Armen Gevorgyan – RA vice prime minister, territorial administration
minister – today partook in the opening of the 10th Armenian General
Union of Body Culture (Homenetmen) representatives’ general meeting
in Tsakhkadzor.
An official from the PR department of the RA Territorial Administration
Ministry reported Armenpress that over 110 representatives from
Homenetmen’s 100 branches in 20 countries partook in the meeting.

Calculation and conclusion of transactions of non-cash gold is
implemented taking into account gold weight only of probe 999. Clients
having NMA accounts can sell non-material gold to the bank any time
according to the given exchange rate or transfer to the accounts of
non-material gold of other banks.

ARMENIA PRESENTS TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS ON CONSTRUCTION OF NORTH-SOUTH TRANSPORT CORRIDOR TO INVESTORS

YEREVAN, September 5. /ARKA/. Armenian Transport Ministry has presented
technical solutions on construction of the North-South transport
corridor to investors, the ministry~Rs press office reported on Monday.
In the past weekend, a conference focused on the construction was held
in Armenia. The conference came ahead of the tender for construction
of the first three sections of the transport corridor.
Representatives of concerned companies visited the sections subject
to reconstruction under this program.
On January 14, 2010, the Armenian government approved the investment
program on construction of the North-South transport corridor as well
as $500-million loan agreement between Armenia and Asian Development
Bank.
The first tranche, $70 million, is planned to be spent for
reconstruction of Yerevan-Ararat and Yerevan Ashtarak sections.
The second, $210-million tranche, will be targeted for rehabilitation
of Ashtarak-Talin section.

The breadth of responsibility for the death of 18-year-old conscript
Aghasi Abrahamyan rests with Armenian defense minister Seyran Ohanyan
(pictured), said former deputy national security minister and current
Armenian National Congress representative Gurgen Yeghiazaryan,
speaking to reporters in Yerevan today.
Recall, Abrahamyan was serving in an army unit near Nagorno-Karabakh
when he was hospitalized with serious injuries on Aug. 26 and died
soon after. Relatives say the young man was beaten to death. Later,
a defense ministry spokesperson stated that two men – one, a senior
officer; the other, a soldier – were arrested in connection with this
case, but provided no other details. A doctor was reportedly arrested
for stating the cause of death incorrectly.
“We can’t have such an army in our region. Those murderers have to
stand before the court. Even if there are no means; those mans have
to be procured so that the issue of our children’s lives is taken
seriously. This mother who loses a son under peaceful conditions…
this is in no way justified. When a son dies on the battlefield,
glory to that mother. And the first and last [person] accountable for
all this is the minister, who was unable to bring our army to order,”
said Yeghiazaryan.
GROUP DEMANDING CATHOLICOS’ RESIGNATION POINT TO ABANDONED CHURCH USED FOR SEXUAL ESCAPADES

Due to the Armenian Apostolic Church’s inaction, the once “Armenian
sanctuary” that is St. Mary Church in Yerevan’s Kanaker-Zeytun
district, one of several preserved medieval churches in the Armenian
capital and located not too far from Khachatur Abovyan House-Museum,
has become a gathering place for sexual escapades and fights among
youth, according to the civil initiative group “We demand the
Catholicos’ resignation.”
Members of the group note that residents of the area surrounding
the church have repeatedly appealed to different state agencies,
drawing attention to the church’s abandoned state and the “incredible
consequences” of this state.
“In addition, the surroundings of the abandoned… church, according
to residents, has become a place for lovers’ meetings and activities,
as well as a place for local youth to fight. The area of medieval
gravestones surrounding the church has become a garbage dump. Thanks
to one local resident, the church has a door (though unartistic)
and a lock. And inside the abandoned church, locals have brought from
their homes icons; by the way, Russian icons comprise a large part.
“Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and the Ararat Diocese of
the Armenian Apostolic Church are responsible for this situation.
This is simply one of hundreds of cases and we believe that we
cannot show more expressive reasons for demanding the Catholicos’
resignation,” reads the statement disseminated by the group.

