YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian addressed the Armenian people on September 27 on the occasion of the aggression launched by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, noting that consolidation is the unconditional guarantee of the victories of the Armenian people.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the press service of the Office of the President, Sarkissian said, ‘’Dear compatriots in Armenia, Artsakh and Diaspora,

This is another military aggression by Azerbaijan, which is a war against the entire Armenian people. This war is directed against the right of the people of Artsakh to living freely, against having a dignified, peaceful life and future.

I feel deep sorrow for the victims of the large-scale military aggression by Azerbaijan, including a child and a woman’, Armen Sarkissian said, emphasizing that the Defense Army of Artsakh again proved that it’s ready to swiftly reacting to any military operation.

President Sarkissian said that they are expecting adequate reaction from the international community, particularly the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chair countries, international organizations and individuals.

‘’By these steps Azerbaijan overtly shows to the international mediators and international community that it does not wish to settle Artsakh issue through negotiations and foster regional peace and stability, it continues to violate universal values, targets civilians, hospitals and communications.

We hope that the international community will initiate urgent measures to stop the war unleashed by Azerbaijan’’, the President said.

‘’Dear compatriots,

The victory achieved in the Artsakh war (1994 – edit.) is a result of our unity and consolidation, today the preservation of that victory is the sacramental duty of each of us.

The fate of our Motherland depends on us, our unity, solidarity and discipline.

We need to unite.

Consolidation is the unconditional guarantee of our victories. At this moment we have to put aside all the political disagreements and personal confrontations and become a strong back for our Armed Forces.

We have to act together, even if we have different thinking, worldview and ideas.

The capacities and potential of each of us in Armenia, Artsakh and Diaspora should be used for the sake of the Motherland.

God bless our army.

God bless us all. ”

Politician: Armenia needs professionals of the future, not from the past

Arminfo, Armenia
Sept 24 2020

ArmInfo. There are no reforms in Armenia today with the course of which I would be satisfied. A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by the leader of the  “Enlightened Armenia” party Edmon Marukyan.

“For example, behind the reforms in the justice sector,  unfortunately, the return of torture to penitentiary institutions is  already evident. This was not observed for a long time, however,  today the torture of people in our penitentiary institutions is again  becoming a reality. Any reform has its own period. And, in my  opinion, the period for transitional justice is over. All this had to  be done immediately after the revolution, “he said.

Judicial and legal reform, according to Marukyan, has totally failed.  And Prime Minister Pashinyan initially accepted and supported the  idea of vetting proposed by Enlightened Armenia, but then, for some  reason, refused it. Moreover, judges due to whose fault Armenia pays  compensation according to the decisions of the ECHR today become  members of the Constitutional Court and candidates for presidency of  the Constitutional Court, and do not resign, as the prime minister  demanded.

Based on this state of affairs, the politician characterizes the  authorities as unprincipled and inconsistent in the implementation of  their own plans and decisions. Power is quite consistently destroying  all the hopes of society connected with itself. And according to  Marukyan’s estimates, one should not expect from the authorities of  such content, such quality and such a level of professionalism the  resurrection of the judicial and legal reform.

At the same time, according to the politician’s assessments, there is  certainly a professional staff in Armenia, and not only in the  judicial and legal, but also in other, very different spheres.  However, their involvement in work for the benefit of a common cause  is hindered by the separation of “blacks” and “whites” proclaimed by  the authorities. Which is quite consistent with her policy of  separation. Meanwhile, the limited resources of Armenia simply  dictate the need for the opposite process – the process of  consolidation.

At the same time, Marukyan in no way considers Robert Kocharian or  Serzh Sargsyan as such professionals, who have already managed to  demonstrate their own abilities in the last two decades.  According  to him, these are people from the past, meanwhile, today Armenia  needs people of the future.  This is what today’s reality demands.

“I mean a lot of professionals who have never held government  positions and posts in Armenia. These are people from the private  sector, public organizations, the media sphere, the academic sphere.  These are the people who need to be involved in governing the  country. Meanwhile, Nikol Pashinyan’s power continues the work of his  predecessors. What Kocharyan and Sargsyan did not manage to finish.  To make sure that I am right, just look at the Republicans in the “My  Step” bloc or at the notorious cadres of Serzh Sargsyan in the  Pashinyan government, “concluded Marukyan.

