The Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh accuses international
organizations of putting no pressure on Armenia.

“The international community, including the OSCE Minsk
Group co-chairmen, must put pressure on Armenia to resolve the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict”, a board member of the public association
“Nagorno-Karabakh community of the Azerbaijani Republic” MP Elman
Mammadov said in an interview with the website of the ruling “New
Azerbaijan Party”.

“If world nations say that it is time to resolve this conflict,
concrete actions must be taken”, said Mammadov, adding that Armenia
does not want to reach peace normally.

Mammadov added that Serzh Sargsyan’s recent statements once again
confirm this.

“One may regret that few people consider Armenia as an aggressor and
occupier”, Mammadov said. “If measures are taken under international
law, the situation would be completely different. But the aggressor is
not yet officially called an aggressor and the international community
cannot expect any constructive action from Armenia.”

TURKISH HURRIYET CONFESSED THAT IT MISREPRESENTED WORDS OF ARMENIAN PRESIDENT

ANKARA. – In response to comments by its readers Turkish Hurriyet
indirectly admitted that it misquoted Armenian President Serzh
Sargsyan.

The reader of Turkish newspaper, Kursat Bozkur, addressed to the
editor over the “We got Karabakh back, and we leave Mount Ararat or
future generation” publication, noting that he read the words of the
President of Armenia to discover that he did not use such expression.

Moreover, Serzh Sargsyan stressed that it is not the size of the land
that determines its weight, noted the reader.

“I recently read in your newspaper about the” bellicose statements
“and” hateful crimes”. And which of these categories is unwarranted
title of your publication?” asked Bozkur.

In response to the reader Hurriyet said that the article does not
contain the phrase: “We got Karabakh back, and we leave Mount Ararat
or future generations.” The paper actually admits that the headline has
nothing in common with the content of the article. It reminds, however,
the declaration on journalists’ rights and responsibility in Turkey.

“As journalists, we must help to resolve the disagreement between
Turkey and Armenia. In so far as we need to pursue “peace journalism”
not “journalism of confrontation”. Now think to yourselves, which
of the headers is more appropriate in terms of solving problems
and advancing to peace “We took Karabakh, Ararat (Turkish – Agri) we
leave to you” or Serzh Sargsyan’s “It is not the size of the land that
determines its weight,” said a representative of the Turkish edition.

The Turkish Hurriyet Daily has published an article titled “What did
Sargsyan Mean?” where a reader of the daily expresses his discontent
by saying that the title of an article on Armenian President Serzh
Sargsyan published in the newspaper earlier does not reflect the real
contents of the text, nor does it represent reality.

Hurriyet’s reader, Kursat Bozkurt wrote to the editorial office,
resentful at the newspaper’s representation of Serzh Sargsyan’s words.

Bozkurt wrote that while answering a question of a participant of
the Olympiad on the liberation of Western Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan
did not say word for word: “We took Karabakh and left Mount Ararat
to your generation,” whereas the Turkish media represented that as
a direct quotation. A publication in Hurriyet on July 26 was titled
just this way.

The reader reminded that Hurriyet had often referred to such
disgraceful phenomena as bellicose journalism and sowing hatred,
and asked the newspaper how it can profess such ideas and at the same
time publish such a material which does not correspond to reality.

Hurriyet’s editorial office admitted that the title of the article
on the Armenian President published earlier is misrepresented and
does not correspond to the article’s contents.

Coaches say this year’s Homenetmen Ararat Chapter team headed to the
Pan-Armenian Games is more talented than the 2007 silver-medal squad.

GLENDALE – One starter – Zareh Zargaryan – just completed his
collegiate career at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Another starter – Narbeh Ebrahimian – was the starting point guard
for Glendale Community College this past season.

A third presumed starter – Zareh Avedian – finished his playing career
at Cal Lutheran in 2004, but has competed in international tournaments
and can still dominate games.

The trio of stars on the Glendale men’s basketball team will join
locals who have shined in the area to represent their city and the
Homenetmen Ararat Chapter in the fifth annual Pan-Armenian Games in
Yerevan, Armenia.

The Pan-Armenian Games begin Saturday and end Aug. 21.

Will all the talent Glendale possesses result smelt into gold at
the end?

They all say the answer depends on how much each sacrifices.

“Without sacrifice, you never appreciate what you accomplish,” said
Glendale Coach Fred Babadjanians, a former Glendale High girls’
basketball coach, who led a contingent of Armenian athletes to a
silver medal in the 2007 Pan-Armenian Games.

“We’re asking them to sacrifice something that’s bigger than them.”

Babadjanians and his players say this team is more talented than the
one that took silver.

“It’s the deepest team we’ve had,” said Narbeh Doloukhanian, a 1999
Hoover graduate who is making his fourth trip to Armenia for the
international competition. “We are taking a more talented team,
but that doesn’t mean anything.”

The talent is deep.

Zargaryan, a 6-foot-6 forward, may be Glendale’s top attraction.

The 2007 Hoover graduate was one of the leaders on a [Division II]
Dominguez Hills team that advanced to the NCAA West Region Tournament,
averaging 9.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

He’ll be asked to score, pass and play sturdy defense for Glendale.

“As a team, we’re committed to playing team defense,” Babadjanians
says. “That’s supposed to create for our offense. If our defense is
going to lead to our fastbreak points, we don’t have to worry about
Zareh getting 15 shots a game.”