On Sunday, after noon, the investigative service of the Ministry
of Defense informed that the only officer detained for the death
of Aghasi Abrahamyan was remanded in custody. He was charged under
Article 375 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. Although the military
prosecutor vows immediate revelation, the minister of defense pledges
punishment for those guilty, and the deputy minister Vova Gasparyan
announces that the crime is revealed, 8 days past the case, it is not
known who killed, injured or tortured the serviceman. There is only
someone anonymous who abused his official authority, and anonymity
is for the sake of his security.
In the meantime, the command should know better what happened in
reality. Especially that nothing can be hidden in the military unit
of Yeghnikner. The civilian population of the neighboring Tonashen
village is 7-8 households, and the officers often have to live in
the barracks, side by side with soldiers, or in the building which
is next door, they call it the White House.
And if the commanders don’t know what happens in front of their eyes,
in the evening of August 26, they definitely were involved in the
torturing of the soldier.
After Aghasi Abrahamyan’s death, the military unit of Yeghnikner
(Deer) has almost been in a state of emergency. Movement through
Tonashen is highly limited. Nobody has had leave since August 26.
“The guys can’t even telephone their parents. They’re in quarantine,”
says a young man who completed service a few months ago and has
friends there.
Such security measures are determined by the visits of high-ranking
officials. The military prosecutor, Gagik Kostanyan, says intensive and
large-scale investigative action is underway. Although the officials
speak on this topic every day, more pledges come than information,
which is scarce and controversial.
On August 30, the military prosecutor’s office informed that one
officer had been arrested. On the same day, the spokesman for the
Ministry of Defense announced that one officer and one soldier had
been arrested. Nver Mirzabekyan, Suren Tadevosyan, Arsen Afyan are
mentioned. About 6 or 7 names are mentioned who were arrested and
suspected, among them the godson of the president of Armenia.
Proceedings were filed upon charges for grave bodily injuries caused
intentionally, rather than murder, as the society expected, while
the military prosecutor advises not to focus on the article. In the
meantime, the difference between the articles is immense and essential
for this guilty. Causing death negligently is liable to five years’
imprisonment, whereas the punishment envisaged for murder with
particular cruelty is life sentence.
“What negligence? My son was killed cruelly. His head was broken,
the doctor saw a 7cm crack in the scull,” Aghasi Abrahamyan’s
father, Gegham Abrahamyan says. When the chief forensic doctor,
Shota Vardanyan, touched his waist near the kidneys, his back was
sunken. In dissection he found that the kidneys were burst.
There were long traces of blood on his bottom. “I think he was dragged
along the ground, but the head was terrible, it was swollen to a
terrible size,” his father cannot forget the sight of his son’s body.
Gegham says Aghasi was popular at the military unit. Meanwhile,
he learns from the press that his son was beaten to death by his
fellow servicemen.
Rumors came that Aghasi was pissing at a tree while a soldier asked him
to stop and he shook his finger at him. “Before the army, Aghasi lived
in Rostov and did kickboxing. He was short but strong. And he played
football for 7-8 years.” He says he was strong to defend himself and he
therefore believes that his son was cruelly beaten to death by a group.

The Armenian National Congress (ANC) will focus its struggle on the
forces that have “brought the country to ruin,” Gurgen Yeghiazaryan,
former vice-chief of Armenia’s National Security Service, told a
press conference held jointly with Lernik Aleksanyan, a MP of the
Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
According to him, “if painters are not brought to elections, our
proxies are not kidnapped from polling stations, 20-year old girls are
not beaten, people are not intimidated, and 56,000 dead souls do not
‘come’ to voting, and people vote in snap elections, the ANC will
get eighty to ninety seats in Parliament.”
In response, Lernik Aleksanyan said that, in this case, the people
“at the bottom of the Armenian National Congress will come to power
and finish what they failed to in 1990s.”

