THOMAS DE VAAL: TURKISH “DEEP STATE” KEEPS ON STRIKING AS WITH HRANT DINK’S AWFUL ASSASSINATION

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Turkish “deep state” associated with the army and
intelligence service still strikes on occasion, as with the awful
assassination of Istanbul Armenian newspaper editor Hrant Dink in
Istanbul in 2007.

British expert Thomas de Vaal writes this in his ” Russia’s Toxic Deep
State” article published in The National Interest., Mediamax reports.

“There were media reports that Dink’s teenage killer had been protected
by police officers and evidence covered up”, notes the expert.

“The story of Turkey’s last decade has been that of Prime Minister
Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s mission to humble the country’s military
establishment, which had in its time humbled a series of civilian
governments. That story reached a climax this August as Erdogan forced
the mass resignation of the entire military leadership. But Turkey’s
outer security structures are the outer core of something deeper.

Modern Turkey also has its shadowy military-security hinterland
known as the “deep state,” a group of fanatical individuals devoted
to upholding an almost sacred conception of the Kemalist state order
and getting rid of any liberals, Marxists or Islamists who threaten it.

The “deep state” is associated with the army and intelligence service
but too shadowy and extreme for those links to be traceable”, notes
Thomas de Vaal.

STEPANAKERT.- Nagorno-Karabakh’s participation in all the stages
of peace process as a full member is the only opportunity to
reach full-scale resolution of the conflict, said President of
Nagorno-Karabakh Bako Sahakyan.

“It is unreal to resolve the conflict without our participation,”
he said in an interview with Russian Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper,
adding that international mediators, for instance the OSCE Minsk Group,
also accept this.

He stressed that Stepanakert is ready for direct talks and discussion
of any issues with Baku.

“I believe resumption of a full-scale format of talks is a matter
of time. The sooner it happens the less time will be needed to reach
final resolution,” Sahakyan said.

TCA Arshag Dickranian School
Starts Its 2011 – 2012 Academic Year

Los Angeles, September 1, 2011 – Following the example of several unified
school districts, this year the traditional `Back to School Day’ ceremony
of the TCA Arshag Dickranian School’s 31st academic year took place on
August 29, 2011 at 8:15 a.m., a full week earlier than usual.

The event took place at the open courtyard of the campus where students
ranging from Pre-Kindergarten toddlers to 12th Grade seniors had gathered
under the guidance of their teachers and the watchful eyes of their
parents. Among the guests were St. John Armenian Church parish priest Fr.
Manoug Markarian, school benefactress Mrs. Cynthia Norian, Board Chairman
Mr. George K. Mandossian, Vice Chairman Mr. Parsegh Kartalian, Board
Treasurer Mrs. Angine Garibyan and Board Member Mr. Diran Depanian.

Principal Vartkes Kourouyan started the program by extending his greetings
to the students, teachers and parents alike, and then called upon Fr.
Markarian to conduct the morning prayers and give his blessings. He then
invited Mrs. Norian to share her thoughts. `My parents founded this school
so that children like you could learn the Armenian language and history.’
She said. `You are the legacy of the Armenian heritage. I have full
confidence in your diligence and wish you an industrious school year.’

Chairman George Mandossian next got to the podium to express his welcoming
remarks on behalf of the School Board of Trustees. After greeting the
students, the teachers, the parents and working committees, he touched
upon the challenges the board was facing due to the ongoing economic
crisis and called for the cooperation of all to ensure the success of the
scholastic year.

The program was concluded with the closing remarks of principal Kourouyan
who wished the students success in their endeavors and declaring the new
scholastic year open. He then invited parents to enjoy the coffee and
assortment of cookies served by the PTO while students were directed to
their classrooms.