Zargaryan says he doesn’t need to shoot much.

“There’s so much help on the court,” he added.

That help includes Avedian, a 1999 Hoover graduate.

Avedian is making his sixth trip to Armenia and is all too familiar
with the level of competition.

EXPLOITATION OF QABALA RADAR STATION BY RUSSIA IS IN INTERESTS OF ARMENIA – DEPUTY MOD

YEREVAN. – The more Russia is involved in the military sphere of
Azerbaijan, the better it will contribute to security in the region,
Armenian deputy MOD Davit Tonoyan told at the interview with Mediamax.

“The exploitation of Qabala RS has a certain strategic importance
to Russia,” Tonoyan told in response to the question on the position
of Armenia regarding the availability of the Qabala RS in Azerbaijan
and a possible change of its status.

“It was involved in the system of anti-missile protection of the Soviet
Union then. Currently it allows Russian Armed Forces to monitor the
situation with a wide radius. Based on the relations between Armenia
and Russia, Armenia does not accept the exploitation of Qabala RS by
Russia an activity which is against the interests of Armenia. On the
contrary, the more our strategic partner and other state-partners
are involved in the military sphere of our neighbor, the better it
will contribute to security in the region.”

Russian MOD visited Azerbaijan recently to discuss issues on Qabala
radar station.

SOCHI. – Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his Azerbaijani
counterpart Ilham Aliyev are holding a meeting in Sochi. The
two leaders are discussing expansion of bilateral relations,
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as international issues and world
economic problems, RIA Novosti reports.

“Certainly, one of the focal points at the talks is Karabakh conflict
resolution. I would like to hold a “sincere” conversation on further
developments in the peace process following the presidents’ meeting
in Kazan and previous meetings,” Medvedev said at the meeting.

In his turn Aliyev thanked Medvedev for his invitation to visit
Russia. He emphasized that the bilateral cooperation is developing
dynamically in all directions, including the economic and humanitarian
spheres and energy security. Azerbaijani president also thanked
Medvedev for his efforts to resolve the Karabakh dispute.

“The talks considerably brought the sides’ positions closer.

Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the main problem of regional security.

Azerbaijan is more interested in the conflict settlement, than any
other country,” he noted.

SERGEY SHAKARYANTS: TURKISH RESPONSE TO RA PRESIDENT’S SPEECH WAS MANIFESTATION OF EMOTIONS

ARMENPRESS

Turkish response to Armenian President’s speech in Tsakhkadzor was a
manifestation of emotions and for internal use, political specialist
Sergey Shakaryants said in an interview with Armenpress, commenting
on the fact that “Hurriyet” has accepted the remark of presenting the
answers to the questions of the participants of Olympiad for Armenian
Studies in Tsakhkadzor in a distorted way.

“The language of emotions is not acceptable in the political field:
this is the same as Greece or Cyprus mentioned that the Turks must
apologize to them,” the political specialist said, adding that Turkey
goes on remaining in a strange situation: one of the arrested generals
is appointed a representative of Turkey in NATO, changes are made in
the headquarters.

According to him, under the shadow of the fact that the discussions,
according to which the USA also exerts efforts for resuming the
regulation process of Armenian-Turkish relations, have made Turkey
as a bad pupil omit those words not to break that bridge.

“For that very reason it is evident that it was for inner use: in the
end Turkish nationalists uninterruptedly blame the country’s authority
that they have drawn back from the Kemal ideas. And suchlike behavior
of Turkey was a justification of anti-Armenian moods,” Mr. Shakaryants
stressed.

Kuhlungsborn Residents Hide Armenian Family To Be Deported From Germ

KUHLUNGSBORN RESIDENTS HIDE ARMENIAN FAMILY TO BE DEPORTED FROM GERMANY

PanARMENIAN.Net

PanARMENIAN.Net – Residents of Kuhlungsborn, a small resort city
on the Baltic Sea have hidden an Armenian family of four from the
authorities to interfere with their deportation to the homeland.

Arthur and Kristina Baveyans arrived in Germany 13 years ago and
asked for political asylum, Spiegel reports.

They bore two children in Germany, Gevorg (12) and Anna (9). Children
speak German, attend German school, go in for sports and overall have
been brought up on the German culture.

The family itself covers all its expenses, and therefore it gained
sympathy of Kuhlungsborn’s residents, who had few deal with migrants
earlier. Arthur runs a doner snack bar, his wife cares after elderly
people helping them in the household.

Nevertheless, in February this year, the Inferior Ministry Committee
denied to prolong living permit for the family in Germany. The reasons
are withheld. According to some data, the authorities had suspicion
with regard to Arthur Baveyan, who, allegedly, was repeatedly charged
for law infringement earlier, Lenta.ru reports.

The family was to be deported on August 9, however it suddenly
disappeared. It was later found out that the Beveyans were hidden from
the authorities and migration services by Kuhlungsborn’s residents.

Besides, they came out to the streets to protest against their
deportation. About 200 people, which is an essential number for a small
city, gathered in front of Arthur’s snack bar, according to Spiegel.

The incidents in Kuhlungsborn gained broad resonance at the threshold
of forthcoming territorial elections in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania
due on September 4. Prime Minister Erwin Sellering said through its
Press Secretary that the case of Baveyans family will be re-sent to
consideration of the Inferior Ministry Committee.
