Il caso-Armenia nelle scuole di Pordenone

Il Friuli, Italia
11 aprile 2019

Armenia wants to move to five-year gas price agreement with Gazprom

YEREVAN April 4
Armenian Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources considers it expedient to switch to a five-year agreement on the price of gas with Gazprom instead of the practice of setting the price of gas annually, said the head of the ministry’s foreign relations department Tigran Melkonyan at a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between the Russian Federation and Armenia on Wednesday.

YEREVAN, April 4. / TASS /.

“It is extremely important to work on agreeing and signing an agreement on the pricing procedure for supplying natural gas to Armenia for at least five years, which will make it possible to have certainty in the tariff policy when setting gas prices,” Melkonyan said.

Gazprom is the only supplier of gas to Armenian consumers. On January 1, 2019, the price of Russian gas for Armenia increased from $ 150 to $ 165 per thousand cubic meters. Then, the Armenian authorities have repeatedly said earlier that they were negotiating a gas price reduction with the Russian side. In 2018, Armenia received gas on the border with Russia at the price of $150 per 1,000 cubic meters, which had been lowered to that level from $165 per 1,000 in 2016. Meanwhile, the fuel price for consumers was $290.

Russian gas deliveries to the country stood at 1.87 billion cubic meters in 2016 and at 2 billion cubic meters in 2017.

Gazprom Armenia, a subsidiary of the Russian holding. The contract for supply of up to 2.5 bln cubic meters of natural gas is effective until the end of 2019.

USC Institute of Armenian Studies Announces Chitjian Researcher Archivist

Los Angeles, Calif. –The USC Institute of Armenian Studies has named Gegham
Mughnetsyan as the Institute’s Chitjian Researcher Archivist. The naming is in
honor of long-time Institute donor, philanthropist and distinguished community
member Sara Chitjian.
She was one of the Institute’s first donors and supporters. Miss Chitjian
believes in the value of education and scholarship to achieve fairness and
justice. She taught that as a teacher, she supports that as a philanthropist.
Sara Chitjian was born in Mexico City in the family of Ovsanna and Hampartzoum
Chitjians who were survivors of the genocide. The family relocated to East Los
Angeles in 1935. Miss Chitjian graduated from UCLA in 1956 and began a teaching
career at the Los Angeles Unified School District which lasted for 34 years.

In retirement Miss Chitjian has dedicated her time to the archiving of the
Armenian Genocide, specifically through the documentation of a rich and complex
family history. Her father Hampartzoum was a great storyteller and one of those
who told his family story countless times to various scholars, journalists,
photographers and filmmakers. He was also a regular in Miss Chitjian’s
elementary school classes where he helped children from a variety of
backgrounds begin to understand genocide. It helped that Mr. Chitjian was a
child survivor and his memories were those of a child, making his stories very
relatable to children and young people.

Gegham Mughnetsyan, Institute research associate since 2016, received his
undergraduate degree from University of California, Berkeley in Peace and
Conflict studies where his focus was on US foreign policy toward Nagorno
Karabakh. Mr. Mughnetsyan went on to complete his graduate degree at the
American University, in Washington DC, where he studied International Affairs.

At USC, Mr. Mughnetsyan works with post-genocide diasporan archival materials.
The work entails documentation, translation and collection building.

Since February of 2018, Mr. Mughnetsyan has been leading an oral history
initiative tasked with recording, translating, transcribing the stories, and
digitizing archival documents about the community of Armenian displaced persons
who, in the course of World War II, were uprooted from their homes in the
Nazi-occupied regions of the Soviet Union, ended up in a refugee camp in
Germany and, after the war, found refuge in the United States.

These are just two of the more-than-dozen programs at the USC Institute of
Armenian Studies.

“The current work of the researcher archivist at the Institute reflects the
spirit of Sara Chitjian’s life-long dedication to Armenian archives –
especially as they relate to genocide and the post-genocide period -- and the
naming of the position is a fitting tribute to her legacy,” said Institute
Director Salpi Ghazarian whose relationship with Miss Chitjian goes back
decades. “Miss Chitjian was my 6th grade math teacher; her father was one of
the first to tell his life story first to J. Michael Hagopian, then to me as a
student in Professor Richard Hovannisian’s UCLA class, later again to our team
at the Zoryan Institute. Each of these interviews was more extensive than the
last. Miss Chitjian’s mother’s journey, too, is invaluable.  Recognizing the
importance of remembering that generation and their stories, Miss Chitjian has
dedicated her life to helping others remember. We are indebted to her.”

