Will the lord of underground be released in two days?

January 28 2015

The Ministry of Justice is investigating the substantiations of the
court decision issued by the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron
and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts about dismissal of the
petition to extend the custody for two more months for Andranik
Soghoyan, a lord of underground by the name Zap, identified on 28
October 2014, in Yerevan. The Ministry spokesperson Tsovinar
Khachatryan told to Aravot.am that after studying the reasons for
rejection, the possibilities for the appeal would become clear. Note
that news.am reported that on January 24, the Court of General
Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts
dismissed the petition of the Ministry of Justice to extend the
custody of A. Soghoyan for two months. And if the Ministry of Justice
does not appeal the verdict within 5 days, Soghoyan will be released
on January 29. An international manhunt was announced for A. Soghoyan.
Charges were brought against his by the Municipal Court in Prague in
compliance with the Criminal Code of the Czech Republic, Article 219
(1) and (2), and Article 235 (1) and was sentenced to 22 years in
prison. But so far, there is no verdict that is effective against
Andranik Soghoyan in the Czech Republic.

Armenio.

Armenian FM Hopes for Fruitful Talks between Iran, Powers

TEHRAN (FNA)- Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian underlined
his country’s support for the nuclear talks between Tehran and the
world powers, and expressed the hope that the negotiations would yield
results.

Nalbandian made the remarks in a joint press conference with his
Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Yerevan on Monday.

The 10th round of negotiations between Iran and the six world powers
was held in Vienna from November 18 to 24, where the seven nations
decided to extend the talks until July after they failed to strike an
agreement.

The latest round of the nuclear talks between the two sides was held
at the level of deputy foreign ministers in Geneva, Switzerland, on
January 18. The two sides decided to continue their talk early in
February. Both Iran and the powers negotiators have underlined that
cutting a final deal before the July 10 deadline is possible.

Zarif arrived in Yerevan on Monday to confer on the latest
developments in the region and explore new ways for the promotion of
bilateral relations.

Zarif’s two-day visit to the country is taking place at the formal
invitation of his Armenian counterpart.

The Iranian top diplomat and his accompanying delegation, are
scheduled to hold separate meetings with Armenian President Serzh
Sargsyan, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan and Parliament Speaker
Galust Sahakyan.

Iran and Armenia have taken major strides towards widening and
deepening of their relations in recent years, particularly in the
economic sector.

In October, Abrahamyan, heading a high-ranking delegation, visited
Iran to confer with senior officials of the country on ways to develop
all-out ties.

Abrahamyan held meetings with a number of high-ranking Iranian
officials, including Zarif, during which they exchanged views on the
growing trend of the development of bilateral relations in all areas,
specially in economic, trade, infrastructures and tourism fields, and
underscored the necessity for removing the existing obstacles.

They also called for continued reciprocal visits by Iranian and
Armenian officials to consult and exchange views on the bilateral
relations and other issues of mutual interest.

Pipe Dreams Why Public Subsidies for Lukoil in Azerbaijan Will Not R

Pipe Dreams Why Public Subsidies for Lukoil in Azerbaijan Will Not
Reduce EU Dependency on Russia

14:22 January 28, 2015

After years of discussions about diversifying Europe’s gas supply to
reduce dependence on Russian imports, during the last year the EU has
prioritised the Southern Gas Corridor or Euro-Caspian Mega Pipeline,
as it has been dubbed by civil society groups. Estimated at USD 45
billion, this chain of projects would bring gas to Europe from the
Shah Deniz offshore gas field in Azerbaijan, owned by BP, Russia’s
Lukoil, and Azerbaijan’s SOCAR, among others.

The corridor would pass through Georgia, Turkey, Greece, Albania and
Italy to other EU markets, and consist of the South Caucasus Pipeline
extension (SCPx), Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP), Trans-Adriatic
Pipeline (TAP) and other branch lines. Later it may also include the
Trans-Caspian Pipeline (TCP), which would enable the export of Turkmen
gas to the EU.The preference for the Southern Gas Corridor has been
given additional bearing by the conflict between Ukraine and Russia,
and although the projects are mostly carried out by private sector
companies (except SOCAR which is owned by the state of Azerbaijan),
the EU looks set to take on many of the risks: the Southern Gas
Corridor will be backed with public money via the connecting Europe
Facility, potentially the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the
Project Bonds Initiative, and indirectly via a loan by the European
Bank for Reconstruction and development to Lukoil for the second phase
of developments at Shah Deniz, a loan set to be approved in early
2015. Export credit agencies from EU countries may also back the
Corridor.