Located at 1200 North Cahuenga Blvd., Los Angeles, the TCA Arshag
Dickranian Armenian School is a federally tax exempt, Pre-K to 12th grade
private educational institution. For more information visit

Armenian FM Said Basic Principles Could Serve As Ground For Reconcil

ARMENIAN FM SAID BASIC PRINCIPLES COULD SERVE AS GROUND FOR RECONCILIATION

We’ve reached a harbor, when the mediators, the international community
and Armenia, having common disposition with them, were thinking that by
the mediation and initiative of Russian President the basic principles
submitted by the three co-chairs would launch the start of NK conflict
reconciliation, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian answered
to the question of a student from YSU.

Armenian FM placed blame on Azerbaijan’s destructive position for
failing the advancement.

“The same happened in 2011 in Sochi, in 2010 in Astrakhan and
Saint Petersburg, where Azerbaijan failed the agreement,” Minister
Nalbandian said.

FM: "It Was Azerbaijan’s Fault"

FM: “IT WAS AZERBAIJAN’S FAULT”

The foreign minister’s response was no different from that of Serzh
Sargsyan. Touching upon the latest developments of the process of the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution at YSU, Minister Edward Nalbandyan
repeated what Serzh Sargsyan said during the ambassadorial meeting.

In response to a student’s question, Minister Nalbandyan underlined
that we had reached a landmark where the mediators, the international
community and Armenia, which has the same position as they do, believed
that the Basic Principles presented through Russia’s intermediation
and by the Co-Chairs at the meeting in Kazan could serve as a basis
for the NK conflict resolution, but progress wasn’t made due to
Azerbaijan’s destructive position.

According to the minister, the same thing happened at the summits in
March 2011 in Sochi, October 2010 in Astrakhan and June 2010 in June
when Azerbaijan impeded the conciliation.

In the past couple of years, according to the established tradition,
RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan visited YSU on Knowledge Day and
delivered a speech in front of the first-year students and professors.

In his speech, Minister Nalbandyan congratulated the first-year
students of YSU on getting accepted and the first day of classes and
wished them success, reports the MFA press service.

No Trust In Judge

NO TRUST IN JUDGE

05:02 pm | September 01, 2011

The trial for Milano store located on 4 Abovyan Street will continue
on September 2. The case is being examined by Judge Gayane Karakhanyan
of the Kentron and Nork-Marash districts’ court of general jurisdiction
in Yerevan.

Head of Milano, Hovhannes Ghukasyan wishes to have the territory
returned. To this point, the judge has denied all of his petitions.

Tomorrow the court will announce the ruling on the petition regarding
the challenge petition.

The store manager says Judge Karakhanyan is subjective toward the
challenge petition. According to Ghukasyan, the same judge convened
a session in his absence years ago and deprived him of property in
15 minutes.

Let us remind that the store territory had been recognized as a sale
zone and was obtained by Avo F. M. H. LTD the owner of which is a
Diaspora Armenian by the name of Avetis Karagulyan.

La Coalition Souhaite Ecraser L’Opposition Au Parlement

LA COALITION SOUHAITE ECRASER L’OPPOSITION AU PARLEMENT

armenews.com
vendredi 2 septembre 2011

a RFE/RL.

Education: Armenian President Calls On Pupils To Disburden Jauntines

ARMENIAN PRESIDENT CALLS ON PUPILS TO DISBURDEN JAUNTINESS OF SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Panorama, Armenia
Sept 1 2011

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan delivered a congratulatory message
on the Day of Education. The message particularly reads:

“Dear pupils, teachers and parents, Dear students and professors, I
congratulate you on the Day of Knowledge. Knowledge is a century old
proficiency that our people and the humanity must pass to the future
generations. It must be passed completely, enriched. People keep their
national identity due to natural and spiritual knowledge. It is the
guarantee of our future and power, since knowledge is really powerful.

Both, teaching and studying are tough processes. Nobody in the world
has ever recorded anything easily. I call you on to disburden the
jauntiness of summer holidays and to get ready to work hard.

On September 1 the doors of our education institutes are widely open.”