La FRA Dachnaktsoutioun a decide de soutenir Francois Hollande dans
la perspective de l’election presidentielle de 2012.
Cette decision resulte d’une reflexion mûrement accomplie. Notre
adhesion aux valeurs de progrès, de liberte individuelle, de justice
sociale ainsi que notre participation a l’Internationale Socialiste,
nous conduisent tout naturellement a soutenir un candidat socialiste.
Et pour la première fois, nous avons la possibilite de participer au
choix du prochain candidat socialiste a l’election presidentielle.
Parmi les candidats declares, Francois Hollande a montre une constance
remarquable dans la defense de la cause armenienne depuis 14 ans.
Un engagement sans precedent en faveur de la cause armenienne
En tant que premier secretaire du Parti socialiste, Francois Hollande
a personnellement influe, en tant que Premier secretaire du PS pour
que les positions de son Parti et celles de la FRA Dachnaktsoutioun
soient harmonisees.
C’est ainsi qu’en 2004, le PS et la FRA Dachnaktsoutioun ont signe
une declaration commune fondamentale. Dès 1998, sous un gouvernement
socialiste, Francois Hollande, alors Premier secretaire du PS, a rendu
possible la reconnaissance du genocide armenien par la France. Il a
porte la penalisation du negationnisme en faisant inscrire et voter
le texte a l’Assemblee nationale le 12 octobre 2006. Il a egalement
oeuvre pour que son parti intègre parmi les critères d’adhesion de la
Turquie a l’Union Europeenne, la reconnaissance du genocide armenien.
Il a envoye un courrier officiel au President de la Republique turque,
lui demandant de reconnaître le genocide armenien. Sa sensibilite
a la Cause armenienne s’est egalement traduite par un voyage en
Armenie en septembre 2007, qui fait de lui, le seul candidat a
l’election presidentielle de 2012 a s’etre recueilli au Memorial
du Dzidzernagapert.
Après son retrait de la direction du Parti socialiste, Francois
Hollande a entrepris sa preparation a l’election presidentielle.
Il s’est dote d’une stature d’homme d’Etat et a noue un lien intense
avec les Francais.
Il est le candidat le mieux place pour succeder a Nicolas Sarkozy.
Qu’il s’agisse du Meeting contre les protocoles du 15 novembre
2009, d’un deplacement a Bourg-lès-Valence le 2 juin 2011 ou de sa
participation le 1er juin a l’emission de la chaine Youtube Elections
2012, Francois Hollande a rappele un a un ses engagements en faveur
de la cause armenienne.
Pour qu’un ami de la cause armenienne devienne President de la
Republique
La FRA Dachnaktsoutioun constate, avec satisfaction, que les fidèles
allies de la cause armenienne soutiennent, pour la plupart, Francois
Hollande : Rene Rouquet, deputemaire d’Alfortville, Serge Lagauche,
President du groupe socialiste au Senat, Bernard Piras, Senateur-Maire
de Bourg-lès-Valence, Didier Guillaume, Senateur-President du Conseil
General de la Drôme, Gerard Collomb, Senateur-Maire de Lyon, Jean-Paul
Bret, Maire de Villeurbanne, Eugène Caselli, President de Marseille
Provence Metropole, Marie-Arlette Carlotti, Conseillère regionale PACA,
Michel Vauzelle, Depute et President de la Region Provence-Alpes-Côte
d’Azur, Bruno le Roux, Depute de Seine Saint Denis, Jean-Yves le
Bouillonnec, Depute-Maire de Cachan, se sont tous officiellement
engages pour Francois Hollande.
Nous avons egalement noue, durant 14 ans, des liens forts avec
Francois Hollande. La FRA Dachnaktsoutioun a toujours ete et est encore
aujourd’hui un partenaire exigeant envers Francois Hollande. Il nous
a toujours demontre sa fidelite aux principes que nous defendons.
Il a toujours respecte les engagements et les promesses qu’il nous
a faites.
Pour que Francois Hollande accède a la Presidence de la Republique en
mai 2012, il faut qu’il soit elu aux primaires. Et nous avons un rôle
a jouer ! Et nous pouvons jouer ce rôle ! Aidons un ami de la cause
armenienne a devenir President de la Republique francaise. Mobilisons
nous nombreux, très nombreux aux Primaires socialistes dès le 9
octobre. Votons et faisons voter Francois Hollande !
La FRA Dachnakstoutioun, appelle l’ensemble de la communaute
armenienne de France a se mobiliser et a s’engager en allant voter
les 9 et 16 octobre aux primaires en faveur de Francois Hollande,
pour qu’un candidat fidèle a nos valeurs et a nos combats puissent
d’abord remporter les primaires socialistes avant de conquerir la
Presidence de la Republique.