This brings financial risks for the EU and its Member States, which
could end up costing taxpayers, gas consumers, and the people in
exporting and transit countries. If new gas import infrastructure is
the wrong answer, it is partly because the wrong questions are being
asked. someone who asks “How much energy can we save? How do we do it?
What does it cost? Down to what level can we reduce our energy
demand?” and works to achieve these goals will end up saving energy.
Someone who asks “From which country can we get gas that isn’t
Russia?” will end up dancing with repressive regimes of all shades
like those in Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan, and looking around
for money to pay for expensive pipeline projects. That the EU has not
prioritised energy savings sufficiently is epitomised by the recent
disappointing, non-finding energy efficiency target of 27 percent by
2030. But even if this target is accepted as sufficient, the EU has
not sufficiently analysed how much gas is really needed in a
decarbonised EU. It has prioritised a whole series of huge gas import
projects in its list of Projects of Common Interest (PCIs), of which
the Southern Gas Corridor is the largest, but its own Energy Roadmap
2050 shows that we simply do not need so much gas during the coming
decades if the EU is to

reduce its use of fossil fuels. The impact assessment for the adoption
of energy efficiency targets for 2030 show the same thing.

The little wager that led to a big law career

USC alum aces a law school test and ends up managing a practice in
which he fights for the underdog

by Susan Bell

ovanes Margarian ’02 never intended to become an attorney.

After graduating in just three years from the USC Dornsife College of
Letters, Arts and Science with a bachelor’s degree in biological
sciences, Margarian had applied to medical school and was on track to
achieving his longtime dream of becoming a pediatric cardiothoracic
surgeon.

“I did research in gene therapy and rotations with the surgery
residents at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles while I was an undergrad
at USC,” he said. “I also had my research results published in the
Journal of Molecular Therapy, and I was the top student in the biology
department for two consecutive years.”

Margarian had already applied to medical schools when he decided to
use his fourth-year scholarship funds to take an extension class in
business law.

“The instructor was an attorney, we got talking and it sparked a
little interest in law and law school,” he said. A few weeks later,
Margarian’s future took a 180-degree turn.

A friend, also premed, dared me — in fact, bet me — that I could take
the LSAT without studying. I said, ‘OK, I’ll take the bet for fun,
even if I score low.’

Hovanes Margarian

“A friend, also premed, dared me — in fact, bet me — that I could take
the LSAT without studying. I said, ‘OK, I’ll take the bet for fun,
even if I score low.’ So I took the LSAT and got a score of 164 out of
180, which is good enough to be accepted to a Tier One law school,”
Margarian said. “I think I scored so high because I wasn’t stressed
about the exam.”

Margarian’s friends were so impressed, they introduced him to
attorneys who were USC alumni. The realization that it would take only
three years to finish law school and become an attorney, compared to
14 years to become a surgeon, was the clincher for Margarian.

“I realized I loved the medical profession, but not the lifestyle that
came with it,” he said. “I decided to go to law school so I could
start supporting my parents sooner. Within two months, I changed
everything I had been planning on for the previous 10 years of my
life.”

He believes in USC

The former premed student said he applied to three law schools and
turned down an offer of full tuition at another school to attend USC.

“I believe in USC because of what it had done for me during my
undergraduate studies,” he said. “I knew coming out of law school, I
would be a better contender in the legal profession if I had a double
degree from USC.”

While attending the USC Gould School of Law, Margarian and his
brother, Armen, then a student at the USC Marshall School of Business,
started and managed an online automobile brokering business. After
earning their degrees, the brothers teamed up once again to start the
Law Offices of Hovanes Margarian.

Margarian managed the legal aspects of the practice while his brother
managed the business logistics.

Since then, the law office has evolved into a full service midsize law
firm with several associate attorneys. Margarian takes pride in
defending the interests of the ordinary man against powerful corporate
giants.

My clients are mostly financially challenged immigrants with poor
English skills, who get taken for a ride by unscrupulous dealerships.

Hovanes Margarian

“I handle many civil litigation matters and the automobile fraud cases
that are close to my heart because that is where I started my legal
career,” he said. “My clients are mostly financially challenged
immigrants with poor English skills, who get taken for a ride by
unscrupulous dealerships. These clients save up a couple of thousand
dollars to buy a car so they can go to work and take their kids to
school. A couple of months later, their car breaks down and the
dealership tells them it’s not their problem anymore.”