About the Institute

Established in 2005, the USC Institute of Armenian Studies supports
multidisciplinary scholarship to re-define, explore and study the complex
issues that make up the contemporary Armenian experience—from post-genocide to
the developing Republic of Armenia to the evolving diaspora. The institute
encourages research, publications and public service, and promotes links among
the global academic and Armenian communities.

Sports: The clubs of Armenian Basketball League A: Artik

The clubs of Armenian Basketball League A: Artik

The first finalist of the Armenian Basketball League A has emerged: Aragats beat Artik in the semi-finals.

For this edition of our column on the league, we talked with Artik BC President Levon Vahradyan and head coach Ogi Moljevic about the season and the prospects of the club.

Shaping a professional squad

We formed a team quite spontaneously last season, started playing in League A, and we won games. After that we decided to bring in foreign players, and then we became champions of Armenia.

This year we laid a very professional foundation for our work. We have Armenian players, foreign players, and players from EAEU member states. We have shaped a capable squad, which is why we have reached the semi-finals this year.

The growth of League A

Photo: Mediamax

This season the league has advanced. All clubs came in stronger, all clubs are growing progressively more professional.

I think next year there will be more clubs in League A and the tournament will be better organized. The stronger the teams become, the more entertaining competition we get.

The Serbian coach and the basketball town

This season our Serbian coach Ogi Moljevic became the head coach of the club. He is a man with top professional and personal qualities. Ogi works well with the team and consults our experts from Artik too, and they progress in their work.

Artik has always been a basketball town. Now that we have a professional club, the public interest towards the sport has grown. Children come to watch the training sessions, and although they just want to pass the ball to the players, they are also growing fond of basketball. They want to try it and be successful too.

Devoted fans

Everyone in Artik knows the boys. When one of our foreign players went to a grocery shop for the first time, the seller gave him warm bread and didn’t charge, because they recognized him. He returned to the hotel and soon went out again, and when the staff asked where he was going, he said: “For a chat with good people.”

The new court

We didn’t have home games last year, because we didn’t have appropriate conditions and the boys trained in a different court. Thanks to donors, we replaced the old floor in our court, and the new one is of top quality. The renovation will kick off when the weather gets warmer. We want to build stands too.

On performance this season

We have to classify the performances this season “before the New Year” and “after the New Year”. We were going strong and played well before the New Year, but afterwards we slipped. Still, we kept fighting and reached semi-finals.

In general, League A was more entertaining before the New Year. In January, Aragats brought in many new players, so did Urartu, and it made them much stronger. Those clubs spent more than we did.

The lack of local players

League A needs local players. Armenia has to develop basketball with local players, which requires a development program at youth level. I worked in Serbia and six other countries and they were all investing in infrastructure, youth teams, new programs and exchange of experience with other countries. Armenia has to do that too to actually develop basketball here.

The future

I can’t give a definite answer now. My position at Artik depends on the board and the funds.

Previously, Mediamax Sport reported about Urartu, Artsakh and FIMA.

PM claims multi-million dollar smear campaign is underway against government, but domestic political situation is stable as never before

13:50,

YEREVAN, MARCH 19, ARMENPRESS. The domestic political situation in Armenia has never been as stable as today, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a news conference today, noting that this stability isn’t a repressive one, but a democratic stability. He said that the government’s report on its action plan’s performance gives an in-depth description on the changes that took place in this period.

“I don’t think I have to speak much about these changes, but I would like to say one thing. There’s talk about polls, there was this same talk in the summer, autumn of 2018, before and after elections. This isn’t the case when the prime minister isn’t in control of the situation, I am very often in direct contact with people. They write as if the country is in a period of instability, that once again the cycle will begin, a heated spring, a heated summer, look what’s gonna happen. Nothing is going to happen. People must understand their [ship has sailed] long ago, they wouldn’t catch up with it even on a Ferrari if they wanted to, their chapter is closed. They have one way, stand before the people, repent and ask for forgiveness. But let me say, we will guarantee all their desires on being engaged in public and political activities,” Pashinyan said. He expressed certainty that if today elections were to be held, his My Step Alliance would once again win, this time even bigger. In the December 2018 election, My Step won a landslide victory with over 70%.

He claimed that millions of dollars are being spent on a smear campaign against his government, but the government is not taking any actions against this. Pashinyan did not specify who the propagandists are.

The PM stressed that the freedom of speech is an absolute value for the incumbent government.

“These circles must understand they cannot have this kind of business in Armenia, they cannot garner support among the Armenian people,” he said.
