Safarov on February 19, 2004, and in commemoration of the 25th
Anniversary of the Sumgait Massacres in Azerbaijan, the Unified Young
Armenians will hold a rally on February 19, 2013 in front of Consulate
of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles. The same building also houses the
Hungarian Consulate, another culprit which freed Safarov in return for
Azeri petro-dollars.

The Government of Azerbaijan secured the extradition of Ramil Safarov
by purchasing billions of dollars of Hungarian sovereign debt and by
promising investment in that country.

Subsequently, Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, who took
power from his father in 2003, pardoned the killer and promoted him to
the rank of major. Lt. Gurgen Margaryan’s killing was not a case of
simple murder.

For the sake of the past, and for the sake of the future, Unified
Young Armenians (UYA) calls upon the Armenian community, as well as
the peace-loving people of the Southern California to be there and
amplify our call for justice and fairness.

Armenian-Born Sen. George Z. Hart Dies At 88

ARMENIAN-BORN SEN. GEORGE Z. HART DIES AT 88

February 8, 2013 – 11:50 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – George Z. Hart, a veteran politician from Dearborn
who was known as “the singing senator,” has died at age 88, Detroit
Free Press reported.

Born in Detroit, Hart was elected to the Michigan Senate in 1974 and
served through 2002. The Democrat had earlier served on the Wayne
County Commission and the Dearborn City Council.

Former Democratic Sen. Arthur Miller, now a Lansing lobbyist, said
Hart pushed for child car safety seat legislation, and that it’s
impossible to estimate how many children’s lives have been saved as
a result of tougher state laws Hart championed.

The son of Armenian immigrants, Hart, a World War II army veteran,
graduated from Wayne State University in 1949 with a bachelor’s
degree in political science. He died on Jan. 31, according to his
niece Mary Canfield.

Former Republican Sen. Phil Hoffman remembered Hart leading the Senate
chamber in song on birthdays and other special occasions.

Belonging to different political parties, “we did battle many times,
but at the end, he was very civil,” said Hoffman, who represented
Horton and is also a lobbyist in Lansing.

A longtime bachelor, Hart married Catherine O’Brien of Windsor, his
companion of more than eight years, on Dec. 6, his niece said. He
died at a hospital in Albuquerque, N.M., where he was vacationing,
from age-related ailments, she said.

The minister said currently the Azerbaijani side is completely changing
the pipelines and the issue will be solved in 1-1.5 years.

Armenian Pm Not Sure About His Future

ARMENIAN PM NOT SURE ABOUT HIS FUTURE

TERT.AM

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan says he doesn’t know for sure
whether he will remain in office after the upcoming presidential polld.

Speaking to reporters at a Wednesday briefing, the premier explained
that the issue is not a top priority at the moment. “I propose
summoning up patience. I think you can wait for a couple of months,
after being patient for five years, ” he said.

Sargsyan noted that the government’s task now is to ensure equal
conditions for all the presidential runners to enable them to introduce
their platforms to the society.

Asked whether the ruling Republican Party will ask other major
political forces – Prosperous Armenia and the Armenian Revolutionary
Federation-Dashnaksutyun – to sign a coalition government deal,
the premier said only that he has always supported collaboration.

“Such were the grounds for creating a coalition. Our partners made
a decision, but some withdrew. If our partners decide that they want
a return, the issue will be naturally discussed. But there’s no such
decision for now,” he answered.

Armenian Pm: Dentistry In Armenia Paid No Taxes At All, While Gettin

ARMENIAN PM: DENTISTRY IN ARMENIA PAID NO TAXES AT ALL, WHILE GETTING A QUITE TANGIBLE PROFIT

ARMINFO
Wednesday, February 6, 18:42

The Government of Armenia has received and is still receiving numerous
complaints saying that the dentistry sphere is “in the shade”, Armenian
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said in Parliament when responding
to the concern of Lyudmila Sargsyan, MP from the opposition Armenian
National Congress faction.

He stressed that in general this sphere paid no taxes at all while
receiving quite a tangible profit. In this connection, “the Government
took minimal measures of administrative influence in order to gain
some results”. The matter concerns fixed payments, on which the MPs
themselves insist, especially in the context of the fight against
“the shadow economy”. Moreover, this sphere has a competition,
which demonstrates a lack of monopolies. “Walk along the streets of
Yerevan and you will see dozens of signs inviting you to visit the
dentists”, he said. It is also important that the republic holds
one of the leading positions in the world by its dentistry. Foreign
citizens come to Armenia to get dental services at a lower price
and comparatively high quality. However, it is one thing when the
matter concerns business organizers, and quite another thing when the
matter concerns the dentists themselves. Most of those who complain are
business organizers who do not want to pay any taxes. The calculations
made by the State Revenue Committee and Finance Ministry show that the
amount of the fixed payments for dentists is very low as compared with
other spheres. The premier said that he instructed these structures
to submit these calculations for the public’s approval.

To remind, on Feb 4 the dentists of Armenia held a protest action
in front of the building of Armenian Parliament, demanding that the
amendments to the Law “On License Payments” should be revised. On Jan
31 several dozens of dentists went on a protest action in front of
the Government building. The amendments to the above law that came
into effect on Jan 1 2013 oblige dental clinics to pay 80,000 drams
license payments per dental seat quarterly instead of the previous
12,000 drams (nearly $30). Earlier Speaker of Armenian Parliament
Hovik Abrahamyan said that a new bill was being prepared.

To note, at the January 26 extraordinary meeting of Armenian dentists,
over 1,300 delegates signed an appeal addressed to the president,
prime minister and parliament speaker suggesting reduction of the
license payment to 30,000 drams “for the first zone (Yerevan) with
application of relevant coefficient for the other zones (regions)”
impose a tax on the X-ray diagnostics, ball-bearing laboratories
operating in the clinics. As regards children’s dental seats, they
offer a 0.5 coefficient for license payment. The amendments to the
Law “On Licensing” applied also to realtors. Thus, the real estate
agencies of Yerevan are to pay 60 thsd AMD monthly for every employee,
and the agencies in the region – 10-50 thsd AMD.

Experts say that there are up to 12,000 dentists and 200 real estate
agencies in Armenia. They believe that the amendments to the tax
legislation will lead to price hikes in the spheres of dental and real
estate services and possible illegal business. Earlier, IMF announced
35% shadow economy in Armenia, while Bloomberg and Business Week
believe this indicator in Armenia has reached 51.7%. By data of the
National Statistical Service of Armenia, tax revenues of the state
budget totaled 725.5 bln drams with a 14.9% annual growth.

Armenia’s Presidential Hopeful On Hunger Strike

ARMENIA’S PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL ON HUNGER STRIKE

February 06, 2013 13:51 GMT YEREVAN, Armenia (AP) — Doctors in
Armenia have expressed concern about the condition of a presidential
candidate who has been on a hunger strike outside the parliament
building for more than two weeks. Andrias Gukasian is protesting what
he described as improper use of state resources by the incumbent,
Serge Sarkisian. Sarkisian, who is facing seven challengers,
is expected to easily win a second term in the Feb. 18 vote. His
campaign has rejected Gukasian’s allegations. Gukasian, a political
analyst, was examined by a medical team Wednesday, and the chief of
the Armenian capital’s healthcare department said that doctors will
permanently stay at his side as he refused to be hospitalized. The
election race was thrown into disarray Friday when another candidate,
Paruir Airikian, was shot and wounded by an unidentified assailant.
