MAGIC JACK “RETURNS” NAGORNO-KARABAKH TO AZERBAIJAN

Magic Jack, America’s popular phone equipment firm, which enables its
users to make internet phone calls to almost any country throughout
the World, re-listed Nagorno-Karabakh under Azerbaijan, instead of
Armenia in its International Rates, APA reports.

Last week, the Azeri Diaspora sent dozens of the letters to the Magic
Jack, reminding the company that the Nagorno-Karabakh region has been
and is recognized as de jure part of Azerbaijan.

“That was just a misunderstanding”, said a Magic Jack representative.

However, there is another “mistake” in the company’s current list:
Nagorno-Karabakh is indicated as a republic.

BAKU: Azerbaijani Top Official: Armenian Leaders Do Not Want To Reso

AZERBAIJANI TOP OFFICIAL: ARMENIAN LEADERS DO NOT WANT TO RESOLVE NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT IN REALITY
S.Agayeva

Azerbaijan

Head of the Foreign Relations Department at the Azerbaijani
Presidential Administration Novruz Mammadov commented on the statement
by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan that he made at the congress of
the Vmeste youth movement on the Sevan Lake.

“The English philosopher John Toland said: “The more ancient the lie,
the dangerous it is. Hence, it is deeply rooted”. “For centuries,
the Armenian people have been indoctrinated the idea on the existence
of “Great Armenia” and that this “Great Armenia” had existed on
the territory of modern Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, etc. The
Armenians, who always preferred to be under the auspices of someone,
turned into a hostage of adventurist and absurd ambitions of their
leaders,” Mammadov told Trend.

Hypocritically claiming upon Armenian that these lands were Armenian,
the Armenians had lived there for centuries, the current president of
Armenia even ignores many archival materials, documents of the early
and mid 19th century, which testify the resettlement of Armenians
to these lands, said Mammadov. “And these tsar’s decrees, orders
on resettlement, etc. are kept in the archives of Russia, Georgia,
Turkey and other countries,” said Mammadov.

Mammadov said that Sargsyan is right, declaring that “history and time
proved who is afraid, who is an adventurer, who can stay and run away,
who can be ready to die for the native land”. “It does not need and I
think it is impossible to only powder the brains of countrymen. So,
perhaps, the Armenians were scattered throughout the world “to die
for the sake of the native land”, leaving the tiny part of those who
wanted much to escape, but still can not, since they do not have the
funds,” said Mammadov.

And as for who is an adventurer, unfortunately, Sargsyan misunderstands
that everything that has happened with the Armenian people throughout
its history is the consequences of the adventurist acts of its leaders,
which are apparently continuing.

“One is surprising: both leaders and scientists and the entire educated
part of the Armenian community are well aware that the legend on the
historical past of Armenians is completely false and that such an
approach to history is not productive and ultimately is useless, but
they still continue to go on this way for the sake of their ambitions,”
said Mammadov.

“Today I am convinced once again that in reality the leaders of
Armenia do not want to resolve this conflict. Apparently, the status
quo is satisfactory for them. The negotiations are necessary for them
to delay the time and to splurge the international community. Yes,
I am sure that the time will come when we shall find a key to solving
the problem, and this key will be adequate to the Armenian behavior
in these processes,” said Mammadov.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. –
are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.

regarding their campaign on foreign aid to Armenia and Azerbaijan.

US Senator Richard J. Durbin (D-IL) sent a letter to the Azerbaijani
Diaspora members regarding their campaign on foreign aid to Armenia
and Azerbaijan, APA’s Washington DC correspondent was told by the
Senator’s office.

The campaign was held by one of the main Diaspora Organizations USAN.

“I understand your concern regarding foreign aid to Armenia in regards
to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and I will keep your concerns about
Azerbaijan in mind as Congress debates issues surrounding foreign aid”,
notes the Senator.

“Foreign aid can, and often does, serve as a significant tool to
promote international security. Foreign aid addresses concerns that
cross international borders and collectively affect the wellbeing of
citizens worldwide”, he added.

“The international affairs budget is an essential component of U.S
foreign aid. The funds support a variety of programs from diplomatic
efforts in the Middle East region to fighting poverty and threats
to international security globally. Throughout my time in Congress,
I have supported increased funding for the international affairs
budget”, the Senator noted.

In the campaign letters, the Azeri Diaspora members urged their
representatives to reduce the financial aid to Armenia and ensure that
any assistance provided to the victims of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is
made available to the displaced Azerbaijani victims as well, reflects
the demonstrated programmatic capacity and level of assistance to
Armenia is reconsidered based on our national foreign policy priorities
and not the agenda of ethnocentric special interest groups.

ANKARA: Tourists Flow To Turkey’s East To Visit Historical Armenian

TOURISTS FLOW TO TURKEY’S EAST TO VISIT HISTORICAL ARMENIAN CHURCH

Akdamar Church, located on Akdamar island in Lake Van, had been opened
to worshippers for a single day.

Tens of thousands of tourists have arrived in Turkey’s eastern Van
province since the beginning of the year to visit a historical Armenian
church which was reopened to worshippers last September.

Akdamar Church, located on Akdamar island in Lake Van, had been opened
to worshippers for a single day and hosted a religious ceremony for
the first time after 95 years in September 2010.

The church, which had attracted nearly 30,000 tourists until the end
of 2010, has received even more number of visitors during the first
7 months of the year, tourism officials told AA on Monday.

Officials said the number of tourists visiting the Akdamar Church was
expected to reach 60,000 until the end of 2011 as the church would
host another religious ceremony next month.

The Church of Akdamar was built by Architect Bishop Manuel between
915-921 A.D. under the supervision of King Gagik I.

The name given to the island, Aght’amar, is explained by a well-known
legend among local population: A nobleman who fell in love with a
beautiful girl named Tamar visited the island every night to see her.

As he was crossing the lake one stormy night, his boat capsized and
fighting the waves, he drowned uttering the words “Ach Tamar”. Tamar,
awaiting the arrival of her loved one, grieved deeply upon hearing the
news of his death and died soon after. Hence, the island was called
“Ach Tamar” (Aght’amar/Akdamar) ever since.

The church remained as a part of a monastic complex until the beginning
of the 20th century, after which it was abandoned during World War I
due to the fights along the Russian border and it was left in a bad
condition for many years.

Turkish authorities restored the church between 2005-2007 and opened
it as a museum.

Upon a proposal by the Governor’s Office of Van and approval of the
Turkish Culture & Tourism Ministry, authorities later decided that
Akdamar Church shall host a religious worship once a year.