‘No Russian Arms Shipment Transferred to Armenia via Iran’

Iran Front Page
Sept 8 2020

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Embassy in the Republic of Azerbaijan has dismissed media reports about the transfer of Russian weapons to Armenia through an Iranian border crossing.

In a statement released on Monday, the Iranian Embassy in Baku slammed as “baseless and false” the media reports claiming that Iran has allowed for the shipment of Russian military equipment to Armenia through Norduz border crossing situated northwest of the country.

Denouncing such false news as acts of sabotage by the hostile forces and those opposed to close relations between Iran and Azerbaijan, the embassy said such measures are aimed at harming the growing cooperation and friendly relations between Tehran and Baku.

Baku had earlier voiced concern about reports of large arms shipments from Russia to Armenia during and after the fighting.

Last month, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev complained to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin about Moscow’s arms sales to Armenia amid the outbreak of fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS. Speaking at the 2020 Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS), Armenian President Armen Sarkissian reminded the participants about the Azerbaijani military attack on Armenia at times when both countries – and the entire world – were struggling to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sarkissian delivered the remarks during the Restoring Prosperity in a Post-Pandemic World online discussion on September 5.

The Armenian President spoke about the COVID-19 pandemic and his concerns at this phase when the world is undergoing changes. He noted that the concentration of people in big cities creates conditions for the rapid spread of the virus. He emphasized that the coronavirus is a consequence and not the reason of the changes happening around the world.

“At times of uncertainties, if you lose your common sense for your human dignity or your humanity its very easy for you to become xenophobic, it’s very easy to blame others for your failures and I see now in this world problems that are occurring because we are in transition,” he said.

“Just recently while Armenia was fighting coronavirus and our neighbor Azerbaijan was fighting coronavirus, Azerbaijan started on the border with Armenia a military activity, and where is our common sense?” Sarkissian also spoke about Turkey’s destructive rhetoric during those days.

“That concerns me as an Armenian, as a President because it takes me back 105 years ago when the Armenian Genocide happened in the Ottoman Empire. And it gives me more concern because some Azeri officials were speaking about bombing the Armenian nuclear power plant, which is unheard of, because at the end of the day when you bomb a nuclear power plant it will hurt not only Armenia but it will hurt everybody, every neighbor we have around,” he said.

“My hope is that during this transition, we don’t lose our common sense,” the Armenian President added, stressing that the world needs to value what it had created before, and focus on the future.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has taken to Facebook to thank Arsenal and club’s former manager Arsene Wenger after the Armenian international signed a permanent deal with Roma as he terminated his contract with Arsenal by mutual consent.

“I love the city of Roma, I love this club and I count the fans in my heart. I will give all of my effort in helping us achieve our goals!”

Armenia strongly condemns the degrading treatment of the officer Gurgen Alaverdyan in Azerbaijan

Panorama, Armenia
Aug 28 2020

Armenia condemn the degrading treatment of the officer Gurgen Alaverdyan, who appeared under the Azerbaijani jurisdiction on August 22. This is a flagrant and gross violation of the international humanitarian law, the Foreign Ministry of Armenia reported in a released statement.

According to it, by publicly violating the dignity of Gurgen Alaverdyan, Azerbaijan denies the right of the prisoners of war to be “entitled in all circumstances to respect for their persons and their honour” which is asserted by civilized humanity and enshrined in the Third Geneva Convention.

“Such practice represents a distinctive method of notorious terrorist organizations and, as we can observe, of Azerbaijan as well.

The dictatorial regime of Azerbaijan, while feeding its people with disgraceful propaganda and Armenophobia, covers up the serious setbacks of its armed forces in the July battles by coercing the prisoner of war to read out its sham narratives.

The fact that Azerbaijan is one of the few countries to have refused to ratify all the Additional Protocols to the Geneva Conventions also demonstrates their disregard of the international humanitarian law,” the statement added.

According to it, the continuous violations of international humanitarian law by Azerbaijan seriously undermine the establishment of an environment conducive to peace.
