Justification of the Republican Party that 100% proportional electoral
system is impossible in legal point of view, member of ARF fraction
Arstvik Minasyan considers to be nonsense.

`The only restriction is in the Electoral Code, that’s why we suggest
taking that restriction out of the Code and this is the reason we are
planning to hold legislative initiative’, said Minasyan during his
interview with `Yerkir’ daily.

He also believes that not accepting the suggestions that would promote
oligarchy’s ousting from NA, only proves that works and words of the
authorities do not match.

Arthur Abraham wins WBO European super middleweight title

Arthur Abraham wins WBO European super middleweight title

January 15, 2012 – 15:54 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Armenian boxer Arthur Abraham (33-3, 27KOs) stopped
Argentinean Pablo Farias (19-2, 11KOs) in the fifth round to capture
the vacant WBO European super middleweight title.

Abraham started slow but eventually he started to let his hands go and
let the bombs fly in the fifth as he found his range. A combination to
the head and body put Farias down early in the fifth. A moment later a
second knockdown came, and then a barrage of punches put Farias down
for a third and final time as the referee waved it off, Boxing Scene
reported.

Earlier, Abraham promised to make a spectacular comeback night when he
takes on Farias in front of a sell-out crowd at the Baden Arena in
Offenburg, Germany. `I will start the year with a victory and also end
the year with a victory,’ Abraham said. `I am determined to be world
champion again in 2012,’ sports media quoted him as saying.

Sports: Arthur Abraham vs. Pablo Oscar Natalio Farias

Arthur Abraham vs. Pablo Oscar Natalio Farias (20:00 GMT)

Former IBF middleweight champion and Super Six semifinalist Arthur
Abraham hits the comeback trail tonight when he takes on Argentina’s
Pablo Oscar Natalio ‘Pokemon’ Farias at the Baden-Arena in Offenburg,
Germany.

Although the bout is for the lightly regarded WBO European super
middleweight title, Abraham has stated that his intention is to move
back down to the middleweight class and regain a version of the world
title in 2012.

31-year-old Abraham [32-3, 26 KOs] was last seen being handed a boxing
lesson by the eventual Super Six champion Andre Ward at the Home Depot
Center in California last May. The loss cost Abraham a rematch with
Carl Froch and a shot at winning the Super Six title. It also marked
the third time in four bouts that Abraham had been dominated by an
opponent.

The Berlin-based Armenian began Super Six in impressive fashion,
knocking out former middleweight titlist Jermain Taylor in the 12th
round of a fight he had dominated in October 2009. The brave but
outgunned American was behind on all three scorecards and heading
toward defeat when to add insult to injury, he was knocked cold by a
booming straight right to the chin late in the round. Taylor was
forced to spend three nights in a Berlin hospital suffering from
severe concussion and double vision.

It was an ominous start for Abraham, and he was quickly installed as
the bookies favorite to win the Super Six tournament. However, his
limitations at 168 pounds were exposed in his next fight five months
later, when he was handed a boxing lesson by the 6’2” Andre Dirrell,
and suffered his first professional defeat when he was disqualified in
the 11th round for hitting his opponent after he had slipped to the
canvas.

Abraham was still a heavy favorite when he faced Britain’s Carl Froch
in his third Super Six bout in November 2010, but once again he was
outclassed by a much taller and rangier opponent, losing a landslide
decision. Despite back-to-back defeats, the three points he had gained
by knocking out Taylor were still good enough to put him in against
the undefeated American Andre Ward in the Super Six semifinal.

In an attempt to rebuild his shattered confidence prior to the Ward
bout, Abraham took a tuneup fight in Germany in February 2011, but the
contest ended unsatisfactorily when Abraham’s opponent Stjepan Bozic
was forced to withdraw in the second round after damaging his hand.
Three months later, Ward handled Abraham with ease, giving the
Armenian yet another boxing lesson.

Powerfully built at 5’10” tall, and possessing a 72 inch reach,
Abraham has the perfect structure for a middleweight. He won the IBF
version of the title with a fifth round KO of Nigerian Kingsley Ikeke
in 2005, and used his physical prowess allied to a simple ring
strategy to power his way to 10 consecutive title defenses over the
next four years, with impressive victories over the likes of Edison
Miranda [twice], Wayne Elcock and Mahir Oral.

During his reign as champion, the Armenian relentlessly pursued what
would have been a huge fight against American WBC/WBO champ Kelly
Pavlik, and his frustrations at being unable to make the matchup may
have been the catalyst for his move up to 168 pounds.

Abraham loves to rumble forward ‘tank-like’ behind a high guard,
patiently waiting to get into striking distance before unloading his
heavy artillery. It is a simple tactic that worked perfectly up until
his fight with Andre Dirrell. The American was the first man Abraham
had faced that possessed the size and speed to intimidate him, plus
boxing ability far superior to his own.