Margarian’s research often shows the car sold had been in a crash and
was not safe due to major safety and mechanical problems.

“The cars are often purchased at auctions for a fraction of their
selling price. Being financially challenged, these clients can barely
make the payments,” he said. “Then the car breaks down and the clients
have no recourse. It’s very gratifying when we can litigate these
cases and get these people’s money back to them.

“Often you are literally putting their lives back together by handling
their case because if they can’t drive their car, they can’t go to
work and take their kids to school. So a family’s life is on hold
because an unscrupulous dealership decides to make a $10,000 profit by
selling a bad car.”

Margarian also helped to bring a successful class action case against
the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power for waste collection
overcharges in which residents had been overcharged by about $6
million over several years, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

‘The best thing that happened to me’

Armenian-born Margarian thanks USC Dornsife for much of this success.
He came to the United States with his family when he was 13.

unscrupulous auto dealerships. (Photo/courtesy of Hovanes Margarian)

“Going to USC was the best thing that happened to me after I arrived
in the States,” Margarian said. “As a teenager I didn’t feel I fitted
in anywhere. USC was the first place I felt I belonged. Whatever was
necessary for my evolution as a student was there. USC has top-notch
professors, all the equipment and the funding one could need —
basically there are no limits to your capacity to learn at USC. Plus,
USC gave me the confidence to open my own business and start my own
practice straight after law school.

“In retrospect, I think I’m very lucky that I made that bet with my
friend because this career is a perfect fit for my personality,”
Margarian said. “I love to engage in a good fight but to do so
rationally and for the right reasons. Litigating cases on behalf of
consumers gives me that opportunity and privilege.”

The law practice Margarian opened with his brother eight years ago has
gone from strength to strength. The brothers now handle 11 areas of
law and recently relocated their office to Glendale, holding a grand
opening in July 2014 with a reception for 200 guests, including the
mayor of Glendale.

“My objective is to grow the practice into a full-service firm with 20
to 30 attorneys,” Margarian said.

All things Trojan

The former elected president of the Downtown Alumni Club of USC,
Margarian also co-founded the USC Armenian Alumni Association with his
brother. On March 25, the association will honor Steve Sarkisian, the
first Armenian coach of USC football.

Margarian, whose office sports a large photo of Tommy Trojan, admits
that his enthusiasm for all things Trojan means no one has any doubt
which university he attended.

“If we had gone to a different school,” he said, “and had not seen the
power and value of using the Trojan Family network to help the causes
we believe in, we would not have the lifestyle or business success we
do now.”

Amal Clooney Represents Armenia in Genocide Trial, Deserves All The
Lifetime Achievement Awards

Arielle Dachille

Welp, this is pretty much the most impressive thing ever. Because she
is an unstoppable machine of human rights justice, Amal Clooney is
representing Armenia in a trial related to the country’s genocide. You
can stop talking about her white gloves from the Golden Globes,
already.

As People reports, Clooney will serve as legal counsel for Armenia on
a trial before the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) concerning
the nearly century-old event. To this day, Turkey reportedly claims
that only 600,000 Armenians were killed in the event that lasted from
1915-1923, rather than the estimated 1.5 million. According to The
Telegraph, Clooney will argue on behalf of Armenia that the court’s
decision to pardon DoÄ?u Perinçek was an affront to the rights of the
Armenians. Perinçek is the chairman of the Turkish Worker’s Party who
was found guilty of denying the Armenian Genocide in 2007, but the
decision was overturned because the ECHR ruled that the decision
violated his rights of free speech.

Clooney will reportedly try to prove that this ruling puts the entire
existence of the Armenian Genocide into question. Furthermore, she
will supposedly maintain that the ruling was hypocritical due to the
past violations of freedom of expressions committed by the Turkish
government. I’m no lawyer, but it sounds like this may very well be a
landmark trial with the power to set an influential precedent in this
particular court. Can we just give her all of the lifetime achievement
awards??

But even when she is literally changing the course of history, people
are still gonna talk about her outfits. According to E! News, a
Telegraph reporter jokingly asked who she was wearing as she walked
into trial on Wednesday morning. She reportedly laughed and pointed to
her barrister’s robes and replied `Ede & Ravenscroft’ ‘ the brand of
her uniform. That’s what they call an Amal burn, suckazzzz!!
