Prince de Sassoun
Par Alban Guillemois et Yvon Bertorello.
12 Bis, 15 ,

PARADE MADE BAKU REALIZE MILITARY SOLUTION TO KARABAKH ISSUE IMPOSSIBLE -EXPERT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Armenian political analyst links Azerbaijan’s
accusing Russia and OSCE of pro-Armenian position to Yerevan-hosted
military parade on 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.

As Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told a news conference in Yerevan, “the
parade made Baku realize the impossibility of a military solution to
Karabakh conflict.”

“To justify threats of renewed war, Azerbaijan began accusing Armenia
of purchasing bulks of weapons. Should these accusations continue,
Europe may actually believe Armenia is preparing for a war,” the
expert noted.

“The accusations may be Baku’s attempt to make excuses to its own
people for failing to renew a war in Karabakh,” Melik-Shahnazaryan
said.

On September 21, Yerevan hosted a grandiose military parade dedicated
to 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence. SU-25 jet aircrafts,
leaving coloured streaks in the sky as they flew by, as well as Mi-24,
Mi-2 helicopter gunships were welcomed with special enthusiasm. Those
gathered were impressed by defence weaponry demonstrated: 9ë72 Elbrus
vehicle complex, 9K79-1 Tochka-U tactical missile system, S-125
Pechora, K11 Krug and Osa surface-to-air missile systems, GAZ-2975
Tigr high-mobility military vehicles, T-72 tanks, heavy artillery,
self-propelled howitzers, anti-tank missiles; Krunk Armenian-made
international standard missile drones were demonstrated.

PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA: AGRICULTURE PROBLEMS STILL REMAIN IN THE CENTER OF MY ATTENTION

“The agriculture problems still remain in the center of my personal
attention as well as of the government of the country”, – President
of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said in the message to the participants
in the first world conference of farmers “Armagroforum” launched in
Yerevan today within the frames of the events dedicated to the 20th
anniversary of Armenia’s independence.

“Taking into account the role of the agrarian sector in the structure
of Armenia’s economy, this sphere will be also one of the priority
ones for us over the next years”, – he said.

The president also added that the conference is a good opportunity
to discuss not only the tasks and challenges of the agriculture of
Armenia, but also of the region and the world, as experts from abroad
and international organizations are also taking part in the conference.

“We may be proud of our achievement in the sphere of agriculture. We
not only restore the work of the earlier functioning processing
companies, but have also created several new companies for the last
years”, – the president said and added that serious pre-conditions
for development of village and agriculture have been already created
thanks to the reforms in the agrarian sector of the country.

Armenian Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan said in his speech
that despite all the pre-conditions for development of agriculture,
we still have problems in this sphere which may be resolved in case
of effective using of the potential.

“The improvement of the business-climate in the country has created
favorable conditions in the economy of the country, which will give an
opportunity to our compatriots living in different countries of the
world to promote fulfillment of various programmes in the agrarian
sphere. This will result in the mutually beneficial cooperation
which is in line with modern criteria of the world business”, –
the minister said.

He also added that 1000 farmers from Armenia and the NKR, including
40 Armenian farmers from Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Lebanon, Iran,
Poland, Latvia, the USA and France are taking part in the conference
which will last till 16 October.

For three years the Armenian branch of the International Police
Association (IPA) has been doing preparatory work to become a full
member of the Association.

So far our country has been participating in the Association’s summits
as an observer. The issue of Armenia’s membership was discussed
during the Association’s summit at the end of September, and the
discussions were rather hot, Chairman of the Armenian branch of the
International Police Association, Police Colonel Grisha Sargsyan told
reporters today.

According to him, the issue of Armenia’s full membership irritated
the Turkish delegates. Instead, heads of association of a number of
influential countries spoke positively about Armenia.

“Head of the Israeli branch of the International Police Association
considers Armenia may join the IPA as a full member during the next
summit of the Association scheduled for September 2-9 in Israel. This
is something many countries do not manage to reach for many years,”
Grisha Sargsyan said.