Likewise, Carl Froch may never make fight fans forget about Sugar Ray
Robinson, but he looked sensational employing the simple tactic of
keeping Abraham at the end of his long jab while scoring with fast
right hands to secure a lopsided victory over his opponent.

While Super Six shattered the Abraham myth forever and exposed the
Armenian’s limitations as a fighter, he could still be a major force
at 160 lbs. Abraham is a genuine knockout puncher at middleweight, has
a great chin and is a marquee name in Germany, topped only by the
Klitschko brothers as a box office attraction. Even the very best in
the 160 pound class – Argentina’s Sergio Martinez – would not relish
going 12 rounds against ”King Arthur”, but would no doubt appreciate
the mega-payday that would be involved.

However, before he can target one of the division’s world champions,
Abraham must first deal with an ambitious, hungry opponent that is
seven years his junior and has lost just once as a professional.

24-year-old Pablo Oscar Natalio Farias [19-1, 11 KOs] turned
professional in Buenos Aires in 2008. Trained by the fellow countrymen
and former WBC cruiserweight champion Marcello Dominguez, the 5’8″
Farias is a game, bull-chested brawler with a busy style reminiscent
to that of that great Argentinian light heavyweight champion of the
1970s – Victor Galindez.

Boxing extensively in his native Argentina, Faria was unbeaten against
decent if unremarkable opposition until his last fight in November,
when he was floored in the first round by veteran Jose Alberto Clavero
before being disqualified in the fifth for hitting his opponent after
the break.

The unmarked baby face of Farias is testament to his ability at
slipping punches, and he hits fairly hard with both the left hook and
a swinging right hand. The Argentinian’s skills are limited, but he is
strong and game, and will definitely be looking to upset the Abraham
applecart on Saturday night.

There is little doubt that Farias has been handpicked by Abraham’s
promoters Sauerland Event and his trainer/manager Ulli Wegner as a
credible opponent that should make him look great and give him a
knockout victory. The Argentinian comes to fight, and loves to brawl –
suicidal tactics against a bomb thrower of the caliber of Abraham. If
King Arthur has been putting in the work he claims he has over the
festive season, he should make short work of Farias, but if he is
already looking ahead to bigger fights, he may have to work a little
harder, and could even be taken the distance.

I believe that Abraham lost to Dirrell, Froch and Ward because they
were the best three fighters he has ever faced. In the case of Dirrell
and Froch, their physical advantages were overwhelming. Against Ward,
he simply faced a supreme stylist at the peak of his game.

Abraham will still have way too much for most fighters in the
middleweight division, and I look for him to score an impressive KO
over a game but outgunned Farias in four rounds.

According to the operative data of the NKR Defense Army, the
opponent’s frontline subdivisions were especially active along the
line of contact of the Karabakhi-Azerbaijani forces during the first
days of the year.

On the night of December 31 and on January 1, the Azerbaijani forces
violated the ceasefire regime nearly 90 times and shot more than 1,200
times toward the Defense Army’s frontline with arms of varying
diameters.

The opponent has actively violated the ceasefire regime in the past
couple of weeks as well by firing at the Armenian positions stationed
in the southeast, central and northeast with canons and sniper’s guns.

The frontline subdivisions of the Defense Army, “not paying heed to
such attacks of the Azerbaijani army, continued to stay true to
maintenance of the ceasefire regime and defended the combat positions
along the frontline with confidence”, reports the Defense Army’s News
and Propaganda Department.

Armenia does not request special security conditions for Eurovision in Baku

13 January 2012, 16:01 (GMT+04:00) Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 13 / Trend /

Armenian Public Television did not request special security conditions
from the European Broadcasting Union for its participation in the
Eurovision Song Contest in Baku this year, Eurovision official Sietse
Bakker told the Mediamax agency.

The 57th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Azerbaijan this
year. The semi-finals will be held in Baku on May 22-24 and the finals
on May 26.

Earlier this week, Armenian Public Television official Gohar Gasparyan
said Yerevan has not made a final decision on its participation in the
Eurovision song contest in Baku.

She said that the Armenian Public Television appealed to the European
Broadcasting Union for guarantees of the Armenian delegation’s
security and waits for its response.

“The European Broadcasting Union does not give guarantees of security,
as it is beyond the scope of our activities,” Bakker said. “However,
we ask for guarantees and security services from a local broadcaster
and the relevant authorities and/or partners. As of this year, we
received security guarantees for all delegations from the Azerbaijani
PM.”

Moreover, the issue of Armenia’s possible participation was discussed
with the Baku authorities in August last year to confirm that the
security guarantees will be extended to the Armenian delegation. All
potential participants, including the Armenian Public Television, were
informed of the guarantees given by Azerbaijani Prime Minister.”