ARMENIA TO IMPLEMENT SEVERAL MAJOR AGRICULTURAL PROJECTS IN 2012: PRIME MINISTER

ARKA
oct 14, 2011

YEREVAN, October 14. / ARKA /. Armenia emphasizes the importance
of cooperation with international organizations in the field of
agriculture and plans to implement next year a number of large
projects, prime minister Tigran Sarkisian said at the opening of the
first world Armenian agricultural forum.

He highlighted an array of projects implemented with the support of
the U.S.-government’s Millennium Challenges Corporation worth a total
of $177 million, resulting in new and upgraded irrigation systems
and infrastructure.

He said World Bank has funded a set of other programs aimed at rural
development and increase of opportunities for farmers.

“The importance of these programs lies in the fact that thanks to the
support of experts, farmers were given new knowledge, technology and
machinery”, Sarkisian said.

He said the government will utilize a World Bank loan to create
cooperatives that will allow to increase the productivity by 30%. The
prime minister said the national agricultural sector has challenges and
achievements, and stressed that Armenia was the first of the former
Soviet Union constituent republics to introduce market mechanisms
in agriculture.

The prime minister said Armenia differs from other countries by the
fact that it has 340 thousand farms and only 430,000 hectares of land.

Overall some 1000 people representing the sector are taking part in the
gathering, 700 of them are Armenian farmers and managers of processing
enterprises. Forty people have arrived from Russia, Ukraine, Georgia,
Lebanon, Iran, Poland, Latvia, USA and France.

Nagorno-Karabakh has also sent a delegation.

On 15 October the participants will take part in Harvest Festival in
Ararat and meet with people from local processing enterprises and on
October 16 North Avenue, in downtown Yerevan will host celebration
of the Day of Agricultural Workers.

PARENTS OF DEAD SOLDIERS PROTESTING IN YEREVAN DID NOT YIELD TO PERSUASION

More than a hundred people protested at 1 pm today outside the Armenian
president’s residence in Yerevan. Relatives of soldiers killed in the
army during a time of peace, supporters and human rights activists
demanded an end to impunity in Armenia’s Armed Forces and asked that
the Supreme Commander in Chief, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan
come meet with them.

Also participating in today’s demonstration were Heritage Party MP
Zaruhi Postanjyan, Helsinki Association for Human Rights President
Mikael Danielyan, head of the Vanadzor Office of the Helsinki Citizens’
Assembly Artur Sakunts as well as journalists who hadn’t come to
report on the event, but to participate in it.

Note, the decision to protest outside the president’s residence
was made the day before, after local activists heard of yet another
non-combat death in Armenia’s Armed Forces.

During today’s protest, several dozen police officers tried in vain to
block the gate of the residence. Police were even pushing protestors
and trying to persuade them to “find another place,” but protestors
broke through the cordon of police and approached the gates. About
two dozen activists then sat down on the ground with their back to
the building. Standing behind them was a row of activists holding
posters facing the building. Later, protestors could be heard chanting
“Murderers! Murderers!”

Vardan Ghukasyan, assistant to Deputy Defense Minister Vladimir
Gasparyan, approached the relatives of deceased soldiers and invited
them to take part in a board meeting of the military prosecutor’s
office currently underway, in which investigators responsible for
various cases of soldier deaths were participating. However, the
parents refused the officer, saying “We’ve already gone through all
that,” and continued protesting outside.

Demonstrators were calling for Serzh Sargsyan to come meet with them;
however, since that did not happen, a little over an hour after the
protest began, demonstrators crossed the street, stopping traffic on
Baghramyan Ave. for a few minutes. They then began to disperse, and
organizers announced that the next protest would take place on Oct. 20
at 11 am outside the government building in Republic Square. From
there, the group intends to march to the president’s residence.