AGBU Sofia Holds Series of Events “For You, Armenia” to Mark 20th
Anniversary

Sofia’s cultural calendar was full this past fall with a series of
events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia,
organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia, AGBU Sofia and
Anima Art Gallery.

It began with a photo exhibit during the month of September by Bulgarian
artist-photographer Bedros Azinyan, entitled “Crossroads,” at the Anima
Art Gallery of the Sofia Hilton Hotel. The opening was conducted by the
owner of the gallery, Anna Panayotova, together with the photographer
and AGBU Sofia Chapter Chair Sonia Avakian-Bedrossian.

There is hardly anything more natural than to be facing different roads.
To see opportunities and make choices, to seek new solutions or new
beginnings. In his exhibition “Crossroads,” Azinyan hints at such
alternatives through his photography. Renowned not just in Bulgaria, he
has won many prestigious awards and has published his photographs in
hundreds of publications.

The series continued with a concert of AGBU Sofia Chamber Orchestra with
the AGBU Sofia Nur Dance Ensemble at the Pancho Vladigerov Concert Hall
on September 18, 2011. The impressive program, conducted by Maestro
Bedros Papazian, was comprised of works by Bulgarian and Armenian
composers amidst a backdrop of photos of Armenia. Armenia’s Minister of
Culture Hasmik Poghosyan was present among audience members and awarded
the famous artist Onnik Karanfilyan with a special award certificate and
Maestro Papazian with a gold medal for their creative achievements
following the program.

A second month-long exhibit of architecture and painting by
designer-architect Agop Karakashyan followed at the Union of Architects
in Bulgaria from September 19 to October 23, 2011. The exhibition was
opened by the Chairman of the Union of Architects in Bulgaria, Georgi
Bakalov, who congratulated Karakashyan for the rich creativity of
designs and pictures shown in the exhibition, which consisted of 28
panels featuring a selection of his paintings and projects.

On October 8, 2011, a charity ball took place at Hotel Sheraton, with
the assistance of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church in Sofia. On
this occasion, funds were raised to support the completion of the Holy
Virgin Mary Cathedral in Sofia.

An art exhibit by Zara Manucharyan, entitled “Armenian Shapes,” was held
at the Anima Art Gallery from October 3-23, 2011. The following thoughts
of the artist express the basis of her work: “‘Armenian Shapes’ is the
movement of my spirit beyond time and space, an esoteric movement
inspired by Narekatsi’s holy texts and by the mysterious shapes of old,
abandoned temples. These symbols and psalms deliver encoded messages,
which give off curative and positive energy.”

A second concert to mark the 20th anniversary of Armenian independence –
the second of the autumn season — took place on November 20, 2011. It
featured soloists Anahid Agopyan (piano), Nina Kouyoumdjyan (violin),
Kalina Hristova (violin), Rositsa Boyadzieva (flute) and Nikolai
Temeznikov (tuba) performing the works of Handel-Aslamazian, Joseph
Haydn, Artin Poturlyan, J. Rossini, Masne, Nestiko, and Henry King.

A third and final concert in celebration of Armenia’s independence took
place on December 11. The AGBU Sofia Chamber Orchestra presented
“Christmas Jazz” with soloists Militsa Gladnishka (vocal), Mihail
Yosifov (trumpet), Vasil Spasov (piano) amd Boris Taslev (contrabass).

Established in 1906, AGBU () is the world’s largest
non-profit Armenian organization. Headquartered in New York City, AGBU
preserves and promotes the Armenian identity and heritage through
educational, cultural and humanitarian programs, annually touching the
lives of some 400,000 Armenians around the world.

One of the three popular Armenian-Middle Eastern grocery stores on
Mount Auburn Street in Watertown.

Arax is located in the middle of the three ethnic grocers on Mount
Auburn Street in Watertown, between Sevan Bakery and Massis. It has
the best produce section, as well as the most extensive selection
of bulk grains, honeys and teas. Otherwise, it’s more a matter of
personal preference or taste, since all three stores carry a good
variety of prepared Middle Eastern foods, cheeses, olives, flat breads,
and juice drinks.

What to eat: Like all three Middle Eastern grocers in this two-block
stretch of Mount Auburn Street, Arax has an extensive olive bar and
a well-stocked cheese deli with several kinds of feta and other soft
cheeses. Its coolers are filled with yogurts and prepared Middle
Eastern foods, such as humus, baba ganoush and other cold dishes,
which can make a satisfying lunch with fresh pita or sesame ring
bread. For dessert, there are more than a dozen kinds of Armenian
pastries and fresh fruit.

The vibe: Friendly and cosy, with local Armenians, Italians and others
shopping every day.

Cool factor no. 1: You can drop in to pick up some bread, olives and
cheese — or spend time just browsing among the many kinds of honey,
oils, teas spices and bulk foods.

Cool factor no. 2: It’s fine to ask for a sample of a cheese or to
taste an olive or two.
